The staff is super nice and the location of the hotel is perfect. Walking distance from almost of all points of interest in Florence.
But the building has a very strong bad smell. The room smells very weird too. It makes me feel sick during the night.
If you are a person that can deal with the smells this is the place. If you have a delicate stomach, like me, I do not recommended.

We were greeted by a cheerful owner. He was willing to tell us about the area. The very small room had the windows bolted shut. It was a shame not to be able to get a bit of air into the room. The hairdryer did not work properly because it was so old that the flexible air delivery hose was completely worn out and most of the hot air as escaping through the tube.
There was no shampoo or bar soap. The shower was so small it couldn’t hold the liquid soap from the sink. We had to place this large glass soap dispensers on the floor in the shower.
The place is advertised as a Bed and Breakfast. There is no common area for guests and the breakfast is served in a coffee bar/ bar down the street. We were served a cup of coffee, a sweet roll or croissant, and a piece of toast with a bit of cheese by a waitress that was less than eager to serve us.
We were traveling through Europe on our bicycles. I contacted the owner about bike storage via e-mail months before our trip. He assured me that it was no problem and there was garage storage just down the street. He never mentioned that it would cost $25 dollars a day. He acted as though that was a deal. He did offer to allow us to leave them in the common entry for a be night. It still would have cost us $50 for our 3 day stay for 2 bicycles that sit in the corner. He went on and on that it was a super deal because he negotiated 26 hours for us instead of the standard 24 hours. We renegotiated with the garage for $10.

Good location for exploring

The hotel was in a good location to see various sites in Florence and the breakfast at the nearby cafe was pleasant enough but limited to a croissant and a ham and cheese toasty every day. It was also only available from 8:15 so on our leaving day we could not have breakfast so we paid extra for nothing there as the cafe wasn't open when we left. The bed was also very hard. The room was clean and spacious though and we ended up with an ensuite bathroom which was nice although the shower was small and the toiletries were limited. The family were very helpful and although it was close to many things, it wasn't noisy. Wasn't a picturesque part of town either though but that is part of what you pay. Overall I liked it but the beds mean I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

This place was a little quirky as you had to ring the bell to get in upon arrival since it was on the second floor of a regular residence building. However the location was superb and right next door was a great gelato place. We were there on May 17th and there was no option for air conditioning but other than that the room was comfortable and clean along with having with a refrigerator . The manager let us store our bags in his office after check out which was very nice as we got to spend the day in Florence without concerns for storing our bags before heading back to Montacontini on the train later that evening. We stayed for one night in Florence as we were on a travel package that had us in Monticatini for 6 nights.

Perfect location! A mile from train station, steps from Duomo!
This B&B is unique in my opinion if you want to experience time and fashion centuries back. The owner Signor Alessio was a great host, very pleasant and friendly! Provided maps, tips, umbrellas, ect. The Room was specious, clean. Few things were not to my liking. First, the very firm mattress and only one pillow per person. decorative pillows were too small to use.I didn't ask if more pillow was available, maybe it was, i just didn't ask. Second,there was no counter space in the bathroom, couldn't put my toiletry stuff anywhere in the bathroom. Also the old fashion wall mounted hair dryer wasn't very convenient. Although I mentioned these minor things it didn't take away a pleasure of staying at this adorable B&B. If you are high maintenance people and planning to spend extra time sleeping and staying in the room, this hotel might not be for you. We didn't regret staying here at all.

The Best

Except for the climb up four stair levels Casacenti was an absolute gem. Located in the heart of Siena old town it was easy to find our way around. Although our stay was short Stefano and his son made us feel right at home. Casacenti is the type of offering that makes traveling enjoyable. Ask for Pink or Green room for your stay.

The best place to stay in Florence

This B&B is a must stay in Florence! We stayed for 4 nights in July 2017 and could not have asked for anything better. The B&B is located in a lovely street with restaurants, super markets and gelato bars. The room was very clean and spacious and it was just want we wanted. The owner Alessio and his family are very lovely and extremely hospitable. Upon our arrival, we were given maps and told where to go and what to see, it was a great help. Upon departure Alessio kindly arranged a taxi for us the night before and left a note with the details for us. We rate this B&B 12 out 10! Alessio's cousin also has a restaurant across the road & we had the best pasta we have EVER had there, definitely give it a go!

