Such a charming hotel! The room was immaculate, with a super comfortable bed and pillows. The free breakfast was yummy with lots of options. The staff was incredibly friendly. I would recommend this establishment to anyone traveling to Bruges, and would love go back.

Great location and the comfiest of beds! Our room was basic, no tea/coffee or fridge etc but that was fine for us, there was water though. Like others have said, there are areas that are in need of some tidying up but none of it would affect your stay. Breakfast was great, i wasn't expecting much after reading some reviews but it was all fresh and plentiful. All in all, it was a very pleasant stay, we were just there for a night so maybe I'd prefer more room facilities if i was to stay longer.

Lovely hotel in a great location

Lovely hotel with friendly welcoming staff and an excellent location near to the town centre .
The room was clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was a continental buffet with a good choice of cereals, boiled eggs , cold meats and bread .
Unlimited hot drinks during the day until 10pm from the dining area was a bonus as well .

Night 1: (room 11)

- Just behind reception and very noisy as a result
- Broken window meant a gap and letting in cold air (freezing outside). No heating in room doesn’t help!
- Paint peeling off various parts of the walls
- Squashed bugs into ceiling
- No tea / coffee facilities in room and the communal hot drinks is locked up at 10pm?!

It was so cold and noisy we asked to move rooms for night 2.

Night 2: (room 4)

- Better than room 1, warmer and less noisy.
- Still lacking the care and attention you’d expect

Breakfast:
- Coffee machine - broken
- toaster - broken
It’s just cold pastries and stale bread!

This place needs looking at, staff seem disinterested and letting it go to ruin

We loved this place. Staff were amazing. Chatty and informative and helpful. We asked for a kettle and it was done no problem at.
The view was amazing... it was of the canal and we spent time watching the water birds and really enjoyed the kingfisher.
The walk into town centre was easy and quick.
Breakfast was continental and tasty ... with wonderful fresh bakes each day .. scrummy !!
Unfortunately when i checked my coat i found id forgotten to hand in the key... so i guess i will just have to go back and return it ... oh damn !! Lol

Not what I paid for. Had to reserved another place

I reserved a big windows to the canal room. 200 euros!!! When I arrived I had an attic room with more than small windows. I had to go back to the reception area and after half an hour of showing the pictures and my reservation papers I was so tired of debating that I decided to leave. Careful, the photos are deceiving. The place is worn down.
The only good thing: Balthasar, who handled the situation like a professional. Avoid the place, I reserved another hotel, less expensive and more amenities. I wrote an email and have not received anything as an answer. Spare yourself the bad experience.

No tea, coffee maaking facilities in room, no bedside cabinets and despite asking 3 times for someone to look st our faulty in room safe, this did not materialise. Basic continental breakfast., with a little work on rooms and facilities and maybe some more staff, it could be a gem in Bruges

Excellently placed hotel with onsite parking

It was a bonus to have a hotel with on-site parking (needs reserving in advance and attracts additional fee).
The location was excellent being easy to get to the centre of Bruges which is just a few minutes walk away.
The staff were all very welcoming and mainly eager to assist - some appeared much more experienced than others.
I was told that gluten free bread was unavailable but do not know whether that would have been the case if I had asked other members of staff - there was a buffet selection of meats, cheeses, eggs, salad, cereal and fruit so there were alternatives available and all of it looked fresh and appetising.
A lot of the crockery seemed to be damaged but it was clean and always available.
The standard of housekeeping varied quite considerably between the 2 days we were there - first day the duvet was straightened - second day all the bedding was beautifully restored.
The USB socket in the room did not work but if we had raised it with the staff it would more than likely have been sorted out - we forgot as we had improvised using the socket on the back of the TV.
The room was clean and comfortable with a pleasant view. There was not much storage, seeming to be better suited to short stays but it was absolutely fine for 3 nights. The safe was useful.
There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room but they could be purchased at the bar - a price list in the room would have been useful.
We would consider staying there again.

Overall, a very cosy stay. It's a family run hotel and the staff we did meet were very friendly. The location is very convenient too.

A couple of downsides are involving the room, it could get incredibly warm even with the radiator turned down and the pillows weren't very comfortable. It would also be nice if they had tea and coffee maki facilities too.

Minimalist rooms done nicely, in a great quiet location on the West side near the train station. The canal view was as promised, but be careful of mosquitos sneaking into the room. An extra plus for the breakfast, though I did wish there was tea and coffee for the rooms.

Two minor minuses - There was an issue with hot water, but this was sorted out and I was able to check out later because of it; One of the glasses wasn't clean (with leftover lipstick), but there were plenty of other clean looking glasses available.

I'd happily stay again.

