Very most special historic place. Other than wardrobe door falling off and getting military police called for yelling when it angered me for I was exhausted hoping to shower and go to bed. I for a moment mistakenly thought it was OK to let off some steam for a moment since other guests my first two nights woke me up many times talking very loudly at 2am, 3am, and 4am with no regard for quiet hours nor the sleep of other guests. I was charged 100 Euros for the wardrobe door falling off upon check out which I felt was unfair for the employee the day before I had spoke with about it said everything would be fine and not to worry about it. I wasn't the only guest who also experienced paranormal phenomenon in this most historic facinating building nearly 500 years old for on my 3rd night when coming out of shower at about 2am, a young women stepped out of her room crying that she'd seen a ghost. I told her it's OK we're just human I cry sometimes too. My stay would had been perfect had I not had a trouble with the wardrobe door falling off sending me into anger and anxiety. It was so horrible having military police at my door dressing me down and then having to pay 100 Euros while put in great fear which was beyond wrong and bad. If you're interesting in Machiavelli, Medici's, and historical Florentine, then a stay in Bavaria hotel will be perfect for it was beyond fascinating to be honest.

Such a cute hotel. Literally in the middle of EVERYTHING. You can walk out, make a right and the Milkeria is right there which was one of our favorite spots for espresso and crepes.

The shower got hot and cold a few times but it was fine. The only thing I wish the coffee machine to be available for longer hours. It’s only available from 8-11

It is a shared bathroom which wasn’t really an issue but it was always clean.

Definitely would come back again. It’s nothing fancy. Definitely old fashioned but the location is great.

We traveled as a family with our 2 teenage boys during Christmas. The location was great, just 2 mins from Duomo and right in the heart of many shops and restaurants. The checkin was smooth and great communication through whatsapp. We booked the quadruple room and it was quite spacious with a queenbed and 2 twin beds. The building is a 16th century building and it felt great to see the character in the room with 20ft ceilings, old paintings etc. there is no elevator which was not a big issue for us even with luggage but something to think about. The room cleaning was done everyday, wifi was super fast. There is also no ironbox but you can get one from reception on request. There are many pastry and gelato shops within quick walking distance and several great places for lunch and dinner.

The bathroom was new and renovated and was modern however rooms maintain their old 16th century charm - they are however clean and comfy and we had no issues.

All in all, a great stay.

my parents had a wonderful stay at this hotel in Florence, just steps away from the Duomo — the location couldn’t be better! The rooms are surprisingly spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Two negative points were the amount of stairs, hotel situated on 3rd floor with no lift and the bathroom was shared.
However, the building is 500 yrs old and interior is beautiful. Staff very friendly and informative. As a solo female traveler I wanted to be in the city centre so the negatives were a trade off for safety and proximity to the city. I would defiantly stay again but maybe bring a smaller case :)

At the heart of Florence, this hotel is less than a 15-minute walk from all the major museums. It's close to shops, dining, and the Piazza della Signoria, as well as the Duomo.
The hotel itself is clean and friendly looking. We had a large room with shower (no toilet) for 4 people, which worked well. The temperature each day there was about 93F/34C, so we took multiple cool showers each day.
However, there were three beds (a double and two singles) for the four of us, and only two fans (no a/c). When I asked about another fan, the afternoon staff attendant said that they didn't have any more. Given summer temperatures and no a/c, they should have extra fans. Also, when I told him how hot one of our fans got on the first night, he got very defensive and insisted that no one had ever complained about that before (as if it were our fault).
There was a nice coffee area with a good coffee machine (cappuccino, espresso, hot chocolate, etc.) that was free and self-service in the morning. There was also a nice pitcher of a refreshing infusion (lemon grass, I think) that was good. We took advantage of both of these things.

The location was the only redeeming part of this hotel. Our room has no air conditioning and the manager was unwilling to do anything about it. We took a reading one evening and it was 101.8F in our room. We decided to sit a bit in their reception area because they had a small AC unit there. While we were there the manager turned it off because he wanted to “save energy” whilst sitting in his office with an AC blasting. Don’t stay here.

What was not mentioned was the property is 500 years old and a former home of the Medici family. Like staying in a palace. For example 15 ft timbered ceilings, large windows withy what looked like original hardware. Definitely a remarkable facility. It is on the second / third floors with no elevator.

We stayed 2 nights @ the Hotel Bavaria. I don't think we had the best room but we were fairly comfortable. There is no A/C, a fan was supplied but unfortunately the one we had did not work well & did stop working. The fan was replaced but it was noisy. Wifi worked well, bed was comfortable, lots of hangers in the closet, and there was a safe & kettle. No TV. Our room had a sink & shower, toilet was down the hall. There were 2 communal bathroom and both were clean & well presented. There was never any coffee in the communal breakfast room, just packages of instant coffee & sugar only. No fridge. The rooms in a historic building (16th century?) so it was like staying in a castle and that was pretty awesome. Climbing up the stairs was brutal even though we were prepared for that. The location was perfect, short distance to the heart of Florence If ever in Florence again, would be happy to stay here again.

