I came in late and left early so i did not enjoy the pool ,but it looked great. Only a small area for sun tanning, if thats your thing. The area has limited parking, so you may have to walk farther during busier times. The path to the rooms is bumpy but not a problem. The rooms are dim lighted and wish i had a brighter light for some things. I would stay here again, as a bonus the offered a nice light breakfast to start the day, that hit the spot.

We recently stayed here and were very pleased with how clean our room was. The staff was truly friendly and accommodating, which made our stay very enjoyable. When I unfortunately caught a cold toward the end of our trip, the staff was kind enough to provide hot tea, which was much appreciated.
However, there were a couple of areas for improvement. While we enjoyed the overall friendly atmosphere, I really wished our room had a mini-fridge to keep drinks cold and store snacks. The walkway to the room was difficult to navigate with luggage. Additionally, we booked a room with a pool, but we couldn't use it because it had a significant amount of debris and bugs. We ended up using the larger main pool instead.
Despite these issues, the great service from the staff made our stay a pleasant one.

Room was clean and staff was amazing at daily cleaning. Loved the courtyard area. What would really improve the rating would be a mini fridge in the room. All the staff were great people and friendly.

Pool area needs updated, comfortable furniture. It's a small pool but very nice on a hot day.

Breakfast is great if you're only staying a couple days but after that we went elsewhere for breakfast. A couple different options would be great. (i.e. if you're having a 2 egg scramble or omelet why do you need to pay extra for 2 eggs fried and a piece of toast)?

From the time we got there to the time we left, we were very pleased with the Hotel Unknown.
The reception we received was very nice...we arrived a day late and were welcomed as though we had been there before; such a good feeling.
Our room was always cleaned very well, the bathroom was spotless!

We wished the restaurant was open for lunch too but, there are enough restaurants within reasonable walking distance.

I am requesting a refund. Last night I tried to contact you, but nobody followed up on my complaint. Around 10:30 p.m., I saw one large dead cockroach and another one alive in my room, which I had to kill. When I reported this to the receptionist, he told me I could use a spray — which is a completely inappropriate response. I explained that I have asthma, and he replied that I should have told them earlier. I said that I should not have to notify the hotel in advance in order to avoid being exposed to pesticides.

I was moved to another room, but I still could not sleep well. There was no blanket, I was unsure if there were more cockroaches, and there was no fridge in the room. Overall, I am very upset with Expedia for this experience and the lack of proper support.

Hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood. Need DiDi/Uber to go places. It is a different kind of hotel, coming from western country. Only give you limited things for breakfast. Pool is ok, but you have to claim it. If some family is using it, you cannot use it, there is no place to just hang out. Rooms are unique, with sitting area. Because of the greenery at the hotel, lots of mosquitoes, I got bit many times. It was decent hotel, but, I will not be staying there next time.

The hotel itself is beautiful, with a lovely atmosphere. I do wish the customer service had been a bit more attentive. The property is still undergoing some construction, and we noticed tools left along the walkway and near our room. We only tried breakfast once, so I can’t speak much to the food overall, but that one experience wasn’t our favorite. On a positive note, I did enjoy a wonderful massage during my stay—it was truly relaxing and a highlight of the trip.

The property is perfect for a relaxing and fun visit to Merida. The hotel pool and private plunge pools are a real plus in the hot weather. The rooms are well appointed, the air conditioning works great, and the beds are super comfortable. The greenery and plants make the outdoor space feel like a tropical paradise. Above all, the staff are exceptional. The front desk staff are very knowledgeable about Merida and take care of every detail with great professionalism. The operations team is on top of every detail. The cleaning staff and wait staff are super helpful, willing to go over and beyond to make sure guests have what they need. I highly recommend the spa, too! Hotel Unknown is like my home away from home and the only place I stay when visiting Merida. I can’t wait to go back.

The place was fully rustic. The A/C was not able to cool the living room part of the room. The bedroom, however, did manage to get cool. The floors were not as clean as they could have been- I found this out after walking on them with only my socks. It was difficult reaching our room as we had to traverse railroad ties that were half buried into the ground. The foilage leading to our room was overgrown. There was no telephone in room- glad there wasn’t an emergency.

I love this hotel. I am moving to Merida and I wanted a Merida type hotel not a big chain hotel and I found the best with hotel unknown the rooms are set up very nicely. The toiletries are excellent. I have a room with a pool. it’s delightful and the staff has been outstanding. They don’t speak a lot of English and I don’t speak a lot of Spanish but we work together to get the very best outcome for me. They were so very helpful. I could stay here forever.

Great and spacious room, comfy bed, nice shower. Easily accessible from Centro either by car or by foot. There’s construction happening around the hotel, so a bit noisy in the morning but the room darkening curtains help. The main pool seems nice and clean (didn’t use it) and the small pool in the back garden of room #4 was lovely.

Would’ve been nice to have a small fridge in the room to keep drinks cold, or complimentary ice bucket/ice.

Air conditioning worked great though!

Overall a solid place that offers a lot of value for the cost.

