Location

Location, location, location. Literally steps from the Duomo. We had a queen bed and a twin. The queen was up in a loft and wasn’t very comfortable. The staff was very nice and very helpful. Breakfast in the mornings was basically continental but served its purpose. Easy check in and out.

Great location. Close to train station and steps from cathedral and Bell’s tower.
The clerks were friendly. Missed the convenience of being able to make coffee/ tea in the room. Coffee was not available for purchase either! No iron available.

The hotel is in a fabulous location. Right in the heart of everything. Its off a small side street so it quiet too.
Very comfortable beds and verybclean.
Its old. Its not a boutique hotel. Its great value. In a great location with great staff.

The hotel is located about 15 minutes walking distance from the train station, which is the main port of coming and leaving Florence. It was not too bad for us to walk over in a wet day with drizzles. I had to use my phone to navigate my way to find the hotel. It is located on a very hidden street - hard to find without GPS guidance.
The hotel is very small and quite old. My room is very small, that could be because I booked the cheapest type of room. Staff was very pleasant, beds were so so, breakfast not impressive. I may choose a different one next time. But overall, I did not have bad experience with this vendor.

Cons: wifi was very weak, there was no safe box in our room as it was being replaced, hard to sleep at night because of outside noise as the hotel is in busy area, sometimes there was no hot water in bathroom.

The room was clean and the reception and breakfast staff were good! However, the rooms are not soundproofed,and they do not have laundry facilities as advertised. We were kept awake by the man snoring in the next room all night. You can also hear the street noise very well. While the view of the Duomo was great, the noise was too much. The hotel also does not have decent wifi, so connectivity was an issue for our stay. We had to go to the lobby and connect through our phone's service, which was also very limited in the room.

The property has the most AMAZING location. The stairs to checked into the room are difficult. But we were checked into a lovely room with a sensational view of the Duomo and Piazza just outside our window. The breakfast could be better, it’s more of a morning snack, but the staff’s courtesy more than makes up for it! The location is walkable to everywhere. We would just take a stroll and be at a tourist attraction before we knew it. I would definitely stay there again!

The hotel was right next to Duomo so location was on point. The hotel has small elevator (typical in Europe) as reception and rooms in 3rd floor. The service both the front desk and the breakfast buffet were very helpful. Typical Italian breakfast and it was good.

Best location! Bring a set a headphones to sleep with if you come during a holiday. But our room faced the Duomo square so it is completely acceptable. Kids and I had a blast! Extremely nice staff and good breakfast.

The hotel was in a very convenient spot, just outside the Duomo but being a busy section of Florence, it was also quite noisy at times.
Our room was clean and maintained and we had a large bathroom that looked to be renovated in the last few years. There was a step down from the bedroom to the bathroom and that was a little dangerous if you had mobility issues or needed the bathroom at night.
The staff was friendly and receptive and looked after whatever needs we had.

Amazing location, steps away from the Cathedral! We were able to walk to all major locations withing minutes. The room was large and accommodating. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only negative is that we were having issues with the air conditioning but the staff were as helpful as they could be.

Getting a car to this hotel is nearly impossible. You have one way streets, ped zones, roads completly closed due to construction. Hotel is next to doumo that is why, great location for traveling by train. Ticket for ped zone is in 100s of euros. Rooms have modern bathrooms but rooms are quite beat up.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The only thing it has going for it is the location. You cannot beat it - you can literally see the duomo from your window and there are a ton of shopping and eating options around. The property itself though leaves MUCH to be desired. The banister on the staircase is lose, be careful hanging onto it. The elevator is extremely small and very uncomfortable to get in and out of as there is a pretty big step just outside of it. The property is not quaint/charming, it's simply old and not very clean. The furniture in the room is dated and very cumbersome - serves no purpose at all. The hangers are all mismatched and some were broken (how much can this possibly cost to replace???). You literally have to turn your room key to the front desk every time you leave the property. They do however keep your ac on while you're away. We literally moved our beds so they could face the ac. Beds/pillows were comfortable. Shower floor is slippery. Breakfast is decent - no ice though. The girl who helped us checking out was a bit rude. We asked to leave the luggage to pick up later - she said sure \"follow me\" - we thought she was leading us to a safe room - nope...literally five steps away to the hallway. We asked if bags were safe there - her response: \"you can take them with you if you prefer\". Will never stay there again no matter how great the location is. Options abound in the area. Shop around.

Location is very good, super convenient to a lot of places as stated in the hotel details. Staff was very nice.

There were a few things we didn’t like:

1) the elevator is really small and it was a bit tricky for us to squeeze in one big and one small luggage and 2 people. There are a few steps to get to the elevator, so if you have a big luggage like we did, the whole getting luggage in and out can be very frustrating.

2) I would not say the A/C didn’t work but it was apparently not effective. It was still quite warm at night and we didn’t even need a sheet for sleep. It was at the border line of uncomfortably hot.

3) since it is at an excellent location you can hear the church bell ring, which was not a big problem for us.

4) Bathroom shower was ok but compared to other hotels we had stayed in Italy the water pressure was not strong.

