Unbelievable stay! We did the First Light Experience with breakfast and it was one of the most memorable things we have ever done! The staff were truly outstanding and went out of their way to ensure we were well taken care of. Yes, it is alot of money to stay at this resort, but it was truly a once in a lifetime experience!

Staff is amazing but too much, overwhelming most of the time.

Entrance to the Machu Picchu park is limited to the same times as the masses of tourists which diminishes the value of staying up at this lodge significantly.

The Sanctuary Lodge is a gem in the entrance of Machu Picchu. Every staff member we met was exceptionally warm, treating us like their family. We were especially impressed by Juan Manuel, Wilmar, Alexander, and Zaraí. Additionally, incredible demonstrations of Peruvian culture by Karen and Gabriel. We really felt taken care of here. Not only was the attention by staff excellent, but the space is beautiful with an incredible garden, lovely rooms, and the food was unbelievable (notable mention to Chef Daniel).

We cannot recommend this hotel and its people more!

The staff at the Sanctuary by Belmond were extraordinary in their efforts to make us feel at home and cared for. One of our party lost a wallet on the grounds and they made every effort to help us find it. The front desk were especially accommodating in assisting us book bus tickets and entry tickets to Machu Picchu. Thumbs up!

Literally across the street from the entrance to Manchu Pinchu- couldn’t be closer. Allowed us to see MP late afternoon on the day we arrived and early morning on the day we departed - two totally different experiences. Staff was lovely. Standouts were Chef Daniel, Alex, and Edy in the restaurant.
Expensive, but if you are only visiting MP once in your lifetime, this hotel offers convenience that you can’t find elsewhere. Thank you for a great stay.

Perfect way to see Machu Picchu

A very beautiful hotel with excellent location. The location and ease alone access made it worth it. The hotel staff greeted us at the train station and helped us with our bus tickets and luggage. We received a room upgrade when we arrived, the room was well decorated and clean.
The restaurant was good and our lunch, dinner and breakfast were included. However the service in the restaurant was a bit slow.
When you check out and leave Machu Picchu the hotel gives you access to showers even if you have checked out. Very nice detail we greatly appreciated

This is my third time in Machu Picchu and this time I decided to stay at the Sanctuary Lodge Belmond Hotel with my daughter. It was one of the most beautiful experience we have ever had. The staff’s service, kindness, and anticipation of all our needs -from our arrival at the train station at Machu Picchu Pueblo to our departure with the bus- showed the high level of training of everyone involved. John picked us up at the train station and counseled us about the best way to visit the Sacred City. We loved the check-in at the scenic terrace with Manuel, our meals at their amazing restaurant and the service and conversation with Issai. He gave us \"Chapo”, a delicious traditional beverage made of banana and cinnamon. After visiting the archeological site and climbing Waynapicchu, we were welcomed by superb relaxing massage. The gorgeous property has tiered terraces to watch the sunrise from and a magical orchid garden with a waterfall that were so inspiring. The whole team made our stay one of the most beautiful experiences in our lives and we truly enjoyed Machu Picchu in a totally different way. I highly, highly, highly recommend the Sanctuary Lodge. Congratulations to its team.

Excellent staff + spot made for an amazing time!

Our stay at Sanctuary was perfect. I planned our Peru trip as a DIYer. I like choosing where I am and for what length of time, and where I splurge and where I save. To say that our stay at Sanctuary was excellent value sounds hard to believe, but it's the thought that keeps coming to mind. The property itself is beautiful, well-appointed, suited gorgeously to its site... the common spaces, the restaurant, the grounds are all excellent and very welcoming. The access to Machu Picchu is unparalleled. Staying at Sanctuary made our 6:00am circuit easy and gave us a base after a full morning before we re-entered the site for the afternoon.
What really stands out though is the people. Alex, a member of the concierge team, was the first person that I spoke to on property. For a month he would check in as we discussed the various Machu Picchu circuits, whether and when a guide would be helpful, the timing of our Vistadome trains, bus tickets from Aguas Calientes, etc. Seeing Machu Picchu was the dream and having Alex as our wing-man gave us complete peace of mind that it would come together perfectly. The fact that he was waiting to greet us when our bus pulled in, and was the last person to see us off when we departed meant so much. He oversaw every detail of our stay and went way above and beyond to make it a lifetime memory. We are so grateful for his attention, skill and heart. Also of special note are Karen (concierge), Freddy (bartender extraordinaire), John + Diego (transfers).

