The hosts communication was great- she was incredibly helpful in guiding us in Croatia and sharing the bus schedules. We booked this as a budget stay and definitely wish we stayed closer to the water / closer to more dining / beach options. Re-using towels/beach towels for 4 days started to get bothersome. The property was clean and the host was wonderful

Exceptional apartments connected to a lovely farmhouse with amazing views of Dubrovnik and a lovely pool. Marija is the most warm and welcoming host I have ever met. We felt like we were visiting family. She is so knowledgeable about Dubrovnik and gave us great tips on how to make the most of our 2 day stay there. She lent us snorkelling equipment as well. Her son provided airport transfer to us at a great price. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else if we return to Dubrovnik. Marija is a gem of a person and is completely invested in ensuring all her guests have a wonderful time. We will always have lovely memories of this visit. Thank you so much from our whole family :).

Have to say a big thank you to Marija and Eli, they are both the nicest people you could ever meet! They are always available if needed and they really made us feel at home. We booked our day trips through Marija and they were very well priced and reliable, so definitely recommend booking any excursions when you arrive with Marija. Really can’t thank both of them enough they really made our stay, there is no intrusion they are only there when needed. Beautiful apartments and pool area, very comfortable and relaxing stay here. Bed was very comfortable and everything you need is available, washing machine located on the premises which is handy when you come back from the beach and there is also ironing facilities if needed. Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby, a 24 hr bakery is only a 2 minute walk away, and a large tommy supermarket is only a 10 min walk. Sunset beach and the promenade which is full of nice and affordable restaurants is around a 10-15 minute walk(casually walking) the old town is bit of a walk it took us about 40 mins casually walking and around 30 mins brisk so probably worthwhile getting the bus if needed, we always walked as the scenery is spectacular along the route.

What made California apartments unique was the hospitality received by Marija and Ely. We are well travelled and have stayed in many accommodations, but Marija’s willingness to ensure our stay was more than just comfortable was very welcome. Marija’s and Ely’s hospitality was second to none, and we would highly recommend California apartments for all travellers. Apartment was clean, neat with all required facilities. Pool was extremely welcome at the end of a very hot day walking. We enjoyed walking into the old city from here, approx 25 mins, equally through the local nature reserve and to the coast 29 minutes the other direction so the apartment is well located for travellers. Great 24 hour bakery up the road and lovely Italian restaurant over the toad, serving amazing home made pasta.

It’s close to local amenities and within walking distance to the Old Town, Sunset beach and Gruz port. But the main draw of this property is the owner (Marija and Ely), Marija has patiently explained to you all the top attractions in the area, handy tips on arrival. She is such an excellent host and I will definitely go and stay there again when I go back to Dubrovnik. Ely can provide you with airport shuttle service for such reasonable price, you don’t need to bother looking for ground transport elsewhere, just let Marija knows prior to your arrival.

The California Apartments offers a perfect base for exploring Dubrovnik. It is about 30 minutes walking to the old town or a quick bus ride, as well as having plenty of restaurants, bakeries and supermarkets nearby. The nearest beach isn’t far to walk either. The apartment we stayed in was on the top floor, a split level apartment with bed upstairs and kitchen / living downstairs. It was perfectly presented, and we were met with a bottle of wine and home made sweets from Maria. Maria gave us plenty of tips on the local area, including the food festival which we caught the last day of during our stay. Absolutely brilliant. Thoroughly recommended.

Perfect Apartment with amazing hosts!

This was our first time in Croatia and our stay certainly exceeded our expectations!
Maria and Ilais were amazing hosts! :) Maria took the time to kindly contact us prior to our arrival and offered us advice and assistance prior and continually during our stay at the Apartment.
She was there to welcome us along with Ilais and made us feel very comfortable. There were lots of special touches added to the apartment on our arrival, and the apartment was modern yet homely and immaculate! No complaints at all.
We felt very safe during our stay, the apartment was in a great location (bus stop right outside to old town and very short ride) in a lovely area super close to the old town. Great as a base to get to other parts such as a nearby promenade (walking distance), the main bus station for day trips.
The apartment was perfect, but what made it special was the hosts! We could really tell that a lot of effort has gone in to making it perfect for guests and the hosts really care about that. We would definitely come back to stay at California Apartments again and highly recommend it.

We had a newly done up room which was lovely.
Was really pleased with the area too, it’s an easy walk to a really great beach area.
Buses are rather over priced to get to the old town so we walked the few times we went but it’s a good 25mins to do so.

