Good experience. Breakfast was excellent, every day 3 types of fruits. Spacious room, big bed, perfect shower. Disappointed of swimming pool, unclean, also about sauna. Overall was nice. Thanks

The hotel is very remote from the center. The SPA facilities were shut, including gym and pool. I booked 6 nights stay expecting to enjoy SPA massages, pool and other facilities advertised by the hotel. However, at my check-in point I have discovered that everything is closed.
One evening I did not feel well and needed some medicines to help with the pain. The hotel reception did not have first aid kit and the nearest pharmacy was within 25 min walk/10 min driving distance. I had shortened my stay to 3 nights as it was simply nothing to do and not pleasant environment to stay.

We went specifically to take advantage of the spa which, alas, was non-functional. Also sparsely had warm water in the shower. Not great value. Albeit a great view and really friendly and very accomodating.

It was a neutral reception not as friendly as i am accustomed too. The room was clean but a bit more rustic than i expected. The toilet got stuck a couple of times water ran for up to 10 minutes before stopping. The wifi did not work so i had to used my hotspot. Breakfast was a great selection. Checkout i expect always to be asked how my stay was, this did not happen.

Hotel had a few quirks (key didn't work on the second day, housekeeping entered my room without knocking). Breakfast was good, didn't try their fancy restaurant though. Free parking across the hotel.
Pro: Staff in general was really nice and spoke good English. Location was right on the beach, my room included a veranda with view of the sea.
Con: Pool was closed for renovation. Noisy bathroom piping.

Hotel has good spacious room, but there is not much going on in the area. Stay disappointed by noisy guests, crowding around entrance drinking and leaving rubbish and beer bottles strewn over the place. Hotel is dated and tired looking, but sea views are great.

The hotel is very run down, paint and tiling is peeling off all around the pool. It is not a 4* hotel. Maybe 2.5* at best. The floor of the room was dirty, covered in the previous tenants debris. The bed cover was stained, as were the towels. I explained my problem to the hotel reception staff who gave me a shrugged shoulder response. So I stated it is difficult to feel clean drying off on a towel with stains or fell for rested in a bed with multiple stains on the cover. He then said he would get it remedied. When we returned after the day out, the stained bedcover was still there, the floor had been vacuumed, but the changed towels were still stained. It was disappointing. We chose the breakfast and it proved a good time to diet. The breakfast was sub standard. The breads, croissants and even Portuguese tarts were all dry and tasted like yesterday’s. I do not recommend taking the breakfast options. There are some great local restaurants to get a decent feed at.
The location is great for a beach break. The bus to Porto takes about 40 mins and is only €2 each way.
Loved being close to the beach, just wish we chose another hotel.

Older building with early 1940-50? Charms in woodwork and layout. Was updated in last 10_20 years but still eclectic feeling. Quiet location by beach. Need a car. We used public transit from across the street forc30 ride into Porto daily. No regrets

Hotel Weed rather than a Tulip

The hotel is placed rather far from central Porto it does have a nice beach but due to the Atlantic sea it can be rough and misty in the mornings. The Hotel has had an refurbishment and rooms are pleasant to be in. The hotel staff do their best to serve the customers but are sometimes lacking in knowledge. The breakfast is buffet style with basics to offer however the hot water machine splashed boiling water which can be dangerous. The spa is only manned by one member of staff and at busy times you have to deal with things yourself. No life guard near the pool. There is not much to do near the area it self. So if going to Porto then stay in Porto.
TIPS - to get around the city buy the yellow bus tickets which includes the boat trip and wine tasting you can also use the bus for 48 hours. Taxis were quite cheap overall. Porto is a nice city plenty to see and do. Hotel Champagne bar was never opened during our time of stay.

Welcomed with friendly staff, explained parking free on lot, breakfast, wifi and 6.5km to downtown Porto where early morning strolls and late night lightS are so awesome and Un describable!
We will be back, you can also rent bikes at the Hotel to ride the over 30km of beach paved routes.

