I recently stayed at this hotel and was quite disappointed. The room was overpriced for its small size and felt cramped, while the toilet was uncomfortable. The hotel had promised me a twin bed room, but they didn’t provide it when I checked in. There was no hot water kettle, and the absence of a bathtub was a letdown. The room itself was dark and uninviting, and it was also noisy at night due to people in the street outside my window. Additionally, taxis couldn't park outside, forcing me to carry my luggage and walk about 200 meters to the entrance. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel due to its lack of comfort and accessibility.

25th anniversary getaway

The Mercer took great care of us and the breakfast was fantastic. The location is unbeatable for exploring old Barcelona as you step out the front door into the shops and narrow winding streets and alleys which give Barcelona its charm. Loved our stay.

I rarely leave reviews for hotels, but decided to leave one for Mercer because I like the place so much.
I’ve stayed here twice. First time was about five years ago, second time was in September 2024.
The best part about the hotel is probably location within the historic Roman ruins of Barcelona. Some of the walls in our room were built in the second century. Nearly every museum, restaurant, historical attraction in central. Barcelona is walkable from the hotel. Otherwise, metro station is a two minute walk from the front door of the Mercer. The only drawback to the location is that the front of the hotel is in a tiny historical street where taxis really shouldn’t go. You’re best off getting dropped off on a main street 100 m or so away.
Restaurant, staff , food quality are excellent. Rooms are a little bit on the small side, but just fine given the amazing location of the hotel. Price of the hotel is very reasonable given the incredible service and amenities.
As a sidenote, many businesses in Barcelona seem to drown there buildings with perfumes. The first time I stayed at the Mercer, the perfume was nearly overwhelming. Mercifully (pun intended) they have gotten rid of the perfume and it is so much better.

The staff here is phenomenal and very helpful. Great recommendations on where to get nontourist authentic tapas dinners very quiet off the path where everybody is walking and less than a five minute walk to anywhere you really want to see. I will only stay here if I come back to Barcelona

I was impressed with the Mercer welcome and property at first, but later wanted to go to the rooftop pool - that is where it fell apart - there was a pigeon infestation and the pool deck was full of pigeon droppings and the birds were using the pool as their watering hole. There were feathers in the water it was unhygenic and nobody was around likely as it was distateful. Also when attempting to pay at the end of my stay the card machine did not work and the staff member Luca yelled \"declined\" as if my card was in fact the issue when it was not - was their machine and gave some babble about EU rules not allowing the remaining charges to be added to card on file already. Made no sense and the debacle left me leaving late for the airport. Not a great time.

A beautiful jewel of a boutique hotel, perfect in every way. Excellent location, quick efficient service, far from the madding crowds yet walking distance to everything. The only downside and very upsetting-no way could we watch the biggest sporting event-the Olympics ! No arrangement was made for this special event.

The hotel is located near a main street but off it by 100 yeards or so on narrow one way sreet. This is part of its charm and why it is not nosy. The staff could not be more helpful or professional and the rooms are fabulous.

Very nice hotel. Great location in the French quarter. Staff was very friendly. Had a Junior suite with an awesome balcony over looking the courtyard. However, bed sagged and left our backs aching. Told the staff after the first night and they said they would look into it but they didn’t. Got a cot for the third night which was more comfortable than the main bed.

Stunning Barcelona Stay

What an elegant hotel! Tucked away in the Gothic Quarter, but accessible to so much by foot, the hotel feels ancient and modern at the same time. The rooms have huge ceilings, which makes them feel palatial. Everything was clean and comfortable. The staff was very attentive and because we were there during the holidays, they left treats for us on New Year's Eve. It was so special! Truly a beautiful hotel.

A five star hotel with outstanding staff. Ordered often from room service and had promp and very good food. We never had the breakfast but at 48 eur. it is really embarrassingly high.
The area has a fair number of homeless and I would not feel comfortable returning on foot late at night.
Otherwise I would definitely recommend the Mercer.

