It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great. Only 20min from the airport. Overall the property is upkept and nice. Pools and beach are great. At check-in we were given rooms keys that didn’t work and then we were given keys to someone else’s room who we walked in on. Front desk was unapologetic and we got nothing in return. Food lacks in quality but that’s kind of normal in D.R.? Our flights got moved for departure and transportation service that was booked through Expedia canceled on us and didn’t pick us up. We had to get a taxi. I think I would stay here again for the right deal.

Everything about this resort was top notch. The premier package was such a great deal- the food, drinks, activities, and space was all worth it. We had friends over on the palace side (for families) and it was also amazing to have access to the amenities there. You never have to leave the resort unless you want to do an excursion, but they’ll pick you up in the lobby!!! Can’t say enough good things about this trip. And for sure get a shuttle/ride from the airport to resort and back and give yourself at least 3 hours!

Really enjoyed the stay but do wish the food places were indoor, all of the buffet were outside technically just under a roof with fans and it was very humid and hot. With that said, the activities were amazing, the beach was stunning, and I overall enjoyed. The casino and night club btw are some of the best I’ve seen as far as resorts go! Very good size for both and both lively with many people

The rooms need a serious cleaning and upgrade. I was told I was in a Premium room; however, nothing in the room felt or looked premium. The refrigerator leaked water all over the floor, and the bathroom toilet leaked onto the floor, which constantly smelled like sewage. On two occasions, after my room was supposedly cleaned, I came back to find small black bugs crawling on the sheeting and top cover. From the looks, this resort is way older than the nearby sister property, the Palace, which I had the opportunity to explore.

I have a lot of compassion for service workers but this was a next level bad service. Cleaning rooms consists of making a bed and changing towels. Spider webs and dust we found at arrival were still there after 10 days. Drinks are awful, coke turns into clear liquid after 5 minutes, cocktails are so full of sweet syrup that are undrinkable. Service - tried to organize bday/50th anniversary dinner, took 3 times of “you’re not in the system”. No promised cake. 2 different tables. No water left in the room - 3 trips to guest services. Confirmed transportation in person at their office (destination services) - didn’t show up for pick up; “you’re not in the system” again!! Almost been late to the flight. Horrible!

The staff was absolutely stellar, and the property was breathtaking! My room was not very clean when I first arrived with my pillows lacking pillow cases, and there was an odd smell which I believe may have just been their cleaning products. However, these things were quickly remedied and everyone was more than helpful!

The buffet option was my favorite out of all of the dining options. Be sure to make your reservations for all the others, as they fill up fast!

No me gusto el trato que dan en el hotel. El hotel es super aburrido, luego de las 11pm no hay donde tomar o comer. Para ir a la disco, gym o buenos restaurantes, tienes que tomar un tren que en ocasiones tarda mas de 35 minutos en llagar al Bávaro Place. No puedes tener tu propia musica ni estar sin camisas (hombres) aunque sean areas abiertas y a pasos de la piscina. La comida del buffet no es la mejor, es repetitiva y no hay buenas opciones. Si lo que estas buscando es algo tranquilo para ir a dormir te lo recomiendo, de lo contrario te vas aburrir y no te gustara la experiencia como en mi caso.

THE FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. JUST DISGUSTING THAT I WAS SO EXCITED TO COME HOME AND COOK FOOD. We got there the first day. Ate at the barissa stay away from that restaurant on the resort the food was so bad that I wouldn’t feed that to my worst enemy. Then started eating at the caribbe everything is uncovered. Every single dish has either minced deli meat. The food is extremely low quality and even the bread tasted like it was there for months it was so stale. I cannot express you how bad the food was. To top it off there was roaches walking on the floor. Then on our last day, we decided to pay to go to Kyoto the sushi house on the other resort wow I cannot tell you how awful that was, the rice was so extremely mushy and the calamari was full of tendons and it was pulley and so chewy I can’t explain how bad it was. I was so grossed out. Come on Dominican this is embarrassing. How is this resort serving rice like this. The food was so low quality!!!!!
Been to Jamaica Negril or Montego so many times. Everything is covered. Everything is sanitary at so many resorts there. Their rice is on point. They have so many amazing foods with flavour and sauces that they cook in front of you. Dominican the food was horrific, low quality. It’s unfortunate because a lot of people around us were complaining at these restaurants. How bad the food was.

