Room was serviceable for a beach side resort. It’s was very quiet, ac worked great, bed was comfortable, and there was ample hot water with great pressure. Staff seemed to be indifferent towards guests. Hotel seemed to cater to workers families and cruise ship reservations more than actual guests. Beach chairs would be taken by workers families and also saved for cruise ship reservations while hotel guests would go without a chair or umbrella. Bar staff would also ignore people trying to get drinks even if you were seated at the bar. It seemed a bit odd almost as if it were intentional.

Our cabana did not have an ocean or beach view. We booked on a bit of a late plan for a vacation. The room unfortunately did not have much in the way of clothes storage. Pretty well lived out of our suitcases on the floor. Could have used a light source in the coffee, fridge, water cooler area. Staff and food and close location to beach and restaurants almost made up for accommodation lackings . Again must express helpfulness and service of resort staff, from room staff, to restaurant staff and beach chair/umbrella staff. Would stay here again, only in one of the other, larger rooms.

Avoid room 17. There is a pump right outside the bedroom wall that is annoying. The food in the restaurant is great and if you have a different room , it's a good place. But
good luck on getting a lounge chair in the shade. We clued in by the end of our stay that you need to tip the night guard to put your towels out early to get the best lounge chairs. Location is great - right in the middle of West Bay

The bathroom was leaking water, towels had hairs on them when we first arrived, the water from the water dispenser was coming out with dirt (I guess the water dispenser is quite dirty), little water came out of the shower and without pressure.
I'm giving 3 stars for the price we payed. If not, it would be 2 stars

I thought it had a pool, but it didn’t and on the pictures online It looks like it has a pool. That was a big thing as we were expecting one…The AC in the living room was not working, but they were really quick and fixed it right away. They had a fire show that day in the afternoon but nobody had announced it and we left to do something else and we came back it was over. We missed the whole thing. if we would’ve known, we probably stayed! Lack of communication to customers. I did love the happy hour hour! Overall, location was great. I would stay there again although I wish they had a pool so that’s gonna make me think twice.

This is wonderful for what it is, a rustic beach stay.

Pros:
The location is amazing.
The staff were amazing!
Loved to secluded feel and enjoyed the hammocks and watching the humming birds.
Walk to everything in just a few minutes.

What it is not:
This is not a resort with luxury linens and a polished feel. Think of your great uncles old and comfy summer cabin, the sink maybe chipped, there’s no tvs and it’s just basic accommodations.

With all that we loved it! My teen boys said they would stay there over a posh resort any day and I agree.

Great no frills, comfy, safe and lively hotel!

This was my first trip to Roatan and I was on a budget. I did a lengthy research on different hotel booking sites and Bananarama consistently had good reviews. I was not looking for a luxury hotel, just a place that was clean, safe, with good service and right in-front of the beach. Bananarama Resort definitely delivered. I loved the no-frills, relaxed environment and vibe. My room (#7) had two beds in two separate areas giving it a mini apt feel, it was clean, comfy and AC worked perfectly (also a ceiling fan in each room). Bathroom was a decent size, with hot water. There was a sewer kind of smell at times and I solved it by covering the sink and shower holes with towels, also kept the toilet seat down. Not the best issue for a hotel to have, I know, but I think it’s across the area because I went to the fanciest hotel in West Bay (Kimpton) a few times to enjoy some guest passes and their bathrooms had the same sewer smell.
Best part of Bananarama is their staff: receptionist, waiters, bartenders, etc. They are so warm, welcoming and helpful. Bartender Jose prepped killer piña coladas for me every single day, and my son loved the pancakes, burgers and pizza (so good). They prep traditional Honduran food too and it was delicious. The beach is right at the front and it was just gorgeous! If you’re looking for a relaxed, chill resort but safe for you and your family, stay at Bananarama!

