Clean, great staff, perfectly functional. Small rooms if you have much luggage (two suitcases plus a daypack is a squeeze). Two people would have to be VERY understanding of each other's needs! Great for a single person though. Awesome location in Chinatown, right next to Chinatown MRT station, which has multiple lines. Lots of buses as well, but that's all over Singapore. No real downsides unless you're a diva.

Rooms are clean but Tiny!

The location of this Hotel is great, right next to the underground station, a Shopping Mall and in the bustling China Town. Lots of places to eat around there. If you are bothered about traffic noise in the mornings then this is not the place for you. Rooms are clean, however they are tiny! There is barely room to walk around the bed let alone any space to put your suitcase. If you are travelling alone, this is fine but if you are sharing a room with someone, I would not recommend it. The bathroom is a wet room, so the shower is right next to the toilet so everything in there gets wet. This place is budget friendly and fine if you are only there for one or two nights and on your own.

Small cramped room, mold in the shower, nearly 300.00 for just 2 nights, didnt even have a window, and the walls were extremely thin, dirty air conditioner, old scratched up furniture. But the staff were lovely and very accommodating, and the location is good as well.

Absolutely loved the location in the middle of Chinatown. Step out of the lobby and a great mall was across the street. Only a short distance to our favorite outdoor restaurant. The staff were all kind, cheerful and treated us as close family. The room was extremely tiny. Maybe 10' x 10', but who needs more? We were there to only sleep at night and a midday rest. We will definitely stay here again if we are fortunate enough to return to Singapore. Thank you Hotel 81!!

Great location adequate accommodations.

This building is probably well over 100 years old. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of Chinatown. Plenty of shopping malls. Great food, public transit right around the corner however, the rooms are Tiny. These are bare bones accommodations. That said, for the price this was Excellent. The people that work here obviously take great pride. The building is clean inside and out. There are no offensive smells anywhere in the building. For the price I highly recommend.

The room that I had for the price per night is not worth it…it wasn’t mentioned that the room has no windows and no shower…the shower is in the toilet…and the room is very small and had very old furniture….the beddings were clean…but it’s probably overpriced for 427 Canadian dollars for 2 nights. Only good thing is walkable to some tourists attractions. Amenities in the room is very poor.

Sorry to say but do not stay in this hotel, the room I had was nothing like the photos, the room was very small.

The hotel also had cockroaches which I informed to the staff immediately. I also informed them that I would check out in the morning and the hotel would not agree to give a refund.

I booked for three nights and stayed 8 hours only.

Was just after a place to be able to stay after being out all day for 3 days. Overall Hotel 81 is very well situated and the room has the amenities that I required. Although if you do require a larger bathroom, it is quite tight (no separate shower cube to separate from toilet/sink).

DO NOT STAY HERE. RUN. this is absolutely the worst experience I’ve had in my life and I am not a picky person. The room is like a dungeon. Super humid and there is mold on the ceiling. Hallways stink of cigarettes and there was lot of hair!! On the room floor. There us no toilet paper! Yes you reas that right. Only napkins. The shower is basically on top of the toilet. Sheets were dirty and there was a funny smell in the room, probably from the mold. I was seriously scared that I might get posioned if I stay there for more than a few hours. We had a horrible night and couldn’t sleep but was too late to change hotels. We paid $120 for this hell hole and worse than that when I told them about our experience at the reception, they stared at us and didn’t say a word?!!! Avoid this place at all costs.

Brilliant Location Compact Hotel

Its Singapore accommodation on a budget. Room although small and bathroom also compact (even compared to Japan) was good for a few nights if you dont plan spending your days in your room, and why should you. Its a bit dated, it was clean and wasn't noisy so you can get a good nights sleep.
The location is brilliant. Close to Lau Pa Sat satay club and fantastic Hawker food markets hidden across the roads in various locations and down in Chinatown (that one was the best).
The train station is across the road.
I wouldn't hesitate staying again even just for the location.
You get what you pay for, so if the Fullerton, Ritz or even Furama are not in your travel budget, but want to get down with great food all around and somewhere to start your exploration then your in the right place. Save some money to spend on all the great food all around.

