We enjoyed the location of the property. The staff and service was excellent. We have kids and the room that was assigned to us was beside the elevator. The kids could not sleep because they were bothered by the noise of the elevator. We would recommend booking a Junior Suite and not a standard room.

Horrible experience at this property, they changed our rooms 3 .

The first room had a steep to go to the bathroom of approximately 10 inches and another one to enter the room, and had mobility issues. This room had mold in the walls, shower head was cover in a white substance not at all appealing to take a shower.

The second room, the shower head didn’t work, and water came all over the bathroom that flooded the room. After the issue I had to clean the shower head to take a descent shower, a/c didn’t worked at all. On the fourth day the shower glass door hinges started to fall apart.

Finally they changed us to a much better room but the bed sheets were dirty.we do NOT recommend this hotel .

Some of the restaurant staff were nice, but others great you with an attitude and the look mad at you. Some days some of the staff after a mediocre service and food demanded tips.

when we got there on Friday 16th. We were welcomed and placed in ground floor rooms in front of the pool. BOTH ROOMS WERE MOLDY AND SMELLED TERRIBLE .Rooms were not clean -toilets old and dirty.
we were told that the pool will be closed by 10;00pm BUT people at the pool and bar were singing , screaming and yelling almost till 11;00pm.-so loud we could not rest or sleep.THEY WERE NOISE ALMOST ALL NIGHT . I will never go back to this hotel nor recommend it.

Im upset with this property at this moment,
First of all the restaurant staff are non sociable no acknowledgement of any kind.
Also, if you are planning on checking out a day or two earlier be aware there is no refund of any kind even though you are giving a 24hrs. Notice.
We reserved 5 rooms for 4 nights we checked in
One day earlier and paid for our day early direct to our hotel im not quite sure who is not wanting to give back a refund Expedia or Maria del Carmen Hotel. Maria del Carmen says Expedia and Expedia says Maria del Carmen. This is very frustrating.

This hotel is very nice but it needs to upgrade Internet access. Internet access was almost non-existent. Faded in and out every few seconds. Also, found it difficult to get any service in the dining area. Saw others having the same problem. Staff seemed to be occupied elsewhere and food was cold - had just been warmed up, not fresh.

The close location to Plaza Grande and the pool area were the main reasons I chose a Hotel at this price.
The pool area was ok...open area with the friendly staff serving tasty drinks and food at very reasonable prices. Some days the pool did not appear clean enough for me to get into though, which I'm sure was due to the high volume of swimmers that used it.
The restaurant and food was very tasty and reasonably priced, there is free parking if you have a vehicle, and the rooms are kept very clean.
Low Points - rooms and other areas of the property are pretty outdated, including beds in the room had no support, the air conditioner leaked and required repairing twice, wifi is slow to non-existent at times and paper thin walls made it quite noisy at times.
Would I stay there again.... probably not. Would I recommend it to someone looking to save a few bucks for a few days ..... yes. The staff, location, prices, and \"Charm\" will grow on you as it did me.

Staff were very friendly. Building and rooms appear much nicer on website photos. We moved rooms for various reasons due to the building conditions. The new room had a leak in the bathroom and they duct taped it and painted over to repair. WiFi’s was terrible in the rooms, and mediocre in the common areas. It’s a shame because there could be a lot of potential in this hotel, but if you’re looking for something very basic at a decent price you will be fine. If you’re looking for a little luxury, you will be disappointed.

I liked and enjoyed the close proximity to the main square. It is about a 5min walk and you are at the main plaza with all that it beholds. The kitchen opening early and closing late was also something I enjoyed. I did not like the condition of my room. I feel like the only problem was it was outdated, and the TV did and did not work at times. Other than that, the staff made me feel comfortable. The gentlemen were very respectful towards my wife and I. Overall we had a good stay, they also assisted us when we asked for extra towels, soap, and shampoo.

They provide cleaning services everyday, also replenishing the toilet paper, towels and 2 bottles of water for the coffee machine. My only qualm is that I paid the breakfast rate through Expedia thinking it was for the buffet, but it’s not. It’s for American breakfast, which is great if you’re a meat-eater. If you’re like me, and don’t eat meat or eggs, you will not get a refund because it was done through Expedia.

The stay at the hotel was horrible from the very beginning. The staff was rude and barely spoke to the guest. After getting to our room after traveling for hours come to find out it reeked like smoke! The staff questioned my group and tried charging us for the smoke smell. Forget about asking for an extra towel because they will tell you no. Never again would i stay at this hotel. Completely horrible experience.

Great staff, 3-4 blocks from Plaza Grande. Free parking included if you have a rental car but I would never try to drive in the city. A relative who is a former NYC cab driver managed nicely for us, but cabs are cheap and easy to get - 25 peso minimum $1 USD = 17, 4 rider max. Seldom had over 40 peso ride. Hotel shows more evidence of deferred maintenance than I expected (e.g.,broken tabletops, chairs poolside) but none that interfered with our enjoyment. Shower delivered pitifully low stream, a result of the very “hard” water that makes it almost impossible to work up a lather, but this is true of all the hotels there. AC was great. Would likely stay here again on return trip.

We actually booked this hotel for our last night in Mérida after having had a horrendous experience with another near-by hotel and Hotel María del Carmen was a God-sent. The staff was very nice and pleasant, the drinks cheap, the location centric and the breakfast good. This is a great option for the area. Not to mention room prices are very affordable here!

