A beautiful spot nestled in nature, perfect for those looking to enjoy sunshine, the sea and relaxing moments.... there are also plenty of activities 😉.
Everything for everyone!
Just a note about attebtion to details. Not always to a 5* standards. Missing replacement of used items in the room. Beach service not present even if staff is wondering around. [quicker to do it by yourself. Table service at the restaurants... a bit caotic.

We stayed in a pool and beach side room at Sugar Beach. Service, setting and hotel were impeccable. The infinity pool faces the sea and the setting sun, see below. We had wonderful poolside service from Sorab, for whom nothing was too much trouble. Sandro was also incredibly helpful when we checked out. We plan to return next year!

Wonderful property, great location and amazing pool. Very courteous staff. The staff at the kids club was very friendly and so welcoming. Buffet offered lots of variety and healthy choices. The other restaurant we tried wasn’t so compelling. The diving center and staff was great. A note for improvement : being charged for daily filtered water at the restaurant when we booked half board felt rather excessive.

Sugar Beach is fabulous! Beautiful spacious rooms, the resort is spotlessly clean, with fantastic restaurants & bars and the staff are wonderful. As a family with two teenagers, we’d highly recommend it. And visiting in July, the temperature was hot, but not too hot - just perfect.

It was amazing, beautiful and wonderful to visit Sugar Beach. Most of the staff is very friendly, but some of the staff less. The negative about the place is the service at Le Patio and Buddha Bar Beach. It was truly horrendous. Waiters will sometime bring the menu and just forgot about is.

This hotel has all the makings of being a great hotel but unfortunately misses the mark in most senses. Whilst the beach and buildings are attractive in nature, the hotel is more of a 4 star in my opinion. If you’re looking for personalised service or a level of luxury Sugar Beach is not for you.

The reception staff are unhelpful an demotivated, and there’s a level of chaos with most the staff in the buffet restaurant, booking and concierge team. Wasim the head of concierge is the only saving grace here and goes above and beyond to rectify the numerous issues that arise.

Things the hotel need to do to get the level of service expected from a 5*
-training of rude and incompetent reception staff
- Stop advertising ‘afternoon tea’ when it doesn’t exist - only pancakes
- Educate the spa staff on having less of an opinion on medical issues they are unaware of
- Sort the chaos in the buffet restaurant
- Stop garden work including tree strimming at 7am in the morning. Start post 8am
- Be less stingey on all inclusive items, including the embarassing mini bar of Doritos and alpen bars only
- Renovate the pool areas, regrout and clean the tiles
- Have beach service
- Prevent the incessant sellers on the beach bothering you every 5 minutes

The HB is a joke! No drinks included (water costs $9!!) and you can only dine at the buffet, which is 2 stars at best and the food is mediocre! When you want to dine at any of their other restaurants, they give you s credit of $18 per adult which does not even buy you a starter!

The other restaurants are good quality (7/10) but really pricey.

And the worst part: The Service!!! They have staff everywhere but the literally just stand around and don’t do anything! They reluctantly clean the tables - which is really disgusting because you have birds and even straying cats on the unbuzzed tables RIGHT NEXT TO YOU, birds feeding from and CRAPPING ON the buffet! When addressing this issue even with the managers, they just smile and tell you they’ll work on it - and guess what: Nothing happens!

After we complained, the managers (especially Stephan) were really helpful and upgraded us to AI which made our stay worth the while. Had they not upgraded us, we would have left the hotel!

Also, they had some serious issues with their A/C on some of the complexes so our room started smelling like sewage - and then it took them 2 days to move us to a different room, which they made a suit to apologize. OK, but not exactly what you expect from a 5 star resort!

And another really bad experience was EXPEDIA and their lack of helpfulness or support! They did absolutely NOTHING to help us with the resort and told us they were trying to contact the hotel and could not get a hold of anybody!

I have been to many places and sugar beach is without doubt the miat relaxing snd most beautiful place i have ever stayed at.
The location is stunning, the beach is a stones throw away from the pool. From your chair you can 15 seconds from the pool, beach or bar!
The staff are fantastic, food is great. I cannot speak highly enough about Sugar Beach.

