Great place between the ocean and the mountains, walkable from the JR line and the Shinkansen. The only small negative is that the bathtub is very slippery and a bit scary for older people. Some anti skids would be welcome in the tub.

LOVE HOTEL PIENA

It was our first visit to Kobe and we checked in at Hotel Piena on a rainy day. The front desk immediately gave us a towel to dry off. We got to our room where we stayed in a light mint green room. The hotel didn't feel old per se but more vintage with the decor and furniture and we loved it. They offered a smart phone that we could take around. It was loaded with maps and suggestions. One thing I loved was that you could say that you didn't want your room cleaned for the day and then you would receive 1000 yen to use at the cafe! I bought some jam! Last thing, and the reason why I booked this hotel, WAS FOR THE BREAKFAST BUFFET. It was everything I wanted and more. WE ate at the buffet twice. If I return to Kobe, I will be coming back here again..and again..

Unlike some or the more modern Japanese hotels this place offers a little more space in both the bedroom and bathroom. It feels a little dated but it's quaint and in good condition.

Like: Room has sufficient space, clean, walking distance to shopping areas, breakfast was awesome.

Dislike: Getting extra bottled water for my wife and myself, I had to pay for it. We had finished the 2 complimentary bottled water the day before and asked for 2 more bottled water the following day and was charged for it. Also, the air conditioner for the room didn't work well. It was hot and stuffy. Informed the hotel staff and was only provided with a small Dyson fan.

Highly recommended, and Handy phone a real bonus

Excellent location, convenient for bars & restaurants in town, and only 10 min walk to station. Incredible service - very polite, friendly, helpful staff. Furnishing style is a bit dated, and room compact (step up to bathroom & shower may be tricky if you're very tall), but clean, comfy, functional and powerful shower. Particularly brilliant is the free \"handy\" mobile for guests providing unlimited international calls (to certain locations including UK) and free wifi when in town.

Perfect hotel for Kobe in every way

We originally booked 2 nights at this hotel and we're so impressed with the cleanliness, size of the room and super comfy bed that we booked a further 2 nights, we paid about $100 US a night, can't recommend this hotel enough, the only slight let down was there was a high step to get into the bathroom but everything else was perfect, 15 mins walk from Kobe station and about 10 mins into town.

Centrally Located, Great Breakfast

Checking in was not a very good first impression. Firstly, depending on hotel staff (like the one who received us) language could be an issue. We were assigned twin beds, when we requested for a double the staff gave us options to change rooms almost every day of our stay, alternating between a twin to a double and back again. The standard room was a little tight but clean and comfortable. The hotel has bigger suites that look very nice... if you can afford them. Once we have settled down, we quite enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was fantastic.The hotel was quite centrally located to the Sannomiya Station, to the Church, restaurants, parks, etc Other than the staff who received us, the other staff were pleasant and helpful - one even took the time to give us very detailed instruction to travel to Himeji Castle (i.e. when and what trains to take, etc). All in, we enjoyed our stay... did I mention that the breakfast was fantastic? :-)

Dirty floor and smelly bathroom suite

Breakfast is ok but not brilliant. Paying 2300 yen you would get a lot more varieties and better quality in other hotels.
We were staying in top floor suite, the cleanliness is not up to Japanese standard.
Staff service is poor especially night staffs, no smiles at all and not very helpful even when not busy.
We travel around Japan for many years, we know what we can expect from a 3 and 4 stars hotels.

Nicely decorated boutique hotel style lobby and room. Lots of creative details in the room such as the phone and kettle. Came with Bvlgari toiletries. Clean and comfortable room.

Booked a 4 pax room. They packed 2 extra trolley beds in a 2 beds suite room. Room not designed for 4 pax originally.

Location not so convenient though. In between Shin Osaka Shinkansen Station and the busy Sannomiya area.

This is one of the nicest hotels in Kobe you can stay in. We were in the city for my mother's birthday, and the staff really treated her extra special - giving her a nicely designed birthday dessert during breakfast, and even giving her some gift cookies when we left.
- The breakfast has won several awards for being the best breakfast around. It truly is a remarkable presentation with so many delicious items to choose from - a lot of hot foods, including my favorite pork bellies, salmon, eggs, congee, etc, a wide variety of their award winning jams, healthy fruit juices and a lot of pastries/cakes to choose from. If you stay in this hotel, definitely have the breakfast for at least one day (it's about (24K yen)

Hotel to Sannomiya station about 10 minutes, it is recommended that passengers with luggage take taxi ride. Breakfast is very rich and delicious, the room is very elegant and clean. Next time if I have the opportunity to go to Kobe will choose Hotel Peina Kobe again. Thank you.

