If you are unlucky enough to be placed in the rear boutique hotel they claim to be a 4 star hotel I am sorry in advance. The room we were provided reeked of dead fish and mold. Tried to air out some of that smell and it really just brought in more dead fish smells from the outside. This is not a 4 star hotel. Clogged sink from day one is also unacceptable. No bell man to help with bags is also unacceptable when we had to walk such a long way. Secondly, we were not provoded an alternative since they were fully booked. The only option we were given was to wait for the next day. So we said no and left. Even though this was a non refundable stay, Expedia still refunded us due to the hotel's neglect. I also advised them to change their rating because I have never seen a boutique hotel be considered 4 stars. A swimming pool is not an automatic 4 star qualifier. Anyhow, I urge everyone to stay away from this hotel even though the location is great.

I loved the large bedroom with 1 king bed and 2 bunk beds, it was perfect for us (2 adults and 1 child). On top of that we had access to a semi private pool (accessible to only four bedroom) which was great to relax sometimes. I also loved that they provided towels you could bring to the beach as well, it's a game changer for me, had I known in advance it would have saved me some space in the suitcase.
The main swimming pool is simple but great with kids as they have a small kids area with a water slide that my son (5yo) loved.
Breakfast was doing the job overall but nothing special, just a typical buffet. It was a little crowded (high season), pastries were not good at all but the Thai dish (noddle, fried rice...) and waffles were great.
now for the location: it is very near Karon beach, like a 2 minutes walk. And there are also plenty of options to eat nearby without the need to get a taxi or tuktuk.

Pros: It's convenient and the staff is generally very friendly and helpful. They also have what you would expect from a hotel near the beach - beach towels, mesh bag and slippers. They also provide a crib upon request.

Cons: The bathtub is in the corridor and doesn't have a shower head. As such, the water cools down very fast and the sand or dirt is very hard to drain off. We had asked for additional beach towels and bath towels (because there were 3 of us) and had to do so every day as the staff just didn't take note of it when clearing our room. They also will not rinse/change the coffee cups unless you place them in the sink. There's very little counter space in the toilet to put your toothbrushes and toothpaste (oh, please remember to bring your own or buy one as they don't provide). They could've added some shelves next to the sink since there wasn't enough space for counter top.

- Blackout curtains were good.

Cons:

- Although there has seemingly been a recent makeover you can tell that the facilities are run down, particularly noticeable on staircases.

- The whole corridor we were staying in smelled damp and foisty. This extended into our room.

- Linen and towels were consistently stained despite changes.

- Housekeeping didn’t top up water/teabags several times. They also removed toilet paper from the bathroom once, leaving us with none.

If you're on a budget this place is ok. It's a bit dated, my room smelled really bad like mould. It was relatively clean. Internet wasn't the best. Pillows were pretty good. Air Con with remote was good. Personally I would rather stay at a more cleaner and modern place and won't stay here again.

We were disappointed in our choice to stay here. There are two long pools at this hotel, which we were excited to use. The pools themselves were not kept clean. There was a a garbage bag floating in it all day the last day we were there and it needed daily cleaning of leaves and such. The pool deck tile was filthy. I never saw anyone washing it off. Old bandaids, spills and dirt stuck to it.
The stair well was only cleaned once when we were there for 6 days. A huge hair ball sat on the steps until the last day it was finally gone. Spills and dirt on them as well.
The room linens were clean, but furniture and wood door and trim definitely tired. The floors were not swept at cleaning so sand and grit on them. Mold in the grout in the shower. I asked maid to bleach it, but it never happened. My sons room had centipedes and earwigs. The room cleaning was hit and miss.
You can hear everything said in people’s rooms as you walk by. Very flimsy doors.
I liked the big sliding door that led right out to the pool from our room.
The breakfast was a big variety, but not to my liking. I asked the egg cook if I could have two eggs over medium and she grudgingly cooked them. There was a plate of sunny side up ones she kept trying to get me to take. The rest of the restaurant staff were friendly though.
The front desk staff was polite but not memorable. Nothing out of their way.
There is only one elevator in main building.

We had a pool access room. I would highly recommend getting a pool access room (in fact that is the only room I would hire).

Everything was lovely and clean and modern. Pool was beautiful. Position of hotel was not beachfront but across the road. Perfect. In my view it was in the best position on Karon Beach! It was also close to lots of restaurants and shops (with a number of 7/11s very close by)

The buffet breakfast was big and lovely. My only complaint would be that the food was often a bit cold. If the food was a bit hotter it would be excellent.

