We booked 2 rooms with the king bed over looking the beach. Overall, we stayed total of 13 nights for the 2 rooms.
The hotel staff were helpful and professional. One of them, Tirah, she went above and beyond for us. She resolved our problem when cigarettes smoke permeate our room. The food at the restaurant was also good.

Great location with beautiful beach front and nice pool. Rooms are large. However this experience didn’t live up to what I expected of a well known international hotel brand. The rooms were noisy, we had to asked to be moved as we could hear everything through an adjoining door to the room next door. There was black mould in the shower and despite staying 9 nights our room was not cleaned once, just made up daily. A few times we came back late in the afternoon and our room still hadn’t been made up. The WiFi hardly ever worked in our room. If you wanted to ask reception about anything it was always very slow to be able to speak to someone.

Great family hotel on the beach

It was our annual family getaway and Mercure Penang Beach ticked off most of the checkboxes except a few! The room was great with a fantastic view of the sea. A nice pool and the beach just in front was wonderful. However, we faced few issues with service. On the first day after the check-in, they seemed to have misplaced our luggage. It took a couple of hours and multiple calls to the front desk to finally get our luggages in the room.Also the housekeeping could be a bit more thorough as both the shampoo and the toilet paper were out in the bathroom and we had to call the front desk to get replacement.

One of the point like to share is lack of room amenities. The superior room (road view) do not have bathmat, no hand tower (but provide face tower) which i think are essential.

Nice hotel near(ish) to George Town

Nice hotel on north coast of Penang. The pool was great. Quite far from George Town but only 20-25 minutes by bus. Bus stop was outside hotel. The hotel was a long way from the airport, so I recommend using the Grab app to get to the hotel. We also used Grab to get to Penang Hill and Kek Lok Si temple. The room was really nice and spacious. Breakfast was good.

Great hotel but cramped bathroom

It's a nice hotel for the rate charged. Great service and nice location by the beach. Only complaint I have is the cramped bathroom. The door to the bathroom opens inwards and makes it very tight to move around in the bathroom. I don't understand why they don't have the door open outwards instead. The door frames will allow that.

Hotel is looking very tired. Vinyl clad couch in our room was split in many places. TV show options were very poor to say the least. Having said that the room staff were very good and the bed was comfy. There is nowhere to sit in a/c comfort when you check out and are waiting to be picked up. There is no booklet explaining the hotel facilities and how to get around the local area in the room. Overall disappointing 😞

The hotel is in a good position with direct access to the beech, 20 mins by taxi from central Georgetown.
The staff are helpful. Th bedrooms are ok but pretty tired - Mercure should look an overhaul of the furniture and decor. Bedrooms also suffer from corridor noise at night.
No bar during day and big opportunity to sell food and drink during the day missed. I can’t really recommend as there is not enough nearby to compensate for Hotel offer.

Very poor would not stay with Mercure again

We had a very poor experience at this hotel and would not recommend.

Upon arrival the check in staff could not locate our booking. We waited over 30 minutes until they eventually found it.

There were stains on the bathrobes, sheet and towels, The bathroom flooded every time the shower was used and there were ants all over the bathroom.

Despite being a non smoking room and floor there was a constant smell of fresh cigarette smoke so much so it woke me up in the middle of the night to check for fire.

The service was poor, often there were no tables for breakfast and there was no cutlery available on most mornings.
During the dinner service my kids waited 45 minutes after my food arrived for theirs, close to 1.5 hours for basic food and only 2 tables seaters

The bar was too noisy so we left we only to be told we can’t drink alcohol in the restaurant (with our meal).

I was very disappointed in the lack of service.

Staff were nice and polite. However, cleanliness needs to be improved. There were 2 times they gave dirty pillow especially when we asked for new ones due to lipstick stain and shoe prints found on the old pillows. I guess you do get what you paid for. Would advise families with young children to pay for a better hotel if affordability is a non-issue.

We were there at noon (check in time 2.00) and the hotel was practically empty yet they refused to check us in. We’ve been staying in hotels since Jan 2023 and most hotels would check us in so long as they had rooms. Guests were jumping into swimming pool fully clothed, looked like some crummy no-star hotel. ☹️

Great location, stunning ocean views, clean and comfortable rooms. But really disappointed in how some people would think it's ok to smoke inside the hotel. We had to request the staff to get a different room after they couldn't locate whoever was smoking. The smell would carry through the vents on and off. Definitely a big inconvenience with a 1.5 year old. Staff had to be nudged a few times before they could accommodate us. Parking is free but limited, with more free parking available at the underground parking at the plaza next door.

