We really liked the Best Western Hotel Le Guilhem. Sophie at the front desk is AMAZING! She was so helpful and speaks English really well. She helped us with navigating an issue that we could not figure out ourselves since we don’t understand or speak French. We were so grateful for her kindness!

As for the hotel itself, it is an older hotel and looks a little tired but we liked the old quirkiness of it. We stayed in what they called the “chamber room”. It was in the basement and looked like an old cellar. It had a garden terrace that was only accessible from this one room. The terrace garden was overgrown but it was charming. We thought it was a fun room to stay in. We will need to go back to Montpillier next spring and we will probably book the same room again.

The staff was outstanding! All staff memebers were very friendly and kind. The only two things I didn't like about the hotel was (1) There were no slippers of even a complimentary bottle of still water in the room, and (2) the carpet in the hallway and stairway looked like it hadn't been shampoo-cleaned in years. Other than that, my visit was nice thanks to the friendly staff.

The hotel is very well located, in the heart of the city, and is very convenient to walk around. The staff was also very nice and attentive, especially the lady who checked us in.

Having said that, the hotel has clearly seen better days. It is a bit worn out, the carpets are very old and not in good shape, which is a problem if you are allergic. Overall, the hotel was clean, and the cleaning lady was very very nice, but those carpets need a replacement.

What I liked:
- It's location. It's very walkable.
- The view from the room was very nice.
- It had a parking nearby, and they give you a very good discount in it.
- The staff.

What I disliked:
- The general state of the hotel: the carpets are terrible and the bed a bit torn out (although I should point out it was clean).
- The room was as clean as it could be for the conditions it was on. I say this because I do not wish for the cleaning staff to be blamed for my review, as it was clearly beyond their capacity to fix things.
- Breakfast was terrible. Honestly, they shouldn't even offer it, and it was not worth the €12 it costs. On our second day we decided to skip it altogether and go somewhere else (in all fairness the hotel staff didn't charge us for that day, they were super nice about it)

Bottom line: If you want a convenient place, this is a good hotel. But if you are a bit allergic, stay away until they change the carpets.

We arrived tired from Avignon. Only staying in Montpellier to catch an early next day flight following a cancelled TGV out of Avignon. The moment we arrived our mood lifted. The receptionist ( sorry missed your name) was super kind and helpful. Her kindness lifted out mood
That plus a delightful hotel room in a fabulous location made our stay memorable
We even took up the recommendation to eat in the nearby Balthazar restaurant and enjoyed a super dinner.

The hotel was chosen as it advertised laundry service, bar, restaurant on site.
There are none of these services, a restaurant next door where the mosquitos are ferocious. I had to take antihistamine's due to the number of bites I received while I waited to order. The hotel room was clean, the bed hard, the carpets urgently need replacing. The shower is over bath and sprays water everywhere.
The description on booking sites needs to be updated to reflect what is current. The staff were excellent and I felt sorry for them dealing with this very irate customer. The worst accomodation I have had in 3 months of travel,

It is a characterful hotel, very traditional in its decor. Great location and my room overlooked the jardin restaurant and across to the cathedral- that was lovely. The cathedral bells will ring , if you are bothered by this then maybe it isn’t for you - I thought it was a great feature which added something. The staff are excellent and helpful and it is located very well for the old town. It could do with the carpets replacing in the common areas ( stairs ) as it was probably not the best choice and shows the wear and tear . All in all it was well worth the money

Third visit!

Our third stay at this hotel. We love it for the location within easy reach of the centre of Montpellier. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Can't comment on the food as we always eat out (plenty of choice). Only negative would be the carpet on the stairs and hallways is looking a bit tired and dirty, but the rooms are always comfortable and clean.

We like this hotel

We liked the hotel. It has a great position and the building is very old and interesting. The hotel does need some new carpets in the common areas. The Cathedral which is behind the hotel is so lovely and the bells are a treat, especially at Vespers/Evensong. Also the huge trees are wonderful. We've stayed there a number of times and will stay again.

We loved our stay at Hotel Le Guilhem. Such a gem, quaint rooms, fabulous location, lovely view and delightful staff. Ours was a last minute booking and we were so happy. Taking the tram from the train station was almost door to door. Lucas at the front desk was charming and extremely helpful. Our room had everything we needed, water, lovely soap, fluffy towels, etc. there was a lift for our heavy suitcases too! Everything is walkable from the hotel. We only wish we had stayed longer.

Super location for the weekend

A weekend visit to explore the restaurants and life in Montpellier. Hotel was welcoming and explained all we needed to know. The hotel is in the old town and within about 15 mins walk of anywhere within it. A very good location for the purpose of our visit, it is surrounded by little streets with lovely picturesque squares , all with cafes and restaurants galore .