I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again if holidaying back at Karon. The value of this hotel was unbeatable.

Pros: location was good. Surrounded with many shops. And it's walking distance to karon beach. Big clean room. Neat and tidy. WiFi is strong. But it will sometimes logged off by itself. Love the concept of the hotel.. Very artsy fartsy!

Cons: The bed feels like twin bed combined into one. Pillow too soft for me. it's noisy with loud bands nearby the hotel during night time. You can hear it especially if your room is near the roadside. Room door is a little too thin. Can hear noises outside your door. It's sad that my room doesn't have view. It's facing another rooms. Balcony in my room is not wide as compared to the one opposite. It has table and chairs and clothes rack at their balcony. Aircon sometimes inconsistent. The downside is the hotel is a smoke free property. They have designated smoking area near the lobby.

Overall its a good stay! I feel safe around the area. Probably would come back to stay. Because its so convenient.

We loved our stay here. It is a 3 or4 minute walk from the beach. For some reason I thought it was right on the beach so I was surprised, but I probably just did not read the reviews (or read so many I forgot!!). Anyway, it was super easy to get there whenever we wanted so it wasn't an issue. (By the way, treat yourself to a chair and an umbrella at the beach. Only 100 bhat/day - or about $3 US. Totally worth it.) Check in was fantastic. The guys were super nice and friendly and escorted us up to our rooms. Room temperature was easily adjusted. The beds were firm, but very comfy. We ate a great breakfast everyday and included Western and Thai selections. Our rooms (adjoining for a family of 5) were very large and we had a balcony overlooking the pool. The pool area could be better. It is not lit at night so slightly dangerous as the steps down into the pool are quite large. It is nice to come back to that late evening swim after sunset. My only complaint was that our first morning there, we put the sign on to please make up the room now. When we got back after lunch for a break, it wasn't done. When the housekeeper did come to do it, we asked for 5 minutes so we could get our stuff together and get out. She obviously wasn't happy with us, but she was the only staff member who was ever less than friendly. I would totally stay here again. Loved it.

The two good things about this hotel are: location to the beach (literally 2 minutes walk) AND location to shops, food, etc. There also was free drinks on the first to nights, but none on the third. The third night my room was not also cleaned. Other than that I WOULDN'T stay here again. We didn't get a pool room (bad choice) so we were in back by the air conditioner or something that made NOISE all night long. The bathroom was nice, however the TUB was dirty, so it was not used. The pool was beautiful as well and my son enjoyed the kids slide and pool as well as the small park area.
Customer Service is not great, as I asked for a late checkout because I was doing an all day tour and I was told my room was booked and the hotel was full. I then proceeded to book another day through expedia.com and was told if I did so I'd have to be moved to another room. So i spent all night packing despite having to be ready at 6 am for the tour. Got back around 330p and was put in THE SAME room to take a shower. Several other customers also had issues (no wifi, etc.) and I hope they too write a review. I didn't use WIFI because i brought a THAI SIM. Anyways I wont be staying here again. Oh and the overpriced breakfast is not great at all. I ate at the local shops the next two days.

Beach is a 2min walk from hotel. On arriving they had overbooked the rooms and this seems to be common practice as a couple of times when I went to front desk they had a folder of people arriving that day to move. So for the first few days we were put in a sister hotel in Kata. Not ideal when you want Karon beach and not Kata. I did think whoever kata beach was better than Karon.

The hotel is in a good location as it is close to the beach and plenty of restaurants. Has a good breakfast and a daily filled mini bar which is a nice touch.

Currently looks infinished and is quite loud due to its proximity to nightlife.

The room we were given looked on to the backs of streets with a water tank right outside, which was pretty disappointing.

This is our 2nd time staying here. Had a good experience with nice and friendly staff a few years ago hence we decided to stay here again. However, our experience this time is a total let down. Poor services from reception, service staff at restaurant to house keeping. Room aircon was noisy and stopped working once, toilet choked during our stay. Gave only one room card. No toothbrush and toothpaste provided. Very disappointed with the stay here. Will not stay here again.

Overall it is okay experience.

