We really enjoyed our four night stay in this boutique hotel, just before Christmas. The staff were v friendly, the breakfast was good and the room lovely with a great balcony where we could watch the world go by.
El Born is great part of the city, many good tapas bars, the Picasso Museum only five minutes away, and many wonderful shops to explore in the small alley ways of the old city.
We were unsure why the hotel uses 'Basic' in the name, it is anything but, and is a great mid range hotel with original décor.
Our only gripe was the shower basin overflowed ! We did report this but don't think it was really sorted as we could only take very short showers. The plug needs a good clean out guys!
Overall though, we highly recommend and would stay again for sure if ever back in Barcelona.

I really enjoyed the hotel. It was perfect for me and my daughters (18 and 20). They had all of these little treats throughout our trip that added some special touches.
The only downside was that the bathroom didn't have too much privacy so I'd only recommend going with people you are already very comfortable with.

Hotel is lovely - it’s in the centre of Born which is a great area in Barcelona to be in. I had a single room which was small as expected, almost like a little studio. The shower was next to the bed which was fine, but when showering the room gets very hot and the air con is very weak at that point. It’s a quirky hotel so I would book it again but def would choose a bigger room instead with a completely separate bathroom.

After a horrid airport experience, Elena, the Receptionist, recognized our stress. She asked if she could find a ready room, would we like to go directly rather than wait until our specific room was ready at 3P. It was 9:30A. In the meantime, have a free coffee during the approximate 15 minute wait.

Walking was safe. Restaurants numerous. 6 minutes walk to the Zoo, right on the Ciutadella park. A beautiful walk. Not a lot of tourists, very few tourist traps .. a real neighborhood.
Breakfast at C&B was substantial but more European than American. No pancakes, but croissants. A variety of breads, cheeses, hot scrambled eggs and crisp bacon or cold hard cooked eggs and a variety of cold cuts soprasetto, hams, yogurt and granola or a cold cereal sliced and whole fresh fruits.
I would be remiss if I did not mention my husband’s favorite item, Cafe latte prepared daily and perfectly by Franca. Hope he remembers because I won’t do as well!

Barcelona was a little more expensive that expected. The street this is on gets noisy at night and they have earplugs available. Convenient to walk around el born and old part of the city.
However… we stayed at the beginning and end of the trip. The first room was fine, was the Double plus balcony. Second time same format of a room and the shower was in the middle of the room with no opaque glass or full curtain. The toilet was it a closet. Very odd. Also the design is quirky — neon lights in the room and ropes that you have to push through to enter the room.

Our 5 day stay at Chic & Basic was very good although the bathroom arrangement was not the best for privacy and space. Coffee area was a nice treat too. Staff were very helpful and friendly.....great job!

Location is great, just a short walk into the main area(s). Staff, were nice. They left some treats in the room as it was a trip to celebrate our anniversary. The rooms are quirky but great. Area felt safe, with some bars and restaurants close by. Only negative would be that the rooms aren't 100% soundproof, could hear some snoring here and there. That being said, I would stay here again.

Second Stay at Chic & Basic Born
My partner had stayed in this hotel on a business trip a year before our own trip to Barcelona, so he was happy to book it a second time. Well located with a decent breakfast and bar area. Building itself is lovely. Only small issues were the shower hose head was broken in Room 10 (we used the rainfall shower head, so no worries on a lack of shower) and the heating was turned up very high in the room without us knowing it was on full blast on the first night (we are Irish so are used to the cold in January, this was too warm for us and window couldn't be open all night due to outside noise)

I have stayed several times at this Chic&Basic Location, the location is very convenient and we love that is not right on the touristy part of the city. The room needed a bit of repairs on restroom wise, some light fixtures out of place and the shower splashes onto the hardwood floor. Otherwise we strongly recommend this hotel as it is close to some of our favorite restaurants.

We loved our stay here - we had a room with terrace it was spacious with a a really comfortable bed I loved the style of the room and hotel in general being in a beautiful old building, the breakfast is nice simple but plenty enough - daily fruits, yogurt, scrambled eggs and bacon , cold meats , cheese toast croissant and fresh cakes
Also you have free drinks in your room and a help yourself cafe area which is always open with simple snacks and drinks, lots of lounge areas throughout

Very interesting hotel, unlike any I've been in. Great overall experience. Loved the free Nespresso coffee and snacks. We had room 18 which was at the very end of the hall, which was great because there was no through traffic past our door, so it was quiet. The street outside however, could be a bit loud. Merce24 just started so it was a late night party and it seemed to be just outside the window. Obviously not the properties fault, just keep in mind it can be loud.