From the moment we arrived, the staff made it clear we were an inconvenience. Basic requests were met with attitude, indifference, or flat-out ignored. Something as simple as getting a towel card turned into a battle — a request that should take seconds. You should never feel like a bother at a resort you paid good money to enjoy.

For an adult-only resort, the energy was shockingly nonexistent. No music. No vibe. No life. The silence was almost eerie — nothing about it felt like a vacation, let alone a premium getaway. An adult resort without atmosphere is just an expensive place to sit quietly.

FOOD & DINING
The food was a major letdown. We're in the Dominican Republic — one of the most flavorful culinary cultures in the Caribbean — and not a single authentic Dominican dish was in sight. Instead, we were served tired, generic American-style food that looked and tasted like it had been recycled throughout the week. No freshness, no local flavor, no effort.

Everything felt worn and dated. The property had clearly seen better days, and maintenance appeared to be an afterthought. For the price point of an all-inclusive resort, the overall condition was well below acceptable standards.

The staff was nice, except one person at the check in desk, who was outright rude.
Also, 2 ladies at the Gift Shop were extremely inattentive - they couldn`t have cared less for any customers in the store.

El staff en general muy atento , amables y serviciales pero algunos les faltaba más entusiasmo y disponibilidad en su servicio .
Recomendación mejorar las actividades recreativas , y de participación . Realizar más shows de entretenimiento en el propio hotel , que es solo para Adultos , , y debíamos trasladarnos al otro hotel , para asistir a la Disco o al Cassino .
Por lo general una estadía espectacular e inolvidable !

The place overall is ok , I would just advice the staff to engage more with guest , they walk pass you and not even a good morning. I also would have liked to have seen some staff entertainment, I have stayed at other resorts and have experienced a lot of staff engagement. I get it it’s an adults only resort but does not mean you don’t enjoy entertainment not even music made it very boring. Food can also benefit from some change it was the same thing all 6 days we stayed not a good variety at all. Honestly don’t think I would repeat a stay , not a place for me!!

3 Star Experience for 5 Star Price
Beautiful beach and resort grounds, but overall this felt much closer to a 3-star experience than true 5-star luxury.

The positives: the beach is gorgeous, the property is tropical and well maintained, rooms were clean and comfortable, Staff were generally friendly despite limited English, and Richard Avelino at Santa Fe provided some of the best service we experienced anywhere on the resort.

The negatives were mostly organization and service related. The resort is massive and very easy to get lost in. Maps are poor and the train system desperately needs clearer signage. Restaurant reservations were frustrating — many restaurants were booked immediately or only available very late, even during a 9-day stay. The system feels outdated for a “luxury” resort.

Food was hit-or-miss. Some buffet items were undercooked or poorly prepared, or simply RAW and breakfast service was consistently slow and understaffed. Bar service was inconsistent as bartenders were sometimes distracted or slow to serve guests.

The “all inclusive” advertising also felt misleading since several restaurants required additional payment. Dress shorts were not allowed at some restaurants requiring pants, which felt excessive in the heat.

Overall, we still enjoyed the vacation because the beach and scenery are beautiful, but the hospitality and organization did not match 5-star expectations.

The gym facility did not have enough equipment. Very crowded early in the morning opens at 8 AM. Food was very poor quality almost seemed like they used food from the day before for lunch at the buffet. Staff is fantastic Maria that works at the buffet provides excellent service to all vacationers. They need more music at the beach and around the pool entertainment was fair. Will probably try a different resort next year. Being a repeat customer, they place us in a building furthest from all the amenities not too happy with that.

Location, common areas, and beach were all very nice. The food was not good, which we had heard before going but figured it couldn't be that bad, it was worse. The rooms were spacious but outdated and not the cleanest. All the bathrooms in the rooms and common areas were dirty and smelled, with the worst being the pool bathroom that was overflowing onto the floor. Hello, this review is coming from someone who is currently on the barcelo beach resort. Let me start off by saying I’ve been to a lot of resorts and yes some of the time some things don’t go the vacationers way, I get it. With that let me go ahead and say this is by FAR THE WORSE RESORT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO IN MY LIFE. The service here has been just absolutely awful, just awful. The staff has been awful and very rude. The food has probably found a way to be even worse than the service. Every single time I’ve ate something that’s not literally bread or rice I get food poisoning (I’ve been sick this whole trip). I will never go back to this resort ever and I advise everyone to stay as far away as possible from this resort unless you want to be sick or deal with awful support staff. I am extremely disappointed in this resort and this is not what anyone deserves after spending their hard earned money to go away on vacation. I was also just locked out of my room for an hour because my card stop working due to the batteries in the door being old. This has been just terrible. Lastly, according to the legitimate manager of the resort leaving a bad review is a threat. I highly suggest they do better then that guy. The phone in our room was never even plugged in, on several occasions I was told someone would come fix it, nobody showed up.

