What let this place down was water and electric cuts. I have been to other islands and countries which are not as developed and they have back up generators reserves of water.

The other issue was the club which did not serve local rum, only beer and wine included within the all inclusive. I was here for a friend's wedding as we're c.50 others from the UK and with other areas serving local rum on the complex as part of the all inclusive and even being told on the hotel tour I was baffled why the club did not serve rum which seems a little stupid.

If you are looking for a budget holiday and are not expecting a 5 star menu about the variety or quality of food on offer then you’ll be fine.
The overall look and feel of the reception/bar/ restaurant are was pleasant, clean with good service, although I found some of the ‘no local’ waiting staff preferred to service a minority vs majority as being a solo female traveler.
The room was a good standard for a 3 star hotel although cleanliness could have been a better standard.
Spa was very nice and unexpected.
Pool are was small but very tranquil and again above what you would expect of a 3 star hotel.
Value for money I would recommend this hotel and I would return to stay again.

Idéalement situé en bord de plage, chambre spacieuse avec grande salle de bain qui demanderai à être refaite. Bon accueil, personnel disponible. La cuisine, pas top, pas trop de choix, même si c'est à thème chaque soir, ça fait un peu cantine! Dommage qu'en demi-pension on doit payer sa bouteille d'eau à table alors qu'il y a une carafe ds la chambre et des fontaines d'eau fraiche.

The property is dated and needs modernising. Shower heads spray everywhere, shower curtains mildew, and safety rail in bath hanging off the wall. Having said that, the hotel is in a great place across the road from Flic en Flac beach, and the staff were all very friendly and professional (especially Hans, Avi, Victor, and the overworked bar staff!). You can book tours etc thru the front desk very easily and there is a supermarket and ATMs all within 100m of the hotel. Awkward systems like ordering drinks and waiting for them to arrive (or not arrive) and then having to wait to sign 2 pieces of paper to assign the bill to your room! The bar staff were so friendly but run off their feet while waiters stood around. Buffet food was good and there was a variety of different things each night - simple fare.
Loved our stay - recommend if you don’t mind a dated facility.

We found the staff here all good people and the location perfect for the beach. The bar was decent and reasonably priced.

Unfortunately that’s where the good points end. The room was tired and grubby. We were offered an upgrade shortly after our arrival but we had already unpacked and filled the fridge so didn’t move. The other room offered was almost identical anyway.

By far the worst part of the stay here was the food. We stayed half board but only had our first meal then refused to go back. Firstly the food is all cheap stuff. Penne pasta, bread, salad, cheap chicken pieces on the bone. There were insects in the salad. All the food is either left open for insects to get involved or covered in really unhygienic plastic covers. We ate very little and decided to have a dessert from the selection of small pieces of cake. First mouthful something was clearly wrong. I opened up the cake and found between the layers was thick green mould. This must have been on display for a long time. Discusting hygiene standards and I must advise to avoid.

The staff offered us some money off as we didn’t eat there in the end.

There’s a busy guy called Hans who clearly works hard and was good with us.

A waiter there called Jervais is an absolute credit to the place making us very welcome.

Potential here but we felt that the manager / owner was cutting corners with cheap food and low standards.

Was given a standard room instead of deluxe one on my first night and I don't know if it was the hotel or Expedia's booking fault to the hotel.Took 2 days to rectify the mistake, I was not impressed since I personally call the hotel a few days prior to arrival but friendly staff.
Breakfast was often cold as no one was looking after keeping the pots warm.

Great location, central to many Flic en Flac restaurants, beach outlets and shopping. Across the road from a great beach. Recommend Club Rooms with nice views across to beach, quiet rooms and a great nights sleep. Hotel bar and restaurant in nice garden setting and always seems to attract a nice cool breeze. Traffic noise sometimes but not a big issue given other benefits of location. Small pool and lounger area but fine for an occational cooling dip. Gym and spa facilities a bonus.

location is fantastic and we had a spacious family room with beautiful large balcony across from the beach. Unfortunately the trees on the beach block the view so you are unable to see the ocean.
While the hotel facilities are great, with a nice bar and restaurant the hotel itself is very dark and in need of an upgrade. Our room was quite dark and a bit smelly, making me avoid spending time in their - which is fine as their was a lot to do in the area. My husband and I loved the Wednesday night DJ and enjoyed dancing at the open air bar. I also enjoyed the relaxing spa treatments which included a Hammam, however they were very expensive. The breakfast buffet was decent. Overall it was a pleasant stay, staff were very accomodating, but hotel would have to be upgraded for me to stay again considering the price.