This was our first time to Roatan and after reading tons reviews we settled on Banarama. We were so happy we did we loved everything! We barely wore shoes of any kind all week we were so close to the beach it was amazing. The breakfast was super great, the bar was fun, pizza was incredible and everything we ate from the cook was delicious and perfect. I would describe it as “lodgey”. The room was

Awesome. Walking distance to several little stores and coffee shops and tons on restaurants up and down the beach. The water was crystal clear and we saw tons of starfish in the water right out front of the resort. We will definitely be back!

Cons- Room very dated, mattress lumpy. Old septic system so no toilet paper. Very weak water pressure in shower.

Overall for the price i would stay somewhere else.

We had a few things wrong with our room at check in. They also asked for $16 more for a fee they said Expedia didn't pay. Our coffee pot was broken. Our safe was broken. The whole room needs some TLC. Over all our stay was very nice. They could use a place to sit in all the rooms . Ours had no chairs. We had to drag the rocking chairs in every night to sit on other than the bed. They did a fantastic job of cleaning and food was delicious. They did bring me another coffee pot and had to give us a key to the safe to use it. So I would go back , but chose a different room. One with table and chairs

The people were wonderful. I was a bit concerned about safety before going given the travel warnings, but i never felt even a little unsafe. Dive shop folks were great also, laid back diving. Restaurant was friendly, food was good, though selection was a bit limited. Overall I had a very nice stay.

We came here for the diving and left with a love for west bay. The property is casual and clean with beach access and a great restaurant. Easy access to water taxi for a 5 dollar ride to west end. No TV in the room, but thats OK for us as we spent time outside enjoying the sunsets. We will be back

The staff was friendly and they allowed us check in early. Not worth the savings due the terrible smell of the water, we had to use their provided drinkable water to brush our teeth, the water out the sink smelled terrible but apparently its an issue in the island. It appears Infinity Bay is the only one that uses filtration system for their guests. Room #17 is way too outdated and shower floor start sinking, probably rotten wood under. My wife was understanding that I was trying to save money but I regret putting her through substandard accommodations over the small price difference. We will try Paradise Beach or Infinity bay next time their price is not too off from Bananarama. Unless you are a backpacker with needs of connecting more with rough third world experiences I highly suggest you stay out of here.

'Rama Review

The resort was a nice place to stay at, it has gotten smaller since I was last there. Apparently, part of the property was sold off. The staff was friendly and accommodating. However, the Bar Staff was a bit disappointing, to say the least and I was extremely surprised. I am a Black Honduran who was raised in the States. The Bar staff, who were also Black Hondurans, seem to be very attentive to the white patrons and constantly overlooked me, even when sitting in front of them. I brought this to the attention of the Manager and to my surprise, he said that it wasn't the 1st time he's heard that. I asked him to address it with his staff and he told me that he would.

Loved our stay at the Bananarama. Staff were very friendly. The attached restaurant, The Thirsty Turtle, had some of the best service we received in Roatan, and they have daily food and drink specials.

Our room was about a 30-second walk to the beach. Banarama has an area reserved with lounge chairs solely for hotel guests, and they enforce it. The hotel is practially at the center of West Bay Beach also, making it a perfect spot. The rooms could use a little TLC, but that's so insignificant that it wouldn't stop me from staying there again.

We had wanted a place to stay that was a little rustic to match the Island vibe, however the Bananrama lacked basic comforts. The view from unit 21 was beautiful and the room cute and quaint.
Unfortunately, the toilet would not flush at night and frequently reguritate sewer fumes. The air conditioner had no temperature adjustment to keep the room a plesant temperature. We would wale up several times a night becausewe were too cold or too hot. The safe in the room wasnt working amd the staff had no idea how to fix it. The housekeeper didnt bring us fresh cups/mugs everyday but rather did a poor job of rinsing them out. Some days our coffee cupa were turned over and presented as clean when in fact is was obvious they weren't even rinsed. Yuck!

We live the people (visitors) that stay at Bananarama and all the staff are so nice and friendly. Some of the rooms could use a little cosmetic work but we are rarely in our room. Food at the Thirsty Turtle is good and the daily specials are great. The location is right in the middle of West Bay Beach- walkable in both directions. Everything you need is close by.

