The facilities in the common areas (e.g., pools, lobby, restaurants, theater, etc.) were in very good condition; however, this is NOT the case for the guest rooms. The guest rooms lacked maintenance. (For example: the shower had only one door, so water splashed all over the floor outside the shower area when showering; the chrome on the bathroom faucets was worn.; one of the electrical outlet covers in the room was loose, and when I unplugged the cell phone chargers, the cover came off, leaving a hole in the wall; the shower gel and conditioner dispensers were loose, and one of them fell to the floor when I tried to use the gel; we asked the housekeeping staff to refill the dispenser because it was empty, but they never did; the air conditioning vent grille was loose all over; it looked like it was going to fall off at any moment; the door handle in one of the rooms was loose and fell off completely; we had to call to have it repaired; one of the curtains was partially torn at the top; the window in one of the rooms had shattered glass.... the mini-bar fridge sometimes dripped water...

This is a good value for your money.
The beach is GORGEOUS, the pool immense (although the floors tiles are chipped and missing pretty much everywhere).
All the pool loungers are gone before 9 am but rude/inconsiderate people that just drop their towels and never show up all day: very frustrating, management should monitor and enforce some rules on reserving them.

The food is very average, the specialty restaurants are hard to book and really mediocre, especially the Coral and steakhouse. The sushi/hibachi is not the best food wise, but the hibachi experience is really fun (especially for kids). The Spanish restaurant - la Fuente - is probably the best of them, but again, reservations are really hard to get and the waits at concierge are ridiculous. The buffet food is REALLY stale and mediocre, there's a huge selection but it's actually the same stuff over and over, the breads and any bakery items are very stale.
The lines to secure a table are brutal at peak times.

The staff is friendly and the SPA massages are an absolute must!
The disco club is a stunning venue, but they only play the same 5 reggaeton songs on repeat all day every day, so if you aren't a reggaeton fanatic, it's meh.
The night time shows in the theatre are really well made, kudos to the production.
The activities staff is really great in general!
BEWARE: the \"convenience\" store has absurd prices. 20$ for a SMALL sunscreen tube, 35$ for a 12 pack of diapers..
All in all, we would return again.

Resort looks glamorous but you’ll find out soon that there’s no sound proofing in between each suite. And you wake up at 2 am in the morning with the sound of your neighbors coming home from their party, or at 5am to the sound of people waking up for their early flight. Or at 8 am with people having casual conversations in the covered walkway. You head to the buffet and there’s lots of food selection, most of them, not labeled, so you choose only what you are familiar with. You approach the server for cutlery coz no one is approaching you and pull out your language translation app because they’re trying to talk to you in Spanish and you couldn’t understand. The only good service I had was when I gave tip at the start of my meal. The fountain pop at the buffet tastes like chlorine. The Santa Fe took about an hour to get 2 pieces of steak served. The Coral we had to walk out after waiting for 20 minutes and no server to take our order. The Kyoto, we didn’t attend because there was a line up of 12 people ahead of us. Pool is cold! The only things I liked about this resort are the interior design, the room cleaners and minibar stockers, the presence of indoor shops, the strykers bar, the italian restaurant, the calm water at the beach, the turtles, on site pharmacy, pirates water park, the shuttle train and expensive golf. Everything else is SUB PAR including both buffets and some of the restaurants, check in, night shows, driving range and most especially service :(

Had to change hotel room first day as it was 4:30 pm and the room wasn't turned over yet , there was ainenance with a ladder obstructing my view when I got there, plus it had a very musty/moldy smell. Food on the palace side was not good but great on the adults only side. Drinks were just OK, except for the chocolate martinis which were great. No free shuttle to the front gate have to hire a taxi to drive you 5 minutes to the gate. Staff barely understood anything I asked in English. The safe in my second room didn't work. I had no wash cloths in the second room. Had no idea where to hang garment to use the steamer, property isn't very well lit on the beach side at night. I did like that security came and quieted the noisy spring break neighbors yelling and talking loud at 2 am.

This resort has something for everyone from all sorts of water crafts , bowling, pickleball, ping pong, nightly shows such as Michael Jackson and Madonna tribute and karaoke nights, spa and good size casino, mini golf, kiddie water park and driving range. In addition to 2 buffets, there were 4-6 sit down restaurants . The French restaurant was our favorite .

Worst vacation I’ve ever been on. First you Expedia put me at an airport 2 hours away and it cost me $175 each way so a total of $350 that I didn’t have budgeted in. When I got there there were very few people that spoke or understood English well so we had to figure out a lot of things on our own. When we went to the restaurants I even had problems asking for ketchup. I will never go back and I’m not sure if I’ll ever use Expedia again!!!

