The extra touches… fruit basket when I arrived, daily treats delivered to room before supper, incredible food, especially fish dish with banana. The ocean saltwater pools, sun deck with service next to heated pool … staff very kind and friendly, they treated me like a king.
The view and rhythmic gentle crashing of wave on the cliff below. The sunrise and sunset here is … calming to soul.
Very clean and kept resort. Flowers and grass. Close to airport and town is just a short walk

Wir haben ein Zimmer mit Balkon und nicht Veranda gebucht. Leider haben wir trotz Nachfrage nur im Erdgeschoss ein Zimmer erhalten.
Ansonsten war es gut. Frühstücksbuffet war sehr gut. Beim Abendessen war der Service sehr gut, dass essen war jedoch nicht top. Hatte nach dem Fischgericht Bauchschmerzen.

I had the most incredible experience at The Albatroz. The location alone is spectacular — perched right on the ocean with views that honestly feel unreal. The pool overlooking the water is just gorgeous; it became one of my favourite places to unwind and soak in the scenery.

What really set this place apart, though, was the staff. Every single person I interacted with was warm, friendly, and genuinely accommodating in a way that felt completely authentic. It never felt forced — just true hospitality.

The food was another highlight. Every meal was delicious, beautifully prepared, and full of fresh flavours. It was a treat every time we sat down to eat.

I truly can’t recommend The Albatroz highly enough. If you’re considering it, go — you’ll be so glad you did.

We had the most wonderful stay. Every member of the team here is truly exceptional at what they do — we were blown away by the warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail. With only 20 rooms, the hotel offers a much more personal and intimate experience, which made our stay feel even more special.

The amenities are fantastic — we especially loved the natural pool and the tennis courts. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team, including the housekeeping staff, for maintaining such a beautiful and welcoming environment. We truly hope to return one day!

Best hotel ever!!!

This is an amazing hotel. I would give it 12 out of 10 stars. If I could, the staff was beyond amazing they knew about my allergy before I even opened my mouth to say anything. Our servers were excellent. The food was excellent. The breakfast was excellent. The surrounding area is lovely and won’t get airport noise, even though you are a two minute drive from the airport. There is a heated pool and a lovely bar by the pool. The only thing that we have to say that was negative is we wish we could’ve stayed way longer.😃

The staff went above and beyond to help us. We arrived at 1am and they made sandwiches fruit and yogurt and brought them to our room because we mentioned we were hungry. That was one of a dozen little things the did for us.

Very friendly, well run family owned hotel. Spacious rooms and wonderful pools. Don’t be put off by the fact it is under the airport. The noise does not seem to reach the hotel. Short walk into the nearest town which is mainly along the promenade after a short walk next to a motorway. We did this on average once a day.

This was a gem of a find. The facilities are slightly dated but the upkeep and condition is excellent. All of the staff that we encountered were superb. We felt that the selection that we had at the restaurant were very good and a good value. We'd recommend this hotel to our family and friends -- we would like to do a return visit ourselves!

Wonderful staff who can't do enough for their guests. The seawater pool is the main attraction (though the actual sea is about 1°C warmer for some reason). The food is excellent especially the scallops linguine. Very quiet despite being next door to the airport. Would stay again.

It was a one day solo trip because the hotel was near the airport and offered a free shuttle when I got there. I was totally surprised by the service from the front desk. The wait staff and everybody there with a pleasant surprise Fabrício and Bernardo are especially helpful to me along with, Anna and Sarah what a wonderful stay there made

Our third stay at this superb hotel and we were welcomed back by many of the staff who were there on previous occasions. The staff are brilliant, attentive without being obtrusive. The food is excellent and the rooms very comfortable. Excellent facilities for what is quite a small hotel, which is why we like it so much and no doubt will be returning.

This is a small hotel but with all the amenities of a larger establishment. The rooms are well appointed and big and if you stay in the main building every room has a terrace/balcony with sea view.
The food is excellent and reasonably priced for a hotel of this standard.
Most importantly the staff are absolutely wonderful. I can not praise them highly enough.

It is near the airport but the planes are not actually a bother- the main problem is that you can hear the road behind you but it isnt loud and really didn’t bother us. Really enjoyed our stay.