Facntastic well equipped apartment

I have just returned home from California Apartments and what a joy it way to stay there. I booked the apartment for me and 3 friends and we were allocated an amazing, newly renovated 2 bedroom apartment. It was really spacious and the specification was very high. Modern but comfortable. The kitchen was equipped fantastically which meant that we decided to cook many times. Although on a main road, this was no problem at all. We had a large balcony overlooking the road and sat happily there watching the world go by. There is a fantastic pool with lovely sun beds and cushions. Pool towels were also provided. There is a supermarket across the road and bus stops nearby allowing easy access to the Old Town or to the nearby beach at Sunset Bay, although we could reach the beach on foot in about 10 mins. At Sunset Beach there are loads of excellent restaurants and bars and it is a great place to watch the sun set. Notwithstanding the above, the real treasure of the place is the amazing landlady Marija. She organised transfers from the airport for us and on arrival spent about an hour giving us so much great advice about what to do in the city. Nothing was too much trouble (despite even her daughter being married the weekend that we were staying!!). She organised trips for us and kept in touch to make sure that we were OK and to see if we needed anything. She loves her job and is so proud of her apartments. We will definitely return!

We stayed 4 nights here, the whole stay was fantastic. Marija organised the airport pickup and was waiting for us at the apartment. No 8 is a brand new 2br/2 bathroom apartment with 3 balconies and a great view over the harbour. King size super comfy bed and absolutely everything you would need. Location is perfect, an easy bus ride to the old town and walking distance to sunset beach which was a real highlight for us. Thanks to Marija who is a gem and will help you with anything you need to organise.

The apartment was beautiful and immaculate and the location was great. As amazing as the apartment was, the hosts were even more exceptional. Marija and Ely are very friendly, caring, and helpful and treat you like family. Just what we needed

Marija was excellent at communicating with us before our trip and provided us with very useful information regarding the area when we arrived. She also arranged our transfers to and from the airport which made things simple.

The location of the apartment was just what we needed. A 10 minute bus ride from the old town and a 10 minute walk down to the promenade of restaurants and bars in lapad. The apartments are on a busy road so traffic noise when on the balcony is loud but not to be heard when inside with the door shut or when relaxing by the pool. My 4 year old daughter couldn’t face the uphill walk back up but we just timed our return with the no. 4 bus from outside tourist information which made our life easier. There is a small grocery store a 5 minute walk away and you can easily walk down to the harbour in 10 mins but be warned the walk back up is pretty steep.

The accommodation was fabulous. The bed was extremely comfortable. We were looking for a 2x bedroom apartment but with the additional balcony we were able to put our daughter to sleep on the sofa bed and then relax on the bedroom balcony. Marija made sure our bedding and towels were changed regularly and bins emptied without being intrusive.

The luxury of the pool made it for us, it was often very quiet so felt like it was our own and just what we needed after a hot busy day.

We would highly recommend this accommodation. Thank you to Marija for a wonderful stay.

Overpriced, poor location, and never 4 star!

The accommodation was clean and functional but not worth the £120 a night fee. Fortunately we didn't pay the extra £50 a night for a balcony as the view and noise from the main road below wouldn't have made it worthwhile! It's too far a walk in to Dubrovnik old town on the side of a busy main road in a rough part of town, and taxis are very expensive. The traffic is relentless making relaxing round the pool very difficult, and the pool by the way was full of dead bugs suggesting it hadn't been cleaned in a while. It wasn't the worst accommodation I've stayed in but is well overpriced due it it's location and certainly isn't of 4 star standard. Be wary of the photos shown as they don't give a true reflection of the place, I was expecting a level of luxury given the cost but it wasnt to be. The only servicing of the room came on the last day where clean towels were dumped on the bed , dirty ones weren't taken away, beds weren't made etc. Lazy, overpriced, and miles away from where you want to be. Wont be staying here again.

Maria was a wonderful host, she arranged an airport pickup then explained all of the must see things in our short time in Dubrovnik and couldn't have been more helpful. One of the unexpected bonuses was the lovely area of Lapad, just around the corner from Dubrovnik but away from the hustle and bustle.The cave bar on the waters edge is spectacular.

