I had a good night sleep. The hotel is quite outdated (except for the bathroom) and the spa area was unfortunately closed for renovation.. The gym is very bad, just a room with poor equipment, but a room to work out in is still nice. It’s not close to anything of remark but the casino and the ocean.

We stayed at Exe Praia Golfe as a family of four. The location is excellent—right by the beach and very close to Espinho rail station, which is well connected. The sea view, balcony, and pool access were nice. The main bed was comfortable, and the room was spacious for two adults and two kids. Reception staff were friendly and professional, and the TV and A/C worked well.

However, the hotel is quite dated and needs attention. Peeling paint, worn furniture held together with glue, and lampshades with kids’ drawings left on them gave a neglected feel. The balcony was untidy, with no broom provided. Kids’ beds were awkwardly placed with dirty wheels sticking out, making movement difficult. The bathroom was tired, with chipped tiles and a wobbly shelf. The main door stuck and was hard to open.

Cleanliness was lacking—the floor felt sticky and not recently mopped. Communal areas looked straight out of the 1980s. The entrance smelled of smoke, and the front desk was poorly lit and often unattended.

At breakfast, a staff member spilled something on our table and didn’t clean it or apologise—leaving a mess on the chair and table. Service overall felt undertrained. WhatsApp responses were slow or absent, which was frustrating.

The surrounding area looked rundown with neglected buildings, graffiti, and a derelict public pool. We stayed in better accommodation in Lisbon for less. Sadly, we wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

The whole experience at the hotel was absolutely splendid and the highlight of the whole experience was his nice and curious the staff was, there was this French concierge that was an absolute godsend and helped us at every moment that we needed it. She was so nice and considerate when it came to the sleeping arrangements between my family and she even added an extra bed just so we could be more comfortable during our stay, overall the entire experience was a 100/10 time and we would absolutely come again. The service at this hotel was unmatched.

Overall a nice stay and the hotel has two main strengths: fantastic beach location and a pleasant small pool, gym and spa. However, the Wi-Fi is confined to the lobby area and the hotel also didn’t have an iron to provide. These are significant for business travelers.

Great hotel with a very friendly, English speaking, staff (shout out to Rudolpho). Covered parking and great views of the ocean. Only 200m to a regional train station that allowed us to leave the car behind and take the train the 11km to Porto. (2 Euro each way). We highly recommend this hotel.

We were looking for an inexpensive stay by the water for one night. This worked well for that purpose. We saw a lot of trash around the property on the streets. The room was ok, staff excellent….in the middle of the night someone was drunk and got in a fight and because we had our windows open we were woke up and entertained by the yelling. We had a room facing the ocean with a balcony and that was excellent!

Amazing place, don’t believe any bad reviews!

From start to finish my boys & I loved it! Location was perfect - a short walk from the train station & a minute from the seafront and beach. The family suite was massive! So clean as was the whole of the hotel. The spa and gym were amazing. Staff so friendly. The only negative is that the WiFi is awful but tbh maybe when you’re on holiday you should put your phone down right ?!!

Nice hotel in Espinho, great location, right next to the beach and lots of cafés and restaurant around. Hotel is good overall, excellent breakfast available. It's clean if a little dated in the decor. Key cards for the room frequently would not open the room door and had to be renewed at the front desk, a minor annoyance. Would stay here again for it's location.

Ovwrall the hotel is good. The most negative side is the car park. The hotel claim to have a free parking but it is very small, so there is never spaces to park in the hotel or in front of the hotel. They have about 6/8 car park spaces that you can book in advance, paying 8 euros a day, they were fully booked 5days in advance. There is also a lot of cars everywhere, so it is very difficult to park the car anywhere. Casino car parks (next to hotel) full most of the time too. Paying 1.70 €/h. Rooms were ok and clean. Room is a little too small when added extra bed in the room. The spa was good. It had a inndoor swimming pool. This was great for our 4yold daughter, as the water of the ocean was very cold and sometimes there were too big weaves for her to swim. So she really enjoyed. Then they had one sauna and one steamed room. These facilities were quite new and clean. They also had a massage/treatment service. Solarium was good, 2nd floor in front of Espinho beach. Hotel location was very good,beach front and plenty restaurants around. It is located very close (2 min walk) to town center and shops. Staff were very nice.

