The property felt old. Everything was great, walking distance and safe/quiet at night. I was staying at a different hotel a few days before checking into Wanchai88 so I knew about the laws on plastic recycling and items, basically the hotel doesnt give out any toiletry items (tooth brush, comb, tooth paste etc) anymore as well as water (because of the plastic bottle). However literally i was staying somewhere else 5 mins away and they have wooden comb/toothbrush and water in aluminum cans so i dont understand why Wanchai has to cut costs and skim customers out of a pleasant time? Last year my friend stayed at this hotel and was given free credits to get the water/toiletries in the vending machine on the first floor for FREE, now you have to pay out of your pocket just to stay at the hotel.

First floor lobby personel (not reception on 3rd Floor) was not welcoming, yelled at you when you cant speak Cantonese as they struggled to communicate in English when all it takes was a simple glance at my phone screen as i am trying to ask for help in your language using a translator. Asked lobby guy to hold our suitcases for 1 hour after we checked out and told him I have a laptop so be careful and he felt upset and grumpy about it. Honestly im not even sure if this is just the type of quality and culture HK is upholding or its specifically with this hotel only because even a street food lady at 4 am who did not understand a basic question in English smiled and talked to me.

We selected a bigger room and indeed very spacious. Engineered wood flooring, simple lines and decor and lots of overhead lighting in addition to an enormous window. BUT no outlet or USB PORTS near bed. Only ONE outlet in the room to charge devices. And two small elevators that can fit just about six people for the whole hotel including for service needs and one was out of order! Glad we were on the top (31) floor otherwise we could never have gotten in like so many others in lower floors.

An okay stay in the heart of a bustling area.

I had an okay stay here; a very typical Hong Kong experience, I think, with a bustling, busy, semi-shabby but authentic neighbourhood all around, and the hotel conveniently near the main Wan Chai station.

The hotel staff weren't exactly overburdened by friendliness, from my brief dealings with them; no smiles, warmth or chit-chat, compared to other hotels I've stayed in recently.

The room was fine; it felt a little dated - seeing things like a DVD player was unusual in this day and age - and there were a few other quirks I wasn't a huge fan of. (Not least the several minutes I spent trying in vain to find the control for the electronic blinds, tucked away in an unobvious spot like some kind of Escape Room switch.)

I also noticed that the sink ran orange-coloured water a couple of times when running it, which was a bit off-putting.

Lastly, when I was checking out, the lift's ceiling dripped water on my head and suitcase - the Receptionist said there was a burst pipe. So, that was a first - getting rained on in a lift!

Overall, it was fine, and I slept well in the quiet hotel. But I don't think I'd look to this one again...

Great hotel in great location

Great location: near bus and tram stops, subway is also close by. Dining options are plenty. Room is spacious by Hong Kong standards and fitted with everything for a comfortable stay. The one thing I did not like was how the room is darkened by the electric curtain - window looks out to the next building. Not a big deal for me but could be an issue if staying longer than 2 nights.
Reception at 3/f offers coffee and tea which you can take in the patio which is very nice. You can leave your luggage after check out.

Extremely MASSIVE rooms that provide a glamorous experience in Hong Kong. Very clean too. Also in an excellent area. Loved my stay very much. Only shortcomings were that a lot of the furnishings in the room were a little dated and should be updated (eg scratched furniture, etc). And I wish there was a restaurant on site, but it’s no big deal because there is so much food nearby.

The room is small but well designed, the walk-in shower is very nice. It was quiet. I found the bed comfortable, but I prefer a firm mattress.
The staff went above and beyond, going out the hotel to make sure I went to correct restaurant, or went in the correct direction.

This is a comfortable place to stay in central Wanchai, and effort has been made with the decor of the reception and small lounge - very smart. But the rooms are tired and worn out, looking very aged. For twin bed rooms, there is no accessible bedside light. The entire wifi and Internet system failed in the first night so I was not able to upload work, and their contract with the supplier did not include overnight repairs. I still rate them 4/5 for the overall setup though.

I stayed here prior to covid lockdown and the hotel was good overall. Fast forward 4 years and the hotel is fallen on tough times it would seem, and with that the good that once had. I.e.

1. After 8pm, the reception on the third floor is closed. So to find that out, you ride the lift up and there is a sign that says reception is closed, please go back down to ground floor and contact concierge, who you walked past before you went upstairs?! Why is there no signs at the concierge desk so you do not waste time going up in the lift in the first place.

2. There is absolutely nothing in the room to speak of amenities wise. So you have to, yes you guessed it, ride the lift back to ground floor where there is a vending machine to buy water, slippers, basic amenities that should be provisioned as part of the price, not cheap for a room per night.