Concierge & check in was fabulous & as we were earlier we were able to use the facilities & our AI benefits immediately. Our room was lovely, a deluxe sea view. We looked over the croquet lawn & the beach. It was quiet & the bed was very comfortable.
The first day we didn’t find it easy getting a drink. There was a private function going on.
Although there are many sun beds people do reserve them with towels. There were some available round the adults only pool but not round the main pool.
The beach is lovely but again a struggle to get a sunbed while we were there.
The two A la carte restaurants were fabulous but you need to book these as soon as you can. There were many staff in these that were very attentive.
The main restaurant was a little chaotic & noisy in the evenings. The staff here are on the go the whole time. There were some exceptional staff but they were run off their feet. The food choices in the buffet were good. At lunch time this restaurant was also a la carte & much less chaotic.
My partner went to golf at Tamarin. The concierge were extremely efficient & arranged this. It cost approx £36 to hire clubs & a golf buggy which was exceptional value, the green fees were included in the AI

While he was golfing I had an ocean healing treatment in a little room right on the beach, this did cost extra. Elodie who did my treatment was excellent. The treatment included reflexology, reiki & massage, highly recommended. Check out great. Enjoyed our time here.

Fabulous Resort. Truly felt like we were in paradise. All the staff were very polite and friendly - Tania at reception and Fazal at poolside. Food for breakfast was great especially enjoyed the addition of make your own juice. Buffet dinner at La Patio was good with different theme each night and Citronella restaurant was also very nice. Would definitely consider returning in the future.

We were quite disappointed with this hotel. It did not provide us the experience we thought. Elements were lovely but the service was a very poor level. Simple request were just not handled in a timely manner. However we got an upgrade to the room after complaining due to our hotel room not being clean and the new room was fantastic other then a power cut 4x in 2 days and having the maintenance guy out 4 times. We wouldn’t return and I’m not sure it’s value for money but overall we had a lovely time. The beach is beautiful

The only things I didn't like were 1) although it as supposed to be a 5 start resort, breakfast was a buffet and so was like any other 'canteen' breakfast and 2) for half board and all inclusive tariffs, most restaurants and menus charge an additional cost for almost all of the meal choices. For all inclusive tariffs, I have not experienced this before. We ended up with a large bill on top.

Decent hotel in a good location. The hotel is very clean, and the beach is very nice and not too busy. Gym and spa facilities were also good. Just a few things made the experience less enjoyable, if you’re on a half board package your dinner doesn’t include water or a soft drink, I could understand alcohol but this is just cheeky. Equally, they have a Nespresso machine with 3 capsules, you’d assume these are complimentary in a luxury hotel, I was surprised to see that they charged me £10 for these on check out, (I challenged it and they removed it, but why do it in the first place?). All the birds at breakfast jumping around tables and over the food as not great, it would be good to have an enclosed section where this is not the case if you don’t want to eat outside.

Loved the design of the hotel. Low level buildings spread out along the beach front. A lot of guests however felt more like a boutique than a large resort.
Location on the west coast was ideal for watching the sunset. Lots of birds and fruit bats, on a clear night you can see the stars so clear and bright.
The room design was modern and stylish and had everything you need. TV not many English channels. Would have been good to cast iPad but couldn’t get it working.
Staff were overall very good and attentive.often asking us if we were happy with everything at the hotel
A la carte restaurants were very good however half board credit doesn’t go very far towards bill.
Buffet had a good selection however we felt the overall standard could have been better. Would have been good to have a set a la carte menu at the main restaurant at breakfast and dinner. Would also be a benefit to use half board at lunchtime if you wanted to eat out in the evening.
Citronella and Buddha beach had very good food and service.
The sister hotel, La Pirogue Magenta especially good.
Used most of the facilities at the hotel. Gym well equipped and staff all very helpful.
Spa also very nice. Massages very good.
Used the tennis courts however disappointed at having to pay to rent rackets and balls £10 per session.
My partner played golf at both tamirina and ile aux Cerfs. No green fees was great however buggy and golf club rental coming to £100 ish.
Entertainment very good.

Lovely location, and from what I saw the best beach front by far. The hotel has good excursions and you can book them in at the front with your own taxi to take you and wait for as long as you need.

The Three restaurants are brilliant, offering a wide range of food, and what’s a resort without a breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet. A good range of foods in the buffets which changed daily.