This was our first trip to Dubrovnik and we were not disappointed! Even before we set off the service that Marija and Ely was outstanding, we had emails to book a taxi and arrange to be met for check in. We arrived at California apartments to a warm welcome and helpful insight into the area, the best trips and restaurants. Even when i realised i'd forgotten my adapter, Marija was around in minutes with one to borrow. The apartment was lovely, clean and comfortable. Having a lovely pool and terracw with sunloungers was definately the icing on the cake. Lots of personal touches made the apartment, from toilettries and a hairdryer to the rose from the garden and home made sweets. The apartment is really well located, with access to both lapad beach and the old town within walking distance. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Wonderful Apartment for a base for your holiday

Have just had the most wonderful week at California Apartments. They are in an ideal position, 20 min walk from old town, 10 min walkfrom a range of restaurants and 10 min walk from beach. Majina who owns the property is the most amazing host, weather you're looking for boat trips or good restaurants, she should be your first port of call. My wife and I cannot speak highly enough of her and her lovely family. Majina thank you so much for a wonderful week, we will definitely be back!

We had an amazing time with Maria and wished it had been longer. But hope to return soon. Apartment was located 2-3kms out from the old city but on the bus route so easy access and a lovely walk ..The apartment was well appointed and very clean. The pool area was so relaxing.
Maria is a font on local knowledge and a wonderful tour guide..The cave bar in Lapad Bay was gorgeous.
I must tell you that she treats everyone like her extended family and goes above and beyond to help you in any way. She was able to locate my missing luggage that was held up in Prague. My worst nightmare as we were leaving Dubrovnik to go to Split for a Interferry business conference. I'm still dreaming of her arancini treats. :)

Very Nice and Friendly Owners

It was a pleasant stay for our family - two adults and one child. We got picked up at the airport (service requested in advance) and reached the apartment in about half-an-hour. The owners were very helpful and friendly. They shared a lot of useful information about the place.

The apartment was spacious and nicely maintained. We got two sofabeds but used only one. Kitchen was clean and tidy. The location is central and close to public transport. We didn’t use the swimming pool due to relatively cold weather.

The owners let us use the apartment until 12pm on the day of check out which was very accommodating.

We requested to be dropped off to the airport (paid service) which was very handy.

It was a pleasant stay, thanks!

Wow, what a wonderful week we spent at the California Apartments! Marikje and Ely were amazing hosts, Marikje made us feel so welcome. It was a home from home. Marikje greeted us with so much information and recommendations for restaurants, bars, bus timetables and tourist attractions, we couldn't have asked for more.
The apartment was superb! All the essentials were there for us already, we didn't buy any washing up liquid, toilet rolls etc...everything was provided including pool towels.
Ben linen was changed during our week long stay and towels were changed twice too.
There was a hairdryer, iron and ironing board available.
The apartment was huge for the two of us, two balconies, tasteful decorated and furnished. We loved it.
Marikje made our stay complete, she is an amazing host and couldn't do enough for us. I wanted to take her home with me as a new mum!!
Thank you Marikje, we hope to be back to visit again someday and will most certainly stay with you again. It was wonderful to meet you x

Amazing hostess in Dubrovnik

Marija,who runs the California Apartments, is an amazing hostess. She arranged our airport transfer, welcomed us with a bottle of wine, guided us on where and when to go and left us a memento of our trip to Dubrovnik. The apartment could not be faulted for facilities and supplies that you normally have to buy when self catering. Dubrovnik is simply stunning, whether in the old town or the islands.

Couldn't ask for more

Met at hotel by Marija holding an umbrella to protect us as it was pouring with rain. I had phoned ahead. Showed us to our room which was lovely. A bottle of wine and some tasty treats had been left for us along with towels for the pool. Suggestions for meals and places to go where offered and we felt that nothing would be too much to ask for. Would highly recommend and definetly go back again.

I had contacted the owner prior to arriving in Dubrovnik for public transport ideas and they were perfect.

So warm and welcoming- a delight!

I had the most delightful stay here back in June. I stayed for four nights, and even before I arrived and until I left, I felt so taken care of by Marija and her husband. I felt so safe, so welcomed and valued during my stay. I came alone for a friend's wedding, and Marija made sure I had everything I needed, helped me out whenever I required it, and made it feel like a 'home from home'. I could not have asked for more, it was like staying with family. I could not recommend the California Apartments more highly to anyone coming to Dubrovnik alone, as a couple, or as a family.
Her husband collected me safely from the airport, as well as returned (35 euro each way). He was so warm and welcoming, and so knowledgable, and I was eager to learn more of the history of this beautiful place after my first journey.
The rooms are so clean and spacious, and the pool area is so lovely and relaxing!
It is such a convenient and safe location, and I am really looking forward to my next visit here, whenever I get the opportunity. Three months later, I am still telling people about my experience here- thank you, Marija! :)

Nice hotel - but very pricy

We enjoyed staying in this hotel. However, the owner of this hotel is a bit of mad, in a good way. She is very friendly - a bit overly friendly. She messaged me to arrange everything which was a nice touch. However, the location of the hotel isn't great as it is very far away from the old town. In addition, they demanded us to pay cash, which is very strange.