Poor Aircon. Late Breakfast.

Nice welcome but they was trying to save money on aircon. Was asked not to have too cold when we went out and we did this for the first two days. However when the maid or owner came in they turned it off. It isn't nice walking into a boiling hot room after being out all day in 90 degree heat. When it was put on it took hours before you actually felt cool. The other thing is that the complimentart breakfast is at a cafe next door but does not open til 08:30. Because we had things planned i.e morning Vespas tour and early trains to Rome and Venice this meant that we had to pay for breakfast elsewhere more often than not. Overall the hotel was clean and well located.

Best hotel ever!

Upon arrival my friend and I were warmly greeted by the owner like long lost family and immediately felt comfortable about our stay. The owner took us to his office to square away paper work and helped us with our bags and then very simply explained the map he gave us so we would have no trouble getting around the city. He then escorted us to our room and showed us around and I must say it was a beautiful room. Even the bathroom was gorgeous. On this trip we stayed at 5 different hotels throughout Italy and by far this was our favorite! Everything was charming and clean and comfortable. The bedding was beautiful. The A/C worked very well. Lighting was great and the room was extremely spacious. The location was perfect too. Walking distance to every major point in the city. We were also given breakfast vouchers for both days of our stay at a cafe a few doors down as well as a discount at his family's restaurant down the street which was outstanding. I would recommend this place over and over again and if I ever make it back to Florence I will definitely stay here again!

Greeted by owner Alessio who was so nice and friendly. He was very helpful in showing us where to go on the map to find some of the attractions. He recommended a lovely place to eat that night which is a place he manages. Great food and staff.

You can walk to the historic section from this location a few blocks away. I found our room to very clean but a bit small. We were in Room #2. There is a TV and a small bathroom with shower. A small bottle of shampoo and hand soap is provided. We only stayed one night so it was fine for that period of time. Cozy and clean.

Excellent little hotel in a pefect location

Visited Florence for a few days' of nearby business travel and wanted to be close to the cultural and artistic sites. This hotel was perfect. They had a deal with a nearby parking garage and cafe for parking and breakfast. There's plenty of cafes, bars, grocery stores and restaurants and all the main sites are a short walk from the door. The people were great, the room was nice. All good here. If they had a blackout curtain in my room that would be great because the neighbouring building had a floodlight going, but that was easy to ignore once I closed my eyes. Great place - highly recommended!

I had a great time in Locanda Dei Ciompi. Room no 4 was huge, very clean and very comfortable.
Alessio the owner was very helpful. I had a problem with the lights and he came in early morning to fix the problem. I will definitely go back to this place when in florence and will surely recommend this to friends back in NZ.

We stayed here 3/31-4/3/2015. The place doesn't look like much from the street but most are like that in Italy. We were greeted by the general manager Alessio, a very personable gentleman who came downstairs, helped us with our bags, and got us checked in. Besides being about the nicest guy I've ever met, he was a wealth of knowledge for pretty much anything we wanted to know about Florence. Can't say enough about Alessio!
The room was nice and comfy and spotlessly clean. Bathrooms in most Italian places are very small but this one was a bit roomier. The last day we were upgraded to a \"deluxe\" room which was large with soaring high ceilings, beautiful wood floors, which our regular room had as well, and a huge bathroom. VERY NICE!!!
The complimentary breakfast was at a café about a 30 second walk down the street which included your choice of assorted pastries, juice, water, and cappuccino. Coffee in Italy is excellent.
I can wholeheartedly recommend Locanda dei Ciompi to anyone. It has a great location (short walk to everything), impeccably run, nice rooms with private bathroom, and spotlessly clean. SPLENDIDO !

Really good location and room spacious and clean. Our only gripe with this hotel was the noise, both from outside and within the B&B itself. We were in room 2 which in itself was nice but right next door to the external bathroom for room number 3. Every time they went to use it the noisy sliding door disturbed us and once you were awake you could hear clearly the shower, hair dryer etc… This was no fault of the occupants in room 3 but a design flaw. Our rather interrupted sleep each night would be the only thing that would put me off this hotel - I would take ear plugs!