Staff always on hand for anything you need, and overall for me the best place to stay when In Mauritius.

Another great stay at Sugar Beach. This is some of the best service I've received in Mauritius. I'm sure everyone is mandated to smile and say 'bonjour' to guests, but beneath that corporate exterior are genuinely friendly, funny, attentive people. I had real conversations and felt very well looked after. Standouts included Reshma on reception, the door guys, Bianca and the girl doing the fried eggs at breakfast, the juice trainee, but especially the pool bar staff. Fazle and the other servers were helpful and great with my kids. The nurse really helped me out with advice and calling the doctor when my daughter was sick. Needless to say, the hotel, food and facilities were great.

The colonial style of the property has its own appeal if you like that sort of thing. It was quite different from other places. What I appreciated the most was the empowered staff determined and able to please. They put customers first, not the rules and regulations. The lovely walkable beach was also a special delight.

First and foremost, the thing that sets sugar beach apart is the profesionalism, friendlinesss and helpfulness of the staff. Compared to the attitude of staff in other places this far surpasses what I've seen before. Maybe it's enforced, but it didn't feel like it. The facilities are pretty good, used the pool and the kids club service and was pleased. Didn't get to use spa and gym so can't comment. Rooms are large and well-equipped although some of the finishing touches need upgrading. It's not walking distance to the main bit of flic en flac but there is a cheap bus from outside and taxis. I almost forgot, the food is plenty and delicious, especially sea food and curries. Would go back again.

Even though its was 4 times higher priced over xmas and nye, it was still the best option for us for our family holiday. We got to really just kick back and enjoy the resort and all it has to offer which includes all facilities at its sister hotel as well. The beach in Flic n Flac is absolutely the best. Better than all others on the island. Tremendous thanks to Arvin who is a superstar at the resort and really went out of his way to ensure our stay was more than pleasant. The guys at the pool service and beach service are also commended for their great service. The Xmas and NYE gala dinners and events were amazing and quality of food. Thank you Sugar Beach. The newly renovated rooms are awesome. Steer clear from old manor house rooms which are ancient.. (my advise). Thanks Sugar Beach. We will be back for sure. Not worth the high cost.

Pros: Rooms recently renovated, nice decor, room right in front of the beach, some of the hotel restaurants (the budha bar especially) are very high quality.
Cons: Very bad level of service. We reserved a king bed room and got a room with two seperate beds. No apology, no compensation, the staff seemed to behave like this was our fault. One clerk offered to send someone to pull the beds together, he never did, after full day of waiting they remembered that they \"can't\" pull the beds together because it's a newly renovated room.
The rate included buffet dinner which was very low quality (def. not 5 start level), but worse yet, when we asked for plain WATER we were told dinner doesn't include drinks and you have to pay for WATER. In other news, air condition only worked some of the time. The hotel looks nice but service is everything and they have a lot to learn on that department.

Sugar Beach Best 5 Star Hotel on the West Coast

Sugar Beach is the best hotel on the west coast of Mauritius. We go there every year, we love everything about it. It is currently undergoing renovations but we were not at all disturbed by it as it was happening on the North side villas. The staff in the hotel are outstanding and we were delighted to have been invited to have a cocktail with 2 Guest relations staff. It was great to spend time with two genuine people that have a great passion about their job. Food and drink were high standard in the Buddha Bar and the buffet for dinner was also outstanding. We will definately come back again next year and stay in the newly renovated villas which we were lucky enough to have had a look at before we left the hotel.

Beautiful property with poor and slow service

We had way too many issues at check-in - we were greeted by a doorman that first told us that we cannot use the parking, the check-in was delayed with an hour, our luggage arrived around after 17:30 in our room, our welcome drink was with way too much sugar etc. The service everywhere at the resort was extremely slow. For example - you need at least 2 hours to have a lunch or a dinner at any of the restaurants except for the buffet. The food at the main restaurant was good, the food at the other restaurants was mediocre at best and pricey. The pools, the buildings, the beach and the whole area seemed to be well maintained and the property looked beautiful. The quiet pool was kept really quiet and it was nice to relax there.There were always free sunbeds at any time. The guests of Sugar Beach Resort are allowed to use the facilities of La Pirogue as well.

