Upscale and in meticulous condition. In Gaia region but loved the extra steps walking across the bridge to Porto. Put the view from Gaia side of Porto is picture perfect. Breakfast was excellent.

I don’t enjoy leaving unflattering reviews, but our experience was so different than what I had expected (based on others’ reviews and the price point) that I’m sharing here.

Issues:
(1) By booking on Expedia, we were not only given the worst room (limited view, next to elevators, etc.) but were scolded by the reception staff for not booking directly with Marriott. We were also rudely dismissed when having inquired about a room change.
(2) The bathrooms are not actually a separate (bath)room and are just a separate space in the bedroom. If you are traveling with someone, be prepared for no privacy regarding lights, sound, etc.
(3) Dinner in the restaurant was just okay and way over-priced for what it was (though the service was pleasant).
(4) Multiple times a day, there are huge tourist buses that drop off and pick up right outside the hotel, which means every time you come and go, you need to wade through dozens of tourists standing around the entrance.
(5) Most of the attractions (churches, restaurants, cafes, shopping, tours, etc.) are on the other (city) side of the river, which means there’s a 25-35 minute walk each way, and even if you’re fit and healthy, there really is only one way across the river, so it’s the same trinket stands and tourist traps you pass by each time (and not a good use of time). Moreover, a taxi or Uber also takes 20+ minutes due to the traffic (congested by the tour buses and the limited number of bridges in/out of the city).

Lovely property in Gaia, the quieter side of the river in Porto. Rooms are spacious and clean. Beautiful heated pool and deck overlooking the river. Great breakfast buffet. Close to many restaurants and port producers for those that wish to tour them.

Heaven on earth

This is in the top 5 best hotels I’ve ever visited! The facility is simply gorgeous. Due to the power outage in Portugal we had a lot of interaction with the staff, and they were incredibly supportive, kind, and friendly during the whole ordeal. Breakfast was amazing. I was sad to leave!

We had the most incredible stay at this hotel and got engaged here, making it even more special. What a phenomenal find, we were booked at the Se Catedral Tapestry hotel which was a disaster so took to Expedia to find another property.

Luckily the Fonte De Gaia had availability and we headed on over.

We were welcomed by Liliana & Patricia who are by far two of the best hotel team members we have encountered in all our years, they are a huge asset to the hotel, all team members were five star but these two ladies were 6 star and could not do enough to help us, thank you Liliana & Patricia

We enjoyed the exceptional customer service at the Forte de Gaia. All the staff were amazing! We had booked a second-class room without a bathtub or historic view, and on our arrival we found this room overlooked the decommissioned swimming pool area that was being renovated by busy builders. Someone had left a fruit basket in the room, but we were unsure if this was an 'extra' so we decided not to touch it. The hotel is close to riverboat cruise liners but quite a long way from most attractions, athough we enjoyed the extra walking. The lifts took some working out! Some didn't go to where you wanted them to but they were always rekiable! The view from the restuarant at breakfast time is spoiled by inoperative patio heaters and closed-up parasols. Otherwise, a pleasant stay at a relaxed hotel.

I was on the second floor right in front of a bus stop and friends were given rooms on floors 4 and 6 with views of The city. Also my room had bugs in the bathroom was missing a a hot water kettle which the other rooms had. Very poor service

There is nothing negative to say about this hotel. The level of customer service from all members of staff is exemplary. The interior design throughout the hotel is amazing and the locality is ideal as it enables you to escape the crowds and noise of central Porto without missing the scenery. The dining experience in the Dona Maria restaurant should also not be missed as the views alone along with the food, wine and service are excellent (both breakfasts and dinner).

The next day my wife was ill and although that wasn't ideal for our vacation this was a great place to be. The Lodge was great; i only stayed there one night because i was attending a conference at the hilton (which is about 200 ft away) and couldn't get a room there the first night, but after staying at the lodge the first night i wish i had just booked there the entire time. they offer you a welcome drink while your bags are brought up. the room was spacious and very nice. i had a great view of the river/city. unfortunately there were big wildfires during my stay so (i assume this is why) the pool area was not open

The best! Ten stars!! This was our second time staying at the Lodge and was just as great as the first. The people are so wonderful, accommodating and helpful and really exemplify consummate customer service. The rooms are nice, the bar well-stocked and the breakfasts are incredible, not to mention the perfect location with walking distance to all of the port houses and other attractions in Porto. We even had problems with last minute travel plans and they worked to find an alternate the night before we left. We cannot thank them enough for their help, nor recommend them more highly when you are in Porto. We will return!

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the service was amazing. The room was always spotless, bed was like sleeping in a cloud lol. The breakfast had a huge amount of options and was always well stocked. The waiters /waitresses were always attentive and we were treated like royalty. To be fair every member of staff treated us like royalty and couldn’t do enough for us.

Would highly recommend the hotel for comfort, cleanliness and service. Would stay again without hesitation.

We stayed 10 nights at \"The Lodge\". We could not have faulted the hotel in any respect. The staff are a true highlight showing the hotel's worthiness of being a 5* property. Magarida on reception helped us continuously throughout our stay and was always warm, friendly and welcoming to us in every interaction. At check in, the room was not available (we landed very early in the morning and did not expect to get checked in). Magarida very kindly telephoned us as soon as the room was available which was very thoughtful and convenient. Other staff of note was the entire team at breakfast, led by the very friendly and accommodating Ava and Henrique. Both of these staff members welcomed us with a smile each morning. They were also kind enough to give us recommendations of where to go and what to do whilst on holiday - Ava even wrote down a couple of local desserts that we had to try! There were so many pleasant waiting staff, unfortunately we didn't catch all their names. It was so lovely to wake up in the morning and go to a breakfast room that had such a lovely atmosphere. The hotel is very clean and the housekeeping staff are clearly very professional and look after the aesthetic of the hotel. Their nightly turn down service was appreciated, and we very much enjoyed our nightly chocolate or face cleansing towel. In terms of our VIP access status, we appreciated being allowed to check in early, a welcome letter from the manager and free bottle of wine and treats! Muito obrigado!!

Lovely hotel for a couples or adult trip. Very walkable to all the main sight.

Very trendy interior, nice pool and lovely rooms. Wonderful friendly staff who were always happy to help and make recommendations.

Minor room for improvement in terms of cleaning of the room and limited variety for breakfast (when compared to other hotels of the same rating). Our bathroom was not always as thoroughly cleaned as expected but they were happy to rectify.

We would recommend the hotel to others and would come back.