Great simple hotel conveniently located in Kobe. No special features with the exception of a wash and brush up loo complete with heTed seat! Very special!!!!
The breakfast buffet was outstanding. All Japanese dishes but wonderful!
We were the only westerners in the hotel. Minimal English spoken but attention to detail exemplorary.

Hotel Piena Kobe is a world-class hotel. Its staff has been superbly trained and is enthusiastic. The front desk gave us extremely good service, especially on taxi calls. The restaurant is beyond description, from Kobe beef to vegetarian fare, they have it all or will make it. The breakfasts are amazing. You will enjoy your stay.

Odd location? for ladies who love sweets

Decided to stay at the hotel, because of rated No1 Breakfast by some source in Japan...
It was hard to understand precooked One big egg omelette on the plate at Buffet table
Everybody will share, No chef or anybody will not cook your eggs?
Instead we found very good variety of sweets.
It's the nice small hotel to stay with your sisters, mother, aunts or girlfriends.
Maybe not with your Grandmothers, if she does not mind walk with a luggage more than 15 min.
From the nearest Sannomiya station or pay about $20 for each taxi ride.

Piena Suite rooms are exquisite!

Staff service was okay, not the best. No one helped with luggage or anything. Once I stepped into the suite rooms, it was amazing. The 2 suite rooms had different theme and layout. Bathrooms were huge with jacuzzi bathtubs. Room had lots of amenities and had daily turn down service, chocolates were tasty. Location is good too, about 5mins walking distance to train station and Sannomiya district which has tons of restaurants and food alleys where we found dinner for our 2 nights stay.

Close to all of key Kobe shopping and restaurants

When they say a small double room they mean a small double bed. I am thinking that I would have called the bed a king single. We also would have benefited from instructions on adjusting the air conditioning as we found the room to be quit over heated. Otherwise it is a comfortable hotel with the usual room/ bathroom amenities.

Enjoyed my experience at this hotel. Good location near train/subway station. Easy walking distance to sights and transportation. Room was decent size for Japan. Enjoyed the breakfast and it was worth the approximate $20. The bed was very firm. Too firm for me to sleep comfortably. Also there was some spot that were missed when dusting. As someone who is highly allergic to dust, this was annoying.

Perfect hotel!

This hotel was really perfect, the staff was extremely helpful, the room was big clean and well decorated. We traveled with a baby and they were kind enough to add a bed without adding a charge.
The breakfast is really HUGE and everything they serve is extremely good with a lot of diversity: pastries, Japanese traditional, cakes... You have to try it!

The hotel is located between Sannomiya, downtown Kobe, and Shin-kobe bullet train station. It is about 5-10 min. walk from either station. It is not a huge hotel, but the qualities of food and service are superb. There are always enough staff members at the front desk and elevator area, and they are ready to help you immediately. When the front desk is busy, coffee shop employee came to me and helped me out. This restaurant is very famous for its quality breakfast. Actually it is more than just a breakfast with a great selection of entrees, soups, and salads. Again, there are many people working there and constantly helping customers and making sure there is enough food and the place is kept clean. The room is not huge but is a good size. I would have liked this place more if there was a restaurant that serves Japanese food. I know this place is famous for French and sweets, but I don't want heavy breakfast everyday. There are many small nice things about the hotel too. If you tell the hotel to skip cleaning your room for a day, they will give you a voucher for a jar of their famous jam which comes in many different flavors. They offer free coffee until 10 a.m. as well as small cup of herb tea. The room has nice amenities such as humidifier, free bottle of water, etc. While this place is somewhat locationally challenged, I would stay here again happily.

Really nice hotel, good staff, comfy bed, nice pillows. I could conduct an interview in the reception area as it was quiet enough. My only complaint was that the breakfast service was so late that I missed out. I waited an hour to get in to breakfast, and probably had another 15-20 minutes to wait before I would get in, but had to leave at that point.

Hotel Piena has an incredible breakfast buffet. To the English speakers out there, most of the staff is not fluent, but they are very accommodating. The location is just a half mile from Danno Miya station, close to several department stores and other shopping. Kobe itself is a charming city, the smallest of the Osaka/Kyoto/Kobe triangle cities.

two mature Australians, a couple, stayed here for two nights...very comfortable hotel not far on foot from Shin Kobe Station...comfy room with great buffet breaky and a wonderful public bath only a minute or so from the hotel...the front desk will tell you where it is...420 yen for the public bath..lots of places to eat in Kobe and our stay was wonderful..would stay here again...recommended!!

This hotel was adequate for the one night we spent in Kobe, but I don't think I'd have wanted to stay any longer. Very dated bedrooms and facilities; it was like walking into the 80s.