There were both pros and cons to this stay. The location is incredible! It is a very short walk (5-7 minutes) to Plaza Grande, there is a nice Cantina about 1 minute away....everything is very accessible! The staff is nice enough, nothing to go out of their way, but were helpful when needed. They were very excited to sell a tour, but I wouldn't book through them again. The rooms are fine, but the maids will always come in to clean the room daily (even with the do not disturb sign on the door). During my stay, they were doing construction, and there was constant and very loud pounding from 8 a.m. until some time into the afternoon/evening, which was frustrating. The restaurant is not good, the food is barely mediocre. With so many other places, venture out and don't eat the food at the hotel. I booked this primarily because the pool area looked great and for the location. There's really not much atmosphere at the pool area, and mixed drinks from the bar are not great (and I tried several). Overall, the location was the best thing about the hotel. It was acceptable for the price, but I would likely not stay there again.

Mu husband and I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We ended up booking an extra night.
Check in was a tad confusing, telling us we didn't have a reservation, had to show them my confirmation on my phone. Told us to wait 5 minutes, then proceeded to check in a whole bus of people before us.
Upon reaching our room, AC did not work. On our way to get food, notified the front desk. Returned to find it had been taken care of.
The staff were all really friendly and helpful. The hotel very clean. They are constantly cleaning.
Our room and bathroom were very spacious. There was also a safe.
There is a happy hour every day from 6pm-9pm, cocktails two for one and 5 beers for $8. Insane prices. The prices to begin with were exceptionly cheap.
Our room came with an American breakfast, eggs, ( however you want them) bacon, fruit plate, toast, coffee. Very filling. Also available is a la carte or buffet on weekends.
We had dinner here each night as well. Some good Yukatan choices.
Our only advice would be, to maybe do some painting and basic maintenance. Otherwise a great place with wonderful staff, close to downtown, easy walk, and super prices.

The place had a stinky smell, especially in the elevator and room that fortunately was not always there. Some confusion initially about the breakfast that was included but not the buffet ... TV only has about 10 Spanish stations, not really an issue as we were not there yo watch tv, WiFi was spotty despite having many connection points, it would so.etimes drop.

Pros: The room was spacious. The food was delicious, especially the weekend buffets. Great price for the stay. Close enough walking distance to the center of town but far away enough to get a restful nights sleep.

The front desk was very helpful, made checking in and out a breeze.

Everything is a few blocks walking distance: zócal, bus stations going to progresso or Cancun.

Cons: The bathroom is a bit small and the door to the bathroom is right next to bed. Awkward to get into and out of. If they moved the bed over to the opposite side of the room it would help a lot. There is no ventilation/fan in the bathroom.

The pool dining area needs work. There was a huge crack and hole in our table. There was also a crazy hole in the ground next to the table. If you don't pay attention your chair leg could go in there as your scooting closer to the table and fall in. Not safe.

The room could use a fridge.

The important things are provided. (cold air conditioning and hot water) The rooms are comfortable and clean. Pool bar and restaurant are open until 11PM. The plastic tables with umbrellas that are poolside need updating. Very friendly staff. Not many foreign visitors, but we were treated well.

I would be extremely careful with the lougage we had a bad experience where the housekeeper went through my wife's luggage and stole some items we contacted the front desk and asked to speak with a manager and there was never one available, the hotel isn't that bad, we had a great stay with exception of the theft we experienced

Very authentic... not an American comfy hotel... but we loved it. Resturant was awesome and cheap. All employees were friendly even if they didn't understand English. Everyone tried to make our stay great. Perfectly located to see all of the old historical places but not be surrounded by tourists just 4 blocks away. Pool was beautiful as well. Only problem is that the bed was hard. Yet we slept quite well despite of the bad. Showers were great. AC worked fantastically!

If you want to save money and have a comfortable stay, you won't be too disappointed here. It is an old hotel, but the staff is working hard to please. I chose this place for the prices and the pool. One morning there was live music in the restaurant and there was a nice buffet. Very few \"Gringos\" here, but the staff was very nice about our lack of Spanish. Alan and Jonny {the bellmen} could communicate in English and were very helpful. My wife and I never felt unsafe here. I would stay here again.

Ok, if you're on a budget

The lady at the front desk was rude upon arrival. Luckily the bellhop was a lot kinder and helped us to our room (he also helped us with a car rental, which was very nice). The room is basic, except our comforter had lipstick stains on it and our bathroom was locked from the inside (so we had to wait 30 minutes for them to fix it in order to shower). There is a parking lot on site which is also a bonus (if you plan on driving there or renting a car). The elevator was junky and the pool was way too crowded and loud with kids, so we never used it. The hotel is about 3 or 4 blocks from the main plaza, so it's convenient and there is also a convenience store a few blocks away for necessities. Overall rated a 3 because it wasn't horrible but it wasn't very nice either... just middle of the road.

This hotel is close to the center of the city. It was clean and the staff very friendly. The restaurant has a varied menu and good prices. The breakfast buffet is excellent. The bar pool was quiet and offers a happy hour between 6 and 9 PM every day. Although they were working around the pool there was only a minor disruption. Overall a pleasant experience and we would return there when we visit Merida again.

Good value for money

It was largely good. The staff is not so accommodating. Our flight was in the afternoon and they wouldn't accommodate a check out delayed by a couple of hours. Inhouse restaurant was cheap. Facility is clean and well maintained.

Not like pictures online!!!

The pictures online were not representative of the room we were given. There was black mold everywhere in the room and a/c did not work for the first hour we were there. I had to complain to the staff that looked at me like I was crazy when I told them it was not working. Power went sometime during the night and the a/c was off again for well over an hour.

After one night we canceled the rest of our reservation at this hotel, and thankfully the staff were helpful with this.

Good location, nice pool

The location was good and everything was clean, safe etc. Pool and bar there were great! Staff in that area are friendly and helpful, less so on reception. Bit noisy due to work going on. Rooms overlooking pool looked nicer than mine if you get the choice!