However, the facilities are pleasing and rooms are comfortable and clean.

Home away from home.

From the moment we arrived and during our 10 day stay, we couldn't have been made to feel any more welcome. Marija and Ely had us picked up at the airport which is approximately a 25 minute drive from the apartment. We liked the location because everything you need is within walking distance: supermarkets, banks, restaurants, beaches, bakeries and the old town (30 minute walk). The apartment was extremely clean and comfortable; no need to buy washing up liquid, soap, supplies or toilet paper. All provided. We especially enjoyed the swimming pool, very private and relaxing. The old town is magnificent; walking around the walls is a must and there is a cable car to take you even higher should you wish. We caught the bus to Cavtat which is a lovely village by the sea. In all, a lovely holiday made even better by the generosity of Marija and Ely who couldn't do enough for us. Thank you and I'm missing our chats already.

Perfect Apartment for Dubrovnik

The apartment was perfectly located with local restaurants and amenities, and very close to Dubrovnik old town and all major attractions.

Apartment room was lovely and clean with lots of home comforts to make the stay very pleasant. Rooms, grounds and pool are immaculate. This truly is a perfect place to stay too enjoy your trip.

To top off this apartment, the owner and hostess Marija was truly wonderful to us, made us feel so welcome, gave fantastic recommendations and was always around to chat or get advice.

This was the best apartment we gave ever stayed at and worth every single penny. We now have friends and family wishing to book up for next year.

Easy access to all sites in Dubrovnik

The proprietors were great, from providing local history, what to do and when, where to eat, what to see first to be away from the crowds, best coffee house, best restaurants, best walks, and they provide a little welcome surprise.

This is a great place for hanging out away from the crowds, have a swim, and in general kick back from the crowded streets.

After spending hours of searching for accommodation in Dubrovnik - we went for California Apartments, what a fantastic choice!! An easy bus ride from the centre and within walking distance of the promenade and cave bar, and the rooms offering amazing views of the countryside.
Marija and Ely were fantastic hosts - easily the best hotel hosts I've ever experienced and I don't believe I'll ever find any better. Ely picked us up from the airport, and then on arrival Marija spent a good 30 minutes with us showing us where to find the various attractions of Dubrovnik. Marija was also on hand to answer any questions we had via WhatsApp. Clearly they both enjoy welcoming guests to their apartments (adjacent to their own home). They also gave us a bottle of wine which was a nice touch.
We were in a 1-bedroom apartment on the lower floor, the apartment was absolutely immaculate, lovely decor and equipped with anything you could possibly need!
I would recommend California Apartments to anyone!

Home away from home in Dubrovnik!

We were so excited to go to Dubrovnik and our stay at California Apartments made it even better. Marija is the perfect host helping us plan our short trip - nothing was too much trouble. The apartment was very clean, light and airy and in a perfect location close to supermarkets and local restaurants and a 10-min bus trip to the old town.

Maria was a fantastic host

We had such a great time in Dubrovnik and absolutely loved our time in California apartments. Maria was really fantastic, she gave us some great recommendations to eat and see whilst we were in Dubrovnik and really went out of her way to make sure our time there was well spent. On our last day, our flight was late in the evening but Maria let us lounge around the pool and even gave us spare towels - it's the little things that go a long way sometimes and I'd highly recommend this hotel. It's also in a great location, you can get a bus to the old town (or walk within half an hour) and there's some great places to eat and see around lapad as well!

I wouldn't have stayed anywhere else

Absolutely loved our stay here. The apartment was well located to be a 5 min bus ride from old town, but walking distance from local bars, shops, restaurants and beach clubs.

The pool is wonderful with its 13th century wall as a backdrop on one side and view of hills in the distance.

I would recommend dining at Panorama as, despite what the reviews say, it's not too expensive for the stunning view and great food. Try and go for a sundowner at the Cave Bar (15 min walk) and check out the restaurant 'Belvedere', across the road from the apartments, for it's fresh seafood. Although I would search local restaurants on trip advisor beforehand as we had a couple of very poor meals on the walk down towards the Cave Bar. There are plenty of excellent places so you needn't settle for a bad dining experience.