Great location and lovely Italian charm. Try to get a room facing the street so you can see the Duomo. So close you can almost touch it.
Only con was that there was not a mini fridge in the room. It would have been nice to pack it with cold water, especially in the summer heat.
And the wifi signal was weak so be sure to get a data plan.
Staff was very friendly and the bed was very comfortable.
I would definitely stay there again.

The hotel is right on the side of the mighty Duomo. If you are lucky you can see it from your window. You can see it from the lobby, perfect picture. The staff is extremely helpful and nice. Breakfast is basic but served by a lovely lady, with passion and care.

Hotel Bigallo was right next to the Duomo. It was easy to walk to almost all of the attractions of Florence. We stayed in one of their smaller rooms. We had everything we needed. Although breakfast is provided it was very simple. I wish I hadn't forgotten my cheese in the refrigerator.

You cannot beat location, and the views that come with it. Views over the Duomo from my room were breathtaking. My room was beautiful, on two levels, maybe not ideal post marathon, but ok. Breakfast rather basic, but sufficient. Staff was kind and helpful.

An easy 15min walk from main train station.
Remember to ask about duomo view when booking otherwise you’ll get the back streets. Room wasn’t noisy even though the duomo is right in front. Will come back and stay here.

The hotel location is in prime location, the room is in decent size.
The breakfast selection was okay.

The bedding in the room looks old and dirty; the key is an unique key to operate the room lighting and they only provide one for each room, so it makes it inconvenient to go in and out of the room if your partner is in the room. And you need to give the key to front desk every time you leave the hotel.

You look out your window at the duomo. Beautiful, convenient and rooms were unique.
If you need the bathroom close during the night ask for that. Ours was downstairs from the bedroom but our friends had theirs on the bedroom level.

Agree with previous review – the best part about this hotel is the location. We were first given the room on the same floor as reception which was awful, ugly dated room with window open to dirty construction. Also had a very bad stench to it. After speaking to the person at the front desk, we were (thankfully) given a room on a higher floor, not with the view of Duomo. This room was 100x better, no stench, cleaner and nicer looking. Bathroom was very spacious and modern. Breakfast hours are too short in my opinion (7:30-9:30); we also stayed at 2 other hotels within Italy & breakfast hours were 3.5 hours long. Nothing bad to stay about our personal stay here except one of the front desk attendants (younger guy) was rude. The girl at the front was very nice.

Perfect location for short visits to Florence

We stayed one night at Hotel Bigallo and it was perfect due to its location. For spending a short amount of time in Florence, nothing beats being situated right next to the Duomo. Our room looked out at the Duomo. It was great. The service, particularly Francesca, was incredibly helpful in offering restaurant recommendations and answering all of our questions. The only down side is that due to being so centrally located, the streets and area around the hotel are quite loud. But that is to be expected when you are downtown, I guess.

If you can get past the entrance....

The entrance to the hotel is down a side street the lobby is on the 3rd floor which is accessible via a tiny lift, you aren’t sure if you are in the right place until you are in the lift and there is a sticker saying press here for hotel. If arriving after dark this would be off putting . Once in the lobby the hotel is pleasant enough, clean room, the bed was very hard and the bathroom for room 1306 you had to step down into so we had to leave the light on all night for fear that we would fall into the bathroom in the dark. The air conditioner was noisy but essential in 30 degrees, breakfast was continental and good value as it was a self service buffet. The location was fantastic, set outside walk 10 paces to your left look left and there is the Basilica!

Since it is situated opposite the domo then it is very accessible to the main attractions of florence. 10 minutes walk t the train station. The staff is very helpful but i was a bit disappointed with the breakfast

Hotel Bigallo is a beautiful hotel tucked down a side street right in the city center. You could not have found a more convenient location for walking to all of the points of interest in Florence. For being in the city center, it was amazingly quiet. We also appreciated very nicely appointed rooms, the in room air conditioning, helpful staff and a hearty breakfast with many food choices.

Great boutique hotel with best location!

Amazing location with an unforgettable view! The room had interesting antique furniture, although they could have used with a light dusting. You had to leave your room key at reception Everytime you left and retrieve it on arrival, which was a bit of a nuisance considering we had to find the attendant a couple times, but they were very nice. Beds were pretty standard, little hard.

We were very pleased with our 2 day stay at Hotel Bigallo. The location was wonderful, centrally located by the Duomo, high end shopping, restaurants. Staff was very helpful, making recommendations. Concierge made dinner reservations for us at Ai Mercanti, a very good restaurant. We would definitely stay there again.

This little hotel was an excellent location for access to all of Florence’s attractions and hearing the bells of the Duomo. The staff was very helpful in setting up excursions and taxis. The bed was firm and comfortable and the room had historical charm but all moder conveniences. The breakfast was perfect for starting your day but lacked variety. We would not hesitate to stay there again.

Very good location!

This hotel is conveniently placed literally on top of the Duomo and a lot of the other close tourist sites! We had no trouble getting around as it was all close to where we were based.
Staff were friendly and looked after our cases when we arrived which was nice.
Breakfast was basic. It was included in our price of the room, but when we asked if when breakfast opened at half 7, if we could grab a crossiant and go as we had a train to catch, the response was “the bosses won’t like that, so no” so we didn’t. So didn’t really get what we paid for on our second breakfast. Which is a shame because that’s the only thing that let it down.

