We had the most wonderful stay at the Vic Falls Hotel. The hotel has an incredible history, central location , breathtaking views and warm staff which ensured we had the best stay we could have hoped for. Whether spending the days lounging by the pool or walking to the falls, the hotel staff catered for all of our needs and more. It was a special trip thanks to our stay here and I couldn’t recommend it any more highly.

Lovely historic property.

We were really looking forward to our stay here and the hotel delivered. Our room was gorgeous with a really gorgeous aesthetic that balanced Classic and modern design. Service was really nice and staff very friendly (especially Lauren at check in). We organised transfers through the hotel; and all of them turned up perfectly on time which really impressed me. My one criticism would be the Livingstone Room, it was marketed as a very high end restaurant, and the service was lovely indeed; but the food was quite mediocre and forgettable and many of the wines were unavailable. In addition, the vegetarian option was the same as what I ate the night before on the terrace which was disappointing. Nonetheless, the history and character of this hotel was exceptional and we had a truly lovely stay.

It feels like the hotel is trading on its former glory. The room is charged double what it’s worth. Most wines on the menu aren’t in stock, you’re harassed constantly by helicopters and street vendors, the gym is under furnished and they had no pool! That was the main reason we wanted to stay

The property was once probably beautiful but they have not maintained it. Our room had filthy old carpets coming up from the floor. The bathroom was possibly not dirty but so worn and stained and marked up it felt dirty. I’d say they have not replaced anything but the couches and curtains which do look new but the walls need paint the baseboards are filthy. Worst of anll we found excrement ” on the stairway going to our second floor room and it was still there as we passed it 4 times. No idea how it even got there. And the staff gives the pretense of service in some cases but doesn’t really provided . Some staff seemed to care less. I couldn’t even get change to pay taxi driver and they didn’t seem to care. The food was pretty ordinary. I really fe sad about writing this as it could be beautiful if refurbished and staff trained.

Location, location, location!!! Perfect location for the falls. Great buffet and dinner show. Nostalgia everywhere. You feel you have gone back in time. Downside: the hotel needs some updating, but the lack of tourism during COVID hurt all the hotels in the area. Still beautiful location and hotel.

We book the Vic Falls hotel fir a big if luxury at the end of our trip. To be honest, it was just ok. While it’s a beautifully maintained historic hotel, we paid a fortune for average service. Little things like the mini bar & water/coffee weren’t restocked during our stay. The food was very average. We had a much more luxurious stay at Ilala Lodge across the road at the start of the trip with fabulous food and service. Save your money by booking elsewhere and go to Vic Falls hotel for high tea.

The VF Hotel was highly over priced and over rated.The carpets needed to be replaced and the bathroom tiles are old with screws holding some of them together. The towels are low quality thin and old. The air conditioner works but very loud, had to shut it off while sleeping. The breakfast buffet was average but the terrace café was good. There were no small tables to set your drinks down at the pool. Would only give a 4 star because of the location.

Very disappointing, the path was closed and this was one of the reasons we choose to stay there. The receptionist was curt and unwelcoming, initially only wanting to give us one key because they were short. The public rooms are as expected but the accommodation - delux- was very shabby, the hallways shabby, carpet rough and the gym not practical. Tea and coffee makings in the room very basic. The ornamental pool had green algae all over the bottom and there were only 3 recliners on the lawns for you to sit and take in the view (seating available on the Terrace attached to the restaurant/tea area but usually occupied). Whilst expecting some reduction in wifi reception, we had no end of problems in our room and with the public computer.

Breakfast was good and the setting amazing (although the trees now obscure the ‘river’ view promised from the room). With the exception of the receptionist, all staff were extremely friendly and polite, felt very safe in the grounds and the surrounding area. Less graffiti and litter in the town than the UK!

Dear Expidia
During my stay at Victoria Falls Hotel in 02/04/2019 I had a terrible experience with the hotel after coming back from dinner.
I ask reception to open the door of my room because I forgot the keys inside the room. The employee told me I will not open the room for you because there is an issue with your booking. The issue was that my booking is for max 2 adults however we were 3 adults, therefore he ask us to book a second room with the same rate, we asked to charge for additional one person but he was very rude and said you can get out of the hotel if you don't pay for a second room. We asked to return back our money to find another place yet he refused by saying 100% cancelation policy will apply. We finally was forced to book another hotel for one of us and leave the hotel. After that the employee didn't open the room with the excuse that the system is not working and we had to wait in the lobby for an hour until he allowed us to go to sleep!!!!!
It was a humiliating experience for us with no care of customers satisfaction.
Even if we were against the policy, why telling us this late and not during the day when we asked for extra sheets for the third person. So they at the time of check-in but they chose to tell us almost midnight when we needed the key.
I will never go back to this hotel again and would require compensation from Expedia for what happened to us.