A Great Spot to Stay in Kobe

Our only regret was that we didn't spend more time at the Hotel Piena. It is in a very good location and is really a nice little boutique type hotel. It is very convenient for sightseeing and shopping. Sannomiya Station and surrounds has a lot of shopping opportunities. We were there for one night to meet with a customer who lives in Kobe. He told us that the hotel was well situated for tourists and we agree. The Hotel Piena is a cozy place that makes you feel welcome. The room was adequate. Not spacious, but they do have other options for larger rooms. We thought we got good value for money.

Dessert for breakfast!

Great hotel, friendly staff and atmosphere. Very comfortable and close to everything we needed. The best part (and perhaps most surprising) was the wonderful buffet breakfast! Not only did it have all the usual Japanese and Western options, but it also included an incredible buffet of tiny hand-made desserts. We certainly felt very spoilt! Would recommend to friends and stay again!

Hotel is conveniently located, about 7 minutes walk from Sannomiya Station, but away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre; yet within close proximity to Kitano tourist spots (within walking distance). Friendly and helpful Reception staff. The Hotel Lobby was quiet and not crowded most of the time with a nicely decorated cosy cafe at the entrance. Hotel room and toilet were spacious in comparison to the usual Japanese standard. However, carpet and furniture in room were old fashioned and dated. Bedding was comfortable and clean. Only drawback was window was locked, thus no source of fresh air which was detrimental to people with allergy problem.

The room that we have gotten- superior, was spacious. We love the design and the huge bathroom. The hotel claimed that they serve the nicest dessert in Kobe but we have no chance to eat that as they close at 6pm. I mean, why 6pm? Many can't speak English in Kobe hence you may want to download some translator apps in your smartphone. The hotel receptionist might not be able to help you much as they might not understand you.

Overall, if you are looking for a spacious, quiet, condusive at lower price, Piena is the one you can go for. No regret. In fact, this is the best hotel that i have stayed during my 2 weeks Japan trip.

Our small double room was surprisingly roomy compared with our hotels in Osaka and Kyoto. As with most hotels in Japan, it is very clean and well maintained. The location is superb. It is only 15 minutes away from Former Thomas's house and 10 minutes away from the Sannomiya JR station and all the shopping malls.

Fine stay, extremely cutesy decor

The hotel was clean and comfortable, well priced for my needs. The lobby is sleek and the staff very nice. The only thing which might give some people pause is that the decor of the hotel is fairy tale-themed, and thus definitely aimed at young women. My cousin even noted this when she was helping me drop off my bags. But that is just a footnote, and otherwise the hotel was more than satisfactory. I would definitely stay here again.

Comfy, cute and reasonably close to the action

I've stayed at many modestly priced hotels in Japan, and Hotel Piena was clearly one of the best. My (single) room, while not huge, was much larger than the rooms I've had in Tokyo, Kyoto and elsewhere. So, while most budget Japanese hotel rooms can hardly fit a bed, my room at the Piena was spacious enough to also hold a small table, a comfy chair and a desk. The bathroom was roomy, too. Meanwhile, the hotel's decor is quite charming and romantic. And the location, while not quite ideal, is within reasonable walking distance of major train stations, jazz clubs, and the tourist attractions in the Kitano neighborhood. Recommended.

Pleasant and Clean

Friendly pleasant staff.Clean, quiet. Floor space in room is limited (can't sprawl a lot of luggage out). Nice coffee bar in the lobby (and a good bakery very close by on the corner). I was surprised that I needed to make a reservation to have breakfast - but maybe that indicates it is popular and good. I never made it to eat there. I would recommend it. The room is small and the bed was very firm (as I like it).

Immaculate hotel in great location

If you're used to Western hotels, you'll find the rooms small (Japanese hotels rooms were in general), but the place was immaculate and the room was comfortable. The location couldn't be any better either - it's right between the inter-city train station, the main subway station, and downtown. The price was right too. I'd definitely stay again if I find myself back in Kobe.

Good location about 10 min walk from Sannomiya station, quiet despite being on a major road. Dated and fussy decor, but not an issue when the bed was extremely comfortable, the wifi free and the price outstanding.

Nice location

Reasonable price. The staff held our luggage after checkout until our evening flight for no charge. Walking distance to central hub of transportation, shopping, and the city loop bus tour. The staff spoke little English, but went out of their way to give us directions and take good care of us.

Convenient and clean

The hotel is located about 15 mins walk from the Sanomiya station. It is very clean and has excellent amenities. The room is a bit small, and airconditioning is not always at its best, and it does not have English TV channels. Otherwise, it is great value.