I how how the hotel is so close to the bus station to S.M.N, historical attractions, and the family restaurant and bakery. Without doubt, I will be booking the same hotel next time I go to Florence! I love the owner and he was very helpful and friendly. Just ask anything you want to know about Florence and he would be able to tell you!
A small note, I just want to have a room with a bathroom inside that will be perfect! I will give it a 5 star if I don't need to go to the \"private bathroom\" outside of my room.

DISAPPOINTING AND VERY POOR BREAKFAST THAT YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT IN A BAR NEAR BY THE HOTEL,
THE ROOM HAS AN OLD FASHION TELEVISION THAT DOESN'T WORK, THE OWNER PROMISED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT BUT NEVER HAPPENED.
TO MUCH NOISE SPECIALLY LATE IN THE EVENING AND EARLY MORNING WHEN SOME GUESTS USE THE OUTSIDE TOILET AND BATHROOM THAT IT WAS NEXT TO OUR ROOM.

The owner of this BB is very nice, warm and helpful. He knows the area really well. He introduced us a small local restaurant, fantastic! Convenient location, 10 to 15 mins walk to the train station. A gelato store is right by the entrance and a very good restaurant is a few steps away. One thing I would like to recommend is that contact the owner if you plan to arrive early or late and let him know your time. The owner doesn't live there. He may not be in the hotel when you arrive, and you won't be able to get access. If you let him know in advance, I am sure he will be waiting for you.

Good place, with character, in Florence

Not a usual hotel but a Bed &Breakfast in an old house in the historical centre of Florence. Make no mistake, “old“ doesn’t mean “run down”. After you enter the old gate, specific to many buildings in Florence, you’ll find yourself in a very welcoming, comfortable house - clean , renovated- but still preserving an old look, enough to add some character and “flavour” to your stay.
The owner is a very kind man, making all efforts to make you feel welcome and relaxed. He waited for us to check in even after 8 pm ( we were late) and he handled very professionally our panic when we realised we forgot one of our bags in the taxi that brought us to the hotel. Fortunately the taxi driver brought back our bag in the next 10 min. THANK YOU!

A short walk from Santa Croce and not too far from the Duomo either. Great location! Had a problem with the shower as it took a while for the water to heat up and then it would not drain. Wifi was also spotty and did not work in the room. To top it off, the owner was constantly hovering and leaving us post-it notes to do this, or that. A little annoying. However, the location was so good that we would have probably forgiven anything. And the absolute BEST gelato we have ever had was right next door!!

Cute and Romantic B&B in Florence

We loved our stay here! Out of all of our 7 stops on our honeymoon through Europe, this was our favorite hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was a nice size with a good sized bathroom. The window overlooked the piazza and we liked to keep our window open while we were relaxing in the afternoons. Everything you need is nearby: gelato, restaurants, beverage shop (we bought a few great bottles of chianti there), a large market (we bought great prosciutto, cheeses, and baguette here for a cheap lunch and had a really nice time sitting at the table in our room eating and drinking the afternoon away, looking out over the piazza.) We were able to walk everywhere we wanted in the city and never felt like we were far away.

We were looking forna budget hotel with a great location and were glad we chose Locanda De Ciompi. The room was clean and had enough space for us and our bags. They even had a small closet which helped us keep things organized. Only 6 rooms and we happened to get #3, the only room which didn't have an adjoining bathroom. Although the bathroom in the hall was only used for our room, it would have been convenient and comfortable to have been given one of the other rooms...especially considering we were on our honeymoon. Since they knew this in advance of our arrival it was a bummer they didn't consider offering us a better, more private option. Besides this we loved the location. Convenient walk to...everything and some great little squares and lively areas for us when we wanted to stay near at night. I was impressed with the cleanliness but growing up in an Italian household I didn't expect anything less. The room did smell a bit musty upon entering and the AC never seemed to work. Luckily the weather was fine and we are not hot people. Do choose this hotel if younwant a great location for day touring and near lightlife without being loud on the immediate street, BUT do ask for a room with a en-suite bathroom and a strong air conditioner.

Great Little Hotel in Good Location

Every thing about this hotel, ( actually Bed and Breakfast), was good value for money. The room was clean and pleasant, the bathroom very good. The owner of the hotel was very friendly and extremely helpful.
The location of the hotel is excellent - very close to all the main attractions but also with a \"local\" feel.

