No nearby restaurants, and although dinner is available onsite, it needs to be ordered in advance each morning something that was not communicated in advance. So as we checked in at 5pm, we were lucky that there were still available entrees or we would have been out of luck.

Lights left on over night meant an eye mask was needed to sleep well as curtains did not block out light.

Overall great stay - quit place, right on the beach. Transportation is decent - every 5 min bus to Port Louis - 30 min.
Not a lot of places to eat nearby, however can order dinner(breakfast included - good quality).

We had a lovely suite with roof terrace and fantastic sea view . Huge beds, AC great bathroom .
Staff were all lovely and you didn’t feel any sort of resentment from anyone which can be the case sometimes.
Breakfast was great everyday and their limited dinner option was something that we tried a few times because the chefs really were very good at their jobs .
The building is a lovely old hotel but needs a little bit of attention as it is starting to get a little bit scruffy . That being said , it was very comfortable and we definitely were very happy with our stay there and would re-book with them

We had a wonderful day at the Villa Anakao. The location is right on the water and you get great views of ships passing the island. The pool is lovely and the service is excellent. We had an excellent breakfast and dinner there. Clean and comfortable, I recommend it highly.

Very nice, true Mauritius experience. Lovely suite overlooking the pool and ocean. Meals prepared onsite. Breakfast included. For dinners, the menu is posted and you sign up for your choice of appetizer, main and dessert. Lovely quiet place with friendly helpful staff. Lush gardens, plenty of shaded seating, and colorful birds. I'd definitely recommend especially if you prefer a friendly authentic stay rather than a glitzy resort.

Excellent service, wonderful property. We had a beautiful upstairs family suite and really enjoyed the overall stay. The family suite can get very warm in the main living area, although there is air conditioning in the one bedroom. There isn’t a lot immediately around the property, so you will need a vehicle or plan for private transportation or tours if you want to see the island.

This is a charming boutique hotel with attentive and friendly staff. Janey the cook and her assistant Anushka prepare delicious meals, which are served directly overlooking the sea. Villa Anakao is not situated in a tourist spot. There is a nearby fish stall on a nearby beach which is worth a visit.
This hotel is certainly not posh. It is real Mauritius, but is nevertheless a great place to relax after a day of exploring the island, and a fraction of the cost of the much smarter big brand hotels. I stay there when working in Mauritius and find it to be a welcome place to retreat to.

Wonderful place. It's a small (less than 10 room) hotel, with a family feel. The rooms are clean and spacious, and many open out onto the encircling veranda. The grounds are intimate, and while there is no direct beach access, there are nice views of the ocean. Breakfast is included, and did not disappoint- full service with choices. Dinner is also available at very reasonable prices- you can opt in to their daily special, or if that doesn't suit, there are other options available. You'll need to ask about those, however. All meals are al fresco in either the thatched dining cabana or on the veranda. There's a neat self serve bar for beer and soft drinks- for anything else ask at the front desk. Service is marvelous. The staff was very willing to help with taxis and tours, which is nice, because unless you have a rental car it's a bit off the beaten track. I highly recommend!

Staff are fantastic - generous, kind, polite and helpful. Food is great. Property is small, which adds to the personal feel.
It’s a little isolated, so you’ll need to be prepared to use buses, taxis, car rental to visit places, but the staff will help you find your way.

Beautiful view, just as presented in listing ad. The room was spacious and nicely designed, loved the terrace space. If you're driving there be sure to have google maps available, roads off the main motorway are not clearly signed, I arrived in the dark to make it a bit more of a challenge. Once found then no probs.

Wonderful hospitality. I was suffering from digestive upset (contracted earlier in my trip), and the staff and cooks went out of their way to help get me rested and on the mend. The surrounding area is thoroughly urban, but Villa Anakao was an island of tranquility.

had a great stay here. nice sea view. the location is central for Mauritius, but you should probably get a car to get around the islands to see everything. the hotel is a perfect base for that. would stay again. no, it's not hard to find but exactly there where google map says and there is a sign.

More A Manor House Than Hotel

Quick and friendly check in/out. Room was clean and spacious with all furniture and fixtures made of wood. The provided lighting was not enough for the size of room. Felt as if we were staying in a country manor house rather than a hotel.
The included breakfast was limited to bread products and cold cuts, with the only hot food items on offer being bacon and eggs and the items were exactly the same each day. Parking is also limited, although we found a space everytime during our stay.
The hotel and grounds are starting to show their age and a major renovation will be required in the coming years.
Located a short drive from Port Louis. Hotel backs onto the ocean with a small beach a few minutes walk away. Overall enjoyed our stay.

Fantastic, colonial house, terrace and garden.
We had a room with our own terrace facing the sea, pool and garden - very pleasant as we came directly from the airport.
We had breakfast and dinner twice and it was ok.
However I have to mention that the hotel in spide of its charme needs some repair and that the surroundings outside the villa has nothing to offer.

This is a fantastic little hotel, rather like the one in John Lanchester's 'Fragrant Harbour'. Located next door to the public beach at Pointe Aux Sables, the hotel is about 6km from central Port Louis. Traffic is bad at peak hours, but then it is everywhere. And at Villa Anakao you are far away from the crowdedness of Port Louis but only a minutes in a car when there is not traffic.
Food is great, staff is great, laundry is great, pool is a good size, as are rooms. Not sure what else one would want. Unless you are after 4- or 5-star experience, which is not the proposition here.

