The hotel really made us feel unsafe. Around 7pm, we suddenly heard aggressive knocking on the door and someone tried to use the key card to enter our door for about 3-4 times. The person did not say a word while doing this. But the key card only works for the correct door so the person was unable to enter. We also had locked the door from inside. It was really scary at the moment. We went down to the front desk after but they said that the floors do not have cameras so they won’t be able to check who was knocking on our door non stop.

We booked the room with the balcony but the hotel told us that all the rooms were booked so we didn’t end up getting the room that we booked so we left with the corner room with no balcony.

Beautiful hotel in prime view location with very nicely decorated rooms. Due to good weather they kept the pool open during our stay. Phenomenal views and quality loungers on the roof deck.

A few of the staff were a bit brusque and we waited a long time for service at the bar when we first arrived. Room soundproofing left something to be desired. Opportunity to enable making a cup of tea in room not just pod coffee. Breakfast buffet steep at EUR 24pp

If you are from the USA and visiting San Sebastian, this hotel is the best, offering a 360-degree view of the ocean. Easy access to the beach and town of San Sebastian. The view is out of this world.

I was really disappointed with the quality and cleanliness of the room. White towels and bed sheets were marked and I had ask for the sheets to be changed bc there was brown staining all around the edge. I had to ask twice and it was only done after I showed the receptionist in person. The room and bathroom were very tired and need significant updating with marks all over the walls. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned properly either as there were waxy make up marks in and around the sink which I tried to clean myself with some hand sanitizer. The pool area and and bar area were lovely and the views from the hotel were stunning. Sadly, neither of these made up for a dirty and tired room. Overall I expected better from a Mercure hotel.

Amazing view – totally worth it! The room was a bit dusty on arrival, but otherwise clean and comfortable. Room facilities were excellent and well-maintained. Breakfast was nice, though the hot food and dinner options felt a bit limited, especially for international guests. Overall, a great stay with stunning scenery!

Great view but noisy, overpriced and getting old

The hotel has an amazing view but it is getting old. First you can hear almost everything from the other rooms. Walls are like cardboards. THAT is absolutely unacceptable at that price point. The pool was disgusting with hundreds (literally) of dead bugs in it. The restaurant, El Torreon, is extremely overpriced and the service is bad. The hotel has a lot of potential due to its location but it is not (no longer?) 4 stars. The pool needs to be cleaned more often and the guy responsible for it and for handing the towels should do his job and stop texting on his cell. The restaurant should be completely changed: better portions, better deserts, lower prices and better service. Definitely overpriced overall. But the view is great…

Amazing views and resort feel!

Excellent stay at Mercure San Sebastián. Pick this hotel because it was a respite from city centers during our travels. It gave you an excellent resort feel. The views and panoramic location was gorgeous. It was quite difficult though to get down to the town as the pannicular does not start till 1030 and it ends at 8:30 so we needed to rely on taxis of which they took minimum of 10 to 15 minutes to get up to the hill and sometimes many people were waiting ahead of us. The walk down or up is on a very curved road with steep incline and little protection from cars, therefore we did not walk and the path was quite long. Otherwise, we are very happy with our stay.

Left a night early I couldn’t stay.

I arrived and was largely ignored while the front desk just chatted with each other on Spanish I had no idea what I was waiting for. The room smelled when I walked in, the aircon didn’t work. I tried opening the window but it still wouldn’t get rid of the smell. The service at the bar was the worst service I’ve ever encountered and that was by two different bar tenders. I was also parked in and when I tried to ask for help I was ignored by parking attendants that let people in and just told that they don’t speak English I couldn’t get out. I only stayed one night and then left, the basics of a hotel. The price and rating of the hotel doesn’t match it at all.

The hotel is in one of the best spot for a view of the beach, mountains and to a lesser extent part of the city. It situated at the top mountain, don’t bother trying to walk up and down the mountain regularly as it’s about a 40 minute. Drive, taxi or take the funicular train up and get discount as you’ll be a resident of the hotel. There is a number 16 bus that we did not try. The hotel bar food was good enough. The outside bar lounge was great for day views and sunset. We had misty night where we in the clouds and could not see a thing but was one of those funny moments. Hotel staff help us phone and communicate in Spanish when our car had a puncture and had to get it recovered.
We had a see view room with a small balcony which was lovely. Note that this hotel shares the same ground as the small amusement park that gets plenty of visitors as we could see them posing for the best photo spot in San Sebastián in my opinion. Note once you get to the bottom of the mountain it’s about a 30-45 minute walk to the old town. We did not try the hotel restaurant or pool as we’re at the beach and old town every day. The non-smart tv had the back enclosed so we couldn’t connect a iPad or laptop to it.

Air conditioning does not operate until June. It’s 80*f in room. No fan possible. They advertise pool- it’s closed “until summer”.
False advertising, there is no mention pool and air conditioning not available for our stay.
Restaurant average, served wrong dishes.