Location, location, location! This property is right next to the entrance to Machu Picchu which was wonderful for a 6am entrance time and we were the first ones climbing Huayna Picchu Mountain which was magnificent! But it's not just the location. This luxury hotel has a wonderful staff and in particular, the bar staff were so much fun showing us how to make local drinks and doing some taste testing. Loved it all!

Relaxing and convenient.

Great place to splurge for a night. We ended up having an \"all inclusive\" experience. (Food and drink.) Which helped make it feel more \"worth it\". At the end of the day it is a lot of money for one night, and I bet you could do pretty well in Aguas Calientes for a fraction of the cost and the only real difference is you've gotta take a 20 min bus ride up to Machu Picchu. All that said, the hotel is nice, the staff were wonderful and it was comfortable and clean. It's really up to the individual as to whether or not it's \"worth it.\"

Amazing hotel with an unbeatable location. The service was brilliant with Sebastian and John being so welcoming on arrival at the train station and helpful on departure including assisting me with gifts from the market. I was unexpectedly provided with free champagne and chocolates as a welcome gift.

The room was fantastic with a very comfortable bed.

The breakfast experience on the terrace with the sound of the waterfalls and a clear view of Machu Picchu was a once in a lifetime experience.

Spent a night here after the 4 Day Inka trail to give ourselves the opportunity to return to MP in the afternoon for sunset and again early next morning for sunrise. The room was excellent but the food and service were impeccable. Worth every penny especially with full boarding included. We enjoyed being pampered for a day at the end of the long hike.

Hands down the best way to do Machu Picchu. From John and Alex helping coordinate pickup and transportation to the lodge, to Orlando’s warm welcome at check-in, to Victor’s excellent service at the bar and restaurant, everyone at Sanctuary Lodge went above and beyond to provide unparalleled service. The views, property grounds, food and drinks, service and accommodations are all 5 stars. Access to the Bellond lounge at Aguas Caliente train station was also very useful after Machu Picchu trek and checking out. Overall it was worth every penny and a memorable experience to stay at Sanctuary Lodge!

Stay of a Lifetime

The most beautiful hotel you could ever imagine! There is no other setting like this in the world, so why would you stay anywhere else when you take a trip to Machu Picchu? The staff make every effort to make sure you are taken care of. They truly deliver first-class service at the Sanctuary Lodge. Bruno was such a pleasure to work with. The rooms are quite comfortable and the views from the hotel grounds are stunning. The food at the restaurant is fantastic. We loved that they had changing rooms for guests to take a shower and change clothes for the train even after checking out. I would recommend a stay here a thousand times over. This may be a once in a lifetime traveling experience, so making a reservation here is a must!

First of all this hotel was so bad that I did not even get to stay in it. I made reservations three months in advance and the last day before flying out to Peru I get a message that my reservation has been cancel.

To this day I do not know what happen and why my reservation was cancel. No one was able to help me out and I ended up staying in a different hotel at no fault of mine. Bad service bad communication bad everything. Don’t book here they will cancel your res.

The hotel is right next to the entrance to Machu Picchu and the service is top notch. If requested they will meet you when you get off the train to collect your luggage and take you to the bus ride location. You will have to pre-pay for the bus ride but they do take care of everything else. The property grounds are very well thought out and taken care of. Take time to walk around their garden area. It is beautiful. The restaurant food is good but expensive. Service by all staff is the very best. Upon leaving they tag your luaggage and have it ready for you and meet you right before you board the train ride home. Our only miscommuncation is where exactly at the train station you get your luggage. No one at the train station knew anything. But dont worry because right before you are ready to step foot on that train a guy in the white shirt , from the Belmond, is right there with your luggage ready to it up those steps for you. So dont panic or waste your time going to look for him or your luggage and enjoy your time in Agua Caliente shopping or having lunch.

Amazing property and once in a lifetime experience

Absolutely beautiful property, once in a lifetime experience.. The staff was amazing in assisting and helping us to purchase our bus tickets to hotel and tickets to machu picchu. The tour to Machu Piccu we booked with this hotel was great as well (Darcy was our tour guide) ; they also have a terrace with hummingbirds flying around, its just great experience for bird watchers and photographers. The food and service were top notch, every detail was thought through. It is definately worth the money. We stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights and it was raining for last 1.5 days but we had amazing experience anyway because we had 3 days! Thats defibately the way to do it

Go so you can be first into Machu in the morning

It’s nice but there are very few amenities. The reason to stay here is to have early and easy access to Machu Picchu. It’s very comfortable and the food is great. The Pisco class was fun.