The management was welcoming, attentive, and recommended places to eat. There were 3 flights of stairs to get to our rooms. We just took our time to walk up. It wasn't a problem for us. Whilst a 16th century building may entice you, the service and condition of the rooms here is not worth the initial aesthetic charm. We were aware that air conditioning is not provided, but were not expecting the absolute sauna that was our room. When we asked, politely, if there was anything that could be done, we were greeted with mostly disinterest and asked ‘what do you expect us to do?’ After asking again the second night, we were relunctantly given a portable air conditioner for our third and final night. The shared bathroom was used by at least 6 rooms and was not cleaned enough considering how many people were using it. We had to ask for fresh towels in our room and the ones given weren’t clean. I think there are many other hotels in Firenze that would provide a better stay for the price.

I didn’t realize this hotel did not have air conditioning so I was sweaty for my entire stay and I also didn’t notice that in their description, they clearly mentioned no lift so I had to drag several pieces of luggage up four flights of stairs. The hotel says Bed and Breakfast no breakfast service. Also, was nice but the shared bathrooms got gross fast. It was a lot of hair everywhere. I don’t know I’d stay again. Should be called a hostel not a hotel.

Also, lots of stairs which I wished was stated somewhere so it wasn’t so hard to get to with all the bags. Better for backpackers.

(One was really nice) what's worst was .. when we got back from our evening outing, main door (it's supposed to be automatic by using the key) did not work at all. We were stuck outside for a while. We tried to call them by phone. No answer. We were afraid we'd have to go get another hotel for the night. Luckily other people who are staying different level/hotel - were able to open the main door for us. No apologies not sympathy from the staff even when we told the problem. We'll never stay here again.

Thousandish old building with high ceiling gives you special experience. There are no air conditioner and freeze but if you are ready to enjoy it, take this hotel. My wife and me enjoyed this hotel but my sons didn’t feel comfortable.

We booked this property, a room with a shared bathroom, with a sense of false economy. There was nothing wrong with checking in or out, and the staff member that checked us in provided good information about places to see.

One, the shared bathroom was not a good idea on our part as there was one for that level. It did get to be a challenge to use it when necessary. The shower, too, was about 10 inches above the floor, which made it somewhat treachorous to get in and out of. Two, the buffet was generally disappointing. Going to a bar for espresso and patries was worth the 2-3 euros over eating there. Finally, three, a great deal of southern Europe was in the midst of a heat wave. The room, being on the second level of the hotel never truly cooled down with or without windows opened or closed and the use of the fan. In truth, the hallway was cooler as was the bathroom that faced the street and the common area on that level. We had to cover ourselves at night with wet towels and direct the fan over them in order to be cool enough to sleep. It was cooler outside in the morning than in the room. This was so unpleasant that we booked another hotel after the second night of our stay, which was scheduled to be 7 nights. We are fortunate that we could do so. Of course, we were not offered a refund.

A true adventure back in tome

Loved the rustic feel to the suite. It was right in the middle of Old Florence and I truly loved the “going back in time” feel. Hated the fact that there was no air conditioning but they did have a small fan. Italian heat in July is no joke!

The hotel is well located in the heart of Florance very close to all tourist sites. For a one or two night stay it’s ideal. It is very basic. It doesn’t have a lift/elevator, and needs a face lift. There is no TV in the room and traveling with children is a little stressful. Theron was clean and breakfast was fine. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

Not everything was disappointing

In a way you get what you pay for.
This feels almost like a hostel rather than anything else. We shared a couple of toilets on the same floor as the room only had a basin. Breakfast was as basic as it can get.
Florence is hot in Summer and the stairs to reach the hotel feel never ending, almost like climbing a mountain. The room had a fan, which wasn’t ideal given the temperature. The fittings in the room were very unfortunate as the building is beautiful and details as towel rails, etc are on the very cheap contemporary side... a pity they didn’t get something more adequate. The same applies to the toilets... awkward in a word.
My room was always serviced very late which was inconvenient.
Would I stay again? Yes, in spite of everything. The location is ideal and in September I guess it wouldn’t be too bad in terms of their current suffocating temperatures.

The good, the bad, and the final word

I think the pros and cons list will work here.
Pros:
Excellent location. Very easy/short walks to everything Florence has to offer.
Beautiful hotel..... Loved the old building and the cute furniture
People.... The employees were very nice and very helpful
Room... I had a very large room with it's own bathroom. Views of the cathedral from a couple of the windows.

Cons:
Stairs.... Too many stairs to climb especially after walking around Florence all day.
No AC.... It was very hot and humid in Florence and there was no AC. We had an oscillating fan in the room but it was loud and the room was too large for it to help anyway. If we tried opening the windows for air we would get attacked by mosquitoes.
Shower..... The water was either super hot or super cold, even if we didn't move the nozzle.... The water temp would change. I mean burning hot and freezing cold. So strange....

Overall: Even though it was hard to shower and hard to sleep I would still recommend staying here. The location, hotel charm, and the employees make it a nice hotel.

Its not a hotel, its a Bed and Breakfast. Property was difficult to find. The manager was very nice and helped me with the luggage otherwise I would not have been able to get my bags to the third floor. No air conditioning and only one standing fan. Bathroom was new and nice. Breakfast was very basic - no hot breakfast.