The reception staff were nice and the staff at breakfast counter were especially nice. Since we are vegetarians, we were eating bread , cornflakes and fruits. one of the staff came to us and suggested that she can ask the cook to make vegetarian fried rice for us. Quite good

The room was spacious and had free mini-bar. But the irony is the snicker and juice is there for only one person. Umbrella , beach mat etc are all inside the room. So thats great.
Btw for Indian vegetarian food , you can order from Royal Indian Restaurant , Kata . They are quite reasonable and they deliver for a nominal charge

The room cleaning lady was disinterested and half the items would be not be cleaned up. We did not make a fuss out of it as most of the trip and stay was okay. I wish the management looked into how she cleans up

There are many other beachfront properties as you will see when you're there- but this place beats them all for the price and quality you pay for.
1. Ice cream upon check in- very refreshing in this hot weather.
2. Complimentary Beach towels, mats, slippers and basket for you to use
3. Complimentary Fully stocked mini bar replenished daily
4. Steps from the beach, restaurants, beach shops and bars
5. Depending on the room- a balcony with ocean view which we did.
Now just a few things to take note.
1. The hotel charges 1000baht airport transfer which is exactly what we paid from the airport anyway- so you're better off booking with them, at least someone meets and sends you directly to hotel in under an hour.
2. The hotel can't choose its guests so you are very likely to get annoying tourists shouting as part of their daily conversations, thankfully the walls are sound proof enough.
3. The fitness room has 2 treadmills, a rider and bicycle. A bench with standard weights. Very simple but adequate.
4. Do hire a bike- it's really worth it. Taxis are very expensive.
5. Oh, bring your own toiletries if you can. Their soap and shampoo is on dispenser and no tooth brushes are provided. You have to ask. Best to bring your own really.

I was very sad to leave karon and sugar marina made it even harder to leave.

this is my fourth time there. seems like it getting worse each time. when I was there back in 2010 it was awesome. friendly staff and amazing pool access. Lack of maintenance have contributed the dirtiness and mouldy bathroom.
without the fussiness the location is ideal and close to the beach which is an added value.
breakfast is acceptable for 320 baht per person if you do not have breakfast included.

My recommendation is to book for the pool access on the old wing. the new wing that is recently completed is smaller in term of room size and the pool in the new wing is much smaller. i still like the green and spaciousnous at the old wing. (see pool aceess pic) before I left i have seen some renovation work in the front entrance.

Great location, handy to beach, shops & markets. Nice touch receiving an ice-cream on arrival. We arrived early but were allowed to check in and access our room at 11.00 am (most appreciated). Comfortable firm king sized bed. Only one chair in the room which means the other person must sit on the bed. Good to have small free mini bar daily. Room not large and bath not a necessity. Limited number of pool side umbrellas. Good selection for breakfast. No air con in reception area and no help with transporting suitcases. Room cleaned daily. Staff very friendly and helpful. Internet very slow...

First of all as I booked via your website and arrangements was to pay at the hotel on arrival, which my wife tried to pay and she got respond from the untrained staff at the reception desk. No need to pay, nothing outstanding, I went next day again with mail I got from you at the reception and asked the guy at the reception desk and he said same thing to me all is clear there is no outstanding. I try to find out more, he was not helpful and keep repeating same line again nothing to outstanding. At the time of check out my wife try to explain and make a payment, and again same story repeated. So we fed up and left for the airport before we missed out our flight. Yesterday (22/05/2017) I noticed online that Sugar Marina has used my debit card which I used for securing booking with your site they have charged £340.04. Which disappointing for us, we end up having cash of 14,000 THB and we loose good amount of commission to convert back in pounds.

Good value for money.

We stayed in the Seaview room and have no complaints whatsoever. A nice comfortable bed and always had hot water in the bathroom and nice to have a free minibar. Karon Beach is a nice little resort with some excellent restaurants.

Location and Room!

All in all, a comfortable stay!

The lobby is small and not air conditioned, and the corridors are small and dark. This almost put me off, but the rooms are comfy, clean, air conditioned, minibar is refilled daily, bathrobes, a lovely shower, a big king size bed and a balcony to hang your wet clothing!

The pool was heated and lovely with the cold jacuzzi. Close proximity to many restaurants (try Capri Noi) and we walked to the beach daily.

Pleasant hotel with good extra touches such as providing beach towels, mat and bag, flip flops and umbrellas for rain or sun protection and a mini fridge restocked daily

Friendly staff, beach is close enough to walk

Extra towel, blanket, etc can be requested without extra charges. Nice breakfast option. Surrounded by convenient store but not many of good Thai food around. You will love this hotel.

Nice hotel and not far from the beautiful beach.

It takes only 2 mins walk to the beach. The room is nice. Good buffet breakfast. Good location in Karon area.