3. The bathroom had a sewage stench around the toilet area, extremely unpleasant.

4. Left my luggage for a few hours after check out, upon collection, the bell staff ‘withheld’ my luggage and interrogated me on whether I had taken a teaspoon from the room??! If there is a sure fire way to really put customers from coming back, and to receive a negative review, such as this one, that is text book marketing.

A terrible experience overall from start to finish. I stayed in nearby hotels (Wharney, Iclub, kew green) 100 times better in everyway, and cheaper.

Well located!

The location was excellent and the service areas very well decorated and laid out.
Unfortunately, my room was a two bed room adapted from a double bed room, and so there was no accessible bedside lights to the bed or power outlet. This proved to be a considerable inconvenience.

We had awesome views from the top floor. Room was great and comfortable. You're in the city and it's a couple minute walk from a lot of great food and the mtr station. As first time Americans visiting Hong Kong we loved this location. We grabbed a few water bottles every day from the circle k or 7-11. Definitely recommend

Extremely spacious room and value for money. Very convenient to walk to from Wanchai MTR. Offered early check in which was great as we arrived early with a toddler.
Paul from the security concierge on G floor was very helpful and friendly when we needed a taxi to the airport after check out. Will definitely come back if I'm visiting HKG again.

Spacious, former serviced apartment layout. Fairly rare in Hong Kong.

Great location. Close to MTR; easy in/out for taxi/ Uber. Quiet, but nearby lots of nightlife & restaurants. Times Square nearby.

Clean, private rooms (3 per floor). Great water pressure in showers & attentive housekeeping staff.

Overall, fantastic value in a city that often doesn't deliver hotel room value.

Will stay here again.

This hotel has gone downhill significantly over the last few years. I've stayed here several times pre-covid and it was in much better condition. The rooms were very worn, and dirty. The counters had clearly not been wiped down and the shower was pretty gross. There was a foul odor in the air throughout the building.

Don’t expect any hospitality service

Stayed there for a week in a family room. The single folded out bed is so uncomfortable, old and dusty. Bathroom is small with no storage space with bad ventilation and not the cleanest. The room is old and dated, with no usb charger. Some of the staff are so rude. The house keeping staff open the room door without knocking it in the morning and when we ask them to come back later at 2pm they said they will be gone when they finish cleaning the other rooms. The check in staff told us house keeping is till 4pm. Location is convenient but it’s probably the worse hospitality service I had experience

The biggest drawback is that they don’t clean the rooms properly. Everywhere you look, there are water stains and dust.
The rooms are actually quite spacious for Hong Kong, and the view is amazing.
What the hotel really needs, is a renovation. It’s a bit old, and the fact that it’s dimly lit and has many dark surfaces (floors, carpeting in hallways, furniture) just make it less appealing, than it could easily be.
The price seemed very fair though for quart we got. Had it been properly clean, I would have easily given it 4-stars for this price.

Lazy reception, dirty smoky rooms

During checkin reception staff said hotel has a no smoking policy, but the first room I got was filled with pungent smoke which the hotel tried to cover with fragrance.

When asked to change rooms, the staff just merely handed me the key of a guest who just asked to change his room before me and the room was just one floor below my smoky room. I asked for a diff room but the staff only said hotel was really full, tho that was a Friday.

Second room smelled like fried noodles. There was a strange bottle of non-hotel shampoo in the shower. Toilet had a horrible smell at certain times, due to poor plumbing. Room was very dusty and dirty, wooden furnishings in room are old and worn.

Stayed for two nights and found out No one picks up the guest services phone most of the time; so you need to just keep calling them over and over again.

House keeping apparently realised room was dirty and cleaned the dusty shelves after the first day, but bathroom amenities were forgotten and not changed. Though they took away the shampoo cap but not bottle which was weird.

Location is convenient and that is all.

They upgraded us to a Kng's suite, which to be honest seemed like the regular Queen's but with disabled friendly access.
The room had no crockery nor cutlery, which makes the no dine-in at restaurants after 6 pm due to COVID exceptionally difficult.
The sound system and the TV is out of sync and sounds like major echo (I cannot believe the hotel's been open for so long and simple issue as such is still unaddressed).

Spacious Hotel Room in Hong Kong

We had a wedding at Wooloomooloo Steak house in Wan Chai. In order to make everything easier, my wife decided to stay overnight at Wanchai 88 Hotel with my mum-in-law and other bridesmaids. The room is huge and clean. It is well located in the heart of Hong Kong. I highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a spacious room in Hong Kong.