So much more than a hotel near the airport

We just stayed one night on our way home from a week in Madeira because the Albatroz was so close to the airport - we really liked it and would have been happy to stay longer. The staff were incredibly welcoming in these difficult times and had taken every precaution to protect against the covid virus. We were welcomed with a bottle of sparkling wine and a bowl of fruit which was lovely. We enjoyed swimming in all of the pools - especially the salt water pool and in the sea. Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay near Santa Cruz. We did not find the the airport disturbing (though flights were much reduced) and it was very useful to be able to enjoy so much comfort so close to the airport and just before a really early flight.

Just amazing. Close to the airport yet all you can hear is sea breeze and waves.

Pickup from the terminal took about 5 minutes.

Staff are incredibly professional and friendly. English is excellent.

The rooms are large, bed is king size and super comfortable, everything is high quality.

It’s a 10 minute walk to Santa Cruz for great restaurants or a 30 minute walk to Machico for shopping. Breakfast and dinner at Hibiscus (the hotel’s restaurant will not disappoint.)

Wifi was good everywhere.

I would recommend the superior rooms but regardless of your room you’ll be looked after very well.

They are fastidious about covid safety and I congratulate them on creating a super safe environment.

After 3 days at Albatroz we are now in Funchal and wish we were back at Albatroz.

One of the best hotels I have stayed in. The reason are the amazing people who cared for us. A special mention for Carolina, Duarto, Mr. Coelho, Cedanyu, Fabricio and the person who made our omlettes (sorry can’t spell his name). We also availed of the spa services and the lady was really good. Got rid of quite a few of my shoulder knots.

It felt like we were living with family.

The hotel is set in a fabulous location overlooking the Atlantic. The rooms are bright airy and spacious. The decor is beautiful.

Breakfast was sumptuous and the service was thoughtful.

As we had to isolate on our first night, we had room service with the amazing Fabricio helping us to make our choices. The complimentary champagne they provided us was very good.

Carolina was helpful in providing information regarding the area and we benefitted from a lovely walk from the hotel to Santa Cruz village.

The pools were delightful and we spent a lovely time in this delightful hotel.

If you are looking for a personalised experience in a 5 star setting with great food, wine and facilities then this is the place for you.

It gives me great pleasure in recommending this quaint boutique hotel.

The hotel was empty (well it was February) so we had the run of the place. Staff were excellent, the facilities decent, and the pool area is the most instagramable thing you’ll see this year. Dinner wasn’t amazing, but who cares when you’re served with such grace and good humour

We recently spent 3 nights here. Stunning setting, friendly helpful staff, large comfortable rooms overlooking the ocean, fantastic breakfast and restaurant. 3 large pools. We ate at the restaurant twice, and have yet to find food as good elsewhere on Madeira. The Scabbard fish Madeira style or flambe were both outstanding. Breakfast included wonderful fresh fruit, eggs to order, assorted meats, cheeses, breads, and croissants. Meals can be eaten on a veranda overlooking the water. The hotel has its own exit off the highway, but it is only on one side, so it can be tricky to find the first time you arrive. Although close to the airport, it is very quiet.

This is an outstanding hotel. The staff were incredibly helpful and charming, both at the reception desk and in the restaurant, providing a very high standard of service. They really made one feel welcome and that it was very important to them that one enjoyed every aspect of one's stay. I liked very much that the restaurant plays soft piano music and does not have a TV, so you can really escape from modern life. The chef is obviously exceptional. The location is beautiful and the Atlantic pool in particular is a wonderful place to swim. The rooms are very well equipped with wonderful views.

Spotlessly clean and extremely well maintained rooms. Impressive attention to detail and very tasteful touches abound. No cutting corners here! All the 'little things' are clearly of a much higher quality than in other hotels claiming to be in the same category. They don't have to make the extra effort at the Albatroz, but they do, and it makes all the difference!

Lovely hotel and grounds conveniently close to the airport, but you'd never know it as it's very quiet. The restaurant is excellent, we didn't try the breakfast service, but the dinner service was wonderful (get the spaghetti and prawns, absolutely delicious). However, it's the staff that really make the place, everyone was unfailingly welcoming, pleasant, and informative, we really hated to leave!

Lovely quiet hotel. The staff were all excellent - friendly, helpful and interested to hear about our sightseeing without being intrusive. The restaurant was excellent in every way - I would encourage future visitors to stay in rather than go out for dinner! Final note if you are considering staying - whilst the hotel is near the airport, it was not noisy or intrusive.

