Some staff extremely polite, while a few rude.
Breakfast hours were 8-10 am. I finished my breakfast at 10 am and went to get coffee. The staff shut the coffee machine. I asked him to let me have the coffee. His response was “we close at 10”. I told him that it’s not I was asking them to brew a fresh carafe, it’s just a machine that dispenses instant coffee. But he was inflexible and rude.

We had a good stay at Artefes Hotel in Istanbul. The hotel is very well located, within walking distance of the main historic sites. The staff were kind and helpful, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was decent for the price, and the rooftop terrace offered a pleasant view of the city. While the shower area felt a little tight and some amenities could be improved, the overall experience was positive. A solid choice for travelers looking for comfort and value in the old city.

I stayed at Artefes Hotel Old City in 4July 2025 for 5 nights. The only positive thing was its location — close to the sea and tourist sites in Sultanahmet.

Everything else was truly disappointing. The breakfast was terrible. Every single day, it was exactly the same poor-quality items. Since we couldn’t eat boiled eggs, we asked for an omelet or fried eggs, but they rudely said “we don’t have that.” The bread was dry, and some vegetables were clearly spoiled. When we complained, the staff replied, “Well, you didn’t pay for breakfast,” which was absolutely false — we had booked a room with breakfast.

The room was tiny, awkwardly designed, and the TV was mounted sideways, not even facing the bed. It was hard to move around the room without hitting the walls or the shower. The elevator was also extremely small — just for one person.

There was no real lobby — nowhere to sit, relax, or have a coffee or tea after coming in from outside. The customer service was weak and the staff had a cold and uninterested attitude. It didn’t feel like hospitality at all.

Overall, I deeply regret choosing this hotel. It’s nothing like what they advertise and I would not recommend it to anyone

A wonderful experience

About 50 minutes from the airport (~$40) by taxi. Location is very convenient, walking distance to main attractions. The hotel is very clean and conveniently located. Staff is friendly. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast is awesome and you can go upstairs to have it in the patio overlooking the water. Would definitely recommend and come back if travels bring us back there.

Very disappointed, as this hotel was rated 8.8..

We booked double bed room for 6 nights. It was quite a small room. No table,chair or luggage desk for suitcases. We couldnt lock the door from inside, it was temporarily fixed in second day. We could hear all the noise coming from the street. Shower was broken, even asked 3 times but still not fixed . Shower drainage was bloked and not fixed at all..Breakfast was very poor, no butter, no fruit were available,even asked and they wouldnt provide it for anybody...

Very Cozy and Rustic Feel Hotel.

The location of the hotel is very convenient. This hotel has breakfast included and is overall very good. The hotel staff are very friendly and courteous. Mert is an amazing host, and very friendly. If only the mattresses were comfortable I would have given it more that 5 starts. Overall, great experience staying there, and I would recommend it.

Very nice view of Sea of Marmara near entrance to the Bosporus. But noise from the bar and restaurant directly above kept me awake until 04:00. And jacuzzi bathtub advertised in the Hotels.com listing could not be used because of leaks (it appears this was a long-term problem).

Definitely a good stay at Artefes!

Excellent Value for location and accommodations. Also the staff are super helpful. The morning/day staff spoke English very well, while evening staff were less so but still very energetic to help.
The breakfast and upstairs terrace are really good, very surprised at this.
The rooms are good value.. The beds are okay, though a small update for the pillows would be much appreciated.
Cleanliness very good and again the staff... wow, really found the staff to be awesome.

Overall, I was happy with my stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the location was great and the free breakfast with a view was a plus. Three areas of improvement: I wouldn’t liked to have had a light blanket provided instead of just a sheet. The above shower head didn’t work and the handheld shower piece didn’t fit into the holder, so I had to either hold it with one hand and wash my hair with the other, or try to balance it so I could use two hands to wash my hair, but then it would always fall. Also, the TV didn’t work. I would’ve liked to have caught up on some news.

Excellent stay for cheap travelling couple

We are a couple that prioritizes a clean room and a location close to the action, and this did not disappoint! The staff were incredibly helpful in helping us organize a taxi back to the airport (which was cheaper than the bus they have available) as well as arranging a fun river cruise. Though the lock on the door was wobbly and there was a strange yellow substance around the doorframe in the washroom (it looked liked someone forgot to clean up after the renovations) overall it was perfect for our trip! Breakfast was lovely also, and was served by friendly staff. Different foods were available on different days, and it was so much fun to try different Turkish dishes.

Okay hotel, better alternatives available

Stayed here for 2 nights with family & extended family (cousins). The hotel is old, our room had a faint smoke even though they ensured us it was a non smoking room. Bearable. The shower's are very impractical as there is a shower head but its not connected to the water supply and the place to put soaps was broken in our room however the one in my cousins was not. This was the case for both rooms we booked. The location of this hotel is not great considering its in an alley way on a hill, difficult to commute to after a full day of sightseeing and shopping. By far the worst hotel management, its own by two cousins if I recall correctly. Salman, presumably the manager ensured us we can keep our luggage at the hotel for a few days and they have a luggage storage area. However on our day of checking out, the owner was at the reception and denied everything. As they dont have a luggage storage area and dont keep guests luggage. These mixed messages by the hotel management put out trip in turmoil as we needed to a place to keep our luggage somewhere safe for a few days while we toured other parts of Turkey. Anyways, the breakfast was subpar, mostly just a combination of several different appetizers not a turkish breakfast. At this price point there are why better 3 star hotels in this area.
TLDR; Old hotel, inconvenient location, meh breakfast, terrible management and service.

very good, felt safe especially with kids. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The receptionist spoke really good english which made it easier when communicating. He also gave us good advice on places to visit and transport to use and prices for those tourist attractions.
Only issue was the spa side of the hotel was closed due to covid restriction which was out of there control anyways. The hotel was near to food places, blue mosque and other tourist attractions and shops