The hotel is quite dated,along with the town of Espinho. The room was fairly worn in places. The balcony was useless as they don't provide chairs or tables. The breakfast was average. The towel system for using the pool and loungers is a bit punitive and unusual. The hotel is ok but definitely not a four star hotel. It was pricey for Portugal.

Good hotel with great staff

Staff were excellent, especially the bar and restaurant. Great service and really good food and value in the restaurant (€20 for 3 courses including wine and coffee), it is a pity that the restaurant is only open in the main season. Breakfast provided a great choice. Comfortable rooms with good air con and free wifi. Superb location on the beach. Can't wait to return.

We were happy with our 5 night stay!

We stayed here for the Nations League Finals, very close to train station for quick connection to Porto (5 euros return). Hotel in excellent position for large local beach and plenty of restaurants and bars, Hotel has Gym, indoor pool and terrace for sunbathing, all very clean and well presented, staff were friendly and helpful, room was comfortable with sewing view, breakfast was satisfactory with limited range of cooked food, restaurant was not open in the evenings as June is considered out of season, we were happy with our stay and would return again as a base to visiting Porto.

Great Value and Helpful Staff

We booked one night and liked the property so much we extended our stay one day. Parking is limited and can be a challenge. The hotel has a small, secure parking garage with VERY tight spots and a tight ramp to the lower level and it is often full. Other nearby parking was full during our stay due to nearby businesses and the large casino next door, but the ocean-front views and beach more than made up for the hassle. The property is a bit retro in style, reminding me of Mad Men or the Rat Pack. We thought the main spiral staircase and its lighting was pretty cool. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and included fresh fruit, pastries, eggs, hashbrowns, cheese, meats, cereals, and a wide assortment of beverages. Plus, it was served in a dining room with stunning ocean views.

The restaurant is only open in July and August, but there is food service available in the bar, or nearby. The indoor pool and spa areas are clean and well maintained, although we wished the pool was open until 9 pm instead of 8 pm, as, like many tourists, we spent the day in Porto and didn't have enough time to enjoy the pool after the drive back (about 30 min.with traffic) and dinner. Note that bathing caps and are a requirement, and can be purchased at the front desk for a nominal fee if you do not have one.
The location was a convenient drive to Porto. Overall, Priagolfe was a great value and a pleasant stay.

Good hotel in a great location.

Welcoming hotel, on the beach, with easy, free parking and good, free, WiFi. All the staff are helpful and friendly, especially in the bar and restaurant. Good buffet breakfast. Only downside is that the restaurant is not open in the evening, except for July/August main season, but there are plenty of great value restaurants within easy walking distance and if you don't want to go out, bar snacks are available. We can't wait to return.

Warm and friendly hotel close to the beach.

My husband and I had a lovely stay in the Praiagolfe Hotel, with family and friends. An amazing aspect of our stay was falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the sea. We couldn't have been much closer to the beach. There was also a lovely indoor swimming pool, of which we took advantage, each occasion being the only people in the water (our Feb. booking, perhaps, explaining this!).
Our room was a good size and beautifully clean. Staff could not have been more friendly or helpful.
The hotel decor is retro (Sean Connery, with his shaken martini, would not have felt misplaced), but very well maintained.
Loved it and would be happy to return!)

Lovely hotel, that is benefiting from a gradual refurbishment. Fantastic, friendly staff. Great, free, wifi throughout the hotel and a great indoor pool and spa. Good breakfast, but restaurant is only open in the main season, however, there are plenty of great value restaurants within a few minutes walk. The hotel is right on the beach and the views are amazing.

Staff were excellent, but the hotel is starting to show its age a little, especially on the exterior. Nearby bars and restaurants also very friendly. The only down side was the bed was aging and could have used a mattress topper to stop the springs sticking through, but not too badly.

The star ratings for the hotel do not correspond to hotel ratings in other countries. The rooms need an overall refurnishing. We found the room to be a bit musty with a small bed and thin matress. The biggest plus point was it's location.

Good Location for Beach & Transport

From Expedia's information All rooms had balconies so we booked a Standard room for the week. On arrival we were allocated a Standard Room but there was No balcony. We asked for an up-grade and were offered a City view room with a balcony which we accepted.
Unfortunately daytime building works on the hotel converting rooms to full suites started the day after we arrived and were still progressing when we left. There was no pertinent warning before we checked-in (or from Expedia) only a half-hearted apology we found printed in the lift.

