The breakfast was great, the internet was fast, the staff were ok, and the gym was basic but adequate. The carpet in the room appeared to be old and ready to be changed, it made the room feel dirty. During my visit they were replacing fire doors so there was a bit of noise during the days but not unbearable. Very close to the trains for easy access, close to a supermarket and a retail shopping centre.

Lovely room, friendly staff who were quick to sort any issues, very good location! It was unfortunate that there was a mix up of rooms at check in, being given a key to a room that was already occupied by other guests, but it was quickly sorted for us.
Being less comfortable with lifts, it would have been nice to have had the option of stairs up to our room, but we were only staying overnight so managed the lifts.
The swimming pool was very small and there weren’t slots available for us to use it (I think there was a maximum of 4/6 people at a time) which was a shame, but we stopped at a great leisure centre in Mansfield on our way home to make up for it!

Room felt dated and was worn in places. Paint work chipped in multiple places and worn spots in the carpet. Whoever fitted the carpet needs glasses as it didn’t even reach the wall in some places.
Also woken up to the deafening sound of drilling in the room above at 9am. I know there are signs saying this may happen as they are replacing fire doors. But if check out is 12, surely work can start a little later!!
Also each time I went to reception it was at least a 5 minute wait before someone appeared

Hotel and room looks tired. Various bath and sink fittings were either half attached or missing, the shower controls were extremely loose making temperature adjustment like craking a safe. There was a constant buzz from the extractor in the toilet as well as a rumble from the HVAC system which cannot be turned off. The TV had very few channels turned in or recieving any signal (even the general Freeview ones were not on the TV). The blackout curtain material was good but was ill fitting so a border of light came around the curtain, something only beathen by the light from the corridor coming in from the surround of the poorly fitted door. The bedding was adequate apart from the pillows which were lumpier than school custard. Buffet breakfast was okay but £14 is a bit steep. Overall better hotels to look at in the same price range before choosing this one.

The breakfast selection was limited and not appetising with hard bacon and dry scrambled eggs- definitely not worth the £18 that it cost.
The food at dinner was excellent.
The room was a bit cold and the heater did not appear to be efficient and the hot water had to be left running for several minutes before it started to get hot.

Great stay, perfect location being minutes from train station, (exit station and walk straight up the incline). Bus station round the corner. Right next to Christmas markets, peace gardens and botanical gardens (use entrance at the side of reception). Room great and bed very comfy and room quiet, only crtisim was the separate toilet with no sink or ventilation. Breakfast and food good.

The hotel is conveniently located right in the city centre, surrounded by a wide variety of restaurants, including Asian cuisine, local eateries, cafés and bars. However, the hotel itself feels quite outdated in terms of décor. What disappointed me the most was the staff — they were very cold and unfriendly, with no smiles or greetings at all. They really need further training on customer service and hospitality.

The room size was acceptable, but the layout was quite strange. The toilet and bathroom were separated and located far apart, which was very inconvenient. Although having both a bathtub and a shower was a nice touch, it didn’t make sense that the toilet was so far away and there was no sink for washing hands nearby. The bathroom only provided shampoo and body wash, but no conditioner, which was also odd.

The only thing I truly appreciated was the swimming pool — the water was pleasantly warm, and there was also a steam room. However, there were no staff members on duty, so guests had to take care of themselves.

Pleasant room but outlook was onto a brick wall. Could not use safe as previous occupant had lwft it locked. Didn't have time to contact reception and wait for it to be fixed before going out.
Arrived at 3 pm - stated check in time. Had to wait until 3.30 for the room to be ready. My husband is disabled and all the chairs in reception were very low and impossible for him to use. One of the bar staff heard me telling my husband I would go to try and find a higher chair and he very kindly fetched chairs for both of us from the bar. He also then watched out for when we were told our room was ready and came to help us to our room with our case. A very kind gesture.
We had an evening meal in the hotel. We ordered at 5pm but weren't served until nearly 5.40.
Breakfast was OK but not as nice as usual. The scrambled egg was awful, so overcooked it was like rubber and the porridge was thick and lumpy. We have stayed at the Sheffield centre Novotel many times and we have always been very pleased with the hotel but were disappointed this time.