The staff are lovely and very helpful. The hotel itself is in desperate need of a refurb, and all extremely shabby. The carpets especially on staircase are filthy from traffic and threadbare. Even the towels although clean were practically threadbare. Although well situated, the car park is a public one down the road (a bit of a squeeze) and a good 5 minute walk away. You cannot access the hotel by car. Would not stay here again.

Overall, I liked this hotel a lot. This does not feel like a Best Western, but like a Medieval flat... I liked the charm, with a gorgeous view of the Cathedral. Definitely, a convenient and picturesque location in the old city center.

The rooms are quite spacious. What I did not like was that the refrigerator was broken. It was fixed in two days.

Professional but friendly reception, room was nicely sized and clean with a comfortable bed. The style is a little dated nowadays, but you get what you pay for and the room matched what I saw on the pics beforehand. Slight issue with them asking for payment when I had already pre-paid through Expedia, but I showed them my email receipt and all was fine. Wouldn't hesitate to book again, there's also a fantastic restaurant just across the street - Umami - La cinquième saveur!

The view of the cathedral was amazing.Our staff spoke English and could not do enough for us.They offer a discounted parking rate at the garage a few blocks away.When the automated system failed to give me change and an exit ticket , Yohan came down to help me and sort it to...above and beyond!!

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone-business, personal etc. Super Clean with the utmost of service. Without a doubt, the BEST service I've ever received in a hotel in France-including much more expensive bigger chains. They really care. Room was spotless everyday. Helpful with where and how to get to places. Everything is walkable-very convenient I had so much work and they set up me in the restaurant when it was closed so it would be more comfortable. Room was not small as most french rooms-enough room. I am definitely going back there!

Very cool, quaint hotel in the middle of the city. The building itself is from the 16 century. Rooms are nice and beds fairly comfortable. Staff is excellent. Walkable for any part of the downtown area. There is a great bakery right outside the door and several restaurants on the street itself.

All you need

Our second stay at this hotel, didn't hesitate on booking it again. Staff are helpful and friendly, beds very comfortable and its convenient for the city centre. We don't use it for eating so can't comment (There's a very good bar down the road that does great croissants and coffee for breakfast and is great for people watching).

This was the second time we stayed in this hotel. Perfectly situated to explore the historic centre of Montpellier. Lots of good restaurants and bars within a short walk.
The room was clean and comfortable with a gorgeous view of the cathedral. Staff are polite and helpful.

I have mixed emotions about the staff as the chap that greeted us couldn’t do enough to help. I even tipped him which I only do in exceptional circumstances. The others were ok but in comparison, on a completely different scale.
The hotel was clean and nice enough. Lovely location away from the crowds but still a short walk anywhere.
I would recommend this for a short trip but it lacks the comfort of a long one.

Very comfortable stay in room at top of hotel with great view of Cathedral. The rooms yellow decor seemed a little dated but do we want every room to be white and purple? Staff always friendly. Didn't eat so can't comment. Only minus, and it's not the hotels fault... trying to find it (without GPS) by driving was so difficult, Montpelier traffic signage is terrible!! That said, once you get the car parked the hotel is nicely positioned for exploring all the city on foot or by tram.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 and a half weeks and I could not have been more satisfied. Clean, friendly staff, quiet, in a perfect location. If I ever go to Montpellier again, there's no question I'd stay here again. And I'll highly recommend it to anyone going!

Close to Cathedral and City Centre

Stayed at this hotel before and stays the same with Best Western ownership. The location is perfect with an easy walk to the centre of town and good restaurants on the same street. A tram stop to the station on Line 4 is steps away as is an underground parking place. Montpellier is mostly pedestrianised with a great tram system.
The rooms overlook or open into a garden and the breakfast terrace overlooks the Cathedral.
The double beds are two singles pushed together so this can be uncomfortable unless you're not getting on with your partner.

Great location and good clean rooms, albeit a little dated. Info about where to park was difficult to find but we parked in the Rue Foch underground and it all worked out okay. Loads of bars, cafés and restaurants within an easy 10 min walk. Lovely short break and would love to return.

Charming hotel in the old town of Montpellier

The hotel is located in the Écusson, the old medieval part of Montpellier. It is within short walking distance from monuments, restaurants and shops, as well as from the train station. The staff is very nice and helpful. The hotel is comfortable and clean, although our room decoration may look a bit old.

