The hotel is in perfect location for visiting main attractions in sultan ahmet.
The room for three adults was spacious, bed was comfortable.
Wi-Fi was excellent.
Staff were very helpful.
Transport is easily accessible, tram is best to reach various areas quickly.

We booked a superior room it wasn't good,bathroom light didn't work,aircon didnt work,the safe locked our stuff in it couldn't open till engineer came the next day,then had to stay in all morning till he turned up,when you book for 3nights its a pain.did get upgraded but went to that room had no soap,shampoo.would like some compensation but don't no were to start.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. We felt very welcomed and extremely well looked after by all their staff. We arrived early and the check in staff managed to get a room ready for us ahead of schedule which we greatly appreciated.

During breakfast we were looked after by Erhan who was very friendly and helpful. Warisha also made us feel very welcome.

Good hotel!

Our stay in this hotel was good. The hotel room was a smaller than shown in pics and a bit outdated but this is normal for hotels in the sultanahmet area. We were given a bigger room as soon as we complained so thank you to Malik at reception for making that happen. The room was cleaned every day and breakfast was nice as well. You could hear through the walls though and Friday night was noisy as we could hear people from the restaurants around us partying away but it still wasn’t too bad. Location wise, is is perfect. Round the corner from the blue mosque, aya sofya etc etc and very close to the tram which is easy and cheap to use. There is a seperately owned restaurant called QuebLounge above the 4th floor of the hotel and a huge thank you to Yusuf for his amazing hospitality skills. We tried the breakfast here which was amazing. The roof opened up and the windows come down which give an amazing view of the blue mosque and sea. And every evening when we were done for the day, we would come up for smoking shisha which again was lovely. Yusuf made sure we were happy with everything so I would definitely recommend the restaurant as well! Don’t use the hotel spa as service was sub standard and more than triple the price of other local hamams!! We haggled and paid £40 for the hamam at the hotel and later came across the same service at a local hamam for £10!! Overall, will definitely be booking this hotel again!

Hotel is very old with outdated furniture. We stayed for 5 days.

Cleaning staff were talking loud among themselves in the hallways. They distributed our sleep in the mornings.

The breakfast was terrible. The juices tasted awful.

The front staff were friendly and checking in was easy. The location is great.

It's over priced. For the price we paid, we could've gotten a better hotel for the same price.

We had disabled passengers and this was really unacceptable. This was at 1.00 am and we were all really tired. Firstly, the pros:
+ Excellent location, just a 2-3 min walk to the Sultan Ahmet square. The hotel is located at Akbiyak Street, which remains well-lit throughout the night. Gives you a safe and secure feeling. Good shops nearby for buying souvenirs, close to Araasta Bazaar
+ Some of the guys at the front desk, like Kadir and Maalik are quite helpful and eager to help in any way.
+ You can take a Havaist (Airport Bus) from the Sultan Ahmet square for only 18 TL per person. It is a very comfortable airport transfer and there is no limit for check-in luggage.
+ Sultan Ahmet metro tram station is a 2 min walk from the hotel which connects with other Metro Lines very well.
+ Hotel is neat and clean.

Now the negatives:
- house keeping department can be improved as the bed sheet on our bed had a hole in it. We slept on it for two d. We requested for a new sheet and the one they give us had two instead of one hole. Anyhow problem was resolved.
- Okta (front desk guy) was quite rude and unhelpful. We requested for a late check out and the way he behaved was quite inappropriate.
- Monotonous breakfast, which can be improved in terms of quality as well (juices are completely undrinkable) and the worst part is they start removing stuff exactly at 10:30 from buffet even while you're still eating.
- Only one side table in room.
- worn out mattress
- no iron in the room and expensive laundry.
- Small rooms. Even size of superior room is small with one bed side table

Comfortable stay and great location

The Byzantium Hotel is an ideal place to stay due to its location. There are plenty of restaurants and bars close by. But the best reason for choosing this hotel was that all the major historical sites were literally 5mins walk away.
The hotel staff were very friendly and polite. My only qualm was that their housekeeping was not regular and I had to request it on a number of occasions.

Absolutely rubbish also totally misguided from Expedia customers service who booked room over the phone.
I have to waited 5 hours until I got to the room and when I got to the room and it was kinda storage room on the basement
Never pay in advance to Expedia and never book the room until you are sure about room conditions and view it was worst experience in my life
All hotel pictures are fake don’t trust at all.

