Our arrival was good given top floor level 8 so fair to good views of the sea ( paid for extra when booking the ticket price)
The hotel is ‘mature’ lets say. Seasoned not old.. it requires some updating but not to lose its heritage feel.
Rooms smaller than expected but has most modern features you need.
Perhaps a duplicate of usb or c-2-c ports beside both sides of the bed would be useful for couples having similar technology that requires charging!
Food was good - we chose b&b as local food is great, fresh & cheap too so saved lots of ringgits!
All staff pleasant friendly & professional and happy to help.
Pool is small and family friendly no shouty children thank goodness but small families enjoying the precious quality time spent together in sunshine & luxury.
Grab taxis were a blessing and cheap enough to get you where you need to be so used them daily. Recommend using @GetYourGuide tour with G-Shen for the Penang Hill tour - worth every penny & learned so much from him!
We stayed 8 days and loved everyday even the exhilarating lightning storms across the sea in front of our balcony! They were alternating evenings after sunset in April.
Shangri la hotels are good.. would like to experience all their hotels around the world eventually!

Lovely hotel, great location around an hour's drive from the airport, 30 mins by car from Georgetown, and around 10 minutes' walk to local shops and restaurants.
Great grounds, facilities in the Rasa Wing are fab - adults only pool is fab, and the complementary afternoon tea and cocktail hour are well worth it!
Rooms are lovely and well-equipped, management of the sunbeds means it's always possible to find some to settle in on, and staff are always happy to help you with anything you need.
There are numerous places to eat at the hotel (food is great quality and a wide variety of options), but do check out the fabulous food market around 10 mins' walk away where you can get a huge variety of food at great prices.

There's not enough staff during the check-in process. Other than that, the resort was wonderful. Great staff, wonderful breakfast, nice Spa, happy hour from 5-7 pm in the lounge and you can walk to a nearby hawker centre for food. If you're traveling with adults only, I would recommend staying on the Rasa side (for the extra costs).

The pool area was fabulous. I’ve included a photo from our balcony looking at a 200 year-old tree. The hotel staff were so very gracious and friendly. This is easily one of the top two hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Our room was huge, with a very modern bathroom.

Checked in at 5pm. Room wasn’t ready. Nice staff. Adult only pool was closed at 7pm with access only to the Rasa Wing. Pool we were offered was filled with kids and families. Said beachfront but there was no beach you could get to the water as it has eroded away and is blocked by rock wall.

What an absolutely fantastic stay at the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang! From the moment we arrived, we were swept away by this beautiful resort.

Unforgettable Experience

The rooms were wonderful, offering a perfect blend of comfort and elegance. And the food? Simply amazing! Every meal was a delightful culinary journey. We especially loved the tranquil atmosphere of the quiet adults-only pool – it was the perfect escape for relaxation.

Exceptional Service

A special shout-out goes to Michelle, the Front Office Manager. Her attention to detail and genuine care for us was truly remarkable. We were so grateful for the room upgrade she provided; it made our stay even more special.
We also have to commend the room service attendant who catered to all our needs with such efficiency and a friendly demeanor. Their service was truly awesome!

Every aspect of our stay at the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang exceeded our expectations. We can't wait to return to this little slice of paradise!

Overall a great stay. Rooms spacious and have a great view over the garden, pool and sea view. Staff were really friendly and aside from check in, all incredibly helpful and pleasant. Good breakfast buffet. Great pool options, good gym and even has a par 3 pitch and putt which was a bit of fun. Special shoutout to Karim and Muru. Only downside was the check in - 3pm check in and they still could not get a room ready or allocated to us until 4.30pm (we had to leave 5pm for a booking that they were aware of). We were simply told sorry and had to constantly follow up. Was evdient the resort was not at capacity either. Room was obviously rushed as mugs were missing, used utensils still in room etc. Was rectified urgently by Karim. Would return, hopefully with a better check in experience

I wished they told us that this was a Family Holiday hotel. The place was packed with screaming kids, especially around the swimming pool which was tiny. When the fully clothed families packed this pool, the water became murky and smell. Pretty horrid. There is absolutely no eating places in the neighbourhood. And the traffic jams to get in and out of the place meant you are stuck eating at its Coffee Shop with the screaming kids for the duration of your stay. The staff were extremely friendly though.

