Nuestra estancia fue muy buena, solo el transporte del aeropuerto no fue el planeado, el hotel aunque cuenta con transporte no va por los pasajeros si no te comunicas 72 horas antes de la llegada para que ellos se programen, en su defecto ellos te envían un transporte privado pero tú lo tienes que pagar.
Al llegar al hotel tuvimos algunas dificultades con el desayuno que aparentemente según la agencia que contratamos no lo habíamos incluido. La persona que nos recibió se llama Alonso Olivares, nos hizo las acomodaciones necesarias y nos instaló y durante nuestra estancia siempre estuvo al pendiente que estuviéramos bien y disfrutáramos del viaje. También Tania nos ayudó para que nos dieran un descuento en el desayuno y pues eso tomamos. No quisimos seguir teniendo más problemas porque no fue lo que planeamos, mejor decidimos gozar nuestra estancia en San José Costa Rica y disfrutar de sus alrededores.
Asegúrense de verificar y confirmar directamente con el hotel antes de llegar para evitar contratiempos.

It’s a dated hotel in need of an update. My room was right out of the 80’s and while it was high end dark wood and marble just know. The inclusive breakfast was great but the restaurant at dinner was not. Pretty grounds and pool area

Nice pool with poolside restaurant and bar. Beautiful setting.

My wife and I stayed on both the front end and back end of our trip to Costa Rica.

My spouse and I enjoyed our stay very much. Barcelo is an oasis in the city.
They have friendly staff, a great property with a big pool and beautiful grounds and plenty of restaurant options. The Japanese restaurant was surprisingly very good. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet. We also enjoyed the “premium lounge” that was included for a few $ more.

Breakfast was good with mix of local and international foods. We were on the 6th (premier) floor, so had access to the lounge. That was a great bonus, woth wines, beer, and a selection of food available all day as needed. Great hotel at a good price.

The bathtub in the bathroom suite had a leak. After taking a shower the bathroom floor ended with water (lots of it). I complained to the front desk but the solution was towels. That was not acceptable at all.

My husband and I are in our late 60s and have traveled all over the world. This hotel was one of the most exceptional we’ve ever been in. The facility was absolutely stunning and immaculate. Staff were incredible and really work to make your accommodations as wonderful as could be. I would highly recommend to anyone to stay at the Barcelo in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Staff were outstanding. I rolled my ankle during my stay; the night manager helped me out with some supplies from the first aid kit and the following morning the concierge phoned the hospital pharmacy in order to get an ankle brace and tensor bandage delivered to the hotel. Now that is great service!

The property is a bit dated, however it can add to its charm. There is room for improvement and efficiencies.

The pool is amazing and the grill restaurant by the pool has very good food…. However this restaurant is run very poorly. Almost terribly. There is no consistency with the service. A normal tourist would think serving food and drinks would be available, but it is not… but maybe depending on the day??? Yeah, you never know.

The pool bar and grill could be making a lot more money for the hotel, just HIRE (and train) some staff. The current staff doesn’t seem to have a grasp on customer service. Many times I sat waiting for service and I’m talking 30 minutes of WAITING. One day I waited 1 hour for food. 1 hour! I timed it because of the long waits prior…. And I was tipping the staff hoping it would help, but it didn’t.

I witnessed my food waiting to be brought to me, sit on the warming area for 15 minutes while one girl just sat and stared at the cash register, the bar manager chat with people and the waitress occupied herself doing meaningless tasks…. All while my food sat. I almost when up and got it myself! Terrible!

I saw people bring in their own beer and pizza to the pool. Which tells you the hotel is not operating properly. The pool grill needs to be trained…. Hello hotel manager???

The breakfast was decent, same for the night time meals which were included in my package. However the dispenser for the night beverage is broke and only trickles out beverages….

Barceló was a very accommodating hotel. The food was amazing, the Premium Level suite, and separate lounge was also a great addition to the reservation. The breakfast was very good and the food in general was tasty. This hotel is not walkable to anything so you will need uber or a rental. I believe the front desk and bell courier staff were very helpful. The hotel receives three stars due to the outdated rooms, uncleared pool area, jacuzzi being in the gym, and the cooks not being able to cook a simple hamburger with nothing on it. They wasted more food preparing it incorrectly than simply delivering a hamburger with nothing on it. This hotel also seems to be for the older crowd; so also keep that in mind when booking.

Hotel Barcelo was a great stay. My wife and I have stayed there a few times over the years. The location is good if you want to stay close to the San Jose but not in it. The cleanliness is very good and the service is great. As far as price goes, it’s inexpensive. We highly recommend this hotel.

The restaurants were not very good however- The sushi restaurant served cold rice on the sushi and did not look very appealing. The burger option at the restaurant was very sad and didnt taste very good- the meat was not great quality. However the surrounding restaurants in the area are pretty good if you go out and travel. However, i will be back in the hotel.

The reason I give 4 star is because the food weren’t properly labeled in English &there are a lot to English guess who stayed there, as to say if it was pork or ham or whatever I am allergic to those food I took pasta & it had pork salami & had to send it back now I am dealing with an allergy on my face & body . Worst experience I've had through Expedia. Even though I sent numerous emails, Barcelo did not respond to providing free collective transport and could not be reached by phone there. The staff, although courteous, were not very English language oriented. Hotel foods were less than desirable. Hot water was less than lukewarm. The pool was not very attractive the first couple days.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this hotel and honestly sad that I was only staying one night! Considering the price I paid for a night at this hotel, I was not expecting anything special. The staff were super friendly and helpful, the room was clean and the bed was so comfortable, the hotel property was beautiful with a gorgeous garden to walk through and a resort quality pool. I was very pleased with both the dinner and breakfast buffets and had a great time listening to a live DJ at the hotel bar in the evening! If I am ever back in San Jose, I will most definitely stay here again!

I had to wait in line 15 minutes at front desk to check into my room. My room was not ready when I checked in at 1:40pm on 1/3. I was told I had to wait an hour, and then come back. An hour later, I had to wait in line at the front desk another 10 minutes. I ultimately got into my room after 3pm.