The reason I chose this hotel in Gaia, by the beach, instead of staying right downtown Porto, was because it was advertised as a relaxing place with a spa with many treatments. It also said a shuttle bus to the airport was included in the price. Well when I arrived, there was banging of hammers. All day long. This lady was at reception screaming and complaining about this. When I wanted to book my massage, they simply told me that the masseuse wasn't in for the day. No discount offered, no amends made. When I ordered room service, they didn't even bring me cutlery to eat with. And finally when I booked my shuttle bus 24-hours in advance to go to the airport on my last day, they said it was booked and all was good. Well, it turns out all they did was call me a cab to the airport which I had to pay for myself. So much for a free airport shuttle bus being included. Again, no apology, no explanation. All in all, it wasn't too pleasant of an experience. I wouldn't recommend it to my friends or family.

When getting a taxi from airport the taxi drivers seem to know it as Casa Branco which I think was the name of the hotel the beach area is Lavadores so mention both!!

The view was amazing and the room was very nice and spacious. Loved having a balcony with big windows overlooking the beach. Breakfast was great and at a good time for both early and late risers. The only negative was that the hairdryer broke and nobody came to fix it like they said they would.

Far away from Porto but truly great service! Rooms impeccable but spa disgusting! Parking easy and attached restaurant expensive!!!!!! Amazing free breakfast. Take the 12 bus to the end and you're at the cool part of Porto (2€, direct; take it back and the hotel is the last stop.

This is a very well located hotel. Right on the beach and close to a 20 km walking/cycling path that can take all the way to Porto.
The hotel, as indicated in several other comments, is definitely in need for some renovation. I agree with that. But you know what? Once renovated this hotel would command a much higher room rate, possibly double what they currently charge.
In my opinion this is a good value for money hotel. Breakfast is good and hotel personnel are really quite nice and willing to help. We had a very pleasant stay with our 1 year old son. Woule definitely come back. It's a good base to visit Porto while staying away from the hustle and bustle of a large city.

Quiet hotel for r&r close to the beach

The staff at the hotel are all brilliantly helpful and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet holiday. The beach is right on the doorstep and couldn't be better. Special mention to Tanya on reception for taking the time to tell us what to do with our time in Porto and for being such a great host!

Great location, close to rocky & sandy beaches & the Atlantic surf. Loved the wooden boardwalk beside the beach & the beach cafes. Nice hotel, comfortable room with large balcony & sliding doors. Hotel staff were lovely, very friendly & helpful, interested in making our stay a success. Great buffet breakfast, everything from fresh fruit to pastries to bacon & egg. Regular bus service into Porto, took 15 mins to city centre; lots to see there including museums, the port wine lodges, historic quayside,boat trips on the river & fabulous cafes! Weather cool & hazy in the morning, warming up by midday but never too hot. We enjoyed bodyboarding (the surf is quite strong!), cycling for miles along the cycle track and walking along the wooden walkway beside the beach. Wish we could have stayed another week!

Nice hotel very close to the beach with a beautiful view on the Atlantic ocean. Close to the city centre by car. Unfortunately during my stay the jacuzzi was not working and I found out that the sauna and turkish bath are separated by gender. However it is a very nice place and good for holidays. I would definitely recommend it.

Charming hotel on the ocean shore

If you are after a quiet and peaceful place to stay, I highly recommend this hotel. It looks like an old hotel but still it had everything I needed, the staff were lovely and breakfast was filling. The \"health club\" is not the most modern I've seen but it still works fine, the hotel's restaurant serves really tasty meals. Bus 902 stops very close to the hotel, it takes you to Boavista in around 30 minutes. I also walked from the hotel to Ponte Luís I in an hour and a half along the river. The hotel is in a quiet area, miles of beaches near for nice walks an peaceful sunbathing.

Great place away from all the 'hussle and bussle' of Porto and Vila Nova town centre. Good views from the balcony which is enclosed, the windows could be opened wide and were good protection during windy weather. Nice place to sit to watch the sunsets. Used the restaurant a couple times but found a 15 min walk to the Mar a Vista restaurant a better menu option. All the staff we met from cleaner to reception were polite & helpful and deserve 5 stars, many thanks to you all for helping make our stay so pleasant.

Lovely beachside hotel

The hotel is right by the beach at Lavadores, which has a great promenade with bars, restaurants etc. There is a bus stop right by the hotel to take you to central Porto, the port houses at Cais de Gaia etc. As the hotel is near to the Douro estuary you can also walk into the city along the banks of the river, which is beautiful.
The room was spacious and very well appointed. It had a balcony with sliding glass windows which offered a splendid view of the beach.
I'm not sure why the hotel advertises itself as a golf hotel as the nearest golf course seems to be a 9-hole course at Miramar which is 8km away. However, as golf was not on my agenda the hotel had everything I needed and it was a very pleasant stay!

