They greeted us with a Birthday card abd goodie bag for my son which he really enjoyed! Our room was clean and nice. We had a great time and the boardwalk is only 3 min away walking. On our check out day on Sunday we were able to leave our car parked while we enjoyed a walk to the warf. Overall great place to stay!

Everything was super! We stayed 3 nights, came in for work and had our 6 year old kid with us. They accommodated everything! People that work there are the nicest and so hospitable. We tried other hotels in the area, newer on Beach street but nothing like this Marriott. From room size, to bed comfort to the people that work there and the prices are very reasonable for the area.

The room was great! Cleaned, beds were comfortable and the temperature was easy to adjust. The only complaint I had was how the bathroom is spaced out to be in the room area. There’s no privacy besides the barn door so you can hear everything in the restroom. Staff was wonderful!

Hotel is in good condition though it could do with better housekeeping. We stayed for 3 nights and they only emptied the trash once. Never made the bed nor did other cleaning. Because of this, you can see little things not being taken care of such as stains on the bathroom floor. Staff at front desk were friendly.

We arrived at night in the rain. We couldn't locate the front door. We went into Valet parking to ask for assistance. The valet said the elevator was in there. She said we could pay $30 for valet OR park on the street and take the elevator to the lobby. On the street parking was on the other side of the building AND the gate to get into the building was locked for the night, so my daughter & I would have to walk, with our luggage in the rain, around the block. I paid for valet and we checked into our room. The front desk clerk was very nice. Our room was nice with great amenities. We went to shower before we headed to dinner and found that the bathroom door was swollen or broken, it rubbed on the floor and only opened half way. There was plastic around a few of our lights too. When we checked out in the morning, we went to valet where we were greeted by a young man. We gave him our ticket and he handed us our keys. He then pointed across the parking lot to where our car was parked. We paid $30 for valet and this young man couldn't be bothered to actually \"valet\" our car. The room was nice BUT the service was awful and we will never stay here again. Our child is in college up here and we visit 3-4x a year. This hotel will NOT be on our list.

Hotel, room, location were all superb! However the valet crew were very much in need of customer service training. I wasnt compelled to tip until check out. Finally I had the chance to tip valet when thw morning crew came. They were extremely attentive, quick, and respectful.

The hotel is in walking distance to the Boardwalk, stores and restaurants. Our room was clean and well kept. Only negative is that parking is $30 per night. Also, a lamp fell over onto the bed where my daughter was sleeping. There was broken glass everywhere. Luckily, she was not injured. We will stay here again.

⭐️⭐️ Disappointing and Unwelcoming Experience
This was the fourth hotel I stayed at during my current West Coast trip, and unfortunately Courtyard by Marriott Santa Cruz was the only one that made me feel genuinely unwelcome. The overall impression was that I should feel grateful just to be given a room, rather than welcomed as a paying guest staying three nights.
Key issues:
No daily housekeeping
The hotel does not provide daily room cleaning. This was not clearly communicated at the time of booking or during check-in, which was disappointing.
Inconvenient process for basic necessities
Because of the alternate-day housekeeping policy, I had to queue at the front desk just to request clean towels, coffee refills, and disposable cups. This was inconvenient and unnecessary for a hotel at this level.
Poor front desk interaction regarding late checkout
On my second day, I approached the front desk to inquire about the possibility of late checkout as a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite member, as I needed certainty for activity bookings on my checkout day.
While speaking with one staff member, another senior staff member interjected with a blunt “Not guaranteed, subject to availability,” without any attempt to understand my situation or explain the policy in a courteous manner.
I fully understand that late checkout is never guaranteed, but a little empathy or a polite explanation would have gone a long way, especially for an experienced Marriott guest.

Amenities were sparse. Took a day and a half to get hot water. Problem with water system. Lobby was not very inviting. Room furnishings were stark and lacked basic table and chairs in a suite. Large open area in bedroom looking like something was missing. Called front desk twice and rang 10 plus times.. no answer.
Restaurant tables not clean or kept up. So many things. Not normal for a Marriott hotel.