A special place

The staff members are outstanding. Very friendly and accommodating. The location is right in front of the beach (although the rooms that claim to have an “ocean view” offer a sliver of ocean and the rest is completely obstructed by trees). The breakfast offers lovely fresh fruit, several kinds of fresh bread and many other options. The buffet dinner is overpriced at 1000 rupees (about 30 dollars), but overall, this hotel is a wonderful option with the nicest staff ever!

There are cockroaches inside some of the rooms. The place needs an intense and thorough fumigation. Rooms have hair and are not cleaned properly. The worst is the loud music that plays non stop in the lobby area even when no one is listening to it. The buffet dinner is lame and tasteless. Would not recommend.

Thorough, personalised service

The hotel is love at first sight and until the end.

Never had an experience like my check in - Milla explained everything I needed to know, took me to my room, helped me with my bag and I got a welcome drink straight away from another staff member. Of course reception staff explain what you need to know at other establishments but this was much more personalised and thorough. I was even asked about food allergies.

In general staff members were on hand to help.

The breakfast buffet was delicious, the dinner buffets were good too. The entertainment was very special. Unfortunately I missed sega night!

The hotel is across the road from the beach, has a spa, pool and gym. It's a wonderful place to relax and is close to shops, other restaurants, a tourist guide office and everything you need.

Near the beach, good breakfast

The room was small but nice with a balcony that overlooked the street and a bar below but it was noisy due to traffic and music from the bar. There was no ventilation in the washroom and the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The buffet dinner in the main restaurant - some of the food was cold and there was not much food left when we arrived for dinner at 8:20 pm although it had opened at 7:30 pm. It was difficult to get the assistance of the employees as there were not many. The breakfast was better with an egg station, lots of fresh fruit, yogurt, etc. During the morning (approximately 7:30 - 8 am) the power and internet cut out several times. The location is right across the street from the beach and there is a grocery store underneath the hotel and a couple of touristy shops in the attached mall. When we noted our concerns online, the manager met with us, listened to our concerns and offered assistance which we appreciated. It was clear that he was concerned and took our comments seriously.

Friendly attentive staff. The breakfast is fair for the star rating. Basic but fresh looking, coffee needs to be hotter, but that's more personnel preference.
My bed was comfortable and big enough for 4 persons. Rooms are more than adequate with tea/ coffee replenished daily.
Cleaned daily and fresh towels.
You are given towels at the reception for use on the beach.
Grounds and gardens are maintained beautifully with a Chinese relaxed theme.

Definitely recommend!

We loved our stay here! A great compromise between a 5 star resort and your basic bed and breakfast!

The location is amazing, the atmosphere is great and most of the staff were so nice! Especially one particular young guy who works at the bar. I can't think of his name but I think it began with an A. He was so lovely and always made us feel so welcome when we went for our drinks in the afternoon.

I think this hotel can obviously make some improvements, as with any hotel. The bed, advertised as a king bed, was actually two single beds stuck together. I hate when hotels do this. It is uncomfortable and not at all a king bed. The hot water system could also be improved because sometimes it was completely cold and other times it was too hot. I also felt the air conditioning didn't cool the room sufficiently, but I am really fussy when it comes to a cool room so maybe that was just me being fussy! Obviously the pool area wasn't huge but, given the layout of the hotel, this may be difficult to change.

Anyway, my boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay. Thanks for having us!

No water in the room

We stayed in the hotel for one night as it was my birthday and had family over here. I had stayed in this hotel before and recommended it to my family. Be to my surprise when I woke up in the morning there was no water in the room. We could take a shower, use the toilet or even brush our teeth. When I phoned reception they told me it was out all round due to a burst pipe and it would be back soon. We have a day trip booked which we never got to go as we spend most of the day in the room waiting for the water to come back. I rang reception 5tomes while waiting only to be told the water was back on but we still didn't have any. They said they would send someone to the room but no one came. It was my family's last day in mauritius as they were flying out the following day and never got out trip out together.