Although breakfast is not taken in the hotel, but few steps from the hotel in a street restaurant, this is not a problem at a all and you get a fair meal. Live Like a Local

Sometimes you just luck out. This was clearly one of those times. Wanting a hotel that provided comfort and ease for walking the town, and craving the feeling of being a local (rather than a tourist), we read about Locanda dei Ciompi. It fit all our needs. The welcoming embrace (not literally) of the proprietor was our entry into Florence. He set the tone for unwavering hospitality. Our room was spacious enough for us --a couple and their teenage daughter. The breakfast is steps away at an adorable cafe (where we returned for an afternoon espresso and Campari and soda.) and serves delicious sweet pastries and ultra good coffee. We loved the fact we weren't bombarded by other tourist hotels in our block. We liked even more the local produce market and cheese/sausage/olive market that was within a two block walk. We want to move to Florence -- and to this quaint \"hotel\". The small sign outside doesn't reflect the huge warmth within this second story walk-up.

\"Hotel\" is too much to say. It is a B&B and don't expect to much

It is a good place to stay very few days and pass the night. There are not food services at all. The breakfast is provided in a place close to the hotel. In the hotel just gives some coupons to pick it up a cup of coffe and a croissant.

One of the rooms hasn't the bathroom inside. So you have to get away of the room and walking outside.There is not phone in the rooms.

The owner of the hotel makes the check in and out and is a kind man.

The hotel was close to all the must see sights yet in a neighborhood with some good restaurants and wine bars. Alex, the owner, was very gracious and helpful. Since we didn't speak Italian, it would have been nice if there was at least one english language channel on the TV, but we didn't spend much time in the room so it was just a minor inconvience. I would definately recomend this hotel.

new owners-have to carry luggage one flight up. helpful.. breakfast at a cafe down the street 1 minute away. rolls cofee and juice.. Florence is reativly small so everything is walking distance. there is a self serve laudry 5 min away. got lucky, office is not manned full time. as we arrived the owners arrived to let us in, otherwise you have to call them to meet you. I would tell them your arrival time before hand so you don't have to wait to get in. No hotel sign just a call button on door.with their name and phone number. Its a metal door. they could use a sign. It's more akin to a B&B because of its size. just a few rooms but.worth the stay

Overall the hotel was clean and nice. The location was decent and felt safe. Also, it was in a good overall location. If walking to or from the train station, expect a 30 minute walk.

Great for a couple able to walk

When we arrived there was no one there to meet us and this was very upsetting we could not get an answere on the phone and it was only when some fellow guests arrived and gave us a phone number from the reception and we went next door to a shop and asked to use the phone did we get the propieter who came. Upsetting the inside was fine but dark. Enjoyed breakfast in cafe. Meeting American couple GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Private,elegant,do your own thing kind of hotel

Great small,family hotel in a very lively area of Florence,near the historical centre.
We where welcomed by Allesio,the owner of the hotel and made to feel at home. Once the key from the room and entrance was handed to us we could relax. The room was testefully decorated and confortable. The bathroom bright and clean. No TV,but the next door coffee/ bar shop PLAZZ, it was makeing up for it,with a very friendly,informal atmosphere. The breakfast was arranged in the Plazz by the hotel and we loved the morning interaction with the locals. An other plus is the fact that the hotel is 15min.walk to the railway station,making the commute easy.
In short if you looking for a private,lovely place in the centre of the beautiful Florence,you just found it.

Really great budget hotel. Well located- easy walk to all the sights but in a quieter pocket of the city so no noise at night.

Fantastic Hotel highly recommended

Lovely hotel in excellent location and easy to reach from the train station.

Ricardo was great taking time to explain where all the sights were and recommended some good restaurants in the area also, he could not have been any more pleasant or helpful.

Room was for family of 3 (48, 46 and 15 son) and large and the bathroom was also large. Fridge in room which was great, no TV and not missed - too busy and a cooling unit much appreciated.
The room has open wooden beams above and full Parque floor and very tastefully decorated keeping with what you would imagine a room in Florence to look like, cosy-atmospheric-comfortable.

Breakfast was served a few doors along the road in La Loggia and this was excellent with any coffee or tea plus 2 pastries/buns which were amazing. If you wanted water you can at no extra cost. The staff here were all friendly and very happy even with the large number of local customers coming in. Worth a visit even if you don't stay at Ciompi.