We spent a week at Barcelo Barbara Palace. The service was excellent. The staff were all very friendly. The food was excellent and there was a ride variety of all types of dishes for Young and Old that you could choose from. The resort is big but well organized so it doesn’t take much to get from one area to another. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a terrific getaway for families or groups of adults.

The Barcelo is amazing & beautiful, well manicured on picturesque Bavaro beach! All the amenities you want. The staff are all very friendly; but I suggest you brush up on your Spanish, as most don’t speak english fluently. All the food we had in the multiple restaurants and buffets was very good. The drinks were great; not watered down. There’s room for improvement on cleanliness (sand in the pools, and empty cups laying around; but not terrible.
Rooms were in good shape, bed was very comfortable.

We have 6 days at the resorts. With all family and friend. The resorts is big and nice. The beachfront area is excellent. And the server at the buffet are very nice specially Onelia Guerrero she’s friendly helpful and supper nice. It’s would be perfect if the reception and the doorman is more helpful and professional, I think should have better training . All the room clean but the shower is smell from the sewers not done properly .

The resort was very loud and crowded. The resort was poorly maintained. Several toilets were broken and didn’t flush properly. The pool had several loose and missing tiles on the bottom.

We were unable to get dinner reservations earlier than 9PM in the sit down restaurants. The buffet dishes were poorly labeled. The food in general was not the best.

Overall, it was good stay. Amenities, clean facility. But our room was toooooooo far from beach, pool & restaurants. We asked if we can get a closer room, specially we are senior citizens, and we can’t walk all this distance every day, and we are willing to pay extra for upgrades if needed, but a rude front desk manager refused saying that you get what your agent reserved for you!!!!!!!!. That was very strange and disappointing. He should respect elders and offer assistance to seniors.

Beautiful grounds, good buffet food with so many desserts, but also many table-service restaurants of different cuisines. The Good:
The resort really shines when it comes to family-friendly amenities. The water parks, splash areas, and kid-focused activities were truly great—our kids had a blast. If you’re looking for a place where children are entertained all day, this resort does deliver.

The Not-So-Good:
The food was consistently mediocre across the board. Nothing was terrible, but nothing stood out either, and a lot of the meals felt repetitive. What made it worse is that you absolutely need to make reservations for most restaurants well in advance, even though that isn’t emphasized on the website. Without them, you’re pretty much stuck with the buffet, which wasn’t great to begin with.

Service was hit or miss. Many of the servers seemed bothered or rushed, and there was a clear expectation for tips—even for basic service—which made the “all-inclusive” feel not so inclusive.

Cleanliness was another issue. The resort wasn’t dirty, but it definitely wasn’t as clean as you would hope for the price. Certain areas felt like they needed more frequent maintenance.

Lastly, the pool vibe was disappointing. There was no music at most of the pools, so the atmosphere felt flat unless you happened to be in one specific spot where they actually played music.

Overall:
If you’re traveling with young kids and prioritizing water parks and family activities, this resort might work for you. But if you care about great food, strong service, and a lively atmosphere, this probably isn’t the best choice.

Upon first glance, the room is beautiful, however the toilet didnt;t flush, the telephone literally fell from the wall and left a hole, the safe didn't work, there was a dirty bandaid left in the jacuzzi on the balcony, and the coffee maker did not work.
Every thing else was lovely, the food, the staff, the grounds. I would like to revisit, but maybe a different room

The layout of our family room was perfect for my brother and I. The staff kept everything spotless, fresh towels, soaps, etc. The only thing, our hairdryer didn't work and although alerted to front desk, no one came to repair. The buffet food was pretty good, bit the restaurants food was lacking, mediocre and not on par with the caliber of service in the restaurant. The outdoor spaces, pools, beach were all super clean as were the public bathrooms. We didn't take in any entertainment as it was offered too late in the evening. Overall, a good experience and would stay again if visiting Punta Cana.

The hotel has a strong reputation, so our expectations were understandably high. Unfortunately, there were significant issues that prevent me from giving it a 5-star rating.

1) The Smell – Buffet Restaurant
The sewage smell inside the main buffet restaurant was unbearable. This is not a minor issue — it is a place where guests eat breakfast and lunch daily. I was fortunate to have Premium access, which allowed us to dine on the first floor and outdoors, avoiding most of the problem. However, I find it difficult to understand how a property of this caliber can allow such a persistent odor in a primary dining area.

2) The Staff
Service was inconsistent and often disappointing. A large portion of the staff appeared disengaged or inattentive. Service was slow, and basic requests — such as ordering an orange juice — would either take an excessive amount of time or never arrive at all. This happened repeatedly during both breakfast and lunch. For a resort that markets itself as high-end, the level of attentiveness simply did not meet expectations.

On a positive note, the infrastructure itself is solid. The property offers good food, beverages, activities for children, and enjoyable beach options. From a facilities standpoint, it has everything needed for a pleasant stay.