We did a lot of research on hotels in Barcelona and were excited about the Mercer but ended up disappointed. Part of the reason we booked was because of the rooftop and the pool-both of which were closed. Upon check in we asked about them and were told there was some construction so there would be some noise NOT that they were totally shut down and not useable. Felt like a big bait and switch. There were not a lot of offering at the hotel-poor mini bar, no wine opener, wine glasses, which I would expect at this level of hotel. Our room also had a lot of flies-dead and alive which was gross and annoying. The location is great, the staff is lovely, and the building is very pretty but did not deliver on expectations especially given the cost.

Expensive but worth it if you want to stay in a nice hotel in this particular neighborhood, which is historic and quaint and really lovely. Despite the high volume of tourist in the area. The only complaint I can muster is that the mattress sagged to the side because I think it has been well worn into and needs to be updated. The food was delicious and I like the roof top deck where I could escape the bustling city with a drink and book in hand. I would stay here again.

2/5. Be careful with extra charges. Location is great if you want to be in the old town and walk a lot. Service - although concierge was trying hard to welcome us then it was okay, nothing outstanding.

But the worst service we received from the housekeeping team. Wow, never I experienced such a bad attitude - they were trying to come in early in the morning each day, after we told them a bit later please they rudely were saying “then put a card on the door” ~ whaat? Just some in a bit later not like 9 am. Okay, so they were coming back again after noon, and can you imagine when we were checking out we were charged extra almost a hundrer euros for late housekeeping services. The bad attitude from them plus the charge really made a sour feeling about hotel after we left. Plus we were charged for some water that we asked in the room, despite the fact they told us when checking in that it’s free and if we need more (than a tiny bottle for a person a day) we should just ask. Well I think they should’ve mentioned that you may be charged for that.

Rooms are small, not so clean or new but okay. Modern style which I liked. To sum up property is nice, some of the stuff members in the lobby were welcoming, but not all, and other things were not perfect.

A Best Ever Experience

A stunning, historic property built into ruins in the heart of the Gothic Quarter (ideal location in central Barcelona) made this hotel one of the most unique I have ever encountered. The service surpassed the incredible surroundings. Champagne at check-in; valets who will pick up your car at a different location so you don’t have to navigate the narrow, winding streets to the hotel; complimentary in-room beverages stocked daily; two lovely restaurants—one casual, one more formal; an outdoor courtyard and juliet in the room; doormen who will walk with you if you are unsure of directions; locally made sweets at turndown service; the list goes on and on. The Mercer makes you feel special without pretension and tops my list of favorite hotels in the world.

This property was above and beyond our expectations. What we gave up in view, we gained in privacy and quiet. It was nice to come back after big days and nights to a lovely calm environment and sleep uninterrupted from city noise. The hotel is inside of a mideival castle. The ancient walls you can touch. The Mercer suite was amazing and the hotel exudes luxury and old world charm at the same time (no easy task). The staff went above and beyond to make my wife's birthday an amazing experience. From delivering a birthday cake to arranging dinner reservations for us. The staff truly made this a trip to remember and we will definitely be back. Pro tip: After booking, the hotel sends you restaurant recommendations. Take them and ask them to help you book! Every restaurant on the list was amazing!

The building is beautiful. I love the history and architecture. The roof terrace and the garden restaurant in the lobby are both very pretty. The rooms were unique while still modern. The lighting in the bathroom made it a little difficult when trying to get ready and put makeup on but I guess it's understandable in an old building.

We had booked two nights at The Mercer and had to cancel because there was a death in the family and we had to go home right away. We contacted the hotel immediately to notify them of the situation - four days prior to our check in - and they refused to cancel the reservation or refund any of what we paid. I've never been in a situation exactly like this but I have had to cancel hotels in the past for other reasons and I've never experienced customer service who refused to be helpful in any way. Fortunately the Hotels.com team was very helpful in doing everything they could to remedy the situation and I'm grateful to them for their understanding during an already difficult time.

Excellent and friendly staff. They try to help and assist ur personal travel plans. Food is great and room is so pretty. You feel like staying in a small castle or museum. Definitely special mood to experience in Barcelona.