This is a very good hotel. The building is lovely as well as the pool. Rooms are very spacious and comfortable and the air conditioning works properly, which is a must in Merida. The one thing we were not too keen on was the fact that the hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the centre which made it difficult sometimes. The surrounding streets are very quiet and somewhat dark so that’s something to consider when you are waking back to the hotel at night.

The rooms are quite spacious, which is nice. The hotel makes an effort for clients and accommodates requests for extra blankets etc. Convenient fifteen minute walk from Merida Centro.

A few downsides: despite the netting on the windows, our room was full of mosquitos. The pool was also full of dead insects. Breakfast is mediocre. Finally, sound travels easily between the rooms.

The hotel is in Barrio de Santiago, a quiet, gentrifying area just west of the Centro. I liked the staff very much - they were super helpful and super nice and patient with my rusty Spanish. The plunge pool was very welcoming and clean, great to cool off after a hot day walking around. Walking to the room was quite tricky. Not great for unsteady walkers. The coffee at breakfast was limited to 1 cup and really, it was awful. There was a coffee maker in the room which was also limited to 1 cup each, but we didn't use it. The hot water in the shower lasted 5 minutes or so, but a tepid shower was OK given the heat. There was nowhere to hang a wet bathing suit to dry (if anything ever really dries in Mérida.) A clothesline in the shower would've been perfect. The room had a bedroom and an anteroom with a couch but it felt cave-like in that it was very dark, even with the lights on. Not enough hangers. Generally, the room was just OK though the bed was very comfortable. The location is good. The nearby Parque de Santiago has a mercado with some \"taquerias\" and \"loncherias\". Plus music and dancing on Tuesday evenings. There are cafes nearby the hotel with very good coffee. A 20-minute walk to the central plaza and to Paseo Montejo. 30 minutes to the central mercado. All-in-all, it was a pleasant stay but I will not use the hotel again. I'd prefer something lighter and brighter.

Beautiful hotel, staff was very friendly and the pool in the room was the highlight of our trip. The hotel is a bit far from Plaza Central (about 20 min walk), just to keep in mind. Rooms are spacious and bed was comfortable. Breakfast were basic and small portion but Plaza de Santiago is just 2 blocks from the hotel with the best tacos/tortas of cochinita and lechón great for breakfast. It's a must!

Unknown slice of heaven!

It truly was the unknown and then you walk through a door into heaven! I had to remind myself that I had not left Mérida! We switched from busy Paseo de Montejo area to the quiet, peaceful neighborhood of Santiago. We booked a room with a private pool & loved the peaceful small, but perfect outdoor space. The 2 bedroom was perfect for our family of 3 adults. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. One thing to note is there are a few somewhat strict rules: only one coffee pod per person/per day. Breakfast is one drink, coffee refill is extra. Be sure if you book online that your reservation has the correct number of guests. There was a little glitch with that on check in, but the staff was patient and very helpful to straighten it out. Breakfast is good! Fruit plate & eggs prepared to order! We had wonderful massages at the spa here too! There is a photo in the lobby showing what the place looked like before they renovated it! Amazing! It is truly an oasis in the city. My only complaint, but not really a complaint, is the beds are a bit hard. We still slept well because it was quiet and turned the ceiling fan on and the door with screen open to our pool. Woke up to the birds singing in the morning.
We even extended our stay here! I highly recommend Hotel Unknown! It will soon be known!

Great choice

We returned to this small and welcoming hotel and it felt like coming home. Not ultra fancy but stylishly decorated with a lot of tasteful wood accents. Really very nice and well located, close to the Santiago Park and very walkable to the main plaza and other parks. Staff very friendly. Many rooms have a little dipping pool and there is a mid sized central one on the grounds which we've always had to ourselves. The restaurant is small but pleasant and the lobby counter extends into a small bar where they'll serve you a drink. TV, safe, coffee service, all fine. Only things I'll mention are no fridge (seems common) and the pathway to rooms is sort of like railway ties, not sure how easily a wheelchair navigates the path.

They had a large updated TV and we were able to hook up our Fire stick to get US Utube and our Prime Video programing. The room was very private and breakfast was included and very convenient. The bathroom was large and plenty of counter space. The patio was attractive with a small pool but they might provide outdoor seats. Bring a small power strip with you because outlets are limited as they are in most older Mexican hotels. The staff was helpful and attentive.

The Perfect Getaway

Hotel Unknown is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The rooms are huge, incredibly clean, and come with a separate living area. The \"Standard Room\" should be called the \"Standard Suite.\" It comes with a small private garden. The room comes with solid furniture. Honestly, it's better than the pictures and rivals what I've seen in four and five star luxury hotels. The staff are very friendly and helpful and give you plenty of privacy. It's in a quiet, artsy, safe neighborhood close to the central area. There are some great cafes and restaurants very close by. The hotel allows pets. If that bothers you, you might want to ask them to put you in a room away from the lobby.

The breakfast consists of a small fruit plate, eggs, and tortillas.

We loved the place and can't wait to go back. If you like small boutique hotels, this place is *perfect*.