Es un hotel que se construyó hace muchísimos años pero está perftament bien adaptado. Es cómodo, limpio agradable, perfecto para grupos o simposiums, en la misma propiedad esta un parque de diversiones y el funicular.
Tiene la mejor vista de San Sebastian sin duda, los turistas están obligados a asistir al hotel para tomar un café y disfrutar la visita de la bahía de La Concha, hermoso!!!!!

Do not stay there! The rooms were filthy. Dust all over the room. Dirty cleaning water marks on the walls and the staff didn’t seem to care when I went down to receipt to inform them of the state of the room nor when I showed them the photos. Also there was no hot water in the morning!

Strange man at barrier entrance, not in any form of uniform and wanted to see our hotel booking confirmation - didn’t explain why. Made us feel uncomfortable.
Reception staff not very welcoming.
Bath wasn’t clean - found hairs floating in the bath I had run.
Bar food was terrible and overpriced.
The hotel views are absolutely amazing and the bar seating area is beautiful. Breakfast was lovely with great views but wouldn’t stay again. Very isolated if you want to explore on foot.

Spectacular view and location. The funicular takes you to the beach and if you love to walk, like we do, you can explore the old city. The room was comfortable. We wanted to swim some laps so we were disappointed the oook was closed in the overcast weather. We had dinner in the bar. The food was good but the staff overwhelmed and service was slow. The house wine by the glass was disappointing given all the great wines in Spain.

Loved this property, the view is breathtaking and the dinner was really good. There is an amusement park at the base of the hotel which would be really fun with small kids. There is also a tran type ride that will take you to the bottom of the hill where the beach is.
Downside: The front desk is a bit slow and not always attended.

Bed was not comfy - very very firm and felt old. Everything else about the hotel was worthy of five stars! But had trouble getting good sleep.

The location of the hotel is stunning (on top of a hill overlooking the Atlantic and the town) and the rooftop pool has great views. The inside bar and lounge is lovely with great views of the Atlantic. The views make it. Everything else was good. The restaurant is very good. The service was slow at times. Sometime there weren’t enough staff when the hotel was busy and you had to wait a long time and sometimes orders were very delayed or there were no clean tables at breakfast.

All that glitters is not gold. Shower and ac good. Bed ok but defineately hard. Service - I've seen happier people at a funeral and staff per demand is low so both those are on management. Wifi weak and flakey. In room coffee ...instant coffee ....that is 2 star hotel stuff not to mention only 1 regular packet and not replaced. No iron or ironning board available. Just a litany of thing that keep this grand on the surface but less so underneath

We arrived to San Sebastián in the afternoon via the bus from Hendaye. We knew the hotel was on top of one of the flanking hills on either side of the crescent beach so was excited to get to the hotel and take in the view – like the pictures.

You can take the 16 bus which runs from end to end, we arrived at the base on the funicular that takes you up to the hotel and here is the first problem; you have to pay to go to your hotel. As a guest you get a concession rate of €3 per person return, it doesn’t sound like a lot but given there is nothing to do around the hotel as it’s on the far side of town you would soon spend €10 a day just getting up to your hotel a bus into town.

The second issue is that the hotel is on top of an old amusement park, luckily the weather was bad so it wasn’t busy but this itself is a tourist destination so if you just want to go to your room for a nap, you have to go up a funicular with a bunch of tourists who just want to go on the rollercoaster. The view from the room is nice, but to have your window open you can hear the sounds of kids in the amusement park below. It’s a very weird experience.

We arrived and even though we paid upfront for 4 days, I asked if we could cancel our stay before we checked in. Obviously, they wouldn’t refund us so we just grinned it and stayed for 2 nights.

The hotel is fine, it’s what a commercial chain hotel was back in the late 90s and hasn’t changed much since. It’s clean, facilities are old but nice enough.

The Mecure San Sebastian is a lovely hotel with amazing views over the ocean, the city and its beaches.
We ate in the dining room one night. The meal was delicious, and the service from the restaurant staff was excellent.
A long walk to the Old Town was worth the effort, although a bus service was available to the end of the road of the hotel.
A very enjoyable stay in San Sebastian which we would definitely return to.
Our only negative comment was regarding a lack of coffee in the room, just 2 sachets, and no creamer, but just a small gripe.

Beautiful view from the hotel. Hotel is a little dated and the electrical system is tricky. Our devices didn’t charge all night because we didn’t have the right switch on that controls all the outlets and lights. Also, you might want to bring your own hairdryer as you basically have to straddle the toilet to use it with its short cord and it keeps shutting off when it gets hot.

This hotel has a beautiful view,
My room was in a Box. The window had a view of walls. They could have some plants or trees.
I arrived from a all day tour around 4:00 and the kitchen was close until 8pm.

They did not offer nothing except a bag of potatoes chips and drinks.
For me it was not worth to stay here. Next time I will take up the funicular at the end of the beach and have a drink in the restaurant next to it.