Hotel very clean. Food was very nice but I would have liked more choices for main course in the evening. Disappointed that the sea was too strong to swim in, but a huge swimming pool next door with sun beds and diving board. A little quiet in the evening. The market was very interesting. I have never seen such a large market. Train station five minutes away. Fares very reasonable. Went to Porto twice beautiful city. Such a lot to see..

The sink would not hold any water and the taps leaked but in general was comfortable. Great location for the beach which is one of the hotels best amenities.

Hotel is, as everyone says a bit dated; however it has an ideal location on the beach, good breakfast, clean rooms and easy to visit Porto. 20 minutes by train so good base to explore Porto without stating there. The gym/pool/sauna area is excellent. Esphino itself has plenty of good restaurants and fantastic beach - the sea is freezing though!.

Great little stay right on the beach. Great value for money if the room was a little dated and uncomfortable. Right near the station for travel into Porto and on the travel card zone. Some great places to eat and drink close by and surf camps right on the beach, which I made use of them all. Not sure I would pay much more for the room I had. The staff were very helpfull and polite!

This hotel is a beautiful old hotel.
I agree with previous comments that the hotel could use some work but that being said this is Portugal.
The hotel never left me wanting.
The breakfast was the best that I have ever had as part of the cost of a room.
The pool was amazing. (bring your own bathing cap (state law))
We walked the beach and the boardwalk every day.
We took the train to Porto for a day excursion on day. (train station 5 min walk away)
By far the best part of this hotel is the town of Espinho. We walked for hours exploring the old town and scouting out the next evenings meal.
Be prepared to be fed a huge meal and looked after for up to 2 hours when you choose a restaurant.

Great place to stay, right on the beach. The staff are all very helpful and friendly, throughout the hotel.
Hotel was built in the 70's and retains its understated style and ambience.
The spa is currently being refurbished, but disappointingly, the jacuzzi has been removed. The new sauna and steam room are now in the pool area and the steam room lacks both steam and heat.
The main restaurant is open only during July & August, but the buffet breakfast is excellent and the Bar Snacks are good. There are many excellent value restaurants within easy walking distance from the hotel. The big disappointment on this visit was that the local Superbock beer has been replaced by a poor Spanish substitute!

This hotel is a little gem. Built in the 1970's, it still retains the style and character and continues to upgrade its rooms. Great pool and spa. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The only downside is that the restaurant is only open in high season, but bar snacks are available and the buffet breakfast is excellent.There are also some really good restaurants within a short walk.

Chose the wrong week weatherwise, but still had a great time, the promenade and the boardwalks stretch for endless miles, the train lines run parallel to the beach, we walked 5 miles along the spectacular beach then caught the train back, there is a station about every mile, great restaurants and friendly beach bars, there are no rip off merchants in this part of Portugal, lovely people, fabulous beach, and the waves in the stormy weather, enchanting.

Amazing hotel, rught in the middle of things. Almost every room has an ocean view, and located right on the beach. Hotel itself is also very nice inside. Only thing i would complain is that the internet sucks! But that includes all hotels that have a login type of internet, connection is horrible!

Had a really nice 5 day break, enjoyed the beachfront location and close proximity to the beach. Our upgraded room was small and basic but perfectly clean, with a small balcony overlooking the beach. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfasts were good and plentiful. The hotel is tired looking and really needs to be decorated.

We booked this hotel for a short three night stop over on a drive from Lisbon to Porto. We chose it because of the beach. We thought the breakfast was fantastic! Fresh fruit, bacon, egg, and much more! The restaurant had a view of the ocean so it was a pleasant surprise. The hotel itself was certainly outdated. It was clean, but it really could use some new carpeting. The two complaints I have are: when you arrive there were creepy men helping you park and constantly badgering you to help you with your bags for some money. Next, we were excited for the pool and when we went to go swimming the women told us we needed to wear swim caps. We have a 2 year old daughter, and there was no way she could wear a swim cap. So be warned the pool is more of a spa pool.

We have used this hotel many times and always find the staff extremely helpful. Overlooks the beach and convenient for the town center and train station. Rooms are clean and the refurbished rooms are very nice. Our only disappointment was that the hotel restaurant is now closed (apparently permanently), but the excellent breakfast service is still available as are bar snacks. The spa facility and pool are very good.