Staff were perfunctory; they don’t seem happy. Alina, however, was very kind and printed out our match tickets for us; we appreciated that. On checkout, we weren’t asked about our stay.
Room was cleaned each day, but towels were missing, bin liner wasn’t replaced, toilet roll not replenished; the room was not cleaned to an acceptable standard. The room was comfortable, but definitely on the warm side (there is a fan, though). The positives are the location and the size the room.

Car park very confusing, signage doesn't make sense.

Entry lobby, bar etc clean, modern and really nice.

We checked in when there was no queue, sadly the chap checking us in did so in a manner that seemed to imply we'd interrupted him doing something more interesting.

Higher level corridors, and the room, carpet dated and sporting loads of stains.

The room (Executive), dated, artex-style walls, under the bed thick on dust and with a food wrapper Large TV with freeview facing neither the bed nor sofa.

Bed really uncomfy, with very soft pillows (great if that's your thing, it's not ours).

Had a drink in bar, barman very freindly and helpfull.

Really good breakfast range, pastries under hot lamps a nice touch. Sadly, while looking good, cooked elements were bland, sausages had little taste, bacon took a lot of chewing, hash browns overcooked, scrambled egg very dry, beans good though.

Didn't go in, but the gym looked good, as did the pool, although tiny.

Look elsewhere in city centre Sheffield

On arrival, the car park situation set the tone. The small front section with about a dozen spaces was already full. The pre-arrival email was laughably out of date, talking about events from six months ago, yet failing to mention the crucial detail that beyond a set of unmarked steel shutters lies the actual covered car park. The shutters give every impression of being a service entrance for bins or deliveries, not somewhere guests should drive. Without signage or clear instructions, it was needlessly confusing. I wasn’t the only one left scratching my head.

The receptionist on Friday evening was perfunctory at best. Parking is run by a third party and costs £18 a night. I was told that leaving and re-entering would be a “problem” as you must pay at the terminal every time—completely absurd compared to other hotels where you just register your plate once and are then exempt. Breakfast is also £18, but when my family tried to treat me one morning, the hotel couldn’t add it to their room. I was assured it was sorted, yet still charged at checkout.

The bar was like a graveyard on Friday night. No air conditioning in the room meant either a stuffy room or city-centre noise through the window.

All in all, an underwhelming stay. Poor communication, unhelpful staff, confusing parking, and no atmosphere. I would not stay here again.

And a lovely swimming pool.
The property is in the heart of town so plenty of nightlife. The train station is within walking distance and the university is right there.

I never leave bad reviews, but this was booked as a treat for my son's graduation and we wanted a bit of a treat. Long queue for check in, so waited at the bar instead. No staff appeared, waiited for 10 mins crockery piled up on the tables. Asked member of staff, they located bar manager and we got served. Checked in at 3.45, our rooms still weren't ready. They found us alternative rooms, went up, ours was ready but our son's room still hadnt been cleaned. Luckily he didnt need it straight away. We didnt say anything as it wasnt really an issue as he was heading out. Our room was very clean, but sound of a fan outside meant we couldnt open the window, on one of the hotest days of the year. Went for another drink, still piles of dirty glasses everywhere. A new member of staff arrived and was horrified at the state of it and set to tidying. Breakfast at 6am, no one there, lights off, ok it was only a 15 min wait, but we needed an early get away. Breakfast good, marking of vegan and non vegan sausages would be helpful.
Theres nothing inherently bad about this hotel, its just woefully understaffed, needs renovating and many of the staff there just shouldn't be in hospitailty. They're just not interested in you having a good stay! Checkout summed it up, no asking of whether you had a good stay, just took the key card and gave a half hearted smile. If youre after an average stay in an average hotel with mainly lack lustre staff then this is a great place to stay.