Two minor points about our stay were renovations we're under way on floor above with some dust settling in our room but easily cleaned away and we only got 1 toilet roll over the 2 days for us as a family. We would put the toilet issue down to Ricardo being busy with the Hotel and renovations and we got by and the dust is a symptom of someone looking after the Hotel. You will see these did not stop us giving full marks for the Hotel and would recommend to everyone.

Great find!

The B&B is in a great location relative to all the site and transport routes. Riccardo (manager) was very friendly and helpful and really looked after us! The rooms were spacious and comfortable (although one can hear quite a bit of movement from the apartments above). The breakfast was a a cafe down the road which served great food and coffee and was very popular with the locals. The adress is a bit hard to find as there are not obvious signs but the location is perfect. would definately stay there again if we return to Florence!

There is no reception for this so called hotel, because its more like a house and u get to stay in a bedroom. You cannot catch hold of the hotel owner who is supposedly the receptionist, if you want something. No soap or anything in the room. The duvet hasn't been cleaned in ages.

Great location for sights

Although difficult to find initially (lookout for the small sign just before the piazza), this is in a great location for visiting the main sights. The bloke running the hotel was happy to offer tips on things to do/see, make bookings, and suggested a great restaurant for Fiorentina steak(a must!). The nice breakfast was through a local cafe which, with all the hustle and bustle, felt like a real Italian start to the day!

Great value for a short trip.

Excellent value - the room and facilities were basic, but clean and fine for a short trip; about half the price of a hotel. No TV but free wireless internet access. The concierge is only around during the day, so you do need to arrive before 8pm. The room overlooked a busy street, with many people walking past, but few cars. It was a bit noisy, but shutting the double glazed window kept it to a minimum most of the time, and their was air conditioning in the room. For breakfast you get a voucher to use in the local cafe, which provides a limited Italian style breakfast of coffee and croissant / pastry. There is limited table space, but it isn't really a problem, as most of the locals make only fleeting visits, staying as long as it takes them to eat their pastry and gulp their espresso whilst standing at the counter. It's fascinating to sit and watch, the system seems incredibly efficient when compared to our local branch of Costa.
Final recommendation, if you want to eat with the locals and not pay exaggerated prices, go to the trattoria, 'la Ghiotta' a hundred metres down the street (left out of the main door). The waiter there was extremely helpful, speaks reasonable English, and the food is authentic and reasonably priced (about 40 euros for two people including wine).
In summary, not ideal if you want a luxury hotel experience, but if you are looking for a clean, comfortable base, right in the very centre of Florence, you really can't go wrong.

A 3.0 rating...NOT a 4.5

We stayed one night here, and would not return, but you get what you pay for. The location cant be beat. Watch out for Room #3. It was not that comfortable. The room was in front of a VERY noisy street. The windows do close and we were greatful that is wasn't the height of summer or we would have cooked. The A/C didn't work. Make sure you request an ensuite bathroom, then be prepared to not get it. The bathroom was down the hall. We scheduled a taxi for the next afternoon, and decided to catch an earlier train and waited for Ricardo to show up at 11:00am, but didn't, so at 11:20am we had to leave or we would have missed our train. We didn't get to check out properly. Just be aware that there is really no one on duty after check in. If you take all this into consideration you will probably enjoy this place. As a budget traveler, I like to try and find those small budget gems in the cities I visit, and have stayed in worse. This is NOT a 4.5 rating in my opinion, I would give this place a 3 for location.

Best value in Florence, have already recommended it and would definitely go back

Chose this b&b because of its quiet but central location and low cost. It exceeded all our expectations : the room was exceptionally clean, with a large comfortable bed, mini fridge and the usual facilities. Riccardo was fantastic: we got the feeling that he would have helped with anything, in his gentle, laid back way. One of the highlights was the breakfast voucher we received each day - this is exchanged at a caffe a few doors down and we thoroughly enjoyed the authentic Italian experience. The room was quiet due to the double glazing and opening onto the pedestrianised street below.

Great stay near the heart of Florence

Locanda dei Ciompi was a great little hotel near the heart of Florence. Riccardo was a wonderful host and upon check in gave us a large amount of information about Florence - attractions we shouldn't miss, restaurants based on what type of dining we were looking for, and much more. We tried out one of the restaurants and it was the best of our whole trip to Italy!

