Excellent location, a 10 minute drive from the market square in Bruges city centre.

A large carpark outside the hotel which was convenient, great selection at breakfast & dog-friendly rooms!

Lovely grounds at the rear of the building to walk our dog when he needed to go.

We stayed at Hotel Lodewijk Van Male during our visit to Bruges for the Christmas markets, and it was a wonderful base for the trip. The hotel is set in a beautiful, peaceful location just outside the city centre, offering a welcome sense of calm after busy days exploring the markets and historic streets.

The building itself is full of character, with a warm and traditional feel throughout. Our room was comfortable, clean, and well presented, providing everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The grounds are particularly lovely and added to the charm of the experience, especially during the winter season.

The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Breakfast was a real highlight, with a generous selection of fresh and tasty options to set us up well for the day ahead.

Overall, this is a charming and comfortable hotel that offers a peaceful retreat while still being well connected to Bruges. We would happily stay again and would strongly recommend it to anyone visiting the city, particularly during the Christmas markets.

Not what we were expecting, very dated, room in desperate need of an upgrade the amount of spillages on the 30+ year old carpet was disgusting. The room was a non smoking room which stunk of smoke. We didnt even stay for the Breakfast that we paid for. We were told No breakfast till 8am. It also had the most unsecure doors ive ever seen and the bathroom door didnt shut .cant believe the great scores advertised.

We had a great overnight stop here. The hotel is located a short drive into the centre. We were disappointed not to be able to have lunch or evening meal at the hotel, particularly as food was being prepared for a small private party. After a very long drive, a light snack and a chance to rest would have been very welcome. There are no restaurants close by so we were directed to the centre of Brugge for food. My advice would be to make sure you do not arrive at the hotel tired and hungry! Other than that. This was a very pleasant stay.

Unfortunately, they had an event in their ballroom, I was told 150 people. Hence it was very noisy, and it would have been better if we had been told before so we could get ear defenders!
It was too late to ask for a different room. Our room overlooked the road at the front of the hotel. It is in a good location for a meeting I attend twice a year, and I will try for a better room next time.

Beautiful hotel in a lovely location on the outskirts of Bruges. Easy parking available. Rooms spacious with excellent shower. Lovely rear views over the garden. Great breakfast choices in a splendid restaurant. Staff friendly and welcoming. One minor gripe - no tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom. Will definitely stay again when next in Bruges.

It was a really nice experience for the price. The grounds are beautiful and there is a lovely pond in the back. The rooms were a bit run down but the beds were fine. The bathrooms were also surprisingly clean. Breakfast was simple but tasty, especially considering it was included.

Lovely building, grounds, and breakfast

We needed a one night stay in Bruges and this hotel just outside the city worked perfectly for us. You will need a bike, car, or taxi to get into the city. It is too far to walk.
There’s no one working the check in desk, but when you ring the bell, someone comes within a couple of minutes. Check-in and check-out went smoothly with no issues.
The grounds in the back are spectacular and there is a nice walking path around the pond. It is such a beautiful setting. The room we stayed in faced the gardens in the back and away from the street. Toilet & shower room were your typical smallish European style. Soap & shampoo were provided.
Our booking included breakfast which was very impressive. We sat at our own cloth covered table. The food and beverage buffet was top notch. It included eggs, bacon, multiple cheeses & bread, cereal, yogurt, coffee, tea, and orange juice. Also fresh croissants and pain chocolate.
We will definitely stay here again the next time we find ourselves in Bruges and would recommend it to others.
Overall a very nice stay.

A badly managed hotel

We booked a room facing the lake ( rather than a busy road). On arrival we were placed in a noisy room overlooking the road. Only on our direct complaint was a room overlooking the garden/lake forthcoming.
On our arrival a full dress wedding was getting under way. Despite having advised the hotel that we would want dinner, we were told that the dining room would not be available to us and we would have to find a restaurant outside the hotel. No effort was made to suggest a suitable restaurant in the area, still less to make a booking for us (which on a Friday evening turned out to be vital). We were therefore left to walk up and down until we found a restaurant able to take us.

Kept awake until 4:20am by noisy wedding guests. No staff contactable. Every time we finally went to open our door (or window when the noise was from outdoors) and call out, the noise stopped for a while then restarted as we were going to sleep. When we complained the next morning the Proprietor said that if we had wanted staff available we should have stayed in a 4*, didn't accept they totally failed to manage the guests.
Also weren't able to eat at hotel the night before as restaurant was full with large booking (claimed to be other guests when we also raised this the next morning). In this case it would have been helpful if we had been told of restaurant unavailability when we booked in, not only when we asked about a table in the restaurant. Referred to another restaurant 15 minutes walk away.

We picked this so we could have a lovely dinner there but found the restaurant closed for dinner for two or three nights each week. Otherwise the grounds are lovely, breakfast and service were excellent and room ok.

Booked a family room, expecting 4 single beds and ended up with a double and a flimsy looking bunk-bed. There we no tea/coffee making facilities or fridge.
There were no child locks on the windows so we were not able to open them when it got very warm and muggy in the evening.
Noise from other guests was absolutely appalling/disgusting and carried through the walls and partitions easily as if there was no soundproofing whatsoever.
Breakfast was ok, apart from the milk left out for the cereal which smelt and tasted off.
Very disappointing experience as the photos looked lovely.

