We had a wonderful time at Zachary Dunes resort during spring break!

I have to say that because of several bad reviews here on Google Maps, we had some doubts about this place, but after considering what's important to us on a vacation, we still decided to book it and we did not regret this decision. Here's a summary of our thought process, why we chose to book, and our overall experience.

We were looking for a nice resort on the beach in the area between Santa Barbara and LA and this hotel met all criteria. We wanted nice rooms, ocean access without a highway separating us from beach, a fun swimming pool and a whirlpool. Zachary Dunes had it all and was a lot cheaper than other hotels that were closer to Santa Barbara. Most bad reviews focused on some noise in the rooms, no real ocean view in the rooms labeled as \"partial view\" (thank you dear reviewer who wrote that - we decided to spend $20 more per night for full ocean view and it was stunning!), and people unhappy about parking being extra cost. Oh - and someone complaining about avocado toast costing $19. Our perspective? Noise is manageable and understandable given many of the guest are families with young kids like us. View from the room - was totally worth the extra cost for better view. Parking - unfortunately, this seems to be the standard in California and they were transparent about it when we booked so it wasn't a surprise. Just ask how much it is in advance and add it to your budget.

The hotel was excellent, we ate at the hotel’s restaurant and enjoyed being right on the beach.
The only negative thing was not the hotel but Expedia showed on their photos wasn’t what we got. Expedia’s photo makes it look like it’s a patio on the ground level instead we got a 2nd floor beach view with a balcony. We still had a great time.

The craft cocktails, coffee service at the truck and the main restaurant were top notch. I didn’t give a full 5 stars for the property as our room had a musty smell. I was a bit annoyed at the $45/night fee for SELF parking on top of the resort fee. It is highway robbery for a small beach town. It was a lovely stay but don’t know if it was worth $500/night

Only downside was the pool was packed with kids. Kids were also overloaded in the Jacuzzi. Just a suggestion but most jacuzzi areas are for adults only.

Checking in it was good. We got in the room to rest and refresh to go to the pool to my surprise I got in the shower and the body wash and shampoo in the shower it was empty good thing I always bring some. When I saw the housekeeper I ask if she can please refill the shampoo and body wash she said she didn’t have it in her cart she’ll have somebody bring it to the room never happened. They need to check rooms before checking in people. Also staff not the best service and communication skills need to be retrained for better service. The bartender was good other than that not so much.

The location is awesome, right on the sand and 15 minute walking distance to the marina for restaurants.

We were in room 209 which was a walk out ocean front room, with living room and separate bedroom. The couch cushions have seen better days and wasnt very comfortable. The 4 seat dining table was nice, small fridge and microwave worked well. However there were ants around the \"kitchen\" area. The livingroom area was large and nice overall but noisy, because of the foot traffic in the hallway. With the door closed you can hear peoples conversations word for word as they walk by. Also noticed a fat black spider up on the ceiling.

The bedroom was very quiet and the bed and pillows were super comfortable.

2 bathrooms/showers were much appreciated.

The front desk service was unbelievably bad, the young female did not want to listen at all, or give a chance to see anythig that might have been different than what she seeing on the computer. I owen a small co. Of 23 employees, i hope i never hire anybody like her for front desk to greet customers.

Swear the valet guys were the best ever. So so helpful. We are a family of 4 and drove with a packed car. The pool was great. The location was so nice. It was great to have a Cali trip and not be in San Diego. The beach wasn’t crowded and the free rentals gave the kids surf board time

The ocean view was excellent. The heated hot tub pool was cold. Barely useful. The restaurant the waiters obviously were not getting along. Our food was okay but nothing great especially in light of the price. The electronic key often didn’t work so we had to get help often which was an inconvenience. Also it is expensive to park at the property with no other options close by.

Our room looked over the beach and was perfect for my girlfriend's birthday. Ground floor was nice so we could bring our bikes right to our back door. Only problem was our room was right next to a gate that lead to the beach so early in the morning all you hear is the gate slamming shut.

Oceanview room and being able to walk out was nice and convenient but with an extra price. The couch in the room was pretty ran down and stained with dirt. Several curtains in room had stains on them as well. Dive bar which is the game room and bar closed at 7pm on a Saturday night, you would think it’s a resort that it would be open much later for guest to enjoy. No pets allowed in the pool area.

Hotel was too expensive for the type of room. The tub was scratched and water was rusty when turned on. There were loud footstep noises on the second floor until past midnight it sounded like workers and the elevator was not working and workers naturally were noisy but the noise started before 8AM on a Sunday. On top of the pricey room, the parking was 49 dollars a night. I never leave reviews, but this warrants one. I will say the food was very good and lobby was clean but the room wasn’t up to par.

I upgraded my room to oceanfront and the front desk gave me a price. I was charged double that price, I had to move rooms because a/c did not work. A manager was to contact me, as none were there at check out and they had nothing showing I signed for the double charge. Nobody contacted me. Ever.

A fabulous place to stay, clean and well maintained grounds and rooms. The staff were always friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Presidential Suite and was worth every bit. My family stayed here for several weeks and enjoyed themselves. Beautiful views of the dunes and ocean, food at Ox and Ocean was wonderful. Thank you for a pleasant and revitalizing stay!

This was a motel that Hilton decided it absolutely needed to throw a terrible interior decorator at, remove humans as staff, and make everything as uncomfortable as possible. We are talking bottles on the wall, one hand towel, no real coffee cups or coffee anything anywhere. The food is beyond trash. Who on earth consciously takes a beautiful handful of strawberries and grills them? Therer was only one waiter and one housekeeper who were nice. Everyone else is either asleep or doesn't care. This place is an abomination and I literally feel like I got trapped and robbed for four days. No robes. No slippers. No heat. Walking around here is a nightmare they covered up with stupid names for buildings which makes things more confusing. Be ready to pay 45 per day to park in a lot with broken lifts so you have to carry your bags upstairs. Just terrible in every single way. I hope Dominic gets a better job and leaves this hole.

Zachari Dunes is a beautiful property located on an incredible beach near sand dunes. The hotel's restaurant is beautiful and the food was great. We ended up in an ocean front room and the views were spectacular. The room itself was a bit dated and smelled a bit mildewy. The shower drain was clogged so you stood in your shower water a bit, which is gross, but otherwise the room was clean. Would go back!