Beautiful hotel near to major attractions

We were here 9-15 Jan 2016. Winter in Istanbul. The hotel is just 5 minutes walk from the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Sultanahmet Square, Hippodrome. Me, hubby and 21 years old daughter took a triple sharing room. We were given Room 2304 (3 single beds; part view of hotel dining area and management office). The room was spacious compared to the 1 Queen bed + 1 Single Bed set up we were kindly shown. Housekeeping comes in every day with a new change of towels! There is in-room tea/coffee facilities and a mini bar. Floor is parquet. Breakfast was always prepared fresh and a good variety too. Kudos to the staff namely Yessmin and Atti who were very helpful and friendly. There is an elevator! A godsend when you have 3 large luggage to pull. The hotel's restaurant is located on the 4th level and you get this beautiful view of the Bosphorus Sea whilst you dine. Prices were reasonable considering we stayed in the tourist belt! The nearest Metro (light rail) to the hotel is Sultanahmet station just 8 minutes walk away.

Atuturk Airport is 20 minutes drive. We took a private shuttle service from airport to hotel that costs 120 lira per van. From hotel to airport there was a shuttle service that costs 15 lira per person.

Interesting stay.

On our arrival at the Byzantium at about midnight we were told that there was no room for us as they had over booked despite the fact that we had booked 5 months previously. Not a good start. They sent us around the corner to another hotel of lesser standard for the night. The next day when we were able to check in we were upgraded to a suite which was nice. However when we returned to the hotel for another two nights two weeks later we were in a tiny room with a tiny bathroom. Breakfast was average.

Fabulous find in the heart of old Istanbul

The hotel was a little hard to find from the Sultanhamen tram/ metro station but people were very helpful when we asked. When we got to the hotel, the staff were great helping us check in. We had booked a family room and did have to walk out of the hotel and around the corner to get to the room. After a days' traveling I was not impressed, however the room more than made up for it. It was luxurious, large and the kids loved it. There were two single proper beds for the kids, not trundles. They had their own room with tv and we parents had our own room with tv and huge king bed.

The hotel is walking distance to Aya Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the various shops. We also walked to the Grand Bazaar which took about 15 minutes.

My young son and I had a Turkish massage/ bath and I did find it a little disappointing. However, this is probably only because I am quite familiar with this and that the lady who looked after me was Russian and somehow in Turkey I had expected someone more authentic.

We left very early the next morning to do the Gallipoli tour and we told the hotel that we would need breakfast at 6am and would that be a problem because the hotel dining room we noticed was not open until 7am. They said that they would arrange something which I foolishly believed to be room service of some sort. It was not until 6.15 when we actually went to the lobby to ask where breakfast was that they pointed to the dining room. Best to clarify what they mean beforehand I guess.

Bad attitudes, bad AC

I read several reviews about how other travelers were upset that they were \"stuck in the basement\", so I specifically requested not to be. Of course, that's just what happened when they claimed, \"Sorry, usually we would put you on the fourth floor with a view, but we'll have to give you a tower room instead, because all of our rooms were booked.\" In the basement....
I wasn't overly upset, because I was just spending the night but after a few minutes I noticed that the AC was out. So I called...\"Did you turn it on?\" Yes, I did. \"I will call my friend to come fix.\" The friend hit the same buttons as me. \"Ok, I will call technician\".
I told them that I wanted a new room. \"Just wait, technician will be here at 8\". Well, I went out and called around 9, asking if \"technician\" had come out...they said they would send their \"friend\" to go look at the AC and had no idea what I was talking about.
When I got back, no AC. I told the manager that I want a new room, they said, just a minute, I will call technician...Ok, here will be here tomorrow.
Anyway, they had no more rooms, so I demanded to be transferred to a new hotel, which they appeared to try to accommodate, but I waited in the lobby for a taxi for about an hour. Finally, I capitulated, took the room and demanded a refund which they gave me in cash Euros, along with a fan and a bag of ice. Unlovely.
Breakfast was a chaotic affair with a snooty staff. I couldn't wait to go....

Firstly we went back to this lovely hotel for a second time within a year, so that must be a strong vote of confidence. The location is perfect for fun loving tourists with loads of restaurants & bars open to the street on both sides, so don't go for a quiet break! The staff are very attentive & welcoming with daily advice given freely as to things you should go off & see.

The bedrooms are very comfortable and the breakfast is great catering to all tastes whilst the whole hotel is spotlessly clean. Unfortunately our stay was a little less enjoyed this time due to the air conditioning not working properly and the staff didn't seem to fully appreciate our discomfort. However 2 doors along our friends experienced no such problem so pot luck did for us this time!