In the description it says modest, so don't expect typical resort/hotel fanciness. We stayed in location #20 for reference.
3/4 size refrigerator, which was very helpful for plenty of leftovers and water. Microwave and plates that were handy. Didn't want to use the forks because they didn't look too clean or cleansble, but that was OK we didn't really need them. The room stayed nice and cold, which was refreshing when we came out of the warm/humid outside. The shower was interesting because in order to get it to warm/hot, you have to turn it to the middle point on the right side, not all the way to the \"hot\" setting like we assumed. Not bad, but took us a neighbor to figure that one out.

Staying on the second floor have is our own balcony with some chairs and a hammock, which was nice in the mornings. It's close to the bar/restauarant area, so if you're trying to go to sleep early, probably have some earplugs or something, not an issue for us, we just ended up going to sleep late anyways.

Very friendly security staff. Actually encountered a situation with a rude visitor passing through, calling the security guard some names and he handled himself well without retorting back. Joell was our driver from the airport and he was friendly and a great driver.

The included breakfast was great every morning and so were the servers. Had a jenga table and connect 4 games next to the tankless which kept the kids busy while we were waiting for the food.

The Expedia photographs gave the impression the property is in great shape. It is not. The rooms (I experienced 3 rooms total as I was moved around) were run down. Friends of mine referred to them as “rustic.” My first room had no functioning lights, other than the bathroom lights, so navigating in the dark was problematic. That room was also closest to the bar area, which played loud music all day. My second room was nicer, but still very old, with plastic tarps on the roof to prevent leaks. My third room had a bathroom that was just gross, and I really didn’t want to touch anything. My visit felt more like a camping trip with a roof, rather than a stay at a hotel. Staff was very pleasant. The beach was nice, but this hotel sells lawn chairs to cruise boat visitors, so from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. the beach area was extraordinarily crowded. Beach vendors constantly bugged me to buy bracelets, food items, massages, hair braiding, etc., which was annoying, and in spite of the security guards on the property. Bar food was good. This was the noisiest hotel on the beach, without a doubt, and I think it tries to cater to the party crowd. If peace and quiet are more your speed, then definitely stay elsewhere. One guy I talked with off sight mentioned my hotel had great drink deals and is a great place to “get ‘f-ed’ up.” The dive shop was the best I’ve ever used, so that was a huge plus. I would book dives with them again, but stay elsewhere. Hotel is cheap for a reason.

Our room was fine but definitely needs updating. The water from the bath tap was absoultely terrrible; it really smelled - like sulphur. I don't know if this was just our room but it was really bad. Yes we did have bottled water but we had to shower in this awful water. I think it should be looked into. Otherwise everyone at the resort is so nice and helpful. And the resorts location is fabulous!!

Bananarama has our heart! What a beautiful spot and right in the middle of everything. The bed was super comfy and endless hot water for our showers. We loved that you could change your beach towels as often as you like. The best part of the dinning was the Pizza!! So good! We also loved the cinnamon buns for the little cafe and of course the chia latte! Next time we go back we will definitely get #5 cabin ( cabana). That way we won’t have any noisy neighbours upstairs.

Convenience is the best quality of this resort. Right in front of a wonderful beach, dive shop attached with friendly and accommodative staff, restaurant and bar steps from your room. Service at the bar/restaurant is slow, but hey you are on vacation. The shrimp tacos and pizza were pretty good. This area does die down around 830 so if you are looking for night life, it won’t be in west bay. Overall this place was clean, well taken care of, and safe. In fact I accidentally left my purse at the outside restaurant twice overnight, nothing taken. And it safely returns to me the next day.

this hotel exceeded expectations. Yes it is rustic without being updated, but the price reflects that. What it is is clean, on the beach, centrally located, with a great little bar/restaurant. I kept reading how they were hot water issues but did not notice that. Plenty is hot water for showers. No TV, but good WiFi for Netflix on the tablet. Water taxi is right out front. Great beach with plenty of beach chairs. Convenience stores are close by for snacks and alcohol for the room. The property grounds are kept spotless. We stayed here for a week and loved it.