Not quite 4 star

First and foremost the staff are great, although there seems to be so few of them!! Nothing was ever too much trouble.

Accessibility into Porto is so easy with a 15 minute bus journey and you can walk for miles along the beach.

The owners of the hotel could do with employing a few more and also investing some money into the hotel itself. Don't get me wrong it is clean and tidy but it could do with a bit of paint to spruce it up.

Wonderful hotel situated right on the beach. Had a room on the 3rd floor with great views over the sea. Although the hotel was busy it was very quiet. You do need to take bathroom shower gel etc, there is only 1 sachet provided, and no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Continental breakfast is complimentary.We used the restaurant both nights for dinner and could not fault the food or service. The fish, sea bass was really good. We had a table looking out to sea and watched the sunset while we ate. There are lots of beachfront cafes. Wonderful promenade goes for miles and miles.There are 2 buses (902, 11) that go about every half hour to Porto from about 200 metres from the hotel, about 2 euros. It is very easy to get from the airport to Porto on the metro 2.50 euros. Ideal destination for a combined city/beach break and at a good price.

401 IS THE DODGY ROOM

We got room 401, unfortunately the home of the deep growling Balrog that inhabits the water system.
After a sllepless night, got moved to room 403, bit less noisy.
No kettle or tea making facility in the room, which was a bit of a pain for a couple of tea junkies like us.
No other restuarents in ther area, so need to go to Porto for a chnage of scene (15 minutes by taxi).
Porto is OK for a lone weekend, but not enouhg to occupy you for a whole week.

The hotel is traditional style in a residential area on the seaside with extensive sandy beaches. Travellers to be aware - buses to and from the town are every 30 minutes or every hour. The bus journey is about 20 minutes. The taxi home is quick and was the price of 3 glasses of port at 10pm. You cannot use the 3 day bus and metro pass on the local bus to the old town. There is a fitness trail that goes past the hotel along the coast and nature reserve approx 2 miles to the edge of the town. It is safe to cycle or walk. From the airport you take a metro and then a bus but it can take between one and two hours depending on connections. Hassle free but allow time. We preferred this to staying in the noisy town, and the hotel was much better value for money. There are lots of bars within walking distance on the sea front but one small shop for BASIC provisions only.

everything was fantastic-the beautiful view from the window, room, guest service, breakfast staff, breakfast variety. EVERYONE there were EXTREMELY friendly!!!! Im VERY sensitive to odor and thats why id rather pay a bit more to go to an highly rated hotels and this hotels smelled like nothing!! i loved it!!!!!
The ONLY thing i HAD to say it was only a 3-star was because when my hubby and i checked in and received the keys which gives access to the elevator and the room. the elevator wouldnt accept the key card we had just gotten from the front desk... we were exhausted from driving for over 18 hours from NY and it was past 1am... my hubby went to the front desk telling them it wasnt working and this was after trying all four of the elevators that were there... got the replacement keys and went up being told by the front desk that u have the kind of play with the card reader...
went upstairs, the requested bed size was wrong so we had to go down to get another room.
after the guy from the front desk had handed us the key to another room, he left. we thought we were able to get in and sleep but it didnt end there... =*(
the keycard for THAT room didnt work...
so my hubby for like the 4th time had to go down to the front desk and tell them....
by the time all this fuss was over, it was well over 2am...
so, until that card reader is fixed, i wouldnt want to recommend people to go there...
if that WERE to get fixed, then DEFINITELY!!!!!!

We had a pleasant stay. The staff was friendly, prompt, professional. You can tell that the rooms are used a lot. The curtains were stained and ripped, the bed skit was stained. We notified the desk, and the bed skirt was replaced immediately. We were worried about the matresses, based on a previous review, but the mattress was new and absolutely heavenly. Room service was good and quick. Pool area and workout room were well maintained. Pay the extra money for valet parking. Otherwise, you have to park, ride an elevator down in the garage, walk around the garage and into the hotel, then ride an elevator to the room. There are no other ways to access your vehicle. Overall, a good stay for the reduced rate. I wouldn't pay full price, simply for the maintenance issues, the slightly musty smell in the halls, and the 4 block walk to the beach.