Overall, we had an “OK” experience, but given the issues mentioned above, I am not certain we would return.

Biggest issue is nobody speaks English. They speak to you in Spanish and expect you to know what they are saying. Most people were nice. Buffet. Is limited and it wasnt great but restaurants were good. Premium is well worth the extra expense. It’s nice for younger kids. It was a nice place but my expectations were low. No elevators and limited transportation for such a large resort. Unless you wake up at the crack of dawn and get towels the day before, they don’t open till 10, no seats past 8. Good luck at the beach. Barely anything. We went early Feb so it shouldn’t have been busy. Was packed with guests from Spain. Was ok but wouldn’t be my top choice.

The room was clean, but the furniture did look a little old worn out. I don’t like how the bathroom is set up, but that’s my preference. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Pool area was very nice. Does get congested because there’s so many people, but it is very nice. Food was not very good. Our light on the balcony was out the entire time we were there for four nights. We did ask to have a replace, but it never got done. We also had some bugs that came the last night that we were there. They came early in the morning and spray to try to kill them. I hope it worked.

The grounds are beautiful/kept immaculate.
The beach is lovely, there are lifeguards and security which is great.

The food is the downfall of the resort. Breakfast is good, but the lunches and specifically dinners, are poor. The Italian restaurant isn’t really Italian, for example and much of it was inedible. The Japanese restaurant, Kyoto, they use the same utensils to cook the vegetables and all of the raw meats. They all do it, not just one station. They’re not trained nor heard about cross-contamination. This happened both nights we were there AND was happening when we were there pre-COVID.

The food servers are good, keep things cleared and attention to customers is solid. The language challenge of not speaking more English affects service/food not arriving as requested/required.

Our Customer Service experience was very poor. We asked repeatedly to speak to the Director - Cesar and instead got several gatekeepers. This certainly didn’t help to resolve our issue and has left a poor experience overall (the room shower drain flooded, the air conditioner wasn’t working well, we were constantly calling housekeeping for missing items - including no bedding for the family bed, no water, the safe constantly not working and more). These things take time to mess with and affect one’s stay. My mobility and my friend’s mobility are challenged. We told them at the Reception check in that we needed to be close to restaurants. We were put in the farthest building!!! Painful.

The room was dirty. There were little roaches and spiders everywhere. The food was not edible. I didn’t eat for 2 days during my stay there; except for toast and water. On the 3rd day I finally ate at the Japanese restaurant; however, that night and the next morning my stomach was in so much pain. The staff were rude and looked miserable working there. My mom asked for Orange Juice one morning and the staff told her that Orange Juice is not served in the morning, it’s served in the afternoon for lunch. That seemed like a very odd response. Needless to say we will NEVER go to this resort again!!

The room was in fairly good condition, but smelled quite musty and the AC didn’t seem to cool it down adequately. Staff was friendly and helpful even when we couldn’t speak their language - always were able to make it work. The room was not new but it was nice. The TV and the hair dryer weren't working at first. They fixed the TV there was more of learning how to use it. And the hair dryer you needed to pull the trigger like a gun, but it worked fine after that. The beach was fantastic the pool and drinks were very good, the food was acceptable. The Japanese and Mexican restaurants were the best. We came for the golf and we enjoyed the golf thoroughly. Thank you too Jose Bautista who helped us out.

My haband and I would have preferred a room with a blacony as i requested when I made the reservation. The room we were registered to was ocean front with garden. It was big, beautiful but dusty. The telephone, side table, bathroom and closets were all dusty. Its seemed like the room was not used in months. There were no snacks available or tea (not everyone is a coffee drinker).
The restaurants were clean but when it came to food, it was 50/50. The Mexican restaurant, all meats were delicious but the tamales, discusting. Please remove from menu. Its a total disrespect to the mexican cuisine. The seafood restaurant need more options for example fish and chip for the European tourists or a paella for the Spanish/ South Americans. You can add griled Octopus or squid as an appitizer. We ordered the black spaghetti but it was too salty. The crispy muscle were crispy but dry amd chewy. The food at the Spaniard restaurant was delicious, the staff was also great. The buffet had a large selection of food but it was lacking traditional Domincan food. Tourists, especially the spanish speaking tourists would love to eat tradicional Domincan 🇩🇴 food.
Beach was clean and beautiful but it would be great for some drink service or and open grill with some basic finger food for all the beach lovers. There should be a rule where no one should be able to hold beach recliners. I saw people drop there belonging on the beach recliners at 9am, leave and not come back till midday. Recommend 50/50.

The whole experience was not what it should have been or could have been. All started with the wrong room and dellaling with a supervisor that claimed he was going to make things right. The staff was not friendly and the food was less than average compaired to other places. I would tell anyone who asked to not go there and just save your money and go to a different resort.