Room was a good size and quite stylish for the price. we had a comfortable stay there. the room could have a bit more lighting as it felt a bit dim at night.
We were a bit lazy when we checked into the hotel and just bought some items from the room next to the reception, there was no pricing. We only later found out that the shop just a couple minutes walk from the hotel was selling them for half the price.
It is only a 5 mins walk to the Boardwalk and a further 5 mins to the Pier.
Parking was valet parking but I'm not sure why it needed it as we actually drove straight into the carpark and could have just parked it ourselves. Luckily Hotel.com had parking for $17 when the hotel has it at $30, so we paid for it as part of the package.
There was some confusion with reception when we checked out, they charged me for parking, I had explained that I had already paid for parking at the booking, they said that they can't see it, which seemed bit odd.they did reverse the charge.

We checked in at 9:30pm yesterday and was told there was no parking spot in the hotel garage and we have to find the parking on street. This is the first time we came to Santa Cruz and we’re not familiar with the area at all. It took us 30 minimum to find a parking spot about 10 minutes away from the hotel and the parking spot was only valid for free parking till 8:00am. So we had to get up early in the morning to move our car. It was a terrible experience. We spent over $500 a night and we have to find a parking space by ourselves on the street in a strange city. We have travelled a lot and had never such a bad experience especially it was night and we were exhausted after driving a long way.

Bed bugs found in Room 225 on September 20, 2025. Originally given room 225 and while doing a routine scan for bed bugs, I found 2 in the seams of the fabric headboard. Both were recently engorged and large, seemingly having been there for a long time.
Told the front desk about it and they moved us to a different room on a different floor, but nothing else was done for the inconvenience. They could only place us on the 1st floor, leaving us exposed to ground level traffic. The curtain wouldn't shut properly so passerbys could peek in easily. We had to pin together the curtains to get enough privacy.
When asked to contact a manager, the manager refused, citing being \"too overwhelmed.\" They refused to come out to speak with us even though they had just helped another customer that was right in front of us. They kept promising that the general manager would call before the end of our stay, but they never did.
Disappointing because this is an expensive hotel that shouldn't have these types of problems. And if so, they should at least address something as severe as bed bugs early. Who knows if there are any in other rooms. Again, the 2 bed bugs were found easily meaning they've been feeding and in the room for a long time. Unfortunately management doesn't seem concerned enough to fix the problem.

The standard amenities like ice machines and vending machines were not available on the floors of the rooms. We got in late and were only staying one night so we asked for a late checkout and were only given thirty minutes. This is the smallest allowance for time on a late checkout request I had ever received, anywhere, and I have travelled extensively. If there was a spa or pool, nobody mentioned it to me. I enjoyed the quality of the room and it was clean/comfortable, but all the other amenities I mentioned were lackluster. We had to pay for valet parking but the car was not brought to us when we picked it up, we had to locate and drive it out ourselves. Overall, it was a clean and relatively nice hotel, but there was no customer gratitude shown. The staff was nice, just not overly concerned with customer service.

No parking available at valet. Had to pay for metered parking outside. Checked in at 4:30pm and room was not available till after 5:30pm. Hotel and valet do not operate as a single business. They appear to be separate. Valet parking is the only option and their setup is a nightmare.

Very comfortable bedding, clean rooms. Parking was a nightmare—we had to circle for nearly an hour. The rate we were charged was higher than what we were quoted, and when I asked for a couple of extra pillows, they never showed up. Service from the manager was also very underwhelming and far from what you’d expect at this level. If you’re looking for luxury experience, keep searching elsewhere.

Not customer friendly, poor way to check in. Cafe employee gave us the wrong information regarding closing hours for dining. Ordered take out , front desk receive it and did not call us to pickup food, we waiting , but had to check and call the desk . At check out carts for your suit case are located in the basement parking area not in the lobby, unheard of this before.
