Room was very good and quiet.
Bathroom could have been cleaner in places.
Faulty light reported but no action as was the crack in the bathroom basin.
Restaurant offer was average with a regular trail of customers passing through with luggage.

Room was OK (King Suite), neighboured with another room - unfortunately neighbours were far too loud. (We used ears plugs otherwise we'd need to change rooms.
Lack of drinking water in the rooms. The room itself was a bit dim with worn furniture. Bathroom lacked ventilation and thus accrued mold on the blinds.
Had several disturbances in the night with noise. Poor signal with a small outdated TV.
Good large fluffy bath towels, comfortable bed. Nice view from the window. Good breakfast selection.

The hotel is full of character. The staff are pleasant and the bar and restaurant area is lovely. Breakfast is lovely and fully. The restaurant is nice and the food offered is really good. The rooms are good. The bathroom could do with additional shelving space, the shower is powerful but the shower knob can be difficult to turn and grip.

Phoned prior to booking to explain we had mobility problems and garlic intolerance. Was told there would be no problems and booked for 3 nights. Got there for Sunday dinner, garlic in everything. I got a slice of turkey, a few french beans and a load of carrots. Nothing else. The breakfast was cold so the next morning we asked for poached eggs that were served in a dish of cold water, we didn't bother with breakfast on the third morning as we had stomach cramps and diarrhea, we contacted 111 and it was confirmed that we had food poisoning.The hotel had steep steps and we had booked a superior which we wss told was ground floor. It was top floor and furyhest away frim lift. We were downgraded to ordinary room on yhe ground floor. There were other guests with mobility problems, one had to move to another hoyel and the oyher had to be assisted into the hotel by other guests. The hotel took the booking from Apex that book for people with mobility problems so the hotel knew what yhey were doing. Was tild we would get refund for breakfast and having the room downgraded. We did ask to book by phone but was told we had to do it via internet. The hotel receptionist tried to get management to conyact me but we had to wait until we had left the hotel before they phoned. and said it was unfortunate and that they didn't do refunds because we booked, as yhey had told us to by phone.Expidia do not give money refunds. This hotel is next to useless and are hiding behind a corporate glob

We stayed here because of the location to Lapland UK with our children. Not happy that the staff at breakfast asked if we had ever been to the Real Lapland! Detrimental to our magic!

The room wasn’t cleaned the best, full bag of jelly babies left under the bed and no tea bags in the room only coffee for the morning? Also the beans were burn when we went for breakfast.

The staff were really helpful and the room was comfy and clean. We had an evening meal which was lovely, but unfortunately we waited a long time as there was only two people serving. They were extremely understaffed. We got up for breakfast at 8:30am and by the time we got down to the restaurant, most of the food had gone. Again there wasn’t enough staff to monitor and the guests were constantly asking for the food to be replenished. It would have been nice to have been asked for tea or coffee to be served, instead of going to big flasks and helping yourself, which is a shame, as you can see that the hotel is a working progress, but adding more staff, would help make it a better experience.

Lovely stay at Hollins Hotel overlooking the Peak District. Our room was very spacious and opulent! The staff were extremely welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. The hotel was clean and decorated beautifully for Christmas and the food good. Will definitely stay again.

We got off the ferry at Holyhead at 7pm and arrived at the hotel at 21:40 to be met by a very helpful and pleasant young lady. We got our room key and headed to our room. Opened the door and oh my god. Very dated and creepy. Nothing like the photographs on site. We woke up the next morning and on viewing the hotel we then understood it was kept that way. Saying that the bed was very uncomfortable it creaked why one of you moved. The heating didn’t work so we had a small oil filled radiator. Very cold that night. When you walked in the room the wardbrobe moved. Windows full of condensation too. Ceiling lights covered in dust and cobwebs. Breakfast was very good. Would I stay again. Probably not.

Pros: Room was clean and well presented, shower pressure was very good with plenty of hot water
Cons: Room was small, only room for one person in en suite. Bed so uncomfortable that we both woke up with bad backs. Parked in overflow car park late at night, no lighting from there to reception which could be daunting for the elderly or single women.

Fantastic staff.

Recently enjoyed a 2nt stay for a family wedding. The staff are simply the best - across the board from the reception, restaurant team, bar staff, function 'master of ceremony' - even the housekeeping team, could not have been more friendly, professional, helpful, courteous and keen to go above and beyond the make ours and the rest of the guests stay a thoroughly excellent experience. Without being seen or heard, the back of house team knocked it out of the park because their efforts enabled everything to play out seamlessly at front of house - well done all of you! Particular shout out to Katti who looked after us at breakfast and could not have been more helpful.
Yes, the rooms are a little dated but were clean, comfortable and gave all the expected facilities (tea/coffee/biscuits etc. TV, hairdryer, iron, very comfortable bed, bath /shower, toiletries & good towels). If you're wanting 5*, spend 3x more and go elsewhere but this place gave everything we could need at a very affordable price. We had an absolute ball and look forward to the next opportunity to stay here again.