It was a great hotel for our needs. I stayed overnight with a couple of friends for a short weekend break ahead of Xmas - the room was clean and decent. The beds really comfortable. We all slept very well. Breakfast was adequate - although no cooked food (unless you did your own egg or toasted the bread) was varied and delicious and catered for all tastes - plenty to choose from. The only slight concern was the staff during the day and in the evening didn't seem to be able to cope with additional orders. My friend asked for a sandwich about 3pm and they couldn't do it. I asked for a liqueur coffee on Saturday night and they said because of a function going on, they said they didn't have the time to do it. It may be worth employing an extra person to deal with such requests because I can't imagine we would be the only people who have asked for these things over the years?

Christmas market trip

We had a 2 night stay at this Hotel. Beautiful original featured hotel. Pleasant staff. Clean. My only gripe would be that we were unable to open the window as we had a veranda type area whereby we coudlnt open the interior door to get to window which made the room very stuffy and as I need fresh air due to my rhinitis unfortunately I spent the weekend with a very runny sneezing nose.

Castle around Brugge

Great place to stay to enjoy the beautiful grounds. Old building but rooms were nice. A little far out of town to enjoy Brugge and they were very busy with several functions going on so not sure if we would have been able to eat at the restaurant if we had wanted to. Stayed Saturday night and Sunday breakfast starts at 8 so was not able to enjoy the breakfast either.

Noisy dirty rooms. My daughter got lice and the bathrooms had hair on the sink and walls from other people. They didn't clean it well and for the lice they must not have changed the sheets and cleaned the pillows after the previous guests. Disgusting! It ruined our vacation! Will never stay there again!

Overall we had a very good experience staying in this hotel. Brekfast was basic but tasty. There are very nice gardens at the back of hotel. Our room was facing a busy street, so it was quite noisy when windows were open. TV could have had some UK channels (at least BBC One).

Amazing rear view, not enough to save overall stay

The hotel is situated on a main road, and is a job to find from the front view. Parking is available and was free. Rear view and garden is stunning. And entering the hotel is nice, large open space and vintage feel.
The room we had was nice, not to big. But uncomfortable during the night, no air con made it very hot in summer when we stayed. Continental breakfast was also included.
Buses and taxis available to get to Bruges. As it is a few miles away.
Okay for a one night stay, might get tedious after more.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel - we had a quadruple room (2 x doubles) with a huge balcony. Beautiful gardens, lovely breakfast room and very good breakfast. Friendly staff. The hotel is a little dated, but that reflects on the price and the old building. Only a 5 minute drive from the centre of Bruges. One bonus would have been tea/coffee making facilities in the room, after a long day of sightseeing!

Beautiful property in a quiet neighborhood. The room was a bit small and dated, but the hotel is nice. Good breakfast with several choices. Dinner can be a problem as it isn't available every day. however, they have some referrals for you. I would suggest a car or at least a bike is necessary to enjoy the area and get into town.

Perfect place

Booked our room a bit out of the blue as it was the beginning of a road trip through Germany and we were meeting family in Koblenz. We originally thought we'd get a cab into town for the evening, but decided to stay put. The food in the hotel was superb and afterwards we stumbled upon a local wine festival in the village. A truly memorable night. And the breakfast the next morning was amazing! Try to get the rooms out the front as they have a balcony that overlooks the Mosel and the grape vines beyond. Perfect start to the week.

Nous avons réserver un séjour de 2 nuitées dans cet établissement , nous devions avoir une chambre lit double avec vue partielle sur le lac mais quand nous sommes arrivés notre clef était posé sur la table et avons eu la mauvaise surprise d’avoir une chambre vu parking avec 2 lits simple . Le problème a été réglé le lendemain avec le responsable en ayant une chambre beaucoup plus spacieuse vu complète sur le lac et un lit double … Concernant le petit déjeuner , une remarque que nous avions déjà évoqué lors de notre dernier séjour , AMÉLIOREZ VOTRE SERVICE , un assortiment limiter sans grand intérêt … jus de fruit bas de gamme avec des glaçons , confiture en barquette .Ceci est bien dommage, avec une belle cuisine à l’arrière, des crêpes , gâteaux fait maison , gaufres , confitures maison serait facile, rapide et parfaite pour un compléter un bon petit déjeuner.

Romantisch en prima.

Was prima; het is een soort kasteel, dus de vloeren kraken, maar dat is ook medebepalend voor de sfeer. Wat m.i. beter kan is het schoonmaken van de vloerbedekking; die is gewoon niet schoon. Het personeel (kamermeisje, bediening restaurant en terras) is geweldig vriendelijk en behulpzaam en verdienen een dikke pluim. Meer personeel is nodig om het schoner te maken en te houden, het kamermeisje werkt zich in haar eentje een slag in de ronde.

Otel güzeldi , küçük bir saray gibi , otelin tek balkonlu odası bize denk geldi , balkonun manzarası herşeye değer mutlaka görmelisiniz. O yüzden 20 numaralı oda otelin en güzel odası. Eski bir otel , eşyalar antik. Temizliği fena değil ama yazın gitmenizi tavsiye etmiyorum klima olmadığından bunalabirsiniz...
