Beautiful hotel, just not my preference for solo

The hotel and grounds are beautiful, with a great spot on the coast line to wake up to every day. There are lots of facilities and things to do as well as gorgeous private beaches on which to relax. The hotel has been designed as an all inclusive hotel - not my personal preference - and as such meal options/ room service etc and beach service are all limited.

This is the most incredible hitel i have ever had the pleasure of staying at. Everything is first class, food, rooms, staff, surroundings, entertainment, drinks, watersports -free. Sunsets are the best. Literally, i would go back in a heartbeat. There is not one thing i would change. Book a sea facing room between room 400 -430. Perfect ground floor rooms, with a terrace and a perfect location and view of the sunset. Book it!

Severe food poisoning at Beachcomber

Beware of the sea food at this Beachcomber Resort. We arrived on Friday and went to dinner around the end of service - 8:50 pm. I woke up around 1 a.m. with food poisoning symptoms. The hotel was quick to get a doctor to the room. Upon evaluation, the doctor immediately called an ambulance and rushed me to the hospital at 2 a.m. with lights on. I’m a healthy 30-something but BP was already 144/89 due to the food poisoning. The medical care I received at the hospital was first class. My only disappointment lies in the management at the Beachcomber. I was passed around between managers until the communications director informed me there was nothing to be done because it would indicate liability. My only ask was to cover the $600 hospital bill for the food poisoning. He threatened to respond to a negative review - which I invite. Nevertheless - I would recommend Mauritius to anyone seeking a paradise. The Mauritian people are as genuinely kind and welcoming as their reputation suggests. Go - but I would stay away from this resort. I

Great place to relax. All property is in an excllet condition. All the staff is very nice. The restaurants are very good too especially the italian (Serenata).
The beaches are ok but you need shoes if you go to the sea. There are a lot of lounge chairs at the beach and around the pool. The wifi is very good at all the property.
it would be nice if there were more options to eat at the bar and the drinks were coolers.

The hotel it self offered so much I need two more days to explore it.
The manager Mr Makhan was very helpful and very nice. He took his time to explain everything. All staff were very polite and friendly. Beautiful property. Book your stay now at Cannonier Beach Comber

Good apart from noisy corridors

Really nice hotel, rooms are spacious and clean with a great choice of TV channels too.
I think must have been there during the Italian and South African holidays, which meant there were a lot of children there.
The staff, the food, drink and watersports are all top notch here
Wifi is also fast and available everywhere on the campus.

Our only negative was that the corridors feel like they have no sound proofing in them whatsoever as you can hear everyone coming in at 11pm when the bar and entertainment stops and again at 8am when everyone is up and heading to breakfast or the pool/beach.
We were lucky as were quite far from the reception and evening entertainment, as if we were closer we wouldn't have had much sleep

The other big shame was that we couldn't have dinner at the Navigator. We were told on arrival to try and book, and despite only being there 4 nights, we could not get a booking :-(

Beautiful grounds, excellent location but mediocre cuisine, plenty of food but monotonous and not all that well presented, the barbecue was a con, the food was all kitchen cooked, not even a flame grill yet alone charcoal. The standard room was low on storage for clothes, no facility for suitcases. The beach is not suitable for swimming for most tourists, shallow water, rocks and currents. Overall disappointing, does not meet standard set by other local hotels.

The outdoor area and view are the best part of it--nice hotel overall, although for the price, bathroom needs refurbishing (bathtub looked cheap and leaked).
Great for families and young kids.
Not far from Grand Baie either, by cab or bus.

We were there for our first wedding birthday. It was our first time in this hotel.
The hotel is really beautiful and the staff is very caring.
We had a really good time and would go there again without any doubt.

Gone terribly downhill in last 5 years

Extremely extremely disappointing having made a return visit after 5 years. The hotel, location and facilities remain good but with the rare exception the friendly helpful Mauritian service with a smile has vanished. Staff appeared stressed, unhappy and were in the main quite dis-organised.

Appeared to be as a result of the Hotel becoming a venue for cheaper package holidays from Europe with the main Restaurant in particular unable to cope with the number of customers. OK as a Business Plan but the quiet, joyful and peaceful Mauritian Culture that was there has gone. As one of the staff remarked to us in discussions - more like a works canteen now that the restaurant it used to be.
Sorry - do not recommend it without a Major Cultural Re-set which need to come from the top - Beachcomber.

Christmas time at Canonnier.

I loved the Canonnier. Everything about it was nice, very special for my family and me. The only regret is that I didn't book further in advance. It's such a popular destination. As it was our room, though nice was located toward the rear of the property which didn't afford us a nice view of the beach and ocean. Food was good, staff very friendly and helpful. Nice place. I played golf at Mont Choisy, which is just a 5-minute, free shuttle ride away. The course is very new but also very nice. When the course matures it will be superb, beautiful when the many trees grow.