Nice Beach Hote with a fabulous view

Hotel was very comfortable and a nice break from the city. Conveniently located . train station only short walk and takes you into Porto in 35 mins. Casino next door. Beach, surfing right out the front door.Watch the fishermen bring in their catch each morning 15 min walk down the promenade.Really cool!

This was a last minute impulse booking and as our priority was to have a pool we were pleased with our trip. The hotel is however nearly 16 k from Porto so it is probably best enjoyed in summer when the opportunity to get out of the heat of the city and down on the beach is more appealling.

Great place for a quiet stay at the beach

I recently stayed at the Praiagolfe Hotel in Espihno. I found the hotel was very easy to get to from the train station and excellently located on the beach. My room had a south facing balcony which provided a lovely view of the beach and boarwalk beneath. The proximity to the beach, jetty and preservation dunes was ideal for a quiet beach stay. The indoor pool, hot tub were also a great plus. Although at times it was too hot and humid to be in there for long. the outside sun area was nice too, but often the lounge chair mats were missing. The neighbourhood around the hotel was nice and filled with local charm. Good access to local shops though it is harder to find a market or shop for small food items. The breakfast buffet was ok but lacked variety and didn't have many options. Overall I would recommend this hotel, however if I were to return to Portugal I would prefer to stay further south were the beaches offer better swimming and higher temperatures.

Good for the price and location

A bit dated looking but clean and fine. staff seemed nice but after an intial misunderstanding, didnt come back to clean the room after we told them to.
Breakfast good and included in our price.
No sea view but there could be.

Espinho-Beach haven

Very convenient location for the beach and pleasant stay at The Praiagolfe with a roof terrrace overlooking the sea. The beach itself was rather windy and high tides were a little dangerous, however it was beautiful to overlook and make pleasant walks along. The hotel had a heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna etc which were welcome on our one cloudy day. Nightlife is pretty poor, but a few nice restaurants- Tomate-for Italian meals was great. The hotel room was cleaned daily and the air con was great; TV even had a few English speaking channels. I would recommend the resort for couples who want a quiet relaxing holiday, and the hotel likewise. Nightlife is in Porto itself I'm afraid which is fairly convenient via train-5mins from the hotel. The staff were friendly and their English was good, also free wifi was great too.

Lovely location

The hotel is beautifully situated and Espinho is lovely if you want to experience a traditional Portugese holiday resort. The hotel is quite dated but the staff and spa facilities are lovely with complimentary towels for the pool. Breakfast is adequate and available until 10am. The safe is free and the staff very helpful. We would go back and really enjoyed our holiday.

Winter by the Sea

Location is fantastic. Couldn't ask for better. However, the Hotel lacks certain elements that we normally expect from a 4 Star facility. The Bathrooms are very old, the whole building is quite old, and amenities such as Bath Robes and high quality towels are not available. Also, there aren't any \"Safe Boxes\" in each Room. Parking facilities are inadequate to say the least. Would I go back, probably yes only for the location; on the Beach right next to the Casino. The rates are very reasonable as well. I think the Hotel should be rated as a 3 Star facility. I don't think they would lose business as a result and the reviews coming in from people like me wouldn't be as harsh. It can be frustrating when what you get doesn't quite measure up to one's expectations.

Espinho - great reprieve from Porto

Espinho, get location on the ocean. Staff at Praira Golf very helpful. Hotel close to restaurants, right on the beach = lots to do. Try to time your stay at the Praira for a Monday and attend the amazing street market.

Horrible experience

This hotel has a four star rating but obviously has not been visited recently by a ratings committee. The hotel is in very poor condition. The carpet was filthy, the wallpaper was torn, the carpet was baggy with big areas of loose fabric, the towels and linens were thin and disgusting. We didn't arrive until late a night and had no option otherwise we would have left immmediately. Stay away!

Kamer wordt elke dag schoongemaakt. Vriendelijke personeels. Jammer dat we meermalen problemen hebben met kaartje van de kamer daardoor kunnen we onze kamer niet in. Na meermalen naar de receptie is het opgelost, wel vervelend dat het gebeurt. En we ervaren lekkage in de badkamer die veroorzaakt door boven verdieping vlak onze kamer. Hele badkamer blank door de lekkage midden in de nacht. Geen compensatie hier gehad. En spa voorziening is uitermate slecht, niet waard voor het geld van verblijft die we betalend.
