Room was ok - old premier inn? - for a budget hotel it’s ok, creaky floorboards and whoever was upstairs seemed to be practising their Cossack dancing but not the fault of the hotel.

The receptionist later explained that she was also doing the rooms and there was no longer a device to let her know we were waiting, hotel needs to employ more cleaners!

TVs in 2 rooms not working. Room cleaning not available “due to staff illness”. Lots of litter in car park. Derelict restaurant boarded up next door. Charges for car park. Main door locked at 4pm and I had to be let in - doesn’t suggest area is safe? 2 mile walk into town in very dull along a dual carriageway and nearest metro station 20 mins away. But clean and staff were pleasant.

As I pulled into the car park it dawned on me that I had stayed there before but it had been a Premier Inn back then. I am not sure why it was no longer part of that chain but it hadn't really changed. It was the same as it used to be. It was clean and tidy and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
One word of warning: On their website they say they are in walking distance of the city centre amenities such as the Emporium Theatre (which is why we were there). We used Google maps to plan our walk and when it suggested it would take 50 mins we decided that was a little too much of a stroll to the theatre and back.

Other than that this is a very good, value for money, hotel with lovely staff.

Very dated, you definitely get what you pay for here. Rooms clean and comfortable enough, staff good at check in, very rude at breakfast, we didn’t bother staying for breakfast in the end we walked to the retail park and ate there. Sign on reception said 20 minute walk to Stadium of Light but it’s definitely 30-40 minutes. Would I return, no not really.

The staff were efficient, welcoming and happy to help. We wanted a cheap & functional room and that’s what we got with a bonus of a fan.

The parking was fantastic value - £5 for 24hrs and an easy walk to The Stadium of Light mainly along a pedestrian route.

Room was dirty and very hot . I had pre booked a cot no cot in room so had to got to reception. No milk sugar one cup and spoon for a hot drink when there should be two. Paid for cooked breakfast to find out it's only continent breakfast reception staff was helpful. Would i stay again no not for me over priced and not what i was looking for in my stay

Hottle Review – Stayed with Family (2 Adults, 2 Children)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3 out of 5)

We stayed here as a family (2 adults and 2 children). The room was simple but neat and spacious enough for our needs. Cleanliness was good, and the location is convenient. Parking was reasonably priced at £5 per night, with occasional discounts available.

The overall price was fair compared to similar accommodations — we paid around £90 for one night. Most of the staff were friendly, especially one lovely lady working the Sunday morning shift on June 22nd. I regret not getting her name, but I want to thank her and hope the hotel management appreciates her excellent service.

Breakfast wasn't a buffet and had limited options, but given the price, it was acceptable and we were satisfied.

There are a few downsides to be aware of:

No lift

No gym

No air conditioning. This could be an issue in warm weather — the room only had a fan, which didn’t work well when temperatures rose.

In summary:

Room: Simple, clean, and spacious

Cleanliness: Good

Location: Convenient

Price: Fair

Staff: Mixed — some average, one exceptional

Breakfast: Limited, but acceptable

Facilities: Lacking A/C, lift, and gym

Overall, a decent stay. I’d rate it 3 out of 5.

The hotel has recently been changed over from a migrant hotel back to a functional hotel. However very little has been done to bring it back to a functional accommodation. I would not take a UV light to either carpets or beds. It is clear the place needs a full refurb. When you arrive the first thing you notice is the derelict pub next to the entrance. The receptionist who would prefer to be somewhere else and has an attitude akin to the tired and unwelcoming property. The rooms are dirty, we did not take our shoes off in the room, as the carpet was covered in stains. The saving grace was the cold ridden receptionist in the morning who went out of her way to make breakfast pleasant. Will never stay again!

I was a bit dubious at 1st, we had the breakfast but it seems the do each individual person at a time on the 1st day, but the 2nd day the had some warmers, its was nice.
Rooms were tidy and clean. Looks like an old premier inn taken over by best west. I over heard some say they only had it couple of months. Will stay again.

The outside of the building is deceptive. What happens within is amazing. This hotel is really well run and the friendly and helpful staff all seem to work together as a team. Full marks to Emma, Taran, Helen and Lyndsey. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they created a welcoming and and happy atmosphere. Comfortable beds and a great breakfast. A good budget hotel to stay. Staff are friendly and helpfull. The only thing is that the breakfast is just reheated and not cooked fresh there. Omelete was served cold as it was not cooked properly from frozen but in general not a bad place to stay. Short distance to Newcastle as well.

Upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted with a warm attitude, the member of staff on desk on arrival was very friendly with my 4 year old daughter whom is very talkative and loves meeting new people.
Our room was to a good standard - clean, spacious and had everything we needed including an en-suite bathroom, a TV, toiletries and a fan which kept us cool during the night.
We had breakfast in the morning which was up to a good standard and the member of staff on the desk at breakfast time was incredibly friendly. Overall I’d give the property a 9 out of 10. There was only one issue which was the location, it wasn’t the most ideal for our plans for the next day but the overall experience was excellent and I would return again providing that the location is convenient for our plans.

The staff were outstanding. It could of been a 5 star hotel. The gent on recreation offered to carry bags. Advised on the local area. Asked how we were and about our day.
There was even an Easter delivery to the room. Unexpected but very lovely. All the staff went above and beyond here.

It's a simple, no -frills establishment, which doesn't have a lift just so people are aware, which if you don't have a lot of luggage is okay. Very comfortable bed, and it was quiet where we were, so we couldn't ask for more. It does have easy access to an extensive retail park and a large Sainsbury's if you need supplies, so not a terrible location (Don't let the derelict building next door put you off). Cheap and cheerful, with immensely lovely and accommodating staff. The breakfast is a little limited, but does offer the basics, so isn't that bad. Recommended as a place to stay that isn't extortionate.

Hands down the worst hotel we have ever stayed in! We booked this very last minute so we could pop up and visit family. The whole building is very tired as are the rooms, but the room was clean and needs updating. The bed was really uncomfortable and dipped in the middle. This hotel appears to be used as an over spill for families who are homeless etc for what ever reason. We had the pleasure of being stood behind them while they were checking in, with their list of demands as to which rooms they wanted and what free drinks they wanted. The young girl on the desk seemed intimidated by them. As we left to go out for a meal last night, 2 young females were sat in the entrance to the lobby smoking weed in front of the reception staff. The hotel was noisy. The people above us seemed to spend their entire night stomping backwards and forwards across the floor of their room and then we caught the live show as they had sex very noisily! The security door to the corridor to the rooms, is open 24/7 so it didn't feel safe. Our car didn't feel secure in the car park, and there was groups of young lads on bikes, just hanging around. The derelict building next door is a complete eyesore and this is advertised as a restaurant and bar on site. It's been closed for a very long time. All in all it was a horrendous experience.

It’s a hotel on a retail park so I didn’t expect too much. It was clean and comfortable, very basic.

There was a lovely restaurant next door which was fine to take the kids in upstairs.

There was a bar downstairs (beneath the restaurant) with a live DJ set (Saturday night) but we heard nothing from our room at front of the hotel, right next to the bar.

Breakfast in a bag - as expected, porridge, water, fruit, croissant

Couldn’t regulate the heating in the room, so it was roasting hot all night.

I stayed for two nights with my young daughter. The Wednesday all night until around 2am was talking really loud, banging and banging of doors until then. Me and my daughter didn’t get much sleep at all. Then Thursday night someone set the smoke alarm off in the room next to me at 10.30pm. Then all they was doing was talking loud and banging again. This is not my best stay at this hotel at all. My daughter is only 1 so as you can imagine wasn’t the best stay at all. I certainly don’t know if I will be coming back to this hotel

Having previously stayed many times I was shocked and disappointed by the condition of this once well maintained value hotel. It’s clearly tired and in need of renovation, from broken door furniture, split shower hose, to non functional extractor fans - it just needs some TLC and updating. The included breakfast is served to you in a plastic bin liner (possibly due to the current COVID-19 situation)? water, cereal bar and porridge pot or yogurt - this was appreciated. Rooms don’t have much insulation, broken night’s sleep due to middle of the night stomping from the room above. No air conditioning which we knew, but no fans available from reception as they had apparently already given out all they had. It’s worth mentioning that the location is next door to a pub and the noise level is as such you couldn’t have a window open. Also, as much as I appreciate it’s out of the control of the hotel - we came out to a badly scratched car in the morning. Something worth mentioning to those considering parking in the hotel car park which is also used by patrons of the public house.

The Hotel is good for a quick stop over. I would advice watching out for the 'Continental Breakfast'. This was given on arrival & included a yogurt that should be kept in the fridge, the one given was already two days out of date & of course there are no fridges in the room.