The room was unbearably hot. I appreciate that there was a heat wave, but the rooms and hallways have zero active cooling and the windows bearly open. So even as it cools outside at night, the hotel does not.
I asked the reception why they could not do anything about this and was just told there was a fan. Mobile aircon units in the hallways, would have had a significant effect to cool the hotel, but the management take no action.

I wont be staying there again.

We regularly visit Sheffield and normally don't have any issues. It is our go-to hotel and we rarely stay anywhere else. We booked an 'Executive Room' and of all the rooms we've stayed in over the years (Executive and Standard), it had the smallest, most horrible shower that was moldy and didn't drain properly. On top of this, after having settled in and showered, I made my way to the loo. What I found there was disgusting. There was a smear of feces on the front of the toilet that had to have been completely unmissable for the cleaning staff but somehow was missed! In any other scenario where I hadn't already unpacked, etc. I would have demanded to switch rooms but, in this case I phoned down to reception. Someone came up straight away and the proceeded to minimise the issue stating they had expected something 'horrible'. I'm sorry. Someone else's feces (a good inch) stained in what should have been my clean, comfortable room is pretty horrible to me. He then proceeded to tell me he'd be using the toilet paper and a splash of water from my sink (further into the room where my husband was watching TV in his shorts) to 'clean' it. I politely asked if he could use some antibacterial spray or something of the like. He agreed that would be better and returned 5 minutes later with paper napkins from the restaurant and a spray bottle which I assume was some type of cleaner. An apology and that's it. The mess was cleaned but, honestly? I'm not sure we'll be back. Disappointing.

the hotel is attractive and the rooms appear pleasant. however a lack of air con during hot weather and a general \"shrug your shoulders\" attitude from staff was unhelpful. whether you advertise your rooms with aircon or not, you still have to provide some compensation (free hydration for eg!) for guests who are boiling hot in hotel rooms...staff were well meaning and some were great but generally need better training to deal with issues as they arise. rooms are also a bit tired in some areas and lobby and bar area inconvenient for working guests - few plug points and poorly designed layout next to large glass windows that reflect on your screen.

Great location in the heart of the city, we were attending a concert at Bramhall Lane which was about a 20 minute walk away. Attempted to park at hotel however no spaces left. Not a problem, parked at Furnival Gate NCP 5 mins walk up the road (and turned out to be £10 cheaper too so will use again in future). Helpful and polite staff, lovely hot shower but the hotel and rooms were just too hot. Did try turning room temp down using in room thermostat but it was already at lowest temp so has to sleep with window all night which meant we heard a lot of road noise. Didn't spoil the stay but a fan in the room would have been helpful. We paid £75 for 1 night in a standard Queen room on hotels.com, on the way out I noticed a tariff board showing £199 standard room rate if booked direct. In my opinion, I would not pay that to stay here but I guess in peak season (Christmas etc.) and given its location to city centre, Crucible, theatre etc. some people would find that reasonable. Overall, would stay again but not even try hotel car park at £18pn when NCP is half the price, didnt have breakfast at hotel as Wetherspoons 5 minute walk away and much cheaper and will have to bring a fan!

The Novotel in Sheffield was ideally located in the centre of the city, reasonably priced and certainly quiet. The room was comfortable and well maintained. I hadn't realized quite how convenient it would be until I stayed there. The breakfast was also delicious and relaxing. Thank you for a lovely stay and see you next year.

Adequate but not as expected

Firstly, the service in the hotel was excellent. Pleasant, always smiling and very approachable. Unfortunately, a couple of issues in the room were not quite what I would usually expect from a Novotel hotel. The sealant around the shower screen in the bathroom was mouldy and required renewing. The door between the entrance and the bedroom was dented. The TV remote completed all functions apart from being able to change the volume, which was a little annoying. Overall, it was just a little disappointing.

The reception guy let down the first initial impression. If you can’t smile and be friendly, you should not be front of house!
Communal areas clean, but room we stayed in was tired and in need of a refurb.. stains all over the carpets.
