Staff very helpful, lots to do (including free video games!), nice pool and sauna, gym not too bad for a hotel. Very kid and dog friendly and lovely grounds.

A little far for local food options but is worth it as it was nice and relaxing. There are also food options in the hotel itself. Lots of options for breakfast buffet.

Would definitely go back again hopefully for longer.

Breakfast was excellent 5* Facilities were good - 4* pool and sauna used but some of the loungers a little stained and a smell in the pool of poo which made us thinks the pipes were blocked? Stale musky smell in the bedroom but this was due to the hotel having been closed and heating was on but room needed airing. Overall this was a lovely relaxing stay

Very disappointing stay.
Check-in was over an hour late, which was frustrating after a long day. It felt like the hotel was prioritising corporate Christmas events over regular guests. When we finally got into the room, the shower flooded immediately and was unusable. On top of that, the electronic room key didn’t work, leaving us locked out and waiting around 20 minutes for someone to let us in. Overall, the experience showed a lack of basic maintenance and poor customer service. I would not recommend this hotel.

Very disappointing stay. Despite arriving earlier in the afternoon, we were not allowed to check in until exactly 4:00 pm. Once in the room, the shower drain was blocked and caused the bathroom floor to flood. To make matters worse, the digital key did not work at all, leaving us locked out of the room. We had to wait around 20 minutes for a staff member to come and open the door. Felt the hotel favoured large corporate events over regular visitors. Overall, the experience was frustrating and poorly managed. I would not stay here again.

I’m not sure what to call the “room” we were given. Room feels generous. It was more like a makeshift hideout tucked into the eaves of the building — cramped, dark, and honestly comparable to a prison cell… though to be fair, most cells probably get more natural light.

Things went further downhill at dinner. I ordered a vegetarian meal and was served a dish containing more chicken breast than a Nando’s family platter. We complained, they whisked it away, and proudly returned with a “fresh” vegetarian dish — except they’d literally just picked the chicken out and forgotten a bit. Cue round two of “spot the bird.” After pointing it out again, the plate mysteriously reappeared minus the final piece of chicken. Magical.

This was, without question, the worst experience we’ve ever had at a De Vere hotel. And the saddest part? This was our fifth visit. We used to love this place. But after the prison loft and the chicken salad that refused to die, it’s safe to say this will likely be our last.

I stayed in the mansion house, one night stay for work, food was great, excellent service, breakfast was lovely, lovely greeting by staff despite the early hour. Room was amazing, very quiet, gorgeous decor, my only gripe and its petty, the standby button didnt work on the tv remote, you could use it to turn tv on, but it wouldnt turn the tv off for some reason, no way to set sleep timer. It is now my new goto place to stay when i have to go to head office.

We arrived very late as pre planned with the property, we had a room for 3 however the sofa bed was broken and we also didn’t have any bedding for it. Rang reception and a very helpful man brought a fold out bed and some bedding, apologised and said the bed should have been prepared for us. This was an inconvenient start for us being so late, however it was resolved. The property is beautiful and a really lovely place. Lots of choice for breakfast and really nice food.

You don’t actually get what you pay for. The room was in another building, not what the picture shows, there was no power in the room, reception didn’t answer the phone and I was running late for a wedding. Eventually they answered and resolved the issue.

Promised much - didn’t deliver

Honestly conflicted on my stay as based on the location of the room and the being the root cause of my dissatisfaction, it was okay. Initial booking was no issue and received the usual comms prior to arriving along with an “offer” to upgrade to a room in the “Manor House” which I went for. The room was on the top floor (3rd) at the end of the corridor and initial everything was okay. Some dropped popcorn on the stairwell but nothing untoward. The room allocated was however down the Restaurant end of the manor and the smell of the vents from the kitchen meant it was impossible to have the window open while the kitchen was open due to the smell of cooking fats venting - combined with the area at the bottom of the stairwell being used to store dirty plates from service - again leading to a strong odour up the staircase to the rooms. Finally this morning I noticed some rather unclean bedding as I pulled my covers back, not what I was expecting at all! I avoided breakfast…. Finally on the stairs on the way out… the popcorn from the previous evening….

Relaxing Family Break with Excellent Hospitality

We had a lovely family stay at De Vere Wokefield Estate. From the moment we checked in, Alex and Taz were very welcoming. The room was comfortable and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was very relaxing.

The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of fresh options – definitely one of the highlights of our stay. Another highlight was the swimming pool, which our daughter absolutely loved and didn’t want to leave!

Overall, it was a really enjoyable stay for our family and we’d be happy to return again.

Nice outside grounds but hotel not so much

The stay wasn’t good. The hotel double booked both my bookings with another family. They took around 30mins to sort it out. The room itself isn’t worth the price I paid for it. No water given. The room needs a proper clean before handed over. There is a lack of lights in the room. The hotel has a horrible layout with confusing corridors. The bathroom is nice.