Stay was great and I would go back but my suggestions on improvements would be as follows:
1. Bar service at the pool and beach instead of having to go to the bar
2. Our room had no shower, not sure what the others had but this should've been an option
3. Options on pillows, they were all very high
4. The toilet didn't flush properly

Beautiful hotel but needs some renovation

Great hotel - lovely location (although missing a good swimming beach) with lovely views of Coin de Mire.
The rooms are needing refurbishment.
Lovely staff - always ready to help! Check out took 30minutes though ( a bit long ).
Food was delicious and plentiful! All Inclusive option is recommended :)

I went for my honeymoon. It was an excellent restaurant. The view from my room was awesome. The food is great. We asked for Indian food one day and they prepared especially for us. They are great drinks, music and 2 of the night had awesome dance show. I would love to come back.

The hotel is situated in a beautiful ground.inside the rooms are disappointing.it is time to upgrade the room to a more modern setting..at the very least the rooms needs to be painted and refresh.

There is no internet in the rooms or in the hotel other than in a selected area around the reception area.

The cleaners start their work early.They are very noisy.Could somebody have a word with them.People spend a lot of money for a peaceful holidays and a lie in only to be disturbed by them.

disappointing- definitely needs a refurbishment

we stayed 10 days in Mauritius, we moved from east to north west then west and south staying in 4 different hotels all at the same price approximately. Le Canonnier was the worst of all, definitley not a 4 star like other hotels we stayed at. Good points are the staff that are very nice, views but that is it. The hotel definitely needs a refresh,there are lengthy corridors giving the feel of a hospital or student dormitory, the rooms are smelly, and very noisy if you are on the garden (music loud until very late), I had also to turn off the fridge as it was making permanently an annoying noise. There is a feel of mass tourism there as well (small restaurant space with lots of people, not always the classiest you would expect). But the worst point is the beach, it is rocky and very small, with people packed next to each other...Initially I booked for 2 nights to stay longer if we liked it but I was so happy to leave at the end. Avoid if you can, there are much better hotels there for the same price.

Lovely hotel in an excellent location on the beach

This was my second visit to Le Canonnier which has a wonderful history and is set in acres of beautiful well kept gardens with fortress, cannons and a lighthouse on the beach.
Swimming pools are pristine surrounded by beautiful palm trees, an amazing bayan tree and where birdsong is a daily delight.
The 3 restaurants (Le Frangipanier - different themed buffet every evening and delicious buffet breakfasts,Le Serenata-Italian, and Le Navigator with a view of Gunners Quoin) where food is delicious and service is excellent with soothing live music to serenade you as you dine. Evening entertainment was also enjoyable including Sega dancing twice weekly.
When I arrived on this visit I was disappointed as the decor of the rooms is not as bright and as well furnished as when I last visited, but it was clean, and well serviced and after all it's for sleeping and showering..one doesn't spend one's time on holiday in the room.

Nice winter vacation

Two families with kids stayed for 8 days in this great resort. The family rooms met all the expectations. The hotel was a bit crowded at times, but there was enough room to relax. Beach was shallow with rocks in the water, but great for snorkling right from the beach on high tide. Low tide was really low.

Food was good, especially the buffet dinners had plenty of variations. The Italian restaurant was basic, beach restaurant excellent. Anyway, I enjoyed most the buffet offerings. All Inclusive is a must if you plan to stay at hotel grounds for dinners. Good value for money.

Staff was very helpfull and friendly.

Overall it's a great four star resort.

As for any such trip on the sun,people should stay 2 weeks because the second week the weather was very very bad.I was lucky for the first week.Some people were so disappointed about the bad weather conditions.

Good situation

A beautifully situated hotel on a headland with several white sand beaches. The staff were polite but not particularly friendly although a better knowledge of French than mine might have helped.
The room was basic but ok. It overlooked the sea which was really good - garden-facing rooms might have been a bit noisy as there was a band in the evening. My room was blissfully quiet except for the sound of the sea - perfect for me.
The food w as good but quite expensive. A half- board package rather than my 'breakfast only' deal might have been more economical. The hotel is geared to the package tour market rather than that of the independent traveller.

It was great experience

We arrived in hotel at around 1800hrs. A good welcome by staff. I had booked a room with buffet breakfast. Since we are pure vegetarians we could not find food of our taste, Staff was so helpful they immediately called the chef for our demand, we requested for aloo pratha ( indian taste) specially for only two of us. Trust me, they provided us the best breakfast, we enjoyed the breakfast. For next 3 days when we came for breakfast they treated us nicely with food of our choice. Ambiance of the hotel was very good. We enjoyed water activities in the resort. It was great experience. I would definitely prefer the same resort for my next trip.

Stay was ok, not as if we were expecting. But there are 3 star hotels in the area which give far better services. Rooms are not so good. We have stayed in better rooms in a 3 star hotels. Few things which I found extra ordinary was their buffet breakfast and their hotel campus. Overall, it is not value for money.

Evertyhting about this hotel is mediocre - seemingly friendly staff but mostly poorly trained and bored, decent food selection but not tasting too great, spacious rooms but in a need of updating and cheesy and loud night entertainment. Pretends to be a 4* hotel (with prices set accordingly) but in European standards it is a weak 3*. Fairly remote location with ridiculously expensive taxi's (fixed 'hotel' rate of 500 rupees i.e. GBP10 for a 4-5 minute one-way journey to Grand Baie ) force you to spend most of the time in the hotel where they will try to rip you off in any way possible. I would dread to go there for a honeymoon! Recommended only to fans of huge all-inclusive hotels and spending holidays around a swimming pool.