If you are used to 4 and 5-star resorts, you can probably see the value for the price is lacking. There are competitive resorts nearby offering better value for the price. Google reviews had several negative comments, but the service has improved since then. However, senior management may not supervise the day-to-day running in the hotel and staff at times are stretched. Noon checkout had only one poor employee trying to deal with way too much on the day before we checked out. The line was way too long to be acceptable. Management should ensure their staff are not overburdened as the cleaners were rushed to do their job effectively and certainly did not do a top-class clean even though the COVID cleaning signs stated otherwise. The most significant selling point is the beach out the front with the pool and gym next to the beach. The beach location is their winning ticket but the hotel needs senior managers to be on the ground with the staff and start looking closer at the finer details that are meant for 4-star resorts.

Appalling value - staff tried their best but seriously understaffed - bathroom mat stained yellow, toilet and floors dirty when we checked in. Safe broken, towel rack broken, floor boards coming up. Quality equipment in gym but filthy - floor littered, broken sockets, broken water dispenser. Normal drinks menu given at dinner but only Tiger beer and a white wine available - no other drinks on sale in the hotel. Potentially a stunning beach but littered and uncared for with debris everywhere. Breakfast was unbelievably poor and the few items stone cold. Given the current COVID pandemic hygiene and cleanliness shocking. Cut our losses and left.

Amazing stay!

Amazing stay at the Mecure. Great location if you are going on holiday to relax, but also explore. It is a 20 minute drive to town, and has the beach on its doorstep. Breakfast is great and staff are extremely friendly and professional! Hotel does free daily trips to the night market. Would defo visit again! Thanks for an awesome stay!

Only objection which other people have mentioned is the condition of shower recess. Grouting coming off, moulds building up. Management needs to clean up the shower recess regrout or resilicon and get rid of any mould that may be behind the tiles. advert states that there's a washing machine but there isn't.

Overall the room is ok but the floor and wall is too thin until we can hear every single noise from upstairs and walkway. It was a torture when we have active guests above us who keeps jumping and running on the floor.
The breakfast is a little disappointed. For someone we dislike carbohydrate, there is not much choices. The fried kuey teow station presented a super dark kuey teow and inedible salty taste.

I chose the largest room for my old parents. I asked the receptionist whether the room was near the elevator, she confidently said yes. I had to let the concierge take my parents to the room because there was no parking space. I had to park in the next building, which was also owned by the hotel, but it was basement parking, and i had to walk far. I went to the room only to discover it was very far from the elevator. I complained to the receptionist the next day. She said i could switch room. My parents had already used their old bodies to walk to the room while i parked the car. Why bother changing room. The receptionist had to be sure before saying the room was near the elevator. Very bad mistake. The food was not as good, too. The only plus is the char kuey teow and beehoon. The rest was below average. The nasi lemak was not well cooked.

Convenient beach location with horrible service

We wanted to stay close to Georgetown but on a beach and this was the best. Room was typical Mercure which is ok but with view of beach and pool which was awesome. Restaurant was decent but service is horrific. Staff was super nice but not attentive. You have to call them for everything. Super slow. We had to call twice to get our room clean after first day they just skipped us. You can’t get food or drinks by the oool which is a shame because it’s right on the beach. You have to ask them to put cushions on the lounges by the pool and then they just put outvyiurs and all guests have to request (until about 2pm then they sometimes will put it out. If this wasn’t on the beach and inexpensive I would not stay here. Better service on Gurney. But no beach right now with all the construction.

The only good thing about this place is that check-in staff are friendly. The property itself looks unkempt with dirty walls in the room. On our last night, towels went missing- 2 sets became 1 set. Food was so-so. You’ll find better priced and better tasting food elsewhere. Other staff weren’t so friendly and prompt either e.g. assistance over the hotel phone.

We book for 2 room and was given room 215 & 217 just right beside each other was happy about that. Very modern, clean environment, refreshing colors and the view around the hotel was fabulous.

The breakfast range was really surprising and there is a staff by the name of Vicky was very Friendly and very cheerful and helpful. Each time we go for our breakfast it is so nice to see a cheerful face to greet us. I will surly return back to this hotel.

relly nice place,food was very supperb,only i cant relax at swimming pool coz it really noisy...overall its really exellent place to stay..
