excellent location, only a 30 minute trek (downhill) towards St Peters Square. Trevi round the corner but far enough away for tourist traffic not to be an issue.
room, staff & breakfast buffet was excellent, i couldn't sing their praises high enough. Excellent shower!
Maybe a little out of the way for authentic Italian eateries, but the discovery is everything right? Thoroughly enjoyed the stay, will definitely be back

The room was absolutely spotless. The facilities were fantastic - we were in a beautiful room with views of the Borghese walls - perfect location and lovely street outside. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was a lovely buffet mix - breakfast cereals, fruit, cakes and fruit tart, sandwiches, bread rolls of various types, sliced bread for toast, butter, spreads and jams, sliced meats and cheeses as well as nuts, biscuits and bruschetta - really good coffee machine and hot chocolate - fabulous choice offered.

Staff was amazing and helpful, the hotel is nicely decorated and kept clean daily. We received a bottle of water every day in the room and fresh fruit as well as a bottle of wine on our arrival. The area is very nice and safe with a lot of restaurants to choose from and was able to walk to all major attractions, would definently stay here again.

We had a wonderful stay at The Shire. It is a small boutique hotel. When you first arrive it can be a bit confusing. They do not have a obvious front to the hotel. Just a small sign on the side of the door next to Harry's Restaurant. If you arrive after hours press the button to be let in. Take the lift to the 1st froor.

We had the large suite in the corner above Harry's. It was very comfortable. It could use a few more pieces of seating furniture in the bedroom and luggage stands, but that is minor. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was comparable to most European breakfasts.

I would definitely stay there again the next time I'm in Rome.

Small rooms, but modern and updated. I wish they had a luggage rack. That’s probably my only complaint - as you get older, you kinda don’t want to bend down on the floor to unpack . They also have a lift / elevator so that was helpful !!! it is very small so there will be climbing the steps to get the second floor, which is where all the rooms are located and the breakfast was a typical European continental. (Many of the old hotels do not have lifts .) I don’t think this hotel has been here very long as most Everything looked pretty new -very safe location as well. It’s actually a more expensive part of town and several of the tour guide and other locals commented as such. That’s not why I booked it, but I did book it based on other people’s recommendations regarding how safe it was and now I know why. La bruschetta is a very casual restaurant nearby on one of the side streets and it was very good. We ate there several times super casual and quite inexpensive.

The Shire is a great deal!

Amazing location and view of Borghese Gardens and Roman wall from our room. Lots of light and very spacious and clean room. Staff was helpful and breakfast was good. Excellent value for hotel in Rome. Will stay here again. Only hallenge was the lock on entry door at night. Our key card never worked.

I was unable to sleep as there was extremely loud noise from the bar and streets below. In addition, the room as too hot and the staff was unwilling to help us make the room cooler. The hangers in the closet could only be reached if guests are well over 6’ tall. There was no makeup or other mirror available for such. The room was tastefully-designed, spacious and essentials such as the bed and bath were good. The service and hospitality were not commensurate with the price.

Overall property was ok.
Room clean well maintained only a bit too small. Only one side of the bed had night stand no place to charge phone or put anything from another side of the bed. ?!
Stuff very friendly helpful but a little issue with front door opening at first. Ok after few attempts.
Breakfast served on cold side sandwiches with broiled eggs warm only. It could be more choices such as scrambled or egg whites.
Just a suggestions.

This small boutique hotel is hard to find, but it is worth the effort. The surrounding neighborhood is super charming. It is right across from the Borghese Area and close walking distance to Trevi and Spanish Steps. The staff was very helpful, they helped to book transport to our port and allowed us to store luggage while we we did some sightseeing before departure.

An affordable small hotel in a nice area of Rome, having a one night stay following a cruise vacation. The staff member was friendly and very helpful on our arrival and upgraded us to a balcony room foc which was a nice surprise. The room was nice with a comfortable bed and good air conditioning which was needed in 42c temperatures! My only tiny issue was the bathroom tiles could do with a grout refresh but other than that we enjoyed our stay at The Shire Hotel 😊

This is not an Hotel! It’s in an office building and when you arrive your on your own no help with luggage’s. The room needs to be refreshed a lot of marks on walls.
The worst is that my husband woke up with bed bugs bite on the morning of departure.
The breakfast is just ok and the breakfast room temperature was hot.
One employee was exceptional Madelana can’t thank her enough!!!! She was extremely helpful!!!!
I do not recommend this hotel.

All the staff from checking in to our room to departure were amazing, supper friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
The hotel was very clean. Our room was like a suit and we had an unexpected complimentary bottle of Prosecco on arrival ( nice touch) and the complimentarys kept coming with fresh fruit the next day. Would highly recommend a stay here.

Beautifully decorated small boutique hotel! In a great location to see Trevi fountain and Spanish steps! Breakfast was lovely and staff were happy to help. Only downside is we could hear the chatting at reception through the door, but it did quieten at night.

It was 100 degrees in the room. They only give you one key card which you have to insert into a panel
To turn on electricity. So when you leave all power turns off. I usually leave chargers plugged in when going out and was unable to do that. Also it turns off the AC and it never got cool. I would have suffocated if not for my travel fan.
The hotel is also hard to find as they only have a tiny sign that is easily missed. I had to ask a server at the restaurant next door where it was.

The Shire was in a fairly good position, where it was walkable to most areas, within about 40 minutes. The room was quiet at night and close to all restaurants. The room was small, but clean. Some upgrades, but still pretty basic. The staff was helpful and friendly.