In addition to it on the last floor, it has a great spa(literally the best massage I've ever had in my life), that is offering you a wide range of services. Service, service, service.

The service at Aanari was outstanding. No matter which staff member I encountered; from bellboy, to reception staff to waiters, the level of high service continued.

I could not sleep the first night at the hotel because the bed was too hard for me. The next morning several people asked how I slept and I finally confessed to the waiter serving my coffee that I had not slept on account of the bed. Within minutes he had reported to the reception staff and I was informed that my mattress would be changed by the time I got back to my room. And so said, so done. I didn't imagine changing a whole King sized mattress was even an option and was thinking I would need to just deal with little sleep. These guys clearly go the extra mile when it comes to service. Thanks especially in part to Aanari staff members, Avi, Joel & Shan.

The hotel desperately needs an upgrade, the rooms are tatty and worn. I battled to get hot water and my last two showers were cold. The staff were generally very friendly but on one occasion a staff member failed to call a taxi for me as requested which made me an hour late for a meeting.
The food is very average.

Relaxing, friendly hotel by a beautiful beach

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Aanari Hotel and Spa. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the bedrooms of a good size and clean. As a single female traveller, I always felt very safe and was impressed by the general security (for example, you have to use your room key card to access the hotel from reception). The hotel's location is truly excellent as the beautiful white sandy beach of Flic en Flac is just a few minutes walk away.
I was impressed with the variety of dishes offered at the evening buffet and had many enjoyable meals there. I would, however, caution visitors that whilst the food is delicious, it is very high in salt content. Some aspects of the hotel which could be improved include the pool, which is small and of an aged appearance, and the poorly-equipped gym which also did not have any air conditioning!
Overall, however, I would recommend this hotel both as a relaxing place to stay and as a good base from which to explore the island.

I had a great stay at the Aanari. The staff are friendly and co-operative. The hotel is a little jaded but clean and located across the road from the beach. There was a good range of food each day and bonus live entertainment each night. It's not a 5 star resort but clean, comfortable and enjoyable and great value.

Club room was spacious; comfortable bed. Avi and Gael are very helpful at the reception desk. Ismail ensured a good service at restaurant. Buffet is small (matching with occupancy rate) and very tasty food. The spa just reopened during the time I was there. The spa menu is under review. The massage treatment could have been deeper. The spa manager must be clearer as to when guests can leave the treatment room after the massage instead of poking through the door, thus giving more privacy to guests. I requested for a multi plug and got it 30 mins later even if I went down to reception to get it. When I informed the waiter that the hot milk at breakfast served with tea has an odd taste, he immediately changed it. Overall, good stay for an average budget. Excellent beach opposite the hotel.

Tired and needing improvement

I felt that the hotel was overpriced for what we got, we stayed at other budget accommodation in Mauritius which was half the price and so much better in every way. The main selling point of this hotel is it's location if you want to be central and/or cannot afford one of the resorts.

On our first day we couldn't get any hot water in our room for a shower. The next day was slightly better and then it went to being so hot and randomly changeable midway during a shower which meant nearly scalding ourselves on a couple occasions. I got tired of having to mention it to reception.

We also found blood on our bed sheets on arrival which had to be changed.

The rooms are otherwise fine but the food is terrible. We had a half board booking which means both breakfast buffet and a dinner buffet were included but both were so unpleasant that we ended up eating out every night instead. On the night we did eat the dinner buffet they had various plates of meat out on the buffet table without any cover for the entire service which is not hygienic and whatever else they had was cold and not very tasty.

Aanari Hotel staff are lovely nothing is too much trouble. Special mention to Shan Euacub and Ismael in the dining room who work very hard to make sure guests are looked after. Hotel is across a small road from the beach however sunbeds are not placed on the beach everyday and we stumbled across them rather than being told they were available. The pool area is pleasant but the pool needs a good clean. Rooms are clean and well maintained.

Hotel was comfortable overall. We did half board and the meals were average. During heavy rains, our rooms flooded but the hotel staff expeditiously got us new rooms and had our stuff moved. A/C was not very good but it kept the room cool enough to sleep. Breakfast was overall good.