Beautiful grounds and location. The staff were truly world-class. That being said, senior management’s involvement seemed noticeably lacking. Our room’s bathtub/shower did not drain well and each shower event ended in ankle to calf deep water requiring upwards of 10 minutes to clear.

A room service number was listed in the directory but no menu was provided. There was no small convenience shop to buy snacks or drinks except one of the shops that did have a couple of snack items seeming chosen at random.

The morning breakfast buffet was good! The evening buffet was complicated with staff located behind the counters needing questioning to get them to cook a limited number of items that were displayed raw to guests. We need to ask, “what is that?”, “do you cook it?”, and then, “okay, can you cook some for me?”, in order to activate the cooking process.

A better understanding of what visitor are seeing would definitely benefit this hotel which overall is quite good!

This property is beautiful. The service was wonderful. The food was great. Very safe area. Random story: The sole of my “water shoe” was damaged when we went to Devils pool and since we were going to be traveling a long way for the next month, I just decided to leave them so I didn’t have to lug them around. Upon leaving the room to check out, housekeeping brought me the shoes immediately because they thought I’d left them. I know this seems like a minor detail, but I really appreciated their honesty - because it’s something I just don’t see that often anymore (no matter the location). I wrote a note saying I was donating them and to give to someone in need. :) The concierge, Shannon, was awesome. The show at JJ was awesome. I can’t wait to go back someday.

The hotel is old. Rooms are small, bathrooms very small. Feels like a hospital rather than a 5 star hotel. The aircon switches on and off during the night.... needless to say, you can not have a goodnights peacefull sleep with that going on. Waited 45 min for ice that we ordered in the room. All in all this used to be a grand old lady in the hay days. Not my choice in these days and especially not at 6 star rates. Linen and bedding was great, but the bed is also creeking like an old oxwagon. Staff very friendly. Will I ever visit again.... NO

Was also beyond shocked they didn’t have bandaids and suggested I walk with an open cut on my foot 15 minutes to a pharmacy that didn’t even have band aids. This is a top-notch hotel with many amenities and potential activities. Because it is a historic hotel, the rooms are somewhat dated. The bed and the bathroom are very comfortable and well furnished, but the other furniture is fraying, at least in my room, and should be updated. Also, the hot water is too hot and should be turned lower to save on costs and avoid liability. Finally, the staff is excellent, all friendly and accommodating, and efficient to make it a delightful experience.

This is one of the best hotels we ever stayed in. Friendly and welcoming service, comfortable rooms, pleasant surroundings (especially the excellent view of the Victoria Falls, the main attraction of the area). They had a special activity desk where one can book and pay directly for many of the activities offered in Victoria Falls - game drives, helicopter flights, village tours, bungi jumping (not that we did it though), etc. This helps a lot and saves on time.

The food was excellent; well prepared and served. What really pleased us that they could cater for my wife's special dietary needs (gluten and lactose free). It was not only the chefs that knew what was required, but even the waiters and service personnel knew what to recommend.

One drawback was that the hotel is quite expensive. Everything is charged in US$ (legal tender in Zimbabwe), which makes it expensive for anyone else than a US citizen, given the strength of the currency. It is recommended to try out some of the good restaurants in town, which also serve excellent food and are in the main cheaper than the hotel.

Overall, a very pleasant stay; highly recommendable; good for romantic break-away.

Lovely Hotel but be aware of Extra Costs

The hotel is amazing and the location is great. The staff was awesome.
My husband became very ill during our first night there. The staff did everything they could to help us out and to make our stay very nice. They helped us with the “hospital” and meals.
However, we were at their mercy for staying longer - they charged us for 2 nights at the rack rate which was so much more than Hotels.com. I then booked 2 more nights on Hotels.com since the price was $150 less per night and the Victoria Falls Hotel would not match the Hotels.com price. When my husband’s situation became worse, he was flown by air ambulance to Johannesburg. I informed the Hotel and asked for a refund via Hotels.com for one night. They informed me that it was up to Hotels.com to give the refund. While Hotels.com is attempting to get a refund for one night for us - the Victoria Falls Hotel has not responded. We are disappointed about this lack of attention. We spent over $3000 at the Victoria Falls Hotel. We’re still hopeful that they respond and refund us around $450.

The setting is incredible with a walkway to the Victoria Falls. Courteous, friendly, knowledgeable staff. A spacious setting with distinct rooms, traditional design, and luxury. The restaurants offer local and universal cuisine. The breakfast at Jungle Junction offers abundant selections, with n incredibly delicious guava juice. Some of the appearances of this traditional hotel seemed old, but not in true disrepair, such as old tile in bathrooms. The mosquito nets are essential.

Great stay. Wish it could've been longer. The hotel has a long heritage and lives up to its reputation as one of the Leading Hotels in the world.
A few minor pinpricks!! No shower caps in the bathrooms!! Check out time of 10 am is extremely inconvenient as most flights leave post lunch and you have to check out before you go out for any sightseeing or touristic activities. A 12 noon check out would certainly be a huge improvement.