Hotel is very dated and in need of a serious revamp. The electrical sockets with multiple adapters were very concerning and the bedroom windows! Some of the staff were very friendly but others not so. Parking was a nightmare as our two night stay clashed with a party and a wedding; parking down a big hill not perfect!

hotel friendly enough. bar and restaurant lovely. i was in the wing off the restaurant. there is a mean little door, a shabby cold corridor to get to it, the room was quite shabby and badly designed.
the bed light switches were hard to reach from the bed and were really bright spotlights. the plug socket near the bed would not accept a plug.
The other sockets were the other side of the room which made charging my phone over night difficult.
The armchair was the wrong side of the room for sitting in to watch the tv.
The bedding was worn, with worn frayed patches.
all in all it just felt old and tired.

We stayed one night in a family room. Our daughter’s bed was absolutely tiny and very poor condition. It was a tiny one seat sofa bed and the mattress was very thin. Daughter complained she could feel the spring of the mattress as it was so thin. Our bed for myself and husband was great. It was a super king four poster bed. Room itself was clean but very dated. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was ok but only one type of coffee from a dispenser. No cappucino or latte on offer.

Another amazing stay!

This is is 2nd time I’ve stopped here within the past few months. We come here this time for my daughter’s 18th birthday. We booked the garden party room plus 2 extra rooms for all of our guests to stay. All of our guests enjoyed the stay and will come back again. The most important thing is my daughter had an 18th birthday to remember.

It smelt. The key card wouldnt work. The sink was chipped, the carpet was ripped. The bathroom was dirty. The furniture was covered in dust. We paid 128 pounds for 1 night. Ive taken pictures because the bathroom floor would have been dangerous for a child. It had all sharp off cuts.

Really impressive building, architecturally fully of history. Lovely, welcoming and super hospitable and respectful staff. A bit of a family feel to the place. Warm, comfy, spacious and great shower. Super accommodating of dogs with treats, bowls and bins. Dogs even permitted in the restaurant! I didn’t try the restaurant but breakfast menu looked lovely. In terms of value for money - excellent. Highly recommend.

We had a very Comfortable stay at this lovely Hotel, with Friendly and helpful staff, our room was very nice if a little dark. Most of the food was very good, we did have problems with missing orders in the kitchen which resulted in long delays between courses two days running. We feel this Lovely Hotel lacks a little love.

Beautiful building from outside but inside a little tired around the edges. The bedroom was fine (if a little hot even with window open) but the bathroom definitely needs an upgrade-dirty grout and sealant and worn/dirty floor, no toilet roll holder. Perfect hotel in a perfect location.

We wanted somewhere to stay the night ready to go to the airport early hours in the morning and this hotel was ideal. We was only there for about 12 hours, just somewhere to eat and rest our heads until we had to set off to the airport around 4am. I wish we had longer here. Everything about the hotel was perfect I definitely will be booking again and stay for a few days.

Our room and bathroom was just quite dirty, I had stains on my quilt cover. In the bathroom, there were urine patches around the toilet, the floor wasn’t clean, there were hairs in the sink and the shower holder was broken.

We had a lovely stay here. While you can see things are being updated, the attentiin to detail wasnt there. Our room, room 1, was a suite. Dated furniture and the windows wouldnt open. Thankfully we didnt stay on a very hot night. The bed was huge,
and a lovely comfortable matress. We ate sunday lunch at the hotel, the food was lovely, the dining room needed cleaning, im not hugely fussy, but it just doesnt appear to have the attention to detail where nessasery, which lets it down.

The hotel is in such a beautiful setting! It was lovely to wake up and see the rolling hills of the Peak District in the morning. The staff were lovely and the breakfast in the morning was great. However, the high chair we were given for our little one at breakfast could have done with a wipe over. The lift wasn’t working during our stay which made things tricky with the car seat but it didn’t ruin the stay. Overall, a lovely stay and would highly recommend!

Noise issues a bit of a problem

Location great , staff lovely apart from one who lived in staff area . Playing music and making noise at 1:30 am on our 2nd night 🙄 still waiting for manager to contact me about it . Staff on site were very good at helping to resolve the issue. But we paid for a suite to relax and enjoy but were unable to do this at night.
On the first night we had to move to another room as there was a Christmas party on down below our room , again staff on site were apologetic as they said we should have been warned when we booked .

Rooms full of damp and mould

The rooms were full of damp and mould. The mould was visible on the walls and the damp has made the wallpaper blow and peel in some areas. The smell of this issue was awful. Our other issue was I booked 4 weeks in advance and asked if the family room which sleeps 4, which the picture indicated 1 x double and 2 x single beds but the description didn’t state this. I asked if there was enough beds for 4 when I booked as otherwise I could cancel for free. I received a reply at 3:09 the day before we arrived, so 9 minutes after I could cancel for free, telling me that there is only one additional bed therefore that meant one child has nowhere to sleep. The receptionist was the best part of the stay, she arranged for us to have interconnecting rooms so we all had a bed and she was a credit to the hotel. Everything about the stay was awful. Aside from the damp and mould the quilt was comfy, the pillows were ok and the mattress was rock hard. Also the room walls and ceilings are thin and as we stayed on a Saturday night and there was a wedding, around 1-2am when people came back to their rooms, above us and to the side all you could hear were people having ‘fun times’.