Loved it. Went for our honeymoon. Beautiful scenery. We stayed in the honeymoon wing. Service excellent. Food excellent. Clean ... what more could you want? Stayed on a HB basis. Lunches out in Flic en Flac using the local bus service were yummy and a must for anyone.
Coral in the sea so you will need some plastic shoes for the sea if you have sensitive toes!!! But glorious beaches. Would definetly go again if we had the chance.

Fun in Mauritius

Great facilities and wide variety at the buffet. Good clean rooms and helpful staff. Construction work at main pool was disruptive and noisy (October 2018). No control over smoking in outdoor areas. Loud music on some evenings ruined our dinner experience. Great beaches and plenty of options for lounging in the sun or shade. Well organised boat house with good equipment and pedal boats. Our child loved the main pool with walk-in edge. Excellent fast free wifi throughout the site, but had a couple of interruptions. Shared access to the sister hotel La Pirogue restaurants and many facilities.

Fabulous place to relax, enjoy the meals, facilities and beach.

Unforgettable Stay

What an amazing place and we had a sea view room which was 5 meter to the beach. The staff and house keeping was fantastic. It was a memorable stay and would definitely recommend this resort to others to enjoy.

Rooms need a serious upgrade.
Buffet food was terrible- half board was a waste of money.
Resuturants available on site are average to poor.
Hypoallergenic bedding was shocking quality. Pillows disgusting.
Not the 5 star resort I remember from earlier visits.
Access to the exclusive beaches is the only good aspect. Wifi slow. Netflix not accessible.

The hotel to stay at for your wedding anniversary

We had the most amazing time at Sugar Beach Resort in Mauritius. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and mentioned this when filling out the check in form. Nicolas and his team went above and beyond to make our anniversary stay an exceptional one. We received a surprise anniversary cake with sparkling candles together with a nice message at the end of dinner in Citronella Restaurant on one of the nights. To top that, when we went back to our room, this was superbly decorated with swans made from beach towels and flowers. We were also very pleased with the tshirts with SB logo that we received and the room upgrade.

Special mention to Dookun in the Main Restaurant where we dined on the first night. Service from Dookun was great and what a nice person. Special mention also to Vinesh Rao in the Tides Restaurant who treated us so well at lunch time. Food quality at both lunch and dinner were exquisite and breakfast was plentiful and varied. We also really enjoyed the mocktails at check in that was made in front of us. The girl that walked us to our room was very nice too.

In addition to the great service, we really enjoyed the adults pool. What a spectacular sunset view we got from that pool. The rooms were kept clean throughout our stay and we liked the big bottles of toiletries which were more than enough for two people. We also enjoyed the bonfire and music by the beach at night.

Thank you SB team for making our wedding anniversary a memorable one.

Great honeymoon stay!

Stayed here for 4 days at the end of our honeymoon and we had a great time. The hotel was very luxurious, and we were upgraded to an ocean view villa room from the garden view villa we had booked, which made our last days extra special. Staff also very kindly left in our room a bottle of sparkling wine, sarong & T-shirt, and a fruit platter. We found the room well-maintained and comfortable. We had a lovely view of the sea and spectacular sunsets. Food was delicious, high-quality and we appreciated it - (ate too much each night). We were on the half-board and it was enough for us. Ate at Tides 2x and enjoyed it: 1st evening had the seafood platter for 2, which was excellent. We had a 2400MRUs credit, so it cost only600MUR and was well worth it. 2nd evening we were offered a honeymoon dinner which was also very nice. Tips: Water sports were good, but the snorkelling trip filled up fast - book ahead! Bus stop is right beside hotel and quick to get into town. We needed our water shoes here on the beach. Pool away from the main part of hotel was very quiet if that's what you're looking for. Sega show during dinner was very enjoyable. All in all a great stay & we would recommend the hotel, and maybe even go back in a few years for our anniversary!

Perfection by the Sea

Beautiful hotel, seems much more intimate than other hotels its size due to the wide spacing of the buildings, airy plantation house architecture, beautiful gardens and ocean side location. The breakfasts were the best we had in Mauritius, Our ocean front suite was quiet and very spacious. The was complimentary bottled mineral water---Evian and Pelligrino. The staff were helpful and friendly. There was a wide range of activities with trained staff to teach paddleboarding, tennis or anything that you would want to try. I'd thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone, couples or families.