Hotel location is perfect, stones throw from the beach, 15 minute bus ride into Porto, half a dozen local restaurants within walking distance, 5 star restaurant with the hotel.
Beach is lovely does not get crowded, locals very friendly.
If you like walking its about one & half hrs walk into Porto, but its all downhill beside the river, its beautiful.
Once into Porto, you must go into the Port houses for there tours, only about 4 or 5 euros

We'll be back!

We wanted to stay on the beach yet be close to Porto and this was the perfect location. Just steps from the beach, and a lovely hour stroll on the boardwalk (or 5-10 min. taxi) to the port lodges of Porto, Casa Branca was a fine choice. The staff was welcoming and curteous-- they even smiled-- an unusual gesture by European hotel staff. Of note, before entering the pool, all patrons must wear swim caps (avail. for purchase), so if you have one, bring it. The friendliness and approachability of the people was not isolated to the hotel. We encountered one after another of kind, helpful locals, and fully enjoyed the hospitality of the city. Relaxing, beautiful and approachable, Porto is not to be missed. Bear in mind that the best food in Porto can be found off the beaten track. Look to the quieter side streets.

Nette Unterkunft mit Parkplatz und Frühstück

Haben das Hotel gewählt wegen Parkplatz, Lage ist ruhig, kann man mit Fahrrädern über die Fahrradwege in die Altstadt fahren, Strand ist keine 5 min mit dem Rad entfernt. Frühstück mit sehr viel Liebe gemacht und Service sehr aufmerksam. Das Essen im Restaurant war von Preis Leistung mehr als gut. Das Haus ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen.

Trato muy bueno por parte del personal de recepción, desayuno y de la limpieza. Son todos muy amables y agradables. El desayuno está bien, tienes un poco de todo tanto si te gusta el dulce como lo saldado. Lo peor son las instalaciones que necesitan una reforma/actualización. Los baños parece que han sido actualizados hace poco, pero las zonas comunes, el resto de la habitación, el mobiliario y los colchones tienen sus años........

Men selv om vi pga Covid 19 havde forberedt os på restriktioner mm, så var det samlet set en KÆMPE skuffelse at være på Golden Tulip. Billedet af pool og spa bruges alle steder som reklame for hotellet, men det var lukket - sammen med træningslokalet og diskoteket.
Hotellet er MEGET nedslidt og trænger MEGET til renovering. Både udvendig og en del steder indvendig, bl.a. andet det værelse, vi boede på.
Vi har brugt Expedia mindst 20 gange, og dette hotel er uden sammenligning det mest nedslidte, vi har boet på.

Dies Unterkunft entspricht absolut nicht den eingegebenen Bilder, die hier zu sehen sind. Das Hotel is alt, dreckig und heruntergekommen. Wir hatten Schimmel Reste im Badezimmer und das Wasser der Dusche ist nicht abgelaufen. Die Wände und die alten Teppichböden im kompletten Hotel waren dreckig. Das Spa roch nach stinkenden Abfluss und es gab Wasserschäden an den Decken. Ebenfalls kann das Spa an zwei Tage in der Woche nicht voll besucht werden, da Schwimmunterricht dort stattfindet. Das Personal war mäßig freundlich und konnten nicht gerade mit Englischkenntnisse glänzen. Beim Frühstück gab es fertig Produkte und für ein gekochtes Ei musste extra bezahlt werden. Ebenfalls wurden Getränke erst nach Aufforderung nachgefüllt. Im Ganzen nicht zum empfehlen. Das bisher schrecklichsten Erlebnis nach einer Hotelbuchung bei Expedia. Ich bitte aktuelle Bilder des Hotels hochzuladen, oder das Hotel aus dem Sortiment zu nehmen.

Het enige unike aan de het hotel was de ligging aan de zee. Maar voor de rest was het echt heel slecht. Je verwacht een 4 sterren hotel maar het zijn er met moeite 2 waard. Dat Expedia met dit hotel in zee gaat is niet te begrijpen. Je was verplicht een badmuts voor 5 euro te kopen mocht je willen zwemmen. Wil je een gebakken eitje bij je ontbijtje dan mag je extra betalen. Of een ommeltje mag je 4 euro meer betalen bij het ontbijt. Ondanks dat je al ontbijt erbij hebt zitten.