Absolutely fabulous hotel- Must stay 2 nights!

What an unbelievable way to visit Machu Picchu! The Belmond is an incredible hotel and well worth the splurge. Staying 2 nights was so worth it and I would encourage others to do this. Our room was lovely and very comfortable, the food was absolutely fabulous (and we are big foodies) and the staff was just the best. We spent so much time talking to them and learning about their lives, families, Peru, - it was an education- not a tourist visit to a site you check off your bucket list. I loved that the food and drinks were included in the cost because it made us try new things that were recommended. The pisco tasting in the evening was really fun and we ended up meeting a great couple that we hung out with after dinner. That is such a great part of traveling- meeting people and building life long friendships. The type of people at the Belmond Sanctuary lodge were very friendly, outgoing, interesting, and diverse. It was the perfect combination. I highly recommend getting a guide for your visit to MP. Our guide Beltran was incredible and the hotel arranged everything. He not only was very informative, witty, and interesting, he was also crucial to my husband getting up and down all the narrow steps and walking trails! My husband swears he would not have been able to navigate and complete our visit without his help. Our visit to Machu Picchu was fabulous but the Belmond Sactuary Lodge made it just so much more special, less rushed, and much more pampered.

Best decision ever

I stay at a ton of hotels from decent to very high end thanks to work, and I have to say this was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. It was also the most I’ve ever personally spent on a hotel stay, but it was absolutely worth it. The two nights there took my entire Machu Picchu experience to the next level. From being upgraded to a room that looked out on waynapicchu, to the impeccable service of bartender Antonio (and the rest of the staff), to the private shower rooms I was able to use after checking out and hiking to the gran caverna in the rain, I would (and will) pay for it again in a heartbeat. The first night I arrived, the food was fantastic, the drinks were strong, and obviously everyone was excited to be there. The service staff matched the energy and were very good conversationalists. The next day breakfast in my room was served right on time, and exactly as ordered. After summiting montaña Machu Picchu, the spa services were exactly what I needed, and did not disappoint. Walking past the line of people waiting for a bus down to aguas caliente, and heading straight into my room and take a shower was the best feeling! After the last buses leave the hotel has a pisco lesson and tasting, and that was a fun way to spend the evening with other hotel guests. They even have a baggage service to deliver your bags to the train station when you leave, so you can enjoy the bus ride down and not struggle with luggage in town. The rooms are not huge but well appointed

Highly recommend staying there a night or two if you are exploring the area. Hotel is at the top of the hill and a lot closer (25 to 30 minute bus ride) that others. The all inclusive was amazing and we would love to come back.

Located at the entrance to Machu Picchu this hotel is a 30 minute drive or 90 minute walk closer than other hotels. You get to experience the calmness of the area before the chaotic lines start. Food was excellent and the service superb. We stayed 2 nights and got to enjoy the spa and the orchid walk as well as hike up Wayna Picchu. Special location and worth it.

Perfect way to visit Machu Picchu

Perfect in every way. Do not be put off by the price. If you are traveling to Machu Picchu stay here the night before and get a 6am entry. If I go again I'll stay 2 nights but after all the hassle of getting there it is really nice to be able to have a drink & dinner in the hotel the night before you visit. And best of all after your tour of the ruin, returning to the Lodge for a shower & lunch.

Do not hesitate, book the Lodge.

Having a first class hotel just steps from Machu Picchu was wonderful. We were able to take the time to visit the site in the afternoon and then again in the morning. No need to rush with the rest of the crowds. Excellent food all inclusive. The staff was very helpful, however we felt that we should have had access to their private bus which was only available if you took the Hiram Bingham train. They did bring our suitcases to the train station for us, so we didn't have to haul them for blocks from the regular bus. We had believed that we would be overlooking Machu Picchu ruins themselves for the extra money. We could see the mountains, but not the site. That was disappointing.

Fantastic staff at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge

The Belmond Sanctuary Lodge is the only hotel at Machu Picchu. The other option is to stay approx. 45 minute bus ride from Machu Picchu. Relative to other Belmond hotels, this is an older property and the rooms are small. We were traveling with our son (14) and fitting an extra bed in the room required some maneuvering. The staff were extremely helpful in working to accommodate. The restaurant food and service were also very good. They offer a pisco class at 6:00 which was fun and worth going to. Suggest getting a room with a terrace. It is worth the extra money, or at least ensure you don’t end up with a room overlooking the parking lot.