We loved loved loved the Bananarama. It looked exactly like the photos online. It's location is right in the middle of West Bay Beach. You can walk either direction the entire length of the beach. The staff is the best. Eddie, one of the bartenders greeted us each night with a smile. The rest of the staff is awesome also. Price of the food and drink at the pizza place and Turtle were the best along the beach. If you are looking for a top notch fancy place this is not the place for you . That's the only reason I did 4 stars because it is an older place, very basic, but we felt like we were really living a beach life there and that was exactly what we wanted. It was so nice to walk a few steps for breakfast which is included. The cleaned everyday. Also water taxis are right at our beach. No compamints at all!!

I love that the beach was in my backyard. I didn't like the water from the kitchen, bathroom and shower it had such a bad smell. Once we told the office they came to replace the filters but it only helped a little. Besides that, I'll definitely stay there again.

Great dive operation. The equipment worked perfectly I dive nitrox and it was available and handled perfectly. The staff is awesome friendly and knowledgeable. They took care of everything all I had to do was dive. This was my 8th trip to Roatan and the 4th time I have dove with Bananarama. We will go back. The room was fine everything worked. Food is very good. Pizza is excellent. The surrounding area has lots of food and drink options.

This hotel is nothing to what you se on website, in the website looks colorful , nice , etc. Is all round down, not well kept, mosquitoes get inside the room, really old towels , no tv . They should advertise this hotel for people who go snorkeling maybe or backpackers, that don’t care for any confort maybe, some do probably, but definitely not for families or two women alone, restaurant people not the most friendly or bartender, they make us feel out of place, I pay for 3 nights and stay only one, the noise of the trees and wind and mosquitoes make it impossible to sleep plus didn’t feel safe I think we were the only ones there after a family left that day. I have to get another hotel , and nobody reimburse for my other two nights. So I don’t recommend this hotel the way is advertised. Location is the only thing they have good.

Outlet in bathroon dead, Took minimum of 4 minutes for \"hot\" water to reach room, maybe 100F. Fumigated property for bugs at 1030 PM with no notice. Generally took 45 min to get lunch or dinner out of kitchen, regardless of the amount of people. Road into property had no drainage and in terrible condition. Took 3 days for someone to figure out how to reset the safe code. Back charged the fee they paid to Expedia for the booking. Garbage on the beach every morning from the non-guests they allowed to use their site. Gotta say, not the fault of the staff. Just above some of the hostels on the island.

Needs constant maintenance due to sea air
Access to resort is challenging due to major potholes in the solitary access road and they were overflowing with water
Office staff was pleasant
Other staff members were choosy as to whom they were courteous to

You can’t beat the location, the beach is just amazing, the area is awesome and close to good restaurants….

The negatives, breakfast is too limited and the staff at the restaurant is not good, specially a super rude bartender

I would def come back, just not eat at the restaurant

Property is just as advertised. I was traveling alone to scuba dive. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very good. Dive operation was outstanding. I will definitely return on my next trip to Roatan.

Bartender horrible

The overall service was good, except for the guys at the Bar. Barman super rude and servers horrible! I had to stand up and ask for the menu several times, talk to the bartender which gave me a horrible treat pizza was burnt twice and flavor disgusting. At one moment I decided to get water from my room and the same rude bartender asked me to pay like if I was going to run away. Next time he should ask if I needed something else.

My family and I stayed at Bananarama 12 years ago and it was just as wonderful the second time! Laid back atmosphere, friendly staff, great food and drinks (here's looking at you Derry and Ryan) and the best dive shop ever. Thank you Zoe, Ben and Jordan for taking such good care of us on our dives! We loved every minute of our stay at Bananarama :)