This was a nice clean and quiet hotel and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were nice. My only complaint was that there were steps to the bathroom and no hand rail which was not safe for my elderly mother. If accesibility isn’t a concern i highly recommend this hotel.

Great location near old city but not too close, very touristy though (for all old city area).
Interior decorations were fun, separate small gym, separate hangout area with coffee tea water and even ice.

Staff was receptive and informative. The hotel has a quirky, but cool vibe probably most appreciated by couples and younger guests. We had a lovely patio with a sitting cove accessible through French doors in our room. Lots of amenities like coffee, tea, still and water with gas. Also lots of comfortable open areas if you want to chill outside your room. The location is excellent—walking distance to museums, parks, the marina and lots of eateries and bars. The only drawback is that the walls are very thin and if any love is being made, you will hear about it.

The AC is not controllable in the room as it a central cooling/heating system so I had to ask for an extra doona as my room was freezing. There is no safe or fridge in the room, which is disappointing. You can access a safe in reception but that’s quite inconvenient. No fridge meant I couldn’t buy any snacks that needed refrigeration.
The room doors need to be adjusted as they slam when closing. I found it very annoying to have doors banging at all hours of the night.
The room cleaner was excellent. The coffee/tea break out area was also good.

It was a good short break hotel. The communal areas were an added bonus. We would have liked a refrigerator in our room and the toilet and shower arrangement quirky/odd. Staff were very friendly. The rope curtains outside each room were fun to look at, but not practical.

Very friendly staff. Had problem with shower drain and they fixed it on the second day. Location is convenient and hip, but also a little grungy and not particularly quiet. Did not have breakfast but looked very nice (recommend Picnic restairant right nearby). Really nice to have water refill, tea, etc. in common area. Not a fan of the design - hanging plastic rope curtains in hallways and the rooms - would be much nicer if those were removed and could see more of the beautiful old building and have a clear hallway. Also the creative design of glass showers in the middle of the room may not appeal to all, but if you are into the unusual, may be just right for you.

Room wise - the matrass is firm and comfortable, pillows are awefull. 1 electricity socket not secure in the wall and exposing wiring, very dangerous; staff said the maintenance guy will repair but never did.
Storage is very limited, just a rack with 5 hangers for your clothes. if you have 2 large suitcases it makes room very cramped; no rail for towels to dry;

"Chic and Basic" is a very accurate description. Prime location in the Born, surrounded by countless boutiques and restaurants and bars, close to the subway, lots of taxis and rental bicycles available. The rooms are redesigned to photograph well, with mirror walls and a dramatic cylindrical glass shower separating the bedroom from bath area. Bed was comfy, AC worked well in the hot/humid climate. Basic, though - no desk or workspace, no closet but a skeleton rack for hanging clothes, only 2 plate-sized shelves and no countertop or drawers in the bathroom. This meant leaving suitcases, backpacks, toiletry kits etc. all over the floor, which had stained and loose tiles in the bathroom area. 6 towels/handcloths, 2 tiny hooks. A common room down the hallway provided filtered water, coffee, and ice, but the coffee machine and ice maker were not always operational.

The hotel is weird. It’s supposed to be creative and inventive. There are funny little sayings on the walls, the package the soap is in, and the like. There is a curtain made ol beads in front of each room and, for some reason, in the middle of the room between the bed and the WC. The basic idea of the hotel is quite traditional, however. Take a beautiful old building and divide it into as many small rooms as you can, to maximize your profits when you rent them out. The hotel room is ridiculously tiny, with barely enough room to open your suitcase and put it on the floor, leaving no room to walk about, no chair, no couch, and no clever compartments to put things away. Plus, the wi-fi in our room did not work. The manager gave us a discount, which was fair, but wi-fi would have been better. The staff is very nice and friendly and the neighborhood is great. But I would not stay in the small room again

Cute Hotel, Great Location, A/C was broken
When I checked in my A/C wasn't working, but I was told there maintenance guy was gone for the day so the best they could do was bring me a fan. Then the next day, when it still wasn't fixed all they could tell me was, "we're all booked up, so we can't move you to another room." And they made an off-hand comment about how Americans like their rooms cold -- no, I just prefer it not to be 80 degree still air in my room.
Aside from 2 nights of terrible sleep, it was conveniently located, and it was quiet. All the ropes in the hall and dark lighting felt more like I was walking thru a nightclub than a hotel, but it didn't really bother me - just seemed a strange decor choice. I appreciated the complimentary water & coffee in the lounge area.