The address of the hotel is very misleading. I went to 154 Royal Rd, Port Louis, as listed in website, but there is no hotel there. Then I called hotel and was told it is located 8.5km away from town centre in the south. I had to pay more to the taxi driver. You should change this address and include the name of suburb in.

The other thing is the meals are quite expensive, e.g. one bottle of soft drink costs 100 rupees, same product costs 20 rupees.

Wonderful small hotel

Villa Anakao is a small hotel, which is exactly why we chose it - and we weren't disappointed. It's a beautiful building set in gorgeous surroundings, with a wonderful pool overlooking the sea. There is a fence and glass wall at the end of the garden to mark the hotel boundary, but there's a gate with a key to take you onto the beach and into the sea, if you wanted to have a splash about. The beach is rocky (so if you're looking for swathes of white sand immediately outside your room, this isn't the place for you) but we were more than happy to soak up the sun by the pool (less sand everywhere!), and instead go for walks to enjoy the beaches we passed while out and about. We did use the beach to see some beautiful sunsets though, sitting on the rocks with a chilled beer or two.

The breakfasts were plentiful (breads, cheeses, meats, fruit, yogurt, eggs and bacon), and there's a set menu offered each evening which we took advantage of most days. The staff were more than happy to accommodate any dislikes, and made me an alternative meal on a couple of occasions which I really appreciated.

The hotel is set in a quiet part of the island and if you want to eat out or go for some drinks, someone will need to drive (or take a taxi). I personally enjoyed being in a non-touristy area, but if you want to be within walking distance of bars, restaurants and shops, you may want to consider elsewhere.

Lovely hotel in a quiet and picturesque setting.

I had a memorable week-long stay at Villa Anakao. The villa itself, the warm and helpful staff, and quiet location are all amazing. I don't like large touristy hotels and prefer a boutique style place. This was perfect in that regard. Breakfast and dinner in the gazebo right by the water was always an incredibly pleasant experience. The young chef is amazing here.

Amazing trip in paradise

My trip was excellent in this villa. It was just PERFECT ! I think I don't have another word to describe my stay in Mauritius. Peoples are really friendly. The villa is amazing and the view from the terrace is terrific.
You have to stay here if you're going to Mauritius. Villa Anakao is an equal distance from the north or the south of the island. So you can rent a taxi for the entire day and explore the country. It was a wonderful week-end here. Thank you!

Nice hotel close to the ocean (but not the beach)

I stayed for six nights and enjoyed myself very much. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the driver they work with, Anwar, is a genius at arranging visits and tours all around the island. The villa has a nice swimming pool, and the food offered in the evening is of high quality.

Great little hotel.

This is an amazing little place. Nothing modern and flashy, but wonderful owners - family run. Nothing is too much trouble.They make you feel part of the family. Rooms are clean but basic. Everything you need, but no \"frills\". They arrange sightseeing with a driver who has been with them 13 years, very reasonable prices.Food is good. Breakfast is bread, cold cuts, bacon and eggs if you wish and friut. Staff are wonderful. I would go back if I ever get to Mauritus again.

Rigtig dejligt sted med forholdsvis kort afstand til hovedstaden, hvis kan ske med lokal bus som har stoppested tæt herpå. Der er en stor swimmingpool med udsigt til havet. Haven er hyggeligt indrettet med palmer. Der er pænt og rent over alt. Personalet er venlige og servicemindede. Der serveres en god morgenmad. Hvis vi kommer til Mauritius vil vi komme tilbage hertil.

Une équipe très professionnelle et à l écoute du client , une maison d hôte très agréable, très joliment décorée, sur le bord du lagon avec accès direct , les repas sont préparés par un chef ,très copieux et qualitatif. Les chambres sont spacieuses , tres bien meublées et de style ( voir photos ).
L’emplacement de cette maison d hôte est idéalement placé pour découvrir l île (sud comme nord ) tout est à moins d 1h de route (mahebourg, grand baie,chamarel,flic en Flac et la galerie marchande (Bagatelle ).

Nous reviendrons dans cet endroit avec plaisir.

Perfect for those who value history and character

Villa Anakao is the perfect secret getaway. The hotel is built on a little piece property which is a paradise in an otherwise commercial part of Port Louis. The father/son team managing the place are true gentlemen and made our stay truly perfect. Like staying in an old manor house rather than a slick motel. Ideal for those who value history and character more than a modern, cookie-cutter resort. There is no swimming beach on the property, but the pool and hammocks were all we needed. The little outside restaurant serves simple Mauritian dishes cooked by local chefs using fresh from market ingredients. We had no desire to travel off property for our meals they were so good.

Très belle demeure coloniale. Située en bord de l eau mais pas de plage du à l érosion.
Il est conseillé d être véhiculé
personnel attentif, très bon petit déjeuner, complet et varié ( gaufres, œufs, pain, yaourt, fruits…)
Possibilité de dîner au restaurant avec un menu unique qui change tous les soirs, nous avons testé un soir c était très bon et copieux.