Lits confortables on y dort bien mais hôtel suranné (draps en dentelleet couverture laine). Il est un peu vieillot (SDB et robinets plus que fatigués) une rénovation s impose. Un petit doute sur l hygiène du spa mais c est subjectif sans doute lié a l environnement de la piscine vieillot. Attention il faut un bonnet de bain pour la piscine et le spa. Petits déjeuners corrects mais sans prétention (c est la pleine saison du melon qui était présent dans nos autres hôtels et là juste des pommes farineuses, des oranges et de la pastèque). Les photos du site sont celles d y a des années quand c était neuf. Par contre le resto (hors établissement) est top du top.

sehr gute Lage und Parkplatzangebot. Auch Busverbindung nach Porto OK.
Frühstück OK aber nicht sehr abwechslungsreich. Restaurant sehr gut - aber nicht gerade preiswert und in extra Gebäude.
Ausstattung insbes. des Wellness-Bereichs in die Jahre gekommen, Liege-\"Wiese\" mit Kunstrasen nicht sehr einladend.
Fahrstuhl fiel einen Tag aus; anschließend wegen Arbeiten auch Fitness und Whirlpool teilweise nicht benutzbar. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfreich. Außerdem durften wir am letzten Tag ohne Kosten oder Verhandlungen bis 14:00 bleiben - das haben wir oft anders erlebt. Als reines Wellness-Hotel aber nicht zu empfehlen bevor nicht investiert wird.

Snydende billeder og dårlig service

Billederne snyder til det fuldeste. For det første virker lyset på hotellet ikke, derudover skal man betale ekstra penge for en badehætte, som man skal have på i spaområdet, hvilket der ikke blev skrevet nogle steder. Vi betalte endda ekstra for at få et værelse med havudsigt, og det var der i hvert fald ikke! Derudover var elevatoren i stykker, så man skulle slæbe sine kufferter op på 3. Sal.. Morgenmaden var dessideret ringe.

Hotel en mal estado de mantenimiento aunque debe haber sido bueno en el pasado! Apenas llegamos nos dimos cuenta que no andaba el aire acondicionado, al reclamar en la recepción nos dicen alegremente que hace más de una semana que No funciona y están tratando de repararlo. Algo que No nos advirtieron en el check in y no nos dieron ninguna solución ni compensación por esto!!! Queda lejos de Porto aunque muy cerca de una zona de playas muy bonitas. El personal no supo manejar la situación ante nuestros reclamos, no hubo una disculpa, la actitud fue lo peor!!! La habitación tiene buenos muebles, pero las puertas del baño hinchadas por la humedad y hongos en los techos. Le falta mucho mantenimiento!!!

Bom mas não excelente para um hotel de 4*

No geral foi bom, tem uma boa variedade no pequeno almoço, inclusive bom sumo (o que é estranho encontrar), mas precisa de mais limpeza em alguns detalhes. O restaurante não é bom, para a gama de preços medio/altos que têm, não recomendo a ninguém.

Le personnel de cet établissement est fantastique! Merci à eux pour leur disponibilité et gentillesse.

Si les chambres étaient spacieuses et assez correcte, la literie n’était pas géniale...l’espace spa est fort décevant, c’est resté figé dans le temps... cet hôtel mériterait certains rafraîchissements.

Reste toutefois cette localisation idéale face à la mer, toute les chambres ont vue sur

Hotel parece estar abandonado, Ar condicionado não funciona, reclamamos várias vezes e não arrumaram (total descaso com o hospede). As torneiras da banheira simplesemente não fechavam, ficaram pingando a noite toda e o chuveiro é muito baixo, impossível tomar banho se você tem mais de 1,70m de altura.

Camera Superior vista mare molto confortevole, ampia, pulita, silenziosa. Letto Queen comodissimo. Piacevole l'ampio balcone. Nessun difetto... :-)
Parcheggio gratuito disponibile. Abbiamo trovato questo hotel davvero molto comodo per raggiungere Porto con l'auto.

Attente pour la chambre qui ne correspondait pas aux critères de location (il a fallu reprécisé les conditions de location : vue sur mer). Le Spa et la piscine n'étaient pas en état de marche. 1 seule serviette de bains pour 2. Il a fallu réclamer la 2ème à 2 reprises.