Little hotel with a friendly attitude. Located off the main touristy areas and a short walk to train station. Welcoming and helpful staff, excellent breakfast, simple yet pleasing room and nice little outdoor terrace to end the day with a cold local brew. The only issue was the hot and stuffy room due to the warm weather and not being able to keep the window open due to mosquitos. Otherwise, good vibe and good for solo travellers.

What a beautiful hotel in a beautiful city! We loved being able to look out at a peaceful canal from our room, and while enjoying the hearty breakfast from the patio. Everyting was delicious, from the boiled eggs to the fresh juice and breads. It did get a little warm in our room due to the higher than average temperature and lack of air conditioning in this old building, but opening a window made it better. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

Lovely hotel, very helpful and friendly staff - we were greeted with a warm welcome and a map of Bruges with tips and recommendations from the receptionist on where to visit.

Hotel is in a great location, around 15 mins walk from the train station and 5 mins to the centre of Bruges. Room was comfortable, water and toiletries were provided.

Great continental breakfast included- plenty of choice and attentive staff.

Main negative was the lack of air conditioning - we had a room on the top floor and really struggled to cool the room enough with the fan to sleep well the first evening. Would definitely return at a slightly cooler time of the year (was around 30 degrees at the time of our visit). Also note we had to access our room via stairs (no lift) - not a problem for us, but if you have reduced mobility.

We really enjoyed our stay. Room was comfortable, we were ground floor, room 10, bed was really comfortable and we had a lovely view of the Canal.

Breakfast in the morning was also really nice, plenty on offer. The dining room is pretty with a chandelier in the middle
It’s continental style but we knew that and it was no problem, my partner particularly liked the croissants with the variety of accompaniments on offer.

Great location for exploring Bruges, maybe a 10 minute walk into the main square. Close to bars and restaurants and we were given a recommendation from reception for our first evening, so found that really helpful.

I would definitely go back, it ticked our boxes!

After considering other options, we chose this hotel because the \"superior\" room with \"canal view\" seemed bigger in the photo, showed two high windows and included breakfast. We agreed to pay more for this, but we got the last room on the ground floor, which is very small, only has one cornered window, so it is very dark, and it does not even have two chairs and a table. The bathroom is also extremely small. Even if the hotel is nice, the staff friendly, the location and the common spaces are very inviting (especially the terrace), I can name at least 5 other hotels that were 20-40% cheaper, offered at least a queen-size bed (this one was only double, yet very comfortable) and would have been a better fit for a Saturday night in Bruges.

Beautiful hotel which is in a great location, and quiet too, overlooking the canal. Staff were so-so, though one of the women on reception was brilliant, very helpful, friendly and full of advice and recommendations. We really enjoyed the breakfast that was available but it could be a bit messy at busy times, however that's common in a lot of hotels. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well.
We paid extra for a canal view but I probably wouldn't bother if I was staying again as we were on the ground floor so it wasn't a great view of the canal, if that makes sense. The bathroom was a very modern walk in wet room style which unfortunately didn't have the right levels on the floor so every shower meant flood control was required.
We really enjoyed our stay in Monsieur Ernest and would recommend it to other travellers.

Great location close to the shopping area and only a short walk to many of the tourist sites.

I had a canal view room which was a good size with comfortable bed. There was almost no noise from other guests or outside once sleeping so got a good night's sleep. Very comfortable mattress but the pillows could have been better but no showstopper.

Lovely choice for breakfast and views of the canal. Beautiful contemporary public spaces.

Room was well prepared though there were squashed insects on the ceiling which could have been repainted whilst out of peak, but otherwise spotless. Loved the contemporary scheme of the room.

Staff were very polite and helpful.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel as a great place to stay in Brugge!

Charming hotel in a charming city

A small charming hotel walking distance from the station but in a very quiet part of an already quiet town. The welcome was friendly and unfussy and was in the room within minutes of arriving.

The room was excellent, although the lighting was brutal, and in good condition and perfect for a weekend stay.

The location off the main shopping area was ideal with bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. The breakfast was excellent, even if the breakfast room was a bit cramped at peak time. Tea/coffee making facilites in the room would have been a nice addition.

Overall a hidden gem of a hotel, and definitely one to recommend.

We were disappointed with our stay at this Hotel, the girl behind the desk when we first arrived was very helpful and I can't criticise any of the staff as they always tried to be accommodating but I found the Hotel was understaffed and it lacked basic room utilities to enhance our stay. The light above our bed was hanging off with wires exposed. Bin in bathroom had no pedal to lift lid just a wire you need to put your bare foot on after using the facilities, damp on walls, and no chance of making yourself a hot drink in your room as this facility isn't provided. TV in room was attached to a bit of chipboard on the wall.Everything stops at 10pm in this Hotel including bar and front of house, just an annoying bell on the counter if you need assistance which is annoying if you got a room on the ground floor and you keep hearing this being dinged. The view from our ground floor room was the back of someones parked vehicle. To add insult to it all when we booked out they tried to charge me again for my stay which I'd already paid for via Expedia.