Nuestra experiencia por 7 noches en el \"Hotel Unknown\" fue excelente. El \"staff\" del hotel es muy amable y disponibles para ayudar con cualquier cosa o duda, como consejos de actividades y arreglos del transporte particular, etcetera. La piscina con plantas tropicales alreador es muy bonita para relajarte y refrescarte. Hay varias opciones para el desayuno diario, todo muy rico y abundante. Los cuartos son muy comodos con diseno sencillo y calmante, bien equipado. El hotel esta bien ubicada para caminar al centro o coger transporte a cualquier paseo dentro o fuera de Merida. Sobre todo nos gusto los masages que recibimos de Guillermo en el Spa que esta ubicada en el Hotel. Hay un menu de ofertas de masages diferentes que se puede escoger, y los precios muy razonables. En fin, el Hotel Unknown es \"super chil\" (calma y tranquilo) y fue perfecto para nosotras. Esperamos regresar!

Hotel muy bonito, el staff muy amable y atento, la opción de desayuno incluido es excelente porque no sales con el estómago vacío a realizar tus actividades, además de que puedes pedir algo más a la carta.
La habitación estaba limpia y dotada de aire acondicionado, mosquitero, ventilador, el baño muy amplio.
Sin dudarlo volveríamos.

This hotel is beautiful! It’s wonderfully maintained and really easy to find parking, also rather quiet compared to the city center. I will say, this is not their fault but they might want to consider redoing the doors or adding bug nets- I found a huge cockroach in my room one night and saw another going under the door to another room. It’s kinda unavoidable in the tropical climate but it would be helpful if the doors didn’t have huge gaps! In any case, it was a beautiful space and I would stay here again!

Great hotel for a romantic getaway

The hotel is beautiful and we recommended specially for couples. Is quiet and cozy, very romantic. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Do not be put off by the exterior of the street, once you are inside is very nice.
Our room had its own private pool and it was really nice.
The only possible downside is that is about a 15 minute walk from downtown or a 8 dollar UBER ride. We chose to walk and it was not bad at all.
About two blocks from the hotel is the Mercado de Santiago where you can find good food at very affordable prices.

El hotel está padrísimo, las habitaciones son espaciosas, con alberca privada, camas grandes, el baño es amplio, cómodo y moderno. En el centro de la ciudad. Tuvimos una estancia muy placentera!!

El baño huele muchísimo a caño / coladera, con el calor que hace en Mérida y el vapor de la regadera es sumamente fétido, no cuentan con agua fría y los muebles del cuarto están bastante descuidados.

El internet no funciona, te llega 4 minutos y después se vuelve a ir y si vas de trabajo como yo, te será sumamente complicado trabajar por que tampoco hay buena señal de teléfono.

This is a hidden gem in a very quiet neighborhood. Worth going for the art alone. It just feels good to be somewhere beautiful where you can feel the attention to detail. And the pool is fantastic beat the heat! Special thanks to the staff who were patient with me and let me practice Spanish with them. Truly it’s the only way to learn and it meant the world!

Rustic, airy feeling smack in the middle of town.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms are rustic but very comfortably appointed, firm beds and first class linens. The food is great and micheladas are the best. Nice and clean facility overall. A feeling of airiness in the middle of Merida. And absolutely safe.

Nice place in a convenient location

Pleasant small hotel, well maintained with friendly staff. We ate at the restaurant one evening and it really delivered on the local specialties. The immediate area of the hotel is quiet and residential but you are a few quick blocks from Santiago park, which had food, dancing, great desserts etc

This hotel charged my credit card for smoking in the property, which I did not do. The rooms are not sealed properly to the outside so bugs and ants got into the room along with sounds and odors from the outside penetrate the room easily. The floors were dirty and dusty upon arrival. I would strongly advise against staying at this hotel if you can avoid it.

Overall the hotel has an awesome look. Including the outdoor walkway to the rooms and pool. But the surface of the walkway is irregular, making it impossible to roll a suitcase. (I think staff is available to help with this, though.) And maybe a little tricky to navigate after dark or drinks. Great room including sitting room and washroom. Definitely recommend.

Decent, quiet hotel outside town center

Mario, Jose, Wendy & Karime were excellent! We had trouble with our toilet flushing at checkin but found out just run the bathroom sink water and the pressure builds. The staff I mentioned were quick to respond to our requests and very friendly. Their onsite massages are very reasonably priced and a very nice way to unwind after a day touring. Then a few nights into our stay, after a full day of sightseeing, we returned to find brown water coming out of the sink and filling the toilet. Also all of the water pressure was gone from the shower. The staff quickly got us access to another room to shower and then we just decided to stay in that room because the water pressure was so much better. Overall the location of the hotel is in the very quiet neighborhood of Santiago It is about a one mile walk to the main town center which during the day isn’t bad but because of the poor sidewalk quality we always took a taxi or Uber when it was dark. There are also a couple nearby bars with nightly live music which were fun. Overall the hotel was worth the price we paid but we probably would look for something closer to the main square on a future visit.