Good hotel except for airconditioning

hotel was very nice except for the air-conditioning. It is set centrally and could not be changed. The room was hot and stuffy. We were told to open the window, which we did, but the street noise was so loud I had to shut it at 3am. We complained and they moved us immediately to a back room where we could open the window without noise.

Interesting Istanbul

This hotel is in the heart of the tourist district, the area known as Sultanamet. If you don't like noise at night you should ask for a room away from the street. The action was certainly happening on our street at night. Our room was quite small and did not have a good place for luggage. However, the hotel staff were terrific! The guest relations ladies, Dorina and Jasmin were great at helping us get around and tips for places to see other than the most famous sites. The breakfast staff provided excellent service as did the staff taking care of our room.

This hotel is in an excellent location with the blue mosque, Hagia Sophia, topkapi palace, basilica cistern, and güilhane park all within a short walking distance. For any locations further out sultanhamet tram stop is also within a short walk. The staff was friendly, and the restaurant is fantastic. The concierge did an amazing job of making sure the guests were getting the best out of their stay.

This hotel is no better than a cheap accommodation looking to swindle money from tourists. We paid twice as they weren't aware we prepaid through the booking site and they have not yet returned our money a month later despite many assurances they will. The customer service has been terrible and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone despite its central location.

Close to everything.

A one night stay as I roam around Istanbul. It was a competitive priced hotel in the heart of Sutanahmet. The rooms were clean, a bit dated, but quite servicable. I was given an amazing sea view by the very cheerful front desk. The spa services are available to guests for an additional charge, and a couple treadmills make up the fitness center. Breakfast was ample with a wide selection of hot and cold items. Get a good price and it's worth staying here as part of your trip.

My room was dark with no view and noisy as it overlooked a hallway. I asked to change room which the did happily.
Although my new room was on the 4 th floor it was now on street side and way too noisy.
The street is lively with many restaurants and lots of noise and couldn't sleep.
The hotel staff are friendly, the hotel clean and well situated within walking distance to places like Haghia Sophia.
The best was the breakfast....first rate selection.

A Jewel in the Old City

This hotel is in a great location nestled in a funky little street with some very good restaurants located right around the corner from the Blue Mosque. The service was excellent and the concierge was extremely helpful to our group of first-time visitors. They also had a small workout room with a couple of really good treadmills which came in handy. Also, we found the rooftop restaurant at the hotel very good with good food and better views. This is a great place from which to explore one of the world's great cities. Highly recommended.

Hotel staff very helpful and polite. This is a small hotel. I stayed on first floor. My room was small but very clean, however you hear a lot of noise from the lobby. I would avoid 1st floor if you can for that reason. The roof top terrace restaurant is very nice. Wifi Access and nice view. This hotel is at a great location. Close to Mosque, grand bazar, and Sultanahmet train/subway station. I would definatly stay there again.

Excellent..friendly staff, clean, Dorina especially very good, lovely breakfast, nice terrace resturante close to all the attractions including blue mosque, Aya Sofia, Topkapi palace, all within walking distance, nice eateries nearby and a bazaar. A small grocery store infront of the hotel helps you to get fresh fruits water milk etc very handy remains open till late. Tram Sultanahmet is near blue mosque walkable distance of 10 or less minutes. Near the hotel airport transfer is available for 5 euro which is handy if you have less members. This is good while departing from Istanbul .....I wish you a pleasant stay.... I am sure you will not be disappointed, standard rooms may be little small, you can change to executive I think, but have to pay a little more I suppose. Overall an excellent zero complaint pleasurable experience... Five stars service.

This hotel is at great location. We had double room, I don't know what was the difference with budget room, I think that there was no difference, only in price. Bathroom was very small, with really really small bath, and shower was fixed on the wall, it's ok if you're small, I'm not, so when I want to was my hair I had to bend down. Room was cold, if you want heating, you have to be in the room, beacuse you need card for electricity, bathroom don't have heating :(. Cleaning lady left window opened every day, so later we didn't let her in the room, beause it's was allready cold and it was no need to leave the window opened in december. The breakfest was ok, it's nessesary to get there at least 1 hour before and, because if you're not you can't find everything. The stuff was very nice and frendly.

Very good hotel - clean and excellent location, very good value. Low season could account for the somewhat dismal atmosphere upstairs at the restaurant. Buffet breakfasts were very nice with lots of options and helpful service. It was a bit noisy outside, but probably due to the nearby hostel. Nothing major. Overall this was a great place to stay but for one troubling incident: very late on our last night the obviously drunk Italians in the next room had apparently forgotten their room number, thought our rooms was theirs, and had one of the young night staff members open the door to our room for them. They soon realized they were in the wrong room. Very disruptive and a bit unnerving. Staff were apologetic the next day but I won't forget our next door neighbours' laughter, thinking it was all a big joke.

