Room was a little dark and tucked away in a corner with not much of a view but everything was nice. Would also be nice if they installed a bar in the shower/tub for the older crowd. Was very slippery and nothing to hang on to.

Treat yourself to a palace stay!!

Wow!!! This old Palace turned hotel is amazing!!! The service was above first class in all areas. Property was lovely. Breakfast was huge and delicious. We did order a late afternoon meal at the bar area because the restaurant didn’t open til 7:30. we ordered hamburger with fries but it came with chips and we ordered the salad with out chicken. They sent to chicken which was very dry. Loved to walk along the water. We took a 1/2 day private tour of Porto highlights which was excellent

Our stay at this beautiful and historic hotel was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. We were delighted to receive a complimentary room upgrade, which made our experience even more special. The food was outstanding—each meal felt carefully prepared and full of flavor, making dining here a true highlight. This is an attractive hotel a reasonable distance from central Porto. We liked it for the pool area which was quite beautiful and relaxing with a view over the river and one of the bridges. The Luis bridge/old town is a good 45 minute walk away but a fairly easy and cheap Uber (4-7 euro usually). There is not a huge amount immediately nearby but there is a nice riverside walk leading to a few cafe/bars and a good pizzeria. The staff were very good and helpful. Room size was decent in a superior double with room for an extra rollout bed for our child and still space to move about and sit on the sofa. Our 4th floor room had a lovely river view. Breakfast could be very overcrowded at times which was the only real negative.

However, the front desk staff that checked us in was very moody and gave direct one word answers to questions. The free bottle of wine was a 5Euro bottle which in all honesty was pretty terrible. Stay was very nice, service was great once checked in and property is lovely. The only issue was at check in. Somehow even though there were 3 people at reception they had to call someone to check us in and we had to wait for that person for more than 20 minutes. We arrived well after the normal check in time, during the day.

Beautiful hotel & a wonderful taste of luxury for us. The only issue was the location, which I hadn't researched properly before booking. The hotel offer a free service into the city late morning with a pick up early eve, otherwise it's taxi's. Be sure to download and use the uber app. it works well and makes taxi's much more affordable. The drivers and service we had were all v good.

Though the hotel was gorgeous, it somehow lacked the warmth of comfort we were expecting. Check-in was odd the way it was off to the side, and nobody really helped us with any of our questions. A concierge was not around, and any question we had was just quickly and somewhat apathetically answered. In fact, nobody even told us we could buy our train tickets to Lisbon online, which would have prevented a rush that resulted in my person boarding the train without me.

The breakfast was wonderful, and we decided to make a dinner reservation for the hotel restaurant. There were only 2 other tables with people, yet we were told that we had to sit across from each other, even though there was a bench that so easily could have been pulled out so that we could have sat next to each other. The hostess said that it would get in the way if somebody sat there, yet there was nobody there.

We were at the Epic Sana in Lisbon afterwards, and we returned to Porto for one extra day and stayed at the GA Palace. Those experiences were so much superior, and, when we returned to Porto for the last night, the concierge came running to us to give us all sorts of ideas for the last day. Honestly, we didn't even know that another part of Porto existed.

Perhaps if we were there as part of a convention or were able to use the magnificent infinity pool (it was raining the whole time), our stay might have been perfect. The room was perfect, but the overall feeling just lacked warmth.

The property is very splendid impressive , the staff are consistently well trained and approachable. However we were disappointed with the lack of pressure from the shower, air conditioning worked on winter mode I.e. came on twice a day.
The outside pool was under repair, and we found the service to be rather slow.

The hotel is beautiful and very peaceful. It is located outside of Porto and it’s quite a distance to walk into the city. However, the hotel does operate a free shuttle bus once a day, but book a slot early as it tends to fill up. Alternatively, you can get an Uber for about 6 Euros into the town. The breakfast selection is very good and the food in the restaurant was of a really high standard.

We wanted to stay in a palace and it is beautiful. The beds are super comfortable. It is a bit of a walk to restaurants and stores, but we had a rental car and wanted a safe spot to park it. Fortunately, Ubers are easy and cheap from here. The breakfast is the best I've ever had! I would definitely choose to stay here again, so quiet.

We were impressed by the decor in the palace and the reception service . However it went downhill from there -a warm stuffy room and not able to turn aircon to cool( still on their winter settings) ;a tepid, poor stream shower over a bath and slippery as anything with no supports. We let reception know and they did send up non slip mat for the bath and a stool; at least next morning the water was also hot if only a trickle. The manager offered us a new lovely suite which we gratefully accepted; along with a small gift and port / chocolate. However aircon still hot and we slept with open windows to get fresh air - lucky no mosquitoes. The
Breakfast was delicious and a big spread. However there was no atmosphere ( maybe the hotel was too quiet) . Tried the spa the next day - steam and sauna lovely but not hot enough; pool too cool for an indoor pool. Maybe the eco measures need to be reviewed- at these prices comfort should be the prime driver. The location is also not walkable to anything much . Overall our worst and most expensive stay in 2 weeks in Portugal-disappointing

Just a short Uber from town and worth the views

Property and location were great. Breakfast is very good with a lot of variety and helpful staff. Rooms are very big and a nice view of the river. Too far from town to walk if that's what you are looking for. Only complaints...hard to get in and out of the tub to shower..seemed a little unsafe with the big step in and out. Personally, I didn't like the huge pillow and the even bigger memory foam. I didn't ask to replace and maybe some people really like them..just a personal preference. Overall..very nice and have already recommended.