The Shire hotel is within walking distance to so many attractions in Rome. We never had to use a taxi until we went to the airport. The desk staff are so very helpful with dinner ideas in the area for authentic Italian cuisine. Maria Louisa also arranged our transportation from the cruise terminal and to the airport. Excellent service!

We enjoyed our stay at the Shire Hotel. We informed them that our flight was going to arrive late so they were flexible and made sure that a member of the staff was present to wait for our arrival. The hotel is in a great location that is close to restaurants and within walking distance of the metro. Although it is very on top of a bar, our room was quiet. The complimentary breakfast is also convenient.

An ok choice but not next time

We stayed here for 4 nights and the room fan/AC worked ok the 1st 2 nights although they actually dont turn on the actual AC until later in the month just the blower fan works. By the 3rd night the fan blower would not even blow and all rooms were this way. It made it very stuff and warm in the rooms. Our TV also did not work. We told the staff and they contacted maintenance but they did not come to fix it.
To open the window it was too noisy at night to keep it open.

The hotel has just 9 rooms with no outside areas to sit once the breakfast hours are done. Breakfast was fine. Mostly continental type but with hard boiled eggs, cheeses and salami.

The staff though was very nice and helpful. There is only 1 person for the front desk and for the breakfast area meaning its the same person. But all the ladies on the shifts did a great job.

The hotel is up above a restaurant so the reception area is a floor up and the entrance to the hotel is a little hard to find at 1st but there is an elevator.

Area was easy for walking and near lots of stores and restaurants. To walk to the Coloseum its a 40 minute walk, Trevi Fountain, etc would take about 25 mins.
Taxis are easy to get.

It was a nice boutique hotel but I'd prefer to stsy elsewhere next time.

Great location- close to Villa Borghese. Quiet. The staff was helpful and friendly. The bathroom needs \"reconfiguring\". There are no shower walls nor a curtain so water goes everywhere when you shower, anything you place by the sink falls because the ledge is slanted. There was mold in the shower and the toilet seat was broken. There was a lamp on only one bedside. The breakfast was not very appealing but the dining room was decorated nicely. Overall the area was very nice but not impressed with the hotel.

I booked this hotel quite last minute but was swayed by the modern looking facilities. It’s a lovely boutique hotel with only 9 rooms so feels really personal and quiet. Although situated above a bar, we never heard any outside noise nor did we hear anything from other guests.
We stayed for 3 nights and found the staff were super approachable, kind and friendly. The location is great and close to lots of bars and restaurants, whilst still being walkable to main sites, but far enough to be away from big crowds. It’s not too far from a metro, which has great links to the airport.
Our room was impeccably cleaned daily and was nothing short of ideal! Breakfast had great choices and was a great start to a busy day including things such as pastries, cold meats and cereals.
We would definitely recommend this hotel and would return whenever in Rome!

Upon our arrival my friends and I were greeted with great hospitality thanks to the lovely receptionist who helped us out! The rooms are clean, with ample space and the shower is fabulous. The location is superb with just a 5 minute walk to the gardens. If you’re thinking of staying here, look no further, you’ll encounter great service and clean and modern facilities.

The service was ok. The state of the the room was not great, it had a very bad smell and needed a good clean. The walls were all marked, the carpet was filthy as was the chair. The bathroom had a very bad smell, the shower was mouldy, the towels were like rags and needed to be thrown out and just generally needed a good clean. Overall it was just disappointing and I would not recommend to stay here.

Absolute worst experience I have ever had with a hotel. When I arrived late at night, there was a leak in the AC and it was dripping on the floor. Since it was late, nobody could come to fix it until the next day. Between the smell and the noise, I could not sleep. I had to move down the street and pay for another hotel, which I informed the Shire about. I stayed at the Shire the second night. I was nothing but nice and understanding, and I did not make a fuss. However, I have reached out 3 times regarding a refund for the first night, or any sort of compensation, and I have not heard back. I have tried through Expedia, and they informed me the Shire refuses to give me a refund. Extremely frustrating and rude staff. I would like a response at the absolute minimum. No apology or anything. Avoid at all costs.

Just wish that the sink could drain down the water faster and the bathroom offered more space to put your belongings.
The hotel has the access to the elevator so it’s convenient to take your heavy luggages to the hotel. AC works great both in the lobby and in the room for the hot summer in Rome.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The staff were amazing and so helpful. The room was large and clean. The area was perfect and you could walk to many different key sites. They provided some recommendations for dining within walking distance and which were amazing! The complimentary breakfast was so nice. We had a small issue with our bill which they were able to fix immediately. The staff offered to arrange transportation for us from the port and to the airport at a very reasonable price. The hotel is above a well known restaurant and bar, it can be a little noisy later in the evening with the windows open, but with closed windows it is soundproof and very quiet. Would recommend to anyone and stay there again if we return to Rome.

It was very disappointing to arrive and not actually find a boutique hotel of what was expected. It is like an apartment building, you won't even find any hotel entrance. Reception is just a desk. The room was very small. And the breakfast not interested.

A little tough to find

My wife and I had a great stay here and would definitely come back. As other reviews have stated, the place is a little tricky to find so be sure to use the big wooden door next to Harry’s Bar; After that, climb the stairs. In Italy, the first floor is considered Zero and the Second Floor Starts Level One. The Hotel is located up the stairs (Italian Level One). Other than that, Great Place! We look forward to going back!

Pros- quiet, easy walk to the sites, daily housekeeping,large shower with hot water. Breakfast with coffee and small bites.

Cons- no sign to identify the place outside. Hard to find initially. Bed hard as a rock. Front desk was touch and go.

Overall it was a great stay. We were not in the room all that much so it was a place to sleep and shower whilst visiting all the sites.