The upgrade to 'Club Room' was not as advertised in the photos, about as spacious as a normal hotel room with a wonderful view of the parking lot. Housekeeping was hit and miss, 3 days out of 6 when things were replaced/re-stocked properly. We were on half board; meals were mediocre but staff made efforts to provide good service. Overall cleanliness was good

It was everything I wanted in a getaway. Shops and restaraunts are close by and the beach is a 5 minuit walk.

Very nice! Close to beach, pub and shops!

This hotel is well situated close to bars shops and restaurants. Public transport is nearby and the beach is literally across the road!
The rooms are well appointed clean and have nice views from most balconies. The hotel staff are excellent hard working and courteous.
The pool and gym facilities and spa are good and the hotel bar is great if you don't fancy going too far!
The buffet style breakfast and dinner offer a very good choice and excellent themed meals. There are a lot of restaurants and cafés in Flic En Flac so there are no problems with lunch, The Bougainville and Maffiozo are highly recommended.
All excursions can be booked from just outside the hotel in the Pasadena complex, and Quatre Bornes, Port Louis and Cascavelle shopping centre are only short bus rides away!
The best advice for changing money is to do it at the airport or exchange services in Mauritius you will get a far better rate than changing before you leave, also better and quicker than the banks!
We are looking forward to visiting the Aanari Hotel again very soon!

Nice hotel, ideally located, great value

The hotel is located just few meters from the beautiful beach of Flic-en-Flac and it is ideally located to explore the rest of the island. We hired a car and used it as a base to explore both the south and the north of Mauritius. The staff was polite, friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious with a massive bed and a nice balcony, clean and tidy. One slightly negative point is that there was not an extractor in the bathroom, so it smelt of damp a little bit. There is a small but nice swimming pool, a gym and a spa (but cannot comment on the spa as we have not used it). We chose half board and the food was nice, abundant and different every night (different theme every night). There was also music provided by a talented and polite man. Wifi was free (lobby and room) but not very fast Clearly this is not a 5 star luxury hotel, for that you need to pay a lot more and food is not Michelin star. However it is a very good hotel with a great value for money and a nice location/atmosphere. Nearby you can also find a Spar supermarket and Italy Tour travel agent (for excursion and tours) All in all a great experience, great value and absolutely recommended

Cheerful and helpful Hotel

The staff make a hotel what it is and they were friendly, charming and helpful. To hand to the hotel is shopping, pharmacy, everything, beach, good restaurants (Beach Shack was very good). The hotel restaurant was a good , different menu every night, and live music, sega etc was good. I liked the privacy of the hotel pool and the gym was useful.My special thanks to staff, Catherine, (always ready to smile and top up the coffee) Shan, and Bajal, the day security man (helped me deal with a sports injury) and all the staff help make a great holiday.

excellent tasteful friendly

we stayed at the Aanari for five nights in June. Had an excellent time. It was the off season so the large staff had a lot of time for us! Food was great, staff friendly and helpful. The design and decor of the hotel is original - exotic and somehow Old World, yet with all the mod coms. I would recommend this lovely jewel to any traveller.

Nice hotel walking distance to Flic en Flaq beach

Staff were very helpful and social. Please note that Flic en Flaq isn't a lively area. So if you're looking for a peaceful hotel with the normal amenities available and close to the beach at good value, I would recommend Aanari.

points to read before booking this hotel

If you deciede to go to this hotel pls take care of the following - 1. take a crate of water bottles with you as these people will not give water in your rooms and neither with food and then they will charge you 300 mur for a 17 mur bottle. 2. if you have booked this hotel in any other currency except mur then make sure you carry that currency else they will charge you exorbitant amount in the conversion or if you pay by card. 3. as i was vegetarian so had very little choice of food there. 4. the front desk staff was not at all welcoming. as soon as you will start talking to them you will feel that why did i book this place.

Great value and close to everything

We stayed at Aanari for four nights in Jan 2014 and it was just what we needed. Pool, breakfast, across the road from Flic En Flac beach and walking distance to nearby restaurants and shops. Really handy to have a supermarket attached to the building! We stayed with our 2 year old and it was truly a family friendly hotel.