Small room with small bathroom, great location and nice stuff. Heating is working only when you're in the room, beacuse you need card for electricity so in the room is cold, and heating is only for room - bathroom is cold all the time. When you want to take a shower you're really cold, it's ok bathroom if you're small, beacuse shower is fixed, so when I need to wash my hair I have to bend down. We get a bathroom with small bath. Cleaning lady left window open every day, and put heating from 1 on 0, so when we come back in the room it was very cold.

The staff is ever so efficient and helpful and speak English!Breakfast is excellent .Location could not be better - very close to the Topkapi and with a wide selection of restaurants at your door . Although very busy at night the noise is not enough to disturb anybody's sleep . Rooms are on the small side but who needs a giant room when in Istanbul?Thee spa and Hammam is brand new ,extremely clean and excellent value for money comparing to the traditional public ones where the noise is such that you cannot relax. All in all a very good choice.

Very close to the Four Seasons, which is an oasis of splendid beauty and service where you can truly relax and unwind and have 5-star lunch or dessert.

Great location!

We stayed here overnight during a layover in Istanbul on our way home. It was perfect! It is in walking distance of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia and tons of bars and restaurants! The hotel itself was very nice! The room was small but perfect for us. The staff was helpful. They have a rooftop bar/restaurant that has one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. I wish we would have had more time in Istanbul and will surely return to the city and this hotel.

Excellent hotel and location

I booked this hotel after reading a lot of good reviews about it from various different websites, and I've got to say it lived up to expectations. The hotel is on a very popular tourist street with a wide selection of bars and restaurants all serving traditional Turkish cuisine and also western food. The atmosphere around the hotel at night is brilliant. The hotel terrace is very once and offers views overlooking the Golden Horn and The Blue Mosque. All of the main attractions of Istanbul are within 5-10 minutes walking distance. The staff at the hotel were superb and the breakfast was very good as well.

1. They moved me to the hotel across the road called Senatus (Byzatinum front desk provided me with seemingly good offers such as free spa or Turkish Bath or sauna, late check out at 8pm, free taxi to the airport)
2. No 1 points were NOT communicated between Byzantium and Senatus, Senatus guest relation and customer service were not professional. They argued in front of the guest with Byzantium on their communication failure between hotels.
3. The room was ok but service of both hotels are ameature, the agile biggest problem was that they just don't listen what you have to say, said what they have to say and guest have to be OK with it.
4. I didn't get any of the offers they 'offered' my stay was a very bad experience
5. I don't recommend these two hotels

Stayed for seven days and enjoyed ourselves. Beware of the taxis 2 our of 3 tryed to charge almost double what was on the meter after covering the meter half way through journey.

Perfect hotel!

Just back from a three night stay at The Byzantium and I couldn't have asked for a better hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the hotel itself was beautiful and in the perfect location for sightseeing ... Also we were given a room upgrade for free on arrival. I recommend a meal or cocktail on the hotel's roof terrace too which has fabulous views of Hagia Sophia and The Blue Mosque.

Disclaimer - I stay at this hotel often, simply because I transit through IST a lot, and it is next door to my favorite restaurant! The small rooms are super small, but do the trick for an over night. Its not good for business because of the size and week wifi in rooms. The larger rooms are great value for families and larger groups - the location is perfect, the room conditions are great, and everything is clean and works well. The breakfast is a little week (well, a lot week) - but will fill you up for a while. Its easy to book and honest. Beds are comfortable and there is working AC, heating and great hot water for showers. It is in the same class as a Holiday Inn Express - with a little character. I've used the spa/hammam facilities before, which are basic, but feel really nice!

Clean hotel in the middle of sultanamet

First things first - take earplugs...the hotel is very noisy at all times of day and night and sound travels... the room was small but suited our needs perfectly. The shower pressure was good but it dipped in and out of hot water. Breakfast had a lot of variety and was the typical Turkish style. Overall would recommend, but might try somewhere across the bridge near Galata Tower for our next stay.