Finally, Marija and her husband were wonderful. Although these were apartments, we definitely still felt like we were being hosted in a boutique b&b. I don't often return to places, but I would come back here in a heartbeat as I have slightly fallen in love with Croatia and staying at California Apartments certainly played a large part in that love affair!

Great stay!

Marija was a fantastic host! She was very easy to communicate with both before and during the trip. She arranged for us to be collected from the airport and gave fantastic advise on where to eat/visit during our stay. She helped us arrange a day trip to Montenegro - unfortunately the driver drove past. She got straight onto the phone and got us a free trip to Elephati Islands instead - which worked out well because we heard there was a lot of hold up at the borders!

Apartment was perfect. Had all the amenities one would need - can't complain. Nice little outdoor patio to sit in the setting sun after a long day out! Supermarket and bakery around the corner. Bus stop pretty much outside. Max 20min walk to old town which I would highly recommend - really nice walk.

No complaints. Once again - would recommend and would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful Stay!

We stayed at the California Apartments for 3 nights in May 2017.

The apartment was immaculately clean, and we had such a lovely welcome from the Owner, Marija.

The apartment had everything that we needed, and Marija was on hand for anything we needed.

The pool area is lovely and secluded.

The apartments are a pleasant 10-15 mins walk to the beach/Lapad strip of restaurants.

There are a couple of restaurants withing 30 metres of the apartment, and also a supermarket and bakery.

The bus stop is a couple of mins walk, and take you straight to the Old Town.

I wouldn't hesitate recommending these apartments, and look forward to visiting them again.

The apartment is very well equiped. Best we have stayed at. It is well located near a supermarket (100m), opposite restaurants and about 100 m from a bus stop. The journey to Old Town is less than 10 minutes.

Felt so welcome

This is a family run apartment. Our stay was amazing. The owner makes you feel so welcome. She gives you info on places to go and where to eat. She gave us clementines from her own backyard and it was just a homey stay. Would definitely go back. Shes an amazing person. The room was clean and stocked with everything even kitchen supplies. It was like a studio apartment with a pool view. A plus indeed

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at California Apartments. Marija was so friendly and helpful and recommend some great places to go and places to eat. The room is in a great location along a main bus route into the Old Town and I had everything I needed. There are 2 bakeries, a coffee shop, supermarket and restaurant on the doorstep.

The California Apartments was the perfect choice for our trip to Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is an amazing city, and our choice of accommodation made our holiday extra special, especially as the owners Marija and Ely were so welcoming and provided lots of recommendations for where to go and where to eat. We were really well looked after, and Marija went out of her way to make sure we had a nice stay. The apartments are very reasonably priced, very clean and well located for the Old Town, Lapad and Babin Kuk. The new pool area also provides a peaceful and relaxing escape from all the sightseeing. We also tried sea kayaking at sunset, which is a must try. All in all,I couldn't recommend The California Apartments enough for a stay in Dubrovnik.

Nice apartments made great by the owner

The apartments are in a good location fairly equidistant from Lapad and the old town, the area is quiet at night so you won't be woken by tourists, and the apartments themselves are well-maintained with a lovely little pool outside.
The highlight, however, is the owner, Marija, who is incredibly accommodating and amiable and ensures you get the most of your time in Dubrovnik. Recommended!

Marija the owner of California Apartments was so kind and welcoming. The apartment was lovely and there is now a wonderful pool. Marija brought us to and from the airport and advised us on what to see and where to go around Dubrovik. We were welcomed with a home made traditional treat Marija had made, along with a bottle of wine. Mid week Marija gave us some traditional liqueur which was lovely. Croatia is so beautiful and the people are so friendly. There is a great restaurant the Belvedere across the street from the apartment where we enjoyed delicious meals. Bus number 4 travels to and from old town every 15 minutes, the stop is just down the street. Also suggest getting the number 10 bus from the station to Cavtat and taking the coastal walk. I would highly recommend Dubrovnik and California apartments as a holiday destination.

Great hotel and great owners

The hotel is near the beach. You can take the bus to go to the city center or you can walk. We had an excellent experience. The rooms are clean and modern, but the best experience is from the owners. Marija is so nice and welcoming. She and her husband accommodated us from picking us up at the airport and also bringing us to the bus station for a decent fee. She makes u feel at home. I highly recommend this place. We will be back:-)