Fantastic location, just needs some TLC

This hotel is literally steps away from the Duomo and baptistery so you can not fault it for location. The staff were friendly enough, we only stayed for one night so when I found out our room didn’t have the views of the lovely Duomo I was disappointed but with us only staying the one night it didn’t bother me as much as it would had we been there a few, our room looked out onto a rooftop of some sort behind the hotel. The hotel is clean and although not modern it feels nice as it is in fitting with its surroundings. However I do think they need to spend a little money on it to repair things such as lampshades in the room which were stained and had tears in, as did the net curtain on the window which you can clearly see has been caught on the window shutters numerous times but still it’s there for everyone to see that there are quite a number of tears in it. The bathroom was ok but the shower cubicle was tiny, and the top quarter of it wasn’t tiled it was just a painted ceiling which had started to mould with the damp of the shower. But even so these things don’t take away from the hotel as it really is in such a good spot, but it’s little things like that you remember and they do need looking into eventually. Overall we enjoyed our one night stay but would’ve been slightly disaappointed had we been there for more than one night.

Hotel Bigallo was a great hotel. We had a great view from our room of the Duomo. The room was nice and the breakfast was good. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our only small negative was getting accurate information on buying tickets for different sites, and times since it turned out to be a country holiday.We would definately stay there again.

The hotel is comfortable and affordable for the location. The view cannot be beat. Our window had an unobstructed view of the duomo and main square. Amazing. Room with a view

Great position opened our blinds and we were about 25metres away from Duomo bell tower. Staff quite helpful lift made it easy with luggage. Only had a problem one night as our room right on lounge area and a group stayed up laughing and talking loud till 1.00am which was great as we'd be touring all day but other nights was great benefit to not have to climb any more stairs. Overall would def recommend

Great experience at Hotel Bigallo!

The only inconvenient thing was taking luggage up one flight. Elevator goes up three and I was on four. However, Staff was nice, location is unbelievably good, and air conditioning worked well. Very very pleased with stay.

No elevators, only for luggages, and every time you have to go up to your room. It was 4 story and breakfast start 7.30 am and most hotels 7.am and you need to go out and get buses on times. The price you paid is average for 4 stars so this hotel is not qualifying for that....I m not even thinking to go back again.

Such a great hotel, excellent location, opened our window to see the Duomo right in front of us. Could easily walk everywhere from here. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were quite comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

Perfect location

The hotel is located right across from the Duomo and five minutes from the Uffizzi Gallery. The breakfast leaves a lot to be desired-not much choice in comparison to other places we stayed.very friendly staff.

Brilliant location

Hotel Bigalo has a fabulous location overlooking the Duomo. It's a comfortable, traditional Italian hotel with very friendly, helpful staff.

Awesome location and room includes a decent breakfast. Hotel staff were extremely helpful. No wifi and rooms are tight and could use some updating. Enjoyed for a short stay!

Great view deadly bathroom!

They really need to update their safety standards! Stairs were treacherous and we were never told their was an elevator option nearby. We also had a bathtub that was about 3 feet deep and slippery. I had to help my husband out of it and he's not even a senior. I dreaded getting out of it myself. Very scary! Breakfast not so good and the room never cooled down even though they said there was air conditioning! Got sick from the heat in the room. Can't open the Windows in September due to mosquitoes. Being positive the view of the Duomo is amazing. Waking up with church bells is beautiful! Don't recommend for comfort.

We needed a room for 1 night. It was a little hard to find but worked out well. It was a great location. Overlooking the Cathedral of Santa Maria and great shopping and restaurants close by. It had a parking garage associated with the hotel which was a bonus since we were driving. Front desk personnel were very helpful and spoke good English.

excellent location...right behind the Duomo. Lift only went till 4th floor & was tiny which spoiled the fun. price & location makes up for the inconvenience though

Cosy hotel right in Piazza Duomo!

This hotel is in the perfect location for exploring Florence - we could see the Duomo right outside our window! Staff were friendly and always available. The room was old fashioned but clean. Breakfast was served in the dining room right outside our room and there was a good choice of toast, croissants, yoghurt, cakes, fruit, juices etc. The coffee though is self serve from a machine and not the best. Better idea to go to a nearby bar. Be careful with the lift we got stuck! Overall we had a pleasant stay at Hotel Bigallo and would recommend.

Miserable experience with our stay at Bigallo.

Honestly, it was awful. The air conditioning was terrible, we reported it several times and nothing was done to fix it. The room was incredibly hot which made it miserable for sleeping. We kept our bathroom door closed to help with cooling off our sleeping area. Our friends air conditioning was wonderful and they had no issues with sleeping at night. Also, the refrigerator didn't work and again we reported it, but nothing was done. When I checked out and looked at my invoice I discovered that they charged me an additional 20 euros because they said I had reserved my room under Expedia, which I had not. I could not recommend that hotel at all based on our experience with them.