The hotel itself is very nice, clean, and modern. The room we stayed in had high ceilings and elegant decor. Riccardo provides you with a little ticket for breakfast to redeem at a nearby cafe that had excellent pastries and cappuccino. The hotel is located within a 5 minute walk of the Duomo and 15 minute walk of Ponte Vecchio.

The only downsides of our stay were having an external bathroom (not really a big deal since it was private but still not ideal - we were the only room like this) and not having someone on site 24-7 so we didn't know where to leave our key when we checked out.

All in all, I would highly recommend Locanda dei Ciompi. The price was very reasonable, the location and service were great, and the hotel was spotless.

Extremely Noisy

Based on the hotel website you are lead to believe that the bathrooms are within the bedrooms, this is true except for one room where the bath is down the hall. Be specific when making a reservation to request a bath within the room. The hotel itself is small, 5 rooms, the room was pleasant but the hotel service was not. We stayed 10 days and not once did housekeeping change our towels. After 8 days we ended up finding the towel closet and changing towels ourselves. This hotel boasts quiet although it is located on a pedestrian walkway (no traffic allowed) people were out until 5:00 in the morning partying every night. We found if we closed the windows this cut down on the noise along with running the air conditioning, but the air did not always work, fortunately this only lasted two days. If you need quiet to sleep this is not the place for you. The hotel breakfast consists of a coffee and pastry which you have to walk down the street to a bar to retrieve. Convenient to the hotel is a grocery store which is handy for picking up any food items this was about the only plus to this hotel.

A few hickups but you get what you pay for.

Stayed a week in early Oct 2011. Fab location but not easy to find as entrance is a door with a grill between icecream parlour (delicious) and a tiny furniture shop, with a push bell and intercom. Once inside, up one set of stairs into small hall with rooms off. Nice welcome, a very friendly Riccado who looks about 21 and who speaks good English. We had requested a twin room as we are two friends, but Riccado said Expedia info was incorrect - 4 double rooms and a triple. He gave us the triple which we appreciated, but he said we might have to move rooms if he needed the triple. No tv, but a small (not very efficient) fridge. Room and en-suite were lovely, but room was to rear of hotel with a wall against the lower 3 ft of the window topped by an abutting balcony/ concrete courtyard belonging to another house. But had fine mesh grill to keep Mozzies out, and although no view, room was nice. Unfortunately a couple of days later we returned from a day out to find he had moved everything, inc personal stuff from drawers and bathroom, into another room! We were furious! Stuff from fridge was put in a cupboard all muddled up, as there was no fridge! Several items missing inc slippers, flannel, etc.We decided to make best of it. This room also at back, no mesh, handle missing from en-suite door, and a double bed! Not good. But hotel perfectly placed, vouchers system for breakfast excellent, great little cafe/bar, great choise. Except Riccado overslept one day so no vouchers! But OK.

Beware in Summer No A/C or it does not work

We stayed in the Locanda for four days in August.The breakfast at the local cafe had the \"best\" pastries & coffee. If you want more than one item for breakfast ask them.Service was nonexistent during our 4 days at Locanda. We had trouble contacting the hotel prior to arrival.The number listed did not work.I called Expedia from Paris; Expedia called the hotel to confirm our late arrival.Thanks Expedia. Ricardo was there when we arrived Saturday night at 8 pm. That was the first and last time, we saw anyone who could help us with hotel service.10 minutes after we were shown our room, the AC did not work.Ricardo was gone.We left on the morning of the fourth day, without checking out, no one was around to check us out. The cleaning was completed daily. The major concern was the AC did not work. We slept with the windows open all four nights. It was hot humid and very uncomfortable. We then had the mosquitoes to attend with. My wife was not happy with the nightly attacks by them. The wonderful service noted in other reviews was not seen. You are on your own, after you check in.Another family asked us, if Ricardo or anyone was around as they had locked their key in one of their two rooms. Good thing they had two rooms.The morning we left, we spoke with a young couple in the street, trying to check in. They had been trying to get in to the hotel without any luck.Great location, however expect little to nothing for service.Maybe the management was on vacation as well?