The hotel is centrally located. Easy to get to from the train station and everywhere we wanted to go was within 10-15 minutes or less. Staff are so helpful, especially Nicholas. I asked for restaurant recommendations and they were great local, non touristy places, we were impressed. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We will be staying here whenever in Bruges. Fantastic hotel, beautiful interior to a really high standard. The service was brilliant, all staff so friendly, helpful and hospitable. Gave good recommendations of where to eat and drink and how to make the most of our time in bruge. Would have loved to stay for longer!
Only area for improvement would be to have tea/coffee facilities in the room. That said the coffee at breakfast made up for it. Thank you!

Wonderful stay

The hotel was in a great location and had gorgeous views of the canal which could be seen from both our room and restaurant where we ate breakfast. Nicholas, on reception was fantastic. He was so helpful and accommodating and really made our stay great. We learnt when we arrived that breakfast was included even though we hadn’t chosen to pay for it on our initial booking so that was a bonus!

Great Little Gem

Monsiuer Ernest is a lovely small and cosy hotel with a boutique feel. I paid extra for a canal view room. The staff are very nice and friendly. I did not realise that breakfast was included (continental style; meat, bread, cereal, fruit) which was good. The location was great- quiet but within a 5 minute walk from the centre.

We stayed in this hotel after coming across their on the internet and it was delightful. Parked out the back for 20€ or go to a multi storey for about half that. The room was fine but the bathroom was a bit small. That said I should admit that I am 17st and 6ft so any room can be a bit small! Brugge is a lovely place with an abundance of beer and chocolate and a shed load of bars and restaurants so no shortage of choice. Good shopping too.

We had a lovely stay at Monsieur Ernest. The room and bed were very comfortable and clean. The provided breakfast was great and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The common areas are beautifully decorated. We would stay again and recommend it to anyone!

Lovely quaint hotel with an upgrade!

I decided to extend my Brugge trip on the morning I woke up, and had a look at hotel rooms in the area as the hotel I was staying in was fully booked. I stumbled upon Monsieur Ernest and initially booked a single room. When I checked in to the hotel that I found out I got an upgrade to a double room and breakfast included which I was so happy about! My overall stay was pleasant, as I was travelling on my own and seeing friends around, I found the staff to be very helpful and welcoming. Whatever I needed, they provided. The room was clean and modern. For the price paid very, very last minute considering the upgrade; I am very lucky! The hotel is less than ten minute walk from the main square and a stone's throw away from the shopping streets. I would definitely stay here again, service was great.

Exceptional boutique hotel

LOVED this hotel. I've lived in and travelled quite a bit across Europe and this is my favorite hotel thus far. Navigating to it is slightly tricky simply because of the one-way roads within Brugge's city center but completely worth it especially since there was parking available on site ($20/day). Parking along the road is hit or miss since the city center is very consolidated, but that is also available. The hotel's aesthetic is fantastic with 1920s and 1940s influences, plus we found all accommodations incredibly clean. Everything we wanted to see or eat was within 15 minutes walking distance. The hotel staff was so helpful both with service within the hotel as well information regarding things to see and making reservations for us for highly popular dinner venues. I wish I could recall the other two's names, but we (and a few other guests) got to chatting with Nicholas quite a bit in the evening at the bar. I don't think I'd consider any other hotel if I revisit Brugge.

Disappointing Stay

Loved the design of this hotel and was excited to stay here... the room was a single and simple which I was happy with. But within a few minutes, we found several spiders and mosquitoes... I killed the first two, but after returning from dinner to two more, we reported the incident to the front desk who told us \"that's what happens when you leave the window open\". Which, we had not even opened. He told us there were no other rooms available but assured us this was unusual - but after we found bug repellent in the room, seems safe to say this might be a recurrent problem. And because there's no AC in the room - and we were warned not to open the window - the room was hot and stuffy and uncomfortable all night. Again, wanted to love it, but not a pleasant stay.

Great!

The location was great. Quite street but still quite close to everything. Clean. Spacious family room. Breakfast is just right.
Nicholas is great. Very helpful and knowlegeable.
He gave us great recommendations! When the trains went on strike he helped us figure out what to do and made arrangements for not only us and everyone leaving that day. He goes above and beyond. Thank you. One of the best features of the hotel is all of their staff. Polite and helpful.