Not a good experience at all. The check-in employee was not in a good mood and you can tell. The hotel does not have an elevator which makes it extremely difficult to carry your luggages 3 floors up! I was flying with my wife and two year old son (and stroller). We had a quadruple room with a small shower inside and no bathroom which we knew in advance. There’s no AC and they only give a small fan which is not enough. The location is central which was the only plus about the stay.

800 year old Hotel in the center of Florence

If you like modern surroundings and amenities this is not the Hotel for you. You need to bear in mind the age of the hotel and as such not all rooms have en suite (if any?) and there are no televisions (not in ours anyway). However, presumably you would, like us, be visiting Florence to explore the beautiful city and not sit in a Hotel room, as such no TV was necessary and we managed with the shared bathroom. There is however a sink in the bedroom for teeth brushing etc.
The Hotelier was very friendly and provided us with a map with the main points of interest as well as kindly leaving a bottle of wine in the room to help us celebrate our anniversary. They also provided a lovely buffet continental breakfast with plenty to choose from and plenty of tea bags/coffee on offer.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay here and the character of the building it's in and the rooms. We slept well however there were inconsiderate guests who felt at 6am it was appropriate to talk loudly outside the bedroom! This happened on both mornings of our stay however this was totally outside of the Hotelier's control. Whether a sign could be put up to ask guests to be considerate of others outside the times of 8am-10pm perhaps?

Like a ghost house

I refused to sleep because its too creepy. Staff was not too accommodating and I feel like they ate living in their office which the attendant used jean pants was on the sofa. It felts so dirty.

The hotel location is amazing; walkable from the train station (about 15 minutes), the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, and many piazzas. The staff is friendly and the hotel is what you paid for: a simple room with a shared bathroom down the hall. The breakfast is a really nice touch. There isn't a sign for the hotel on the street, so pay attention to building numbers!

Amazing place

Entrance to this fantastic place is through a courtyard and some stairs which really makes you feel part of the city.
Location is as central as it gets but is still very quiet. Our room (20) was massive, had an ensuite and with a view of the Cathedral. Stunning.
Fan provided which was perfect. Shower lovely and breakfast very good. Staff friendly. No faults but we found beds a touch hard for us.

Location and charm, but noisy & 79 steps up!!

600 year old building, charming room with a 15 foot high ceiling. Room had shower and sink, but bathroom was across the large common seating area. Room was noisy from the late night revelers 5 stories below. Good continental breakfast. Great location 4 blocks from Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi, etc. About 8 blocks to the train station (we took a cab arriving, walked departing. And oh yes - 79 steps up to our room - be in shape and travel light!

A glimpse of life in Florence

I had only two days in Florence and I wanted to optimize my stay by booking a place that was close to everything and could allow me a glance into the local life. I needed a single room with single bed. Hotel Bavaria offered the perfect deal - it is located on one of the floors of a period residential building and staying there felt like staying at someone's home. It gave me a glimpse of the inside atmosphere of local life in typical buildings that would otherwise remain facades hiding mysteries. The room was perfect - bright and cozy. The bathroom was shared but adjacent to the room so, I didn't feel inconvenienced. The only shortcoming was the breakfast - it was extremely basic and cheap, focusing on spreads and crackers that are usually free in North American diners. I mostly ate yogurt and cereal but cereal is not a thing I would usually consider, unless hunger looms. Although I suspected the breakfast might be substandard, I could not book the room without the breakfast (there was no such option). However, there are so many nice little cafes and places to eat well and affordably around that this is not a big minus. All in all, I had a great time in this hotel and it was everything I had hoped it would be.

The room had two doubles pushed togethee to which i fell through in the middle of the night. No AC so we had the window open and mosquitos came in to feast on us. Breakfast had the typical options like everywhere and was decent. Shared bathrooms were ok but annoying when people pull on the handle until you tell them its occupied.

Best location in Florence

Bavaria is only a few minutes away from the main attractions, 2 minutes walk to the Duomo, 5-6 minutes walk to the Palazzo Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery. The breakfast is plenty and good, the staff is always very helpful, they even printed out my boarding pass. The rooms are smaller and there are 2 shared bathrooms for everyone, but you are only there to sleep, so much to see in Florence, you shouldn't be spending your precious time in the hotel. Across from the hotel there is a small sandwich shop they make the best panini, and the Milkeria has delicious crepes and ice cream.
I suggest to buy your tickets in advance for the main attractions, it will save you a lot of time, because you will bypass the line ups. Friendly advice, don't plan to climb the Dome of the Duomo and Giotto's Bell Tower on the same day..

Great location, noisy neighbours

Comfortable stay in a great location. Could easily walk to every sight in Florence. Nice entrance, music and decor. Room didn't have a great view - courtyard being renovated and could hear our noisy neighbour. Common room not signposted, so hard to find. Wifi only in corridor entrance area unfortunately. 'Upgraded' to room with shower but would have preferred a room with better decor/view instead as didn't mind sharing bathroom. Friendly staff with helpful advice and could answer all our questions.