Locanda dei Ciompi - good location for sights

Good location for walking to all sights and the area felt reasonably safe even late at night.
Air-conditioning didn't work and we were severely bitten by mosquitos as windows had to stay open at all times. This meant that the annoying alarm from equipment in the adjoining property was a constant feature from very early morning to late at night. Luckily we were out and about most of the time but it got very annoying nevertheless (along with the squeaky floor and shaking wardrobe every time you walked across the room - a feature of the age of the building - the price you pay for a room with character).
Room was very dark but high ceilings meant that it didn't feel claustrophobic. Sheets and bathroom were nice and clean.
Ricardo, when he was around, was very helpful and friendly and only to willing to suggest places to visit and eat at.
Breakfast is a pastry and coffee in a bar down the road so if you have older children you may need to augment it with fruit and pastries from the nearby supermarket, but we loved the experience of sitting in the busy bar amongst the locals as they also came in for their breakfast.
Ultimately, we were looking for a place to use as a base for a visit to Florence, not a hotel to spend our days in, and this hit the spot and was a reasonable price.

Ecxellent location and friendly staff

This little hotel is located in the center, in walking distance to the main Florence attractions. We arrived late and Ricardo was very accommodating. He suggested the parking garage with the best deal in the area, and the best value eatery only about 5 min away walking.
The air conditioning system didn't work in the whole building and Ricardo brought two fans to ease the discomfort while he waited for a repairman who came and fixed the AC next day.
Breakfast is in a bistro next door but one only gets one pastry and one drink. Quite good but not enough.
WiFi internet signal is not the best but it worked well enough.
Overall, this was a very good experience and we would come back any time.

Locanda dei Ciompi

The AC was not working at all and the windows had been left open when we arrived. Our room was infested with mosquito bugs and the front desk has limited hours. Like other hotels, we hoped to drop off our baggage in the front area until our check-in time, but no one was available until the noon check-in. The telephone number did not connect us to anyone and the building was locked from the outside, so we were locked out on the street until a nice neighbor sharing the building let us inside. The bed and breakfast manager was very nice and helpful once he arrived though. The room itself was very nice, but we spent most of the night awake hunting mosquito bugs.

Don't think will go back

B&B means you are given a voucher to go down the street to the corner cafe for a cup of coffee and 1 crossant. The voucher was placed outside the door on the floor. My son in a separate room did not get his, probably somebody else took it. Why wasn't the voucher slipped under the door? The A/C in the room was turned on, but was hardly felt, and the weather was stifling hot. Can't open the window or the mosquitoes will get in. The sole owner/proprietor not availble when we wanted to check out but leave luggage for later pick up. Good thing I only stayed one night.

Define Air-conditioning

Don’t stay here! It is a really ridiculous hostel:
1) We arrived at 1pm but our room was not ready, so we had to leave our backpacks there and went out till 3pm so we could check in as advised by Ricardo, the owner. We went back to the hostel only to be informed by Ricardo again that our room was not ready as the housemaid hadn’t come to clean up the rooms.
2) We were left no choice but started sightseeing and then we went back to the hostel at 11pm. A note stuck outside our room (number 5), saying that Ricardo made a mistake and had to move us to room number 1. Moving was not a problem since we hadn’t settled yet. What so abominable was Ricardo left our room key in the doorway and guess what? Room number 1 was occupied by other guests! And there were other guests but no security guard in the hallway! Ricardo simply left our belongings in the room he wanted us to go to with the keys in the doorways! We immediately checked if anything was stolen from our backpack becus I bought some jewels when I was in Lake Como!
3) After entering the room number 1, we tried to turn on the air conditioner but only warm air came out. We went to other rooms and ask our ‘neighbours’ and none of them got air-conditioning! The lady staying in Room 2 said Ricardo argued with her saying that as long as there was air coming out, there was air-conditioning!!! And she was also moved from Room 5 to room 2!!!
4) We told Ricardo we would leave early for Rome but he didn’t show up! So, we had to leave the keys in the doorway. We were smart enough to take pictures of the room and the shower so if anything was missing or broken after we left and before we moved in, we wouldn’t have to pay.

Wish we could have stayed longer!!!

This hotel was wonderful! Ricardo, the owner, was extremely helpful and kind. When we arrived he gave us a map and helped us plan our visit to Florence. He also suggested some incredible local restaurants near most of the places we were interested in seeing. Ricardo even made last minute reservations for us for the Academia and the Ufizzi Gallery. If it wasn't for him we may not even have gotten in!