Aanari staff were not as helpful and as friendly as I would have liked, the service was slow. We were MOVED to another hotel, which they supplied transport for and tried to make amends by offering dinner, it was not a like for like swap and I would never have booked that hotel myself. I am disgusted with this hotel. The overall appearance is fine, but really disappointing.

The highlight of our stay was the attitude and friendliness of the staff! Well positioned with sea views from our room. The hot water took about 15 minutes to run through the taps - which was a huge waste of water and a bit annoying. We stayed for 5 days. On our last night the hotel had their first 'nightclub' happening which we didn't go to as we had an early start the next day. What was very disappointing was that the 'nightclub' was held directly under the guests rooms and went on to 1.30 am in the morning. Our room was vibrating with the noise and we left it until midnight before we complained. The staff member that answered the phone was very apologetic but could do nothing about the problem. It was obvious we weren't the only ones to complain. There was no apology from management the next day. Inspite of enjoying our time here I would be reluctant to stay again.

Good Flic en Flac Mid-Range Option

This was a nice option for Flic en Flac. We wanted something in this area, and the options are very Lux, or low end. This was a nice middle option. Room was as shown. We had a good location room, I think some may not have been as ideal, or rather were close to road. We had a balcony overlooking main area which was nice.

Staff was nice enough, some better than others. Service was good. Our room included dinner which was a nice surprise, and the food was different every night and we enjoyed it, good buffet options. And the entertainment each night was good, like the Sega show, and the guy who plays guitar, just a very nice atmosphere each night. We arrive on Christmas eve to quite an event, fun.

Beach was close by. Its not on the beach, but easy few minute walk. They had chairs and umbrellas down at the beach, but only 8 of them, go figure. The location of their chairs is not great, but just down beach is much better where all the people are.

The spa on top floor is pricey, but my partner had the best mani/pedi ever and its an experience. So worth the price. You have to book the steam/sauna in advance, which seems a pain, except then you get it privately, so nice.

They had these interesting little pots with shower gel in the room and spa, and I have to say the most beautiful smelling scent and I forgot to ask what is was. But it was really nice.

Overall a very nice mid-range option. We were happy we stayed here and this was nice place with nice people.

A possible choice for your vacation

Normal 3 stars hotel with a very nice garden. The restaurant is good, food good, an improvable area is the variety of the dishes. As a suggestion, it will be very good if the chef will prepare some Mauritius traditional specialities, fish, lobster, crabs etc. I was a bit disappointed about the view I have from my balcony, an interior courtyard unmaintained, very close to become a rubbish placestore. Seing the photos on internet I was very sure the hotel is on the beach. It is not and the hotel has no private beach, no sunchairs, no possibility to drink something on the beach - in a word a public beach is over the road, nothing spectacular. Do not expect some nice views from your rooms, it will be not spectacular. Overall, it is nice or not, this is direct related of the level of expectation you may have.

Just wonderful!

A great hotel, we got an upgrade to the 'best room in the hotel' and it was simply amazing! Huge balcony, gorgeous bathroom, and even a spare room for kids (not that we had any).

Food we had was a buffet, but was very good and Sega traditional entertainment was awesome too!

Hotel is really beautiful and very close to beach across the road and local shops.

Down time for two

Prompt service upon arrival and we were able to have our room after only a 5 minute wait. The best part of the hotel is the roof spa which was always available and with the view to the ocean and unlimited use of the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, we felt very relaxed. The small pool is delightful and with the beach across the road clean and empty, it was suitable for relaxation. Hotel provides free loungers on the beach but inform reception so they can issue a voucher.
The buffet food was adequate, though rarely varied enough(theme nights), offering minimal choices (we were on half board). A bit of exploration in the area revealed some good options at higher grade resorts which was worth the extra cost + sports bars and street vans( great for lunch).
If you plan to use the TV the channels are few and mostly French, naturally, with BBC World. Our TV only had BBC in B+W even after the technician visited.
Sleeping just below the spa was a little difficult. Every morning at 7:30 the water features were turned on with a lot of noise.
Travel is easy using taxis from car park at the nearby road junction. Everything on the island is within reasonable distances.