I personally care more about convenience and location than I do about luxury, and so then I felt I got my money’s worth staying at the Sanctuary. I think like most people, I was staying just 1 night to hopefully maximize my time at MP. I arrived to AC via Hiram Bingham train, which included a private shuttle up to the hotel as well as a guided tour of MP that afternoon. Those staying at the hotel were allowed time to check in before the tour which was so nice to be able to drop stuff we don’t need. My booking was full board so it included dinner that night, and then breakfast and lunch the next day. It included beverages too but I didn’t take advantage of that the first night because I was hiking up Huayna Picchu early the next morning. I was able to wake up at 5am, have a decent breakfast at 5:30am and watch the buses roll in with people from AC starting around 5:45am. I went to gather my stuff for my morning hike and was in MP by 6:10am. I easily made my 7am entry time, finished my hike around 9:30am and came back to the hotel to shower and rest up a bit with drinks and snacks from the inclusive mini bar. Then I checked out at 11am and went back into MP to explore some more. When I had enough, I came back to have lunch at the hotel before catching a bus down to AC for my train back to Cusco. Sure, it’s expensive to stay here. But I’m so glad I did because it just elevated my entire MP trip into a perfect experience. It’s worth the splurge if it’s within your budget.

Very expensive but for a once in a lifetime experience the cost was well worth it....take advantage of the dining options: eat in the restaurant, order to your room or even to be delivered to your outside terrace! Our room with terrace had an outstanding view of Huayna Picchu. If you’re thinking about climbing this mountain remember that your not climbing but taking step after step of continuous zig zagging steep levels till you reach the top. Definitely not for the out of shape tourists. At Aquas Calientes shopping is fun and bartering is the way to challenge prices! The dogs in this area have personality. At Machu Picchu the Alpacas are all about for fun and amazing photo opportunities....we took time to settle down in Cusco and Aquas Calientes for before Machu Picchu to adjust to the high altitude. Our reward for this trip was staying in The Belmond Sanctuary Lodge. Best of all...you can be the first person at the gate in the morning and can return to the Belmond for lunch and then return to Machu Picchu a second time entry to enjoy more beautiful historical culture. At the exit remember to stamp your passport!

Outstanding Staff, Great Location, Ok Food

The staff at the hotel is simply outstanding! They are warm with a friendly smile, and go out of their ways to make you happy. Given the claimed star rating of the hotel, improvement opportunities exist in food service (we booked the all inclusive rate). The breakfast buffet is average and could be improved in both quality & variety (my benchmark here is the breakfast buffet at Tambo del Inka in Sacred Valley). The lunch and dinner are ok. The menu lacks variety. The tastes could perhaps be improved without increasing the calories. Tried both classic and passion fruit pisco sour. Only average. I have tasted better pisco sour with many different creative toppings elsewhere on the same trip. Overall, an outstanding hotel with outstanding staff at a unique location. Our experience here was substantially better than that at the Belmond Miraflores Park.

Good but..

I think for the price, the hotel should offer more. None of the services that they offer were available, there’s no pool or hot tub, the Orchid wall seems to be in need of some Maintanence. However, it IS the only hotel within steps of Machu Picchu and the staff and customer service were both excellent. We enjoyed the food there as well. Next time, I’ll probablt save a couple hundred bucks and stay down in Machu Picchu Pueblo, only a short 20 minute bus ride away

The hotel itself is just ok - but the real befinit is it is at the site and has only 35 room - so you can stay in the park until closing while everybody not at the hotel has to leave - experiencing the site without the crowds is worth it!

Location is worth the money.

How many times are you planning on going to Machu Picchu in your life? Probably just once? In that scenario, if you’re not a hiking nut it’s worth the money to just save time and energy and stay at the Belmond. They even hold your bags and let you shower there after you’ve checked out earlier that morning.

Great Location! If you have the money - spend it.

We took the bus/train (required in January - April rainy season) from Cusco to Aquas Caliente and then the local bus up to Machu Picchu. Checked in to the hotel @ 1:00 and then into the park for a hike to Intipunku (the Sun Gate). This trail is the last leg of the Inca trail and is very lightly traveled. We had to buy a ticket for afternoon admission to the par to hike the trail. We had dinner at the restaurant rather than take the harrowing trip back down the mountain to the village. The food was good and priced comparable to a \"nice restaurant\" - $150 for dinner for 3 plus wine. The next morning we were in the park with no lines and very few people! We had purchased the ticket for the 7:00 entry to climb Waynapicchu so we could have been first in line but chose to let a large group of young people charge out ahead of us.