Stayed four nights at this lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds over looking the Atlantic Ocean. Staff were fantastic. Complimentary collect/drop from the nearby airport. Had two terrific evening meals there and the breakfast buffet was outstanding (fresh pastel da nata's everyday!) Great cocktails too!

Beautiful views from a traditional cliffside hotel

Lovely traditional seaside hotel sitting just above the ocean with a natural sea pool on the cliffside below the hotel. The ambience inside the hotel is tranquil and the staff are exceptionally accommodating including in the hotel restaurant. The only less positive consideration is the location which is just across the Funchal airport next to a busy motorway so pedestrian paths around the hotel are limited (essentially walking along the motorway) to the closest town centre (Santa Cruz) and Funchal is a 20-minute bus (€5 on the AeroBus from the Funchal airport) or taxi (€30) ride away. Otherwise, it's good for couples and even those with children (although there are no organised child activities or camps).

A beautiful place that feels really comfortable and relaxing. The staff couldn't be more attentive and made us feel very welcome. They were very quick to sort any problems and very accommodating.

The noise from the planes landing in the nearby airport is minimal and don't affect the the resort. The flights are not too frequent and in fact it was quite interesting to watch the planes landing from the nearby road.

The rooms are spacious and clean. Breakfast is good and staff were quick to accommodate small dietary requirements.

The swimming pools are quiet and well-maintained.

It is a lovely place and we felt welcome. We highly recommend it.

Arrived for a short break and was very impressed with the hotel. Although close to the airport, we were not disturbed by the planes. Hotel was exceedingly clean, spotlessly so and the room was very comfortable. Nice touches including free toiletries, wifi, tea & coffee facilities, complimentary slippers and bathrobes, safe in the room and most of all the platter of fruit provided free by the hotel.

Dining was excellent, food superior and great value for money. The walk to Santa Cruz is about 15 mins on the coastal path. We did not try the pools as it was early in the season, but they were clean and tidy.

I chose this hotel because I wanted to easily get to the airport for an early flight after spending 3 weeks in Madeira. Service was impeccable, room was spacious with a beautiful sea view, the gardens were lovely. Breakfast (included) was bountiful with many delicious choices.

Perfect in Every Way From Moment We Were Picked Up

A Christmas gift for my Wife......a 3 night get away without the kids that we'll remember forever. Collected from the airport, treated like royalty for 4 days and then ferried back to departures, chilled and relaxed and certainly less stressed with life than when we arrived. Blissful.

Great service. We chose the location by the airport, but you could not hear any air traffic noise. The location by the water is lovely.

When relaxation is all you want

Could not have asked for anything better, having studied hotels in Funchal we couldn't find what we were looking for which was somewhere a little different from the norm, then we found Albatroz Beach & Yacht Club, having looked at reviews we booked a week, it was only after booking that I looked at the location on a map of Madeira & thought I'd made a mistake, next to the airport, we needn't have worried as apart from the odd lorry passing on the main road we could have been in the hills, at times the silence was deafening. On arrival we were met by Gonzales who insisted on carrying our bags to our room, he showed us everything we needed to know, Costa was there on other days who was always keen to answer questions and just chat with us about anything, Carol was great as were Francisco, Madalene & all other staff, nothing was too much trouble, ask and it was answered. The view was amazing & on day 2 we were treated to the most spectacular scene, a few hundred meters out to sea we saw whales & dolphins passing, the hotel is literally next to the sea. At times we were the only couple in the hotel grounds so it was almost like a private members club, we were in room 17 on the ground floor & every room has a sea view. The food was yummy, buffet breakfast a fantastic start to the day. Would we return? MOST DEFINITELY. Thank you all at the Albatroz Beach & Yacht Club.

A real discovery!

Wonderful hotel. Very helpful staff and management. Excellent breakfast. Our arrival was delayed because of aircraft problems and when we phoned the hotel to warn them,they offered to pick us up at the airport. This was very welcome. Would stay here again.

Couldn't be better

This is a fantastic hotel runny great, friendly staff. Breakfast and dinner were excellent and the rooms very comfortable. Although close to the airport, this was not a problem. Highly recommended.