The view was breathtaking and the decor in the foyer was lovely but you definitely require the patience of a saint if you want to order ANYTHING from the bar morning or night.
I stood at the bar for 20 minutes before walking away with nothing but irritation one evening. At the time, there were only a handful of other people standing at the bar and 3 staff behind the bar who couldn’t seem to get out of each other’s way.
The bar snack menu was extremely limited and when we ordered and it came out, the volume and presentation of the food was extremely underwhelming to say the least.
The hotel is very secluded so there either needs to be a more a comprehensive menu with more efficient and competent staff or just have vending machines in the foyer.
The room was comfortable and clean and the view from the balcony was lovely.

San Sebastian getaway

A 5 night stay at this wonderful hotel overlooking the bay of San Sebastion. The setting was perfect. We relaxed by the pool, either after breakfast or after an excursion down into town, or the old town. Wonderful popl, plenty of sunloungers and its own bar, and again fantastic views over San Sebastian. Our room had a balcony overlooking the bay and mountains, what's not to love. The staff were very friendly, plenty of areas to sit and have a drink and relax, and look at the view. The food was excellent and plenty of variety at breakfast. My only small moan as I like my food hot and not luke warm, is there wasn't a proper hot plate keeping the food hot.

Hotel is in an amazing hill top position and we stayed in a room with a balcony that looked out onto the bay and the town. Everything about the hotel was exceptional, except they seemed to be very short staffed when we were there and service wasn't great in the restaurant. I definitely would love to return though.

The hotel was elegant and had floor to ceiling windows to enjoy the magnificent views. The front reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The view from our bedroom balcony was amazing especially the sunrise over the mountains.
One draw back, it was quite far from the restaurants. We had an awesome time.

Really nice hotel with the most amazing views over San Sebastian bay, and the sunset draws visitors to hotel just for that.
Lots of free sunbeds on the rooftop terrace pool, which has an adequate bar area.
Reception staff really helpful, and offered tips on where to visit / eat that weren't necessarily on the tourist trail.
One thing to be aware of is the satnav in our car took us up the road to the right of Monte Igueldo (anticlockwise) but is very narrow, and eventually is a dead end. The only access is via the amusement park which has a security barrier so you must have proof with you that you're a hotel guest otherwise they may charge you to enter.

But the quality of the hotel does not match the view; very slow check-in (only one agent working), indifferent service at the bar (and a limited selection of brands), and poorly cleaned rooms (the area behind our toilet was simply disgusting.)

The view is stunning. My room was inward facing with no view but San Sebastian can be seen from the dining and lounge areas. I would get a room with a view next time. Convenient on-site parking. Fantastic views, great stay

Location is unbeatable, but staff is also very friendly and accommodating. We asked to check out a bit later and they made no fuss even though they were fully booked for the next night and obviously very busy.
However, the swimming pool closes before sunset which is a shame, considering it has great views in that direction (as opposed to the rest of the hotel looking out mostly on the bay).

great views lovely staff

Fabulous views and pool. Bar terrace and restaurant beautiful with amazing views over bay. Room was great but needed attention. The wallpaper was detaching from the wall by the door out on to the balcony. High quality toiletries in room and lovely big towels. But bizarrely only one socket on one side of the bed and none on the other. Not great for modern life as everyone has phones and iPads needing to be charged.

horrible experience

The worst welcome I experienced. We had a little girl with us who wanted to make a nap and we had to wait until 3:30 pm to get the room. The hotel was empty, no one at the pool, only one guest at the restaurant. We were encouraged to get out of the hotel for lunch. They apologized but it was too late, the day was ruined.

Paper-thin walls and uncomfortable beds

Stayed here for 2 nights, and I could not stand the noise. We could hear everything going on the room next to us, the stairway to the other side of us, the room upstairs, and any activity in the hallway - it was a surround sound of unwanted noise. If we could understand the language, we would've been able to hear what the people in the room next to us were saying. Housekeeping sounded like they were remodeling the entire room above us at 9am when we were trying to sleep in a little - vacuuming and dragging furniture all around the room (why???).

The beds (2 twins pushed together to make 1 double bed) felt like a spring mattress from a pull out couch. Super uncomfortable, and not what I expected from a 4-star hotel.

It seems like this hotel was once amazing, and now it's just way past its heyday.

The view from the hotel is unique. The fact that a historic Tivoli park was a part of it and the funicular railway built 1912 still working well and it took only few minutes to go to the beach.

The view from Mount Igueldo is fantastic, day and night. The location is a little remote from the city proper, we ended up just using a cab everyday to get to and from the hotel. The hotel itself is very modern.

Fantastic Views , Great staff . One of the front desk clerks Oscar Garcia was amazing. The protests in San Sebastián disrupted public transport and when our taxi to train station. Failed to show because of blocked streets , he took us in his own can to make we made our train. Above and beyond!!!

The charger was away from the bed...nowhere to support the phone or items that required charging. The swimming pool was closed. Despite being 26 degrees at night, the staff refused to put on the air conditioning system. The room was next to the lift and all I could here were the bells to the lift.