We absolutely loved this hotel - the room was spacious and well kept and stocked. Shout out to our daily room attendant, Momin who was very pleasant and responsive/perceptive to our needs. Loved the pool and the garden and whole property including the spa where you get your services in your own mini villa - that’s luxury!
The pool was also amazing with excellent service for food and drinks and towels. Every morning as soon as they saw us they would walk over with the towels and set up the loungers for us. When it got busy we noticed that the attendants would work hard to find loungers for everyone including bringing chairs over from another area to the pool area.
Saved the best for last - the food is incredible - the selection especially of local foods/dishes and taste!
Shout out to the dining room manager, Vijay who seemed to be there all the time and working hard to provide the best service to us guests.
For us, this was a hotel that clearly goes above and beyond so kudos - keep it up, we will definitely be back and strongly recommend it to family and friends!

The resort is beautiful and very well maintained. Right upon check-in, the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The rooms was great.

The additional amenities for the Rasa Wing guests is well worth it if you're planning to enjoy the hotel throughout the day. They offer a complimentary tea hour, as well as a cocktail hour.

It is around a 30-40 minute drive to George Town, so not that convenient if you're planning to visit the town often.

I highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed in Rasaya wing, as we always go for a suite. The room size, layout, the ambience everything was perfect. The access to the lounge was a bonus that we didn’t expect. The staff were fantastic.

The only downside was the quality of the vegetarian options. What we ordered for in room dining was totally unpalatable even with hungry stomach. Looks like they have no idea about vegetarian cooking. I did speak to the Chef and the manager about this. Because we would like revisit this property for a longer duration.

Nice resort and rooms looking onto pool and beach area have a nice outlook. Large breakfast areas, we were in the rasa wing with club facilities, food in lounge was nice, staff in lounge were lovely however the lounge is v large and often extremely busy. There isn’t really a beach as the coast has eroded and is all rocks. We had a pleasant stay however have been in nicer shangrila hotels.

The hotel is ready for a refresh of the decor and furnishings, looking a little bit tired and dated in places.
Staff are welcoming and helpful.
We ended up being here in August, hot and humid (not through choice, but necessity!) and a November to March break would be a better time to visit for the weather

This is a beautiful hotel and grounds, breakfast is the best EVER, pool was great/warm. Despite having a lot of guests there, it didn't feel overly crowded. It's also walkable to the little market area, which was nice, and pretty close/fast to the Penang National Park, which was nice. Definitely quite a haul to Georgetown with traffic - in the 45 mins range minimum/1 hr to the airport which seems far in a small area. We loved it though and are glad we stayed here - just don't think (as I did) that you can pop back and forth to Georgetown easily.

40 years since we where married we booked what we thought was one of the best hotel in Asia Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang to celebrate our special day.

I was wearing a traditional Scottish kilt, the manager of the Resturant was exceptionally insulting. Telling me national dress is not welcome in his Resturant, he offered to call security and even the police, I said can I film him making the statement as its a huge insult ( I never filmed him ) As a you tuber with hundreds of thousands of followers I filmed just me I feal so Low thank you Shangri-La Rasa for destroying our 40 wedding anniversary, the director of FB was much nicer and gave us a table by the pool.

I feel so depressed as a brand like Shangri-La you don't need a manager like you have in your Resturant, you have I insulted not just me but our nation 😥😥

Fantastic resort

Way beyond our expectations in terms of service. From the minute we arrived, the service was impeccable. Upgraded to Rasa wing which came with added benefits such as a less crowded breakfast room, afternoon tea and cocktail hour. Buffet breakfast was also one of the best I’ve ever seen, so much choice. The beach is the only thing that lets it down.

We have booked this property confident in the brand and looking forward to a relaxing and high end stay, but it turns out to be simply abysmal.
To begin with, the marketing is completely deceiving and indeed so inaccurate, better described as false advertising. The images portrays a well maintained and new establishment, when in fact is the complete opposite. Tiles missing on pool, carpet stained in lobby entrance, walls in the room ruined/dirty, swimming towels ripped &/or stained, terrace chairs ruined (see pictures) etc.
Whilst it is described as “Shangri La Rasa” there are in fact two hotels within the establishment: La Rasa Garden & Wing - be aware guests are treated completely different.
If you happen to have booked at the Garden, you are treated like a second class guess. Good luck in having a good night sleep! For some inexplicable reason, there are a couple of (kind of) musicians, singing until past midnight to an empty audience every night. During our stay we complained for the lack of rest and we were told it was an event and they could not do much about it. Completely lied to us, didn’t even apologise or try to mitigate the situation.
To make things worse, one night at 1:23 am the telephone rang shortly after having managed to fall asleep, to be asked by reception “have you ordered some tea?”. We brought a complaint forward to the manag,ent explaining all the above and absolutely no attempt were made to apologies for the horrendous stay.
DO NOT BOOK HERE!!!!