When front desk were notified, the man was incredibly rude. Hot water was unable to be fixed at the time (only once we were leaving) and they could not provide an alternative room.
Hotel was otherwise nice however these two things ruined the stay.

Hotel in De Vere chain adjacent to busy golf course. The hotel is of a good standard, the room was fine, and the facilities function satisfactorily. As with all chain hotels it performs a function and does it well, but lacks charm. Perfectly satisfactory and I would happily stay again if looking for a hotel in the area near Reading. About 20 mins out of Reading and 20 mins from Silchester.

Nice place, needs air conditioning

Lovely, setting and beautiful grounds, when we arrived, we had lunch in the bar. The food was pretty basic and we had to have a few items rectified. The room is very tired and be aware they do not have air conditioning. I appreciate it’s not listed when booking a hotel of this size and statue you would expect it to be a given and wouldn’t think to check. Bearing in mine a temperature was around 20°. The room itself felt like it was about 35. It desperately needs air-conditioning.

Lovely hotel and room, check in was a bit confusing as we weren’t sure which building Reception was in-ended up having to get back into the car with all our luggage and driving to the lodge which was some distance from the Reception we’d gone to-there are two.
Bathroom looked lovely initially, however when used the toilet flush need Amazonian strength and the shower didn’t drain it could also have done with a bit of Mould and mildew remover.

Very disappointing restaurant

We had gathered for a family meal together in the restaurant, we entered at 7.30pm. Sadly the service was terribly slow - it was ages befoer our starters arrived and I think it was not until 9.15pm that main courses arrived, apart from the 2 salads! One of the staff checked in if everything was okay - but obviuously not as 2 of us were without any food! Then, when it arrived it was on a hot plate(!), some of the salad was very old and had gone clear and had seen better days, and then the chicken was too tough to cut! Then there was a further delay to get our desserts which did not include any cooked items! There were lots of staff around but they did not see, to want to be seen or to help with simple things like getting more water.
In the morning we came back for breakfast - there were no plates, there was food on the floor which people were just walking on around the hotel there were used glasses and plates of food that looked like they had been there for a good couple of hours. Needless to say I won't be rushing back here! Very disappointing for a De Vere hotel, I expected better.

Booked in April 19 people for family get together. Dinner on one night ordered week before together with meal choices. After at restaurant for 7.30 booking. Food arrive at 9.15 and they had run out of one item ordered! To be fair we were given a discount but for some family members it was far too late to eat. Following day there was a huge wedding from late morning to late evening which utilised all of the public areas in Wokefield where most of us were staying. This meant there was nowhere available for us to socialise and chat which was the purpose of the weekend and why we chose this hotel. Perhaps we should have been advised of this in advance. On the plus side staff were friendly and helpful, everywhere was clean with the exception of glasses and cups not cleared from tables in communal areas, rooms a good size and beds comfy.

Overall stay wasn’t great. Asked for earlier check-in at 12 and 2pm but still wasn’t available. The iron in the room was dirty and burnt my shirt for my friends wedding. The room was very smelly. Smelled like damp and it wasn’t just my room, even my friends room smelt the same.

The biggest disappointment was the room service offer. I was amazed when my order turned up in a paper bag and was like a just eat order. I paid the restaurant price so at least expected a plate and cutlery.
If I had been told I would made other plans. For such a high end venue it was travelodge offer.

I liked that this was a very quiet location, the staff seemed pleasant when speaking with them.

I would say that there were refurbishments going on there during my stay - it would have been nice to know that at the time of booking. Rooms are average in my opinion - but that is not a bad thing. Corridors and hallways have spiderwebs and dust build up - it would be good to keep these areas cleaner, but again it’s not a huge down point as you don’t stay in a corridor.

The reception and communal area has been nicely designed and has a very relaxing yet hip feel to it.

I would come back here if I needed to be in the area.

Beautiful grounds, well furbished rooms & friendly staff who are keen to help. Perfect place for a chill out break. The pool is warm, and the area is well maintained. The changing rooms for the pool are clean but could do with some maintenance. Breakfast was great. There was a large selection of hot & continental breakfast items. 100% recommended this hotel.

Checked in fine, discovered that our room (which was fine) was over a party with music until midnight, reception moved us to another quiet room (and it was) but it was smaller and cold. Reception arranged for a portable heater whilst we were at The Mansion House so room was warm when we got back. Reception did their job. Breakfast room was full in the morning so we had breakfast in The Pantry, service was in experienced, food was not great (sausages so burnt that no one ate them), rest was not hot, only one jug of milk by the cereals but none by the tea/coffee machines!!! The whole place was cold, so no where to sit comfortably and chill out. Shame we were looking forward to a nice night away.