The location was perfect for walking to all the tourist attractions of Florence. Also, there is a small grocery store half a block away that has anything you might need.

The room was great as well. The bed was comfortable and the room was very nicely decorated. The bathroom looked like it had recently been remodeled.

Overall we had a fantastic time and would love to come back for another stay sometime!

Great find, close to the centre, but among the locals.

Our only disappointment with this B and B was that the owner, Riccardo, was not there on the day we were leaving, nor available on his mobile, when we could have done with some help arranging a taxi and with our luggage (there's no lift). However, we looked upon it as an initiative test - and managed!
He was very pleasant and welcoming on our arrival, helped us with our luggage and offered help with info on Florence, restaurants etc; he spoke excellent English.
Our room was large, clean and comfortable, with lots of character, and the shower room was great - very spacious and clean. Rooms were cleaned each day.
It was about a 10 minute walk to the Duomo or Santa Croce and close enough for us to walk to restaurants south of the river as well as more central ones.
For breakfast, we were given vouchers for a friendly nearby patisserie where we breakfasted in typical Italian style on coffee and pastries, although there were rolls and savoury croissants on offer too.
We loved being in an area which was full of locals. Being a weekend, the nearby squares were packed with people of all ages in the evenings, just chatting, listening to music etc.
As a B and B, you don't get the facilities of a hotel; no restaurant, bar, lift, spa, 24 hour service etc, but if you want a clean, friendly place to sleep, close to all of Florence's attractions, the Locanda dei Ciompi fits the bill - at a fraction of the price of most hotels; and when I'm on a city break, that's what I'm after.

Pleasant b&b in a nice location

Pleasant B&B on a bustling little street in the old city center within walking distance of the Duomo. Large, comfortable room. The friendly clerk Ricardo recommended some good restaurants and a bike rental shop and got me reservations at the galleries. I'll stay here again if I return to Florence.

Great hotel! 100% recommend!

It is an excellent hotel! the best one i stayed in Italy. Very romantic decorations, nice staff, delicious breakfast in a cafe near the hotel.Bathroom is large and clean. Because of the double windows, room is quiet. There is a ventage market every Sunday near the hotel, very interesting. a supermarket and many shops near the hotel, very convenient. The only thing is that it is a little far away from the train station if you take luggage with you, but you can take a bus.

within walking distance of everywhere although a bit tricky to find as outside sign is very small the room we had was clean and adequate for us. The only drawback is the breakfast at the local coffee shop which means a cup of coffee and a snack only so not enough if you are used to a buffet breakfast but having said that it was a opportunity to mix with the locals

Nice surpise in Florence

It was a nice little Bed and Breakfast in a residential building on a pedestrian stree. Great location from sights, shopping, but quiet. The room was big, tastefully decorated, and updated. Bathroom was big and efficient. We were only staying for one night, but was able to leave luggage at the office, so we had plenty of time to browse around. Don't miss visiting the meat market close by. We had a most wonderful local experience having lunch inside the market. 10e taxi fare was well worth it from the train station was well worth it to avoid the crowd and getting lost.

Riccardo was extremely nice and helpful. Upon check-in he gave us a map and wrote down all the main tourist spots and some very good restaurants (Acquacotta!) and other places of interest. Since the hotel is not on a main road, they will call a taxi for you when you need to head to the airport.

The walls were a little thin, so if you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs, but the neighborhood is very quiet, which is great considering that it is a 5 min walk from the Duomo.

We would definitely stay here again.

Good basic B&B, with easy access to town centre and restaurants

Having got the bus from Pisa Airport, we arrived around 1900 and were given a warm welcome. The young lady, as well as all other staff we saw, spoke good English, so no problem for us there! The room was clean and the bed nice and big, if a little hard for me. There were plenty of towels in the well-equipped bathroom and everything was clean and shiny (shower, toilet, bidet , wash basin (no actual bath)). Breakfast was included and was brought to our room. We ordered it at different times each day, and we had to get up early twice, but it was always delivered on time. Local restaurants were just a five minute walk away, the Duomo ten minutes and the Train Station twenty minutes. Excellent value!

Great place to stay.

Hotel close to everything in Florence. Clean rooms. Friendly owner who was very helpful and speaks english very well. We would recommend this hotel and would absolutely stay here again when in Florence!