Great location and good value

Hotel 81’s location in Chinatown, Singapore is very convenient to the subway system and there are many restaurants nearby. The staff were exceptionally helpful in every way. The only negative aspect is probably more to do with me than with the hotel. I was visiting Singapore as a tourist from the USA and I was not accustomed to such a small room, but we didn’t spend much time in the room anyway. Overall, the value was good and I would stay here again, should I return to Singapore.

Check in was rough. They gave us smoking rooms even though we requested non smoking room. They changed new rooms for us but there were something bit me the first night. I didn’t mention it cuz I’m thinking it might not from the bed. Second night my uncle said same thing then my aunt. Last night Hotel Manager heard our conversation he then moved my aunt to new room. I didn’t want to move being it was last night. He was understanding and very nice and professional.

Though there was lady working that day we checked in, she was rude and defensive when we told her our rooms were smelled very bad(smoking).

We loved location. It’s in the heart of China town.

We stayed in hotel 81 during formula 1 week. Room was a bit small, however it was clean and had everything we needed. Staff were excellent and were only to happy to help with anything. It is situated at n the heart of China town and right next to a metro station making it a perfect base. I would definitely return and stay again.

For the price, this hotel provided good value. If all that you want is a place to sleep in reasonable comfort then here is good place to stay. The bedrooms are quite small and provide no proper seating apart from on the bed. And the combined wash basin, WC and shower is small. But all is very clean and the rooms were tidied up and the beds made with clean linen each day of our stay. The staff were pleasantly efficient. The hotel has no guest facilities apart from the bedrooms but since it is in Chinatown there is no shortage of decent eating places close by.

If you only want to stay here for location

The location of the hotel is great, the condition of the room is very small. We book the room for 2 people which is queen bed. To give you an idea of how small the room is only one person can walk around room at a time. shower room is together with shower, toilet and washing in one small room. We did not use house keeping most of time we were there because the room was so small that not much space for our suitcase, no space to hang clothes.

Only selling point of this hotel is the location. Room was small which is not a big issue for me. However, it had no windows and it was not clean, I see hair and dustballs on the floor, that's the issue I have. I love the convenience of being to close to the Chinatown MRT station but not enough for me to stay here again should I travel to Singapore again.

Hotel is in good location, just across the road from the Chinatown train station. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Negatives included the horrible smell of smoke. We requested a non smoking room, which I’m not sure was honored as the entire second floor absolutely reaked of smoke. This might have been why our room also stank even if it was a “non smoking room”. Normally not fussed about smells but this was really bad.
Secondly the shower had about 60 seconds of hot water and between the two of us we had cold showers for three days. The bathroom was also a really strange design where the shower is basically over the toilet so the entire bathroom gets soaked every time you shower.

The lift has a strong stench of cigarette smell lingering all the time but the room is clean and tidy. Mattress is comfy and linen is spotty clean. Basic necessities are also provided like toothbrushes, toothpaste, kettle, cups, beverages and hair dryer. Comes with a tv with remote and shower water is hot & strong, very good. Location is needless to say because it’s really well located. Accessibility is excellent of course. Staffs are polite and nice! Recommended.

This is the worse hotel experience ever, we will never book this same hotel ever again. How can Singapore's hotel offer this kind of standard and service level, their staff were especially rude and unprofessional, Alisha was not a professional service staff towards the guests and has attitude problem. I think that the staff should go for service courses and learn the policies of the hotel well before giving guests a reply. The staff are unprofessional, not flexible and not welcoming towards guests. For the price paid, totally not worth it, there are better hotels around at cheaper prices with better service standards. At least for us, we will never come back to this hotel again. For amenities wise, toothbrush was not provided, and the 'tissue paper' in the bathroom was too small for usage. Should provide toilet paper instead. For guys with big hands, each piece of 'tissue paper' should be too small for their hands, i imagine you will need to pull out many pieces of it when you do your business. Also the check out time is 11am and not 12pm. The staff did not tell you about the check out late, i would have overlooked it, if not for the notice that i saw beside the counter. Also, note that no visitors are allowed after 11pm.
Overall, bad experience, unprofessional staff, and below average amenities provided.