Fantastic Hotel and great location, Me and My wife stayed six nights, it was amazing The guest relation lady ( sorry I can't remember the name ) She is so helpful and very professional and gave us first impression very good with warm welcome and smile on the face. I would like to special thank you to Zaki and his team in restaurant, During breakfast Zaki service is exceptional and look after us very well, I would say he make us more comfortable and warm welcome and very helpful for any questions we ask, he always smile that's make us more happy. Terrace Restaurant is nice and amazing view from the top and good quality of food and fast service. We both interact with many employees in the hotel and it always nice to see staff with smile. However I disappointed with 2 young staff 1 receptionist and one porter( Birol and Sohn ) one evening when I called them for sugar sachet ( Housekeeping forgot to put in the room when they clean) the male receptionist answered the phone with very rude voice and impolitely he said '' It is impossible to give you now, may be half an hour later'' but sugar sachet never delivered and when I went personally at reception he was busy chatting around with his colleagues and next day when we checked out and later came back for our luggage to pick up the same receptionist staff are hard to find our baggage and when we interact with them we can see their reaction. Not genuine smile, fake treat, not coming from heart, very rude staff. Lot to learn.

Location in old town right near Sophia Hagia & Blu

overall good hotel, strong wi-fi but only one device could connect. the street it is on is very busy and noisy at night. Location is the big advantage here for visiting everything in old town: Sophia Hagia & Blue Mosque, etc.It is a bit more expensive than other hotels. The breakfast buffet was not that good, lots of selection but nothing tasted good plus it was always packed, can't get seated during 8-9.

Couldn't ask for more

For a tourist class hotel this one fits the bill perfectly for a city break in Istanbul. Good value, friendly staff, good breakfast with lots of choice. Hotel, rooms and bathrooms very clean and maids in room daily leave it spotless. A short walk to the main tourist sites of the Sultanahmet area, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cisterni and mnay other museums. Close to Sultanahmet tram stop, which is great for getting about the city. Lots of choice of restaurants around hotel, but try to get a bit further out to sample the ones the Turks frequent. We went to a great one in Itfaiye cad. in the Fatih area near the old aquaduct called Sur Okacbasi. Delicious food. Try the Aryan yougurt drink and leave room for the delightful dessert consisting of ice cream baked in a semolina crust. Great value.

The Location is the best in my recent experience ,but that doesn't mean the hotel not good . It needs them to take care more on breakfast open buffet . Economic rooms doesn't give full privacy . Otherwise all Ok and the counter staff so kind and helpful .

nice hotel with one small issue

the hotel was nice and the stay was overall on the positive side. the staff were mostly welcoming and helpful. the brekfast and the dining facilities were excellent. the turkish bath experience is recommended.
however, we have two problems. the first is that the first reception guy tried to give us a smaller room than what we reserved and he was stubborn until we threatened to call the police.
then the room that they eventually gave us was in their old building which had a mold problem and we had some allergies, they later directly relocated us to a better room when we complained even though the hotel was nearly overbooked.
in general, and with the exception of these two problems, our stay was a positive experience.

The wireless internet connection in the room was poor. The signal came and went as it pleased. When the wireless signal did come, the connection speed was very slow. However, there is a PC near Hotel reception which individual's can use for browsing the internet.

The Pillow in the room was like a Big Boulder and my body kept itching most of the first night. However, following a discussion with reception staff the next day, a new pillow was given and the bed linen was changed so I did not have the problems I had the first night.

The breakfast was neither excellent nor poor. Compared to other hotel we stayed for some part of our trip to Istanbul, we could see a difference in standard of cooking. For example, the egg dish available for breakfast in this hotel was oily/buttery and the bread were harder compared to the other hotel we stayed. Nevertheless, there is large breakfast area and plenty of seating. A point to add is that the staff serving the breakfast kept coming to the table and removing food and kept watching when you are eating food- some guests like this but we certainly didn't.

Location is excellent, well positioned for the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia and Basillica Cistern.
Staff very welcoming and exceptionally helpful, breakfast well stocked but variety was some what limited, we had family room unfortunately the double bed room was small and the bathroom was compact to say the least.

Enjoying delicious soup with crusty bread for only £1 equivalent down a back alley.

Great Location to see the sights.

Wife and I stayed here for my 50th and was not disappointed!!
Hotel is less then 10 mins from the Blue mosque and Topkapi Palace.
Also loads of cafes and restaurants are outside it. Room was spacious and cleaned everyday, Breakfast was good and fresh, with a big variety for everyone's pallet. The hotel also had a nice roof terrace with a nice view and the food was good too
We also used their on house Turkish Bath a couple of times.
Well recommended hotel.

Worth the cost

Great location; very good breakfast; decent room. The A/C was weak, so the nights were overly warm. Our fee included a \"Turkish breakfast\" which was very good. We thought the use of the exercise room was part of our cost; it was not. The fee for the gym was excessive.