We had a great stay with our son. The extra bed made the room a little crowded but we weren’t in the room long enough that it was a problem. The hotel is beautiful with plenty of places to hang out and enjoy each other’s company. The staff was super helpful and so nice. It was too far to walk to the city center for the taxi was only €10 for 3 people, and the hotel staff called for us. We never had to wait more than 10 minutes more the taxi.

We are extremely disappointed with our experience at this property. We booked this hotel for our last day of our trip before returning back to Canada, and it was to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. After a 3 hour drive, we were looking forward to a nice relaxing evening at this hotel. Unfortunately, our expectations were not met. As we got to the door, we were greeted poorly - felt judged for being in comfortable attire. The front desk personnel were somewhat friendly. The young woman’s Portuguese seemed to be very poor, so we spoke to her in English instead and this is also because she overheard my daughter and I speaking English. We asked about the restaurant services and if we required a reservation. We were told that we “could.” To our surprise, when we called to make a reservation, just in case, for my daughter’s birthday, the restaurant was FULL! When we got to the room, there was a loud noise coming from the vents. We called it in and were advised that someone would come to check on the issue. We had decided to go for a walk around the property. Upon our return, the noise was still there. We went to reception to ask again about someone checking the vent for us - no one ever came. As a high end property, we expected high value service. There was no acknowledgment of my daughter’s birthday. Paying attention to small details is important, especially when your customers are paying over $300. We were hoping for a better experience and a better sleep. Very disappointing.

A week in Porto

We chose in hotel because of the pool and free parking. When we arrived we were greeted at the door and offered a glass of complimentary port wine. Our stay was great. Room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The pool was excellent. We had beautiful dinner at the restaurant across the street. We walked over to the nearest public beach and stumbled upon a local snack shop. (5 minute walk to the left of the hotel on the walkway- not walking towards Porto) Had some beers and snacks. Delicious. We enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful building and not leading service

The building where the hotel is located is very beautiful but the service is not up to the standard of ‘leading hotels of the world.’ I have stayed in many and it is not even close. We got our room cleaned only at 4 pm, staff did not leave us filtered water for the coffee. Breakfast was a bit of a mess. Service at the bar was slow, the tables were dirty and overall staff did not seem to care. At the pool at some point there were no towels and the service lacked attention to detail.

What a dreamy place! The only bad thing was only spending one night at this gorgeous location!
The palace is beautiful, well maintained, and the staff is friendly, helpful, and welcoming. We arrived late and they accommodated us in the amazing restaurant. The food was superb and the exquisite service was unforgettable. Sebastiao, Rita Araujo, and Jose Almeida took care of us and made us feel so very special.
The rooms are large and beautifully decorated. There were personal touches like a bottle of Porto and a handwritten note waiting for us.
Breakfast was delicious and was only made better by the complementary specialty coffee drinks. Incredible stay! Would love to come back one day.

Gorgeous historical home turned luxury hotel. Attentive staff; massive, high quality breakfast buffet; free shuttle to town (although it was always full or not going when we needed to. But Uber to town is 4-5 Euros (meter taxi was double, so do the Uber). Five minute drive to charming Porto’s historical city center. Fall in love with Porto and the Palacio do Freixo!

A palace stay with lack of attention to detail

The check in was a bit confusing.
There were no staff at the pool or service at all at the pool. It was a trek to the bar and tiu had to carry your drinks on a tray down stairs and in the lift !!
Mojito was not right, not enough sugar or lime.
Pillows in the bedroom were too big and we couldn't get the tv to work.
There seemed to be an absence of staff.
Not great coffee at breakfast, it tasted like nescafe.

Unbelievably luxurious stay in this 300 year old building. This was a full 5 star experience for a very reasonable price. I don’t ever stay in hotels this fancy because I don’t want to spend that much and I’m usually not in the hotel, but this was quite a good deal so I took it and it was marvelous. I would have liked to be closer to town, but honestly the view was awesome and Ubers got there in less than 5 minutes ever time. I wish I could have stayed longer. The breakfast, the spa, the work out room, the staff, and the room were all top notch. The property is gorgeous especially if you. want a classic European manor house kind of vibe. Even tho the building is old, the technology was excellent, ordering room service, the WiFi, and the in room system on the tv was all fast and fantastic. I was not aware of this family of hotels but I’m a fan and I’ll look to stay at more of their properties soon!

The hotel and the staff are excellent, my only complaint was with the air conditioning which was not working and the room would get very hot and made it difficult to sleep. The staff tried to do everything possible to accommodate us but the problem could be solved, besides this issue I fully recommend this hotel. The hotel is great, it does make you feel you are in a castle, the staff is magnificent, they really go out of their way to serve you in every way possible.

We had a good stay. We were upgraded to a suite which gave us more space however the location of our room was near a street and parking garage which got noisy overnight. We enjoyed the walk and views along the river. Just over 3km from city centre to walk. The breakfast was excellent staff were friendly and helpful. My only critique is that the mattress was very firm. We noticed on our last day an option to put a cover over the mattress to make it softer. Look in the top of the closet and ask staff to remake your bed when you arrive.

The property has a good view of the river and has good amenities. To reach the main centre either you take a bus or taxi or walk 45 mins by the side of Druro river which is scenic. The property is more for events than for tourists. One set back for the property is that to go to the dining space you may have to take a route outside the property. This can be an issue if its raining or not so good weather.

Beautiful property in a lovely city that is a 4-5 star. However let down by its breakfasts and morning staff. Very poor quality breakfast buffet that often ‘ran out’ and we were only advised on our last day that there was actually a ‘hot’ menu we could order from. Seemed to have there better/different staff on the Friday who actually knew what they were doing. Shame as the hotel itself is stunning.