Great Historical location

The receptionist was immediately very helpful and welcoming. He went the extra step in helping us locate ourselves and point out the popular points of interests.
When needed, the staff answered pur requests in a fast and efficient matter, all in English.
The hotel is at the corner of \"Arc de Triomphe\" TAM tram rail stop which makes it even easier to get around Montpellier.
The noise level on the back side of the hotel was very peaceful. The view on to an old garden was beautiful.
We will definitely stay again here if we come back.

Nice little hotel in the historical centre

Friendly staff, good location, compact but perfectly functional room with good WIFI and air conditioning. My room had a fabulous view over the garden and the cathedral which was a plus.
Breakfast is cold only, a bit on the skimpy side for the 12 Euro charge but the terrace is very agreeable.
I am returning to Montpellier in 2 months time and will be sure to book at Le Guilhem again.

This is a lovely little hotel in the old town of Montpellier. The location might be a little tough for older travelers; there are some steep inclines and lots of paving stones which can make getting to and from the hotel difficult, but otherwise it is a great locale, tucked away in a charming part of the city. Very quiet with several excellent restaurants nearby. There is a terrace where breakfast can be enjoyed. The staff was very helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

Nice modernized hotel in an old building.

Hotel was an easy walk with rolling cases from the station. Even though it's about a km walk it was an easy distance as the old town is pedestrianised. Room was spacious as was bathroom. Internet worked well, and staff were helpful and pleasant. Happy to go back again.

Great Hotel with Friendly Staff

We had a great one night stay here. The hotel is located within the pedestrian only zone of the city, so if you're driving contact the hotel ahead of time and they will point you to a parking lot that is about 8 Euro per night as opposed to the 21 Euro per night garage that our GPS took us to. And because it's within the pedestrian zone, you'll do a bit of walking to get there, but the surroundings are beautiful, so it's worth it. The hotel staff was very nice, accommodating, and gave great advice for restaurants and things to do. The room had a great view, updated bathroom, and plenty of room. In a quiet part of the medieval centre.

We had a room at the end of the building which was larger than others, overlooking the garden. The room was clean. It was a lovely peaceful room. Its away from the busy centre but only a short walk away. There are many cafes and restaurants nearby. Its very close to Peyrou gardens, great views from there especially beautiful at night. I would recommend this hotel. We didn't have the breakfast as a bit expensive.

Great location in the heart of the Historic centre

On arrival reception staff were brilliant. My wife and I cannot speak French but the young lady on reception immediately began speaking English realising our difficulty.
She explained about the car park near by, where Hotel guests get a huge reduction in parking fees. Hotel gives you a slip to take to carpark reception on the day you leave. We stayed weekend (reception closed Sunday) so Monday morning a 5 minute walk to carpark and paid 15Euro for the 48 hours. Then drove out of carpark with prepaid ticket at midday, excellent.
Within 20 metres walk from hotel is a Pattissieré and a café. We never had breakfast in the hotel so cannot comment on it. Coffee/Teas in room were great, staff provided extra Milk/Tea/Coffee for our room on request, thanks so much.
the Hotel is in a narrow side street near the Cathedral. and is many hundreds of years old but nicely modern inside. It does have a lift(our room on 2nd floor) to help with luggage but we used the quaint Spiral stone staicase mostly. Not a great place for anyone with Mobility issues including the sloping street to the front but not an issue to us.
Great location and right in the heart of the Historic centre of Montpellier, great hotel.

Seulement l’emplacement de l’hôtel ,la carte et la serrure magnétique de la porte ressemble à un Best Western.
La vétusté de la chambre ( ancienne chambre de bonne ,moquette tachée ….),l’ascenseur d’une autre époque dont a chaque trajet on garde l’espoir que ce ne serait pas le dernier.

Personnel au top, mais la qualité de la chambre n est pas au rdv. La chambre est médiocre : une chaise déchirée avec assise défoncée, tête de lit noirâtre de saleté (graisseuse), literie médiocre, bureau qui tient a moitié debout, , salle de bain vétuste, sizal au sol pas très clean...poubelle pas vidée

Personnel irréprochable à l’accueil de nuit, également présent le matin, très sympa et très pro.
Je pensais que Bestwestern était un gage de qualité, ce n’est clairement pas le cas ici.
Moquette dans les parties communes sale et même déchirée par endroit.
Chambre totalement défraîchie et vétuste, ridiculement petite (la 15), mal insonorisée. Alèse de lit en plastique très désagréable.
Je n’ai jamais vu une telle salle de bain dans un hôtel. Limite scandaleux.

Very nice hotel, centrally located. A bit worried about travel back to the airport, but the nearby tramline and then 620 bus workes smothly. Friendly staff. Very happy with the room ,nice outdors breakfast area.