Disappointed

Was not a great experience. Customer service leaves allot to be desired. Impression felt like we were in a factory book them in for your stay and get out at check out time...
Lack of staff at Breakfast time. Dirty dishes left on tables very difficult to get a seat due to uncleared tables..
Upon check out we eere accused of stealing a glass from the room. I advised reception to check again several times and they finally found it.
If your not Russian dont even bother staying there..

Not a happy traveller...!!

I ended up moving hotel due to it being poorly Looked after,dirty and the first room (I was shown 3) smelt like toilet. Lifts dirty,tables in lobby not clean but lots of staff doing not much standing behind the reception desk. The whole hotel seem poorly maintained. Lots of repainting needs to be done.

Needs updating!

I stayed at this hotel 8 years ago and loved it due to the great location. It's right by the beach and all the bars and restaurants. I stayed there in Febuary and its in need of some updating. The sun loungers by the pool are broken and some areas of the hotel could do with painting.
My room was a nice size but unfortunately had mosquitos in it!
Check in was very slow, I had to wait for my room to be ready.

Very good hotel

My wife and I had 5 days and 4 nights here. We may have booked one of the last available rooms. I learned that the position of your room matters. If you are in the wing nearest to the street, you will hear noise at night and first thing in the morning. If you get a back wing room it will be quieter.
No late checkout option which was frustrating. I can understand that the hotel was full but the desk didn't even try to help us. We rented a nearby \"dive\" hotel for 800 baht from noon to 6 pm after checkout.
I give everything else high grades: location to beach, food, massage areas; great morning breakfast options, speedy maid service.
It's a nice place!

The location is amazing the close to the beach and close to shopping yet very quiet. Even at nighttime you can't hear the bar is that the bars are very close as are the restaurants

Horrible Experience! Staff lied constantly

Horrible experience, expected this to be a pleasant stay. Called a month prior to my arrival to try to be able to check-in early, staff promised me a remark was made on my reservation in regards to early check in. Once I arrived at the hotel, they said they had never been called, and they had no remarks. Finally got to enter the room at 2PM, and was promised the extra bed would be put in my room by the end of the day. Around 5, they came to set up the couch with some pillows and a blanket, while I had booked an extra bed. Called the reception, and they LIED and told me the hotel DID NOT OWN extra beds. A few minutes later, and a lot of arguing an extra bed appeared. The next morning I requested to check my reservation because I had a question about mini bar refill and breakfast, and one of the staff members said I could not see my own reservation because it was confidential and pulled the paper from my hand. What kind of staff is this? Most horrible experience, was constantly lied to and not allowed to check my own reservation. It should be confidential to other guests but not to ME!

Art intriguing hotel

It was an evening change. Good to know the room was available. Karon Beach was chosen to be away from the hectic atmosphere in Patong, hence choice of restaurants are lesser in Karon. Still, Sugar Marina ART is located in a good spot where we could relax and we love the service and cleanliness and the facilities are comprehensive. 2 things which ART can improve on is the smell of the carpet in the lift, which may be too soaked with chlorine and seawater and the pillows which are a little too high for us.

Super dirty bathroom

Booked a room with a pool view, were given a splitted suit with a baby next door. When asked to change the room they told us there were no pool view rooms available. Got a worse room but they let us to make a late check-out as an apology. The bathrooms were super dirty. The walls had marks.
Russians all around, it's like russialand there. Even the staff speaks russian better than English. Never ever ever be back.

hotels in a good location for karon beach and the bars and restaurants. Had some issues with my room (there was no balcony there was no hot water all week. Tried to get this fixed but the reception staff couldn't really understan. Overall it's ok not a great

Nice hotel

Overall hotel stay experience was pleasing, however the downside was we were unable to be allowed for a late checkout although we wanted to pay for it. Was told by the front desk to come and make bookings on the 2nd last day of our stay, when we did so, we were rejected as they claim the rooms are already fully booked. It is disappointing as we went to make bookings on the 3rd day of our stay (we stayed for 7 days) but were told to come back on the 2nd last day of our stay but when we did so they claim all rooms were fully booked thus we were not able to book for a late checkout.
We had a toddler (2 years old) with us and we had to checkout and stay in the airport for almost 8 hours before our flight.

Close to the beach

Room was well kept and clean. Black out curtains helped a lot. Issues with the shower overflowing. Do not plan on taking a shower longer than 5 minutes or else the bathroom will flood. Be warned lots of construction going on. this is a busy area.