Best Hotel in Victoria Falls

Visit the falla from the Zimbabwe and Zambia side. Yo can cross the Zambia border very easy. Once in Zambia visit Livingston Town and you MUST do the Cheetah and Lion Walks. In Zimbabwe side there is also Lion Walks but no Cheetah. Do the Elephant ride, awesome.
Do a one day to tour to Chobe reserve where you can do a safari on online 1 day, the best from the trip. Chobe Park is just 1 hous away from Zimbabwe and on the Botswana side which is also easy to cross as the Zambian border, less than 5 minutes.

Zambia then visit livingstone and go for a Cheetah Walk, Yes with Cheetahs. On another day go to Chobe Reserve, 1 hour Drive to do safari for a day, its in Botswana but like in zambia very easy to cross the border

The best hotel experience of the whole holiday. Lovely gardens, great view of the Victoria False bridge.

Over priced for what you get! No $ in ATM's

The hotel had a wonderful location. We found the front desk staff pretentious and not very helpful. After we were checked in, the wifi didn't work in our room and the bed was tiny. We went back to the front desk to sort it out. They managed to changed our room, but the wifi was spotty and always cutting off. The rooms were on a small side and the furnishings and carpets were looking tired. I'm sure at one time, these rooms were grand. The whole process of changing room, sorting wifi etc., got old. We also found the strict dress code to the main dining room ridiculous; we had been traveling since January, safaris after safaris, obviously my husband is not traveling with a suit jacket! We were only allowed to eat at the other restaurant, on the verandah. The menu was like pub food. The least they could do is offer the same menu at the other restaurant! At one point, I counted 16 tables of well dressed older folks, eating at the restaurant. They to felt that the rules were ridiculous! These were guests of the hotel like us, traveling the world, spending hundreds of dollars to stay at a decent hotel, but because we were not wearing pearls and diamonds, we could not eat at the in house restaurant. Shame on you! Don't you realize that this old lifestyle is dead! I will never visit this place again. I would recommend everyone to stay on the Livingstone side @ Royal Livingstone Hotel. As the other features of the hotels such as the pool, breakfast room, view of the falls were fine.

Living off its past reputation

Overrun with tourists groups in the Livingstone Room and also at breakfast, reception in chaos for check in. Expensive prices throughout the hotel. Misquoted taxi prices by the hotel for arrival by over $70 per journey. Limited tea coffee in room, no biscuits included. Raised concerns with receptionist asked to wait for manager to speak who failed to show up.

Vintage hotel excellent facilities but small rooms

Nice location that is close to Victoria Falls - within walking distance. Hugh compound and well maintained. Rooms are pricey considering their sizes. Should have more chairs to sit (only one). Service is okay but not excellent. Still the best one in Victoria Falls.

Stately hotel brings you back to past elegance

Feel of a luxury hotel from the past British Empire . . . beautiful gardens, luxury accommodations, gracious staff. Great breakfast setting, nice outdoor patio eating in afternoon.

Short walk to the falls, guided by security personnel.

Very nice and classy hotel, excellent location.

Definitely the best hotel on Zimbabwe side of the Victoria Falls. The town itself is very small with only two streets. Hotel and town are safe with 0 crime. However, when you step out of confines of the hotel, you do encounter street hawkers. A firm no and continued walking would make them stop following you. The hotel has old colonial charm and a beautiful view to the bridge that connects Zimbabwe to Zambia. Some practical information:
1. VFA Airport to hotel is about 21 KM, takes about 20 minutes. We booked shuttle through the hotel by email and the driver was there with our name on a card.
2. Hotel to Zimbabwe side falls is about 10 minutes walk through the short cut. Don't go when dark as it takes you through the bush. Through the town about 15 minute walk.
3. Hotel to Zambian side falls is about 40 minutes walk including going through both sides immigration, if you already have visa, otherwise might be few more minutes extra.
4. Zimbabwean currency was annihilated few years ago. So they use US$, Euros, SA Rand and Botswana Pula. US$ is preferred. Hence, the costs are comparable to western countries. Everything is in US$. A simple souvenir is $20.
5. For US citizens single entry visa to Zimbabwe at airport is $30. You can get multiple entry Kaza Visa to both Zimbabwe and Zambia for $50 - a great value.

I was stuck by the general poverty outside the hotel. The hawkers frequently say they are hungry would beg us to trade our shoes or clothes in lieu of using cash.

Fantastic hotel in a great location.

A truly great hotel, steeped in history and old world charm. The staff were friendly and had time to talk to the guests. It felt very special to be there. Our room looked towards the Falls over the lawn and railway bridge beyond. The Livingstone restaurant had a 7 course tasting menu with matching wines which was delicious and served at a leisurely pace so we enjoyed the evening immensely. Sorry to leave.