I recently stayed at Barceló Bávaro Beach - Adults Only - All Inclusive, and overall the experience was disappointing.
Service was poor—most staff seemed disengaged, especially considering I paid extra for premium service. The food was largely underwhelming, with the exception of La Comedie, where both the food and service were excellent.
Premium status did not feel worthwhile. Our room phone didn’t work, and despite multiple requests, it took 3 days to fix. Being told to order room service from the front desk defeated the purpose. We also repeatedly received only two towels for four guests.
Rooms on the adults-only side are very outdated. We also had a roach, which we understand can happen, but still added to the experience.
At one restaurant, a child vomited on the floor. Despite multiple requests for help, no staff assisted for 15–20 minutes. When someone finally responded, they used paper towels and a broom with no disinfectant—raising sanitation concerns.
It was also odd that the only swim-up bar, better restaurants, and premier entertainment/shopping were on the Palace (family) side.
Overall, this resort did not meet expectations, and I would not return. (I wish comment section allowed more characters)

Was here for 5 day stay recently and the grounds are very nice. Pools are great and the beach area is very nice. This is our second stay here. Last time was with our daughters so we stayed in the family duplex which was a very good set up for 4 people. This trip was just another couple along with my wife and me. We stayed at adults only side thinking would be more laid back without as many kids running around. The food is ok. I had been to several all inclusive resorts though to be fair and you don’t go all
Inclusive if you are looking for a great culinary experience. It’s ok, we aren’t overly picky eaters so always found something. The biggest disappointment was in our rooms. We had premium level rooms but they were badly dated and not very clean at all. Bathrooms without walk in showers in an adults only resort seems odd. We are true believers that you aren’t ever in the room much when on a tropical vacation so we dealt with it. Would love to stay on adults

We just returned from a 7 day stay at Barcelo Bavero Beach. It is a beautiful resort that has nice pools and a beautiful beach that runs the length of the property. The beach and paths are well maintained and lovely for walking between the Palace and Adults only. Water sports are easily accessible and they did an excellent job at maintaining beach! The buffets had great selection and very fresh. A la carts ok, Mexican was great ! Staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, we felt entertainment was weak. The venue was beautiful but under utilized. Having the shows start earlier than 10 pm we think is better planning. We loved the resort and would definitely return.

We stayed at the Barcelo bavro beach adult resort. Our room was very very much outdated. Bath room tiles were plaster terrible and it felt that we were staying in a room dated back in the 1990s. Staff were not friendly. It seems that they didn't really want to be there working. I.am a New Yorker and I tip very handsomely and it didn't make a difference with service. For some reason, they cater to the European which I witnessed they didn't tip at ALL. Food was very terrible and very cold when served.

Maria at adults only buffet was the happiest worker by far! Bartenders seemed unfriendly and crabby. Beach was beautiful! Turtles absolutely gorgeous! Pool lacked entertainment. A little music would go a long way. Having to pay for some restaurants if not premium was a disappointment at an all inclusive. Liked the little feel of adults only, just wish they had a more couple restaurant options without going to palace. The bathtub showers really need to be upgraded.

My stay at Barceló Bávaro Beach – Adults Only All-Inclusive Resort was an exceptional experience from start to finish. What stood out immediately was the genuine warmth of the staff—their smiles, friendliness, and professionalism truly made me feel welcome throughout my entire stay.

The beach is absolutely unforgettable: pristine, well-maintained, and with a strong sense of security that allows you to fully relax and enjoy the surroundings. It’s the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave.

One of the highlights was the incredible variety of food options. The buffet restaurants, including Caribe, La Brisa, and Santa Fe, offered an impressive selection with something for every taste, and the quality was consistently excellent.

I also appreciated how convenient everything was. With lounge bars, pool bars, theater bars, sports bars, lobby bars, and coffee spots all located throughout the resort, there was always a great place nearby to relax, grab a drink, or socialize.

Overall, this resort delivers a well-rounded, enjoyable experience that I would highly recommend. It’s truly a must-visit destination for anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable adults-only getaway.