The Canonnier is a comfortable hotel and the location is very good. The service was excellent, friendly and prompt and the facilities in the hotel are excellent. Unfortunately our bed was not comfortable. It was very basic and hard, and for this I would not stay there again. Also, the cost of drinks was ridiculously high, the cocktails were half the size and twice the price of those served in bars in Grand Baie and the wine was of poor quality and extremely expensive.

Vi havde et Standard Sea Facing Room og det fungerede fint, selvom det ikke var så stort (26 m2). Vi havde All inclusive og det var også godt og hotellet havde også introducret en \"Food truck\" så man lige kunne få lidt at spise nede ved stranden, når man kom tilbage efter en runde golf om eftermiddagen.
Alt i alt oplevede vi kun en god service og hotellet (Beachcomber kæden) har nogle rigtige gode green fee aftaler med ihvertfald Mont Choisy og Paradise.
De har også fine vandaktiviteter så man bl.a. kan stå på vandski og snorkle.
Jeg er ret sikker på at vi kommer tilbage for tredje gang til Canonnier Beachcomber.

Comme le dit le titre, incroyable séjour dans cet hôtel au nord ouest de l’île où la météo y est meilleure qu’ailleurs. Nous avons été très bien reçu par l’ensemble du personnel qui est adorable, toujours au petit soin.
La nourriture y est excellente et la multitude d’activités comprises est un vrai plus.
Hâte d’y revenir !

아기를 위한 공간(우유, 과일, 전자레인지, 젖병 워머)가 따로 있어서 좋았어요. 혹시 아기 침대가 나무 재질일까봐 챙겨갔었는데(다른 호텔은 나무 재질 아기침대가 간혹 있는데 그러면 자꾸 부딪혀서 아기가 깨요) 메쉬재질이어서 아기도 잘 잤어요.

Magnifique séjour. C'est mieux qu'un hôtel !
le personnel fait tout pour rendre le séjour agréable et réussit parfaitement. Tous les membres du personnel sont à féliciter.
Un petit bémol : les kayaks sont très inconfortables et indignes d'un hôtel 4 étoiles. Il serait urgent et nécessaire de les remplacer par du bon matériel. Il faut rappeler à la direction que RTM est la marque de référence en la matière !

Le paradis, c'est ici !

Personnel (Nick, Paintoo ? et bien d'autres) d'une rare gentillesse et extrêmement attentionné, vraiment aux petits soins, toujours souriant dans un cadre incroyable avec une végétation luxuriante, une propreté impeccable.
Nourriture excellente, très variée, viennoiseries du matin meilleures que dans certaines boulangeries françaises ! Possibilité de manger dans 2 autres restaurants que celui du buffet. Le Navigator vaut vraiment le détour !! Merci beaucoup d'avoir préparé la purée pour notre bébé midi et soir !!
Nombreux transats à disposition à la piscine et à la plage avec de l'ombre aussi (kids and baby friendly).
Possibilité de faire de nombreuses activités à la case nautique, équipe très sympa et patiente pour donner des cours (ski nautique et planche à voile, merci !!), tous les matins : aquagym dans une super ambiance. Et circuit mini-golf très sympa aussi !
Dur de quitter cet endroit où on se sent si bien, j'espère que nous reviendrons !!...

Besonders positiv erwähnenswert ist die Möglichkeit, tagsüber ohne Anmeldung (zumindest bei All-inclusive auch kostenlos) verschiedene Wassersportaktivitäten auszuüben (Segeln mit Laser-Jollen, Kajak, Windsurfen, Wasserski, SUP, Tretboote etc.).

Die Buchung von All-inclusive empfiehlt sich unseres Erachtens. In unmittelbarer Nähe ist kein gut erreichbarer Supermarkt, sodass man ohnehin auf die Hotelgetränke zurückgreifen muss.

Die Anlage ist super, sowohl vom Angebot als auch vom Design und Zustand. Das Essen war sehr lecker, frisch und abwechslungsreich! Nun das Negative: Baden im Meer ist fast nicht möglich, weil das Wasser sehr flach ist und viele Steine / kleine Riffe hat. Aber noch schlimmer bzw wirklich schlecht war unser Bett. Die Matratze war bretthart, so dass ich jeden Morgen Rückenschmerzen hatte und spätestens nach 4-5 Schlaf wach wurde. Ich muss leider sagen, dass wir das Hotel nicht mehr buchen, bevor die Matratzen getauscht worden sind. Das war wirklich ein absoluter Erholungsverlust, sehr sehr schade!

Je séjourne habituellement au Trou aux biches. Ce n'est pas du tout le même standing.
Les couloirs qui amènent aux chambres ne sont pas dignes du canonnier, on dirait un couloir de type novotel ou ibis et il faut au plus vite refaire les salles de bain et en particulier le coin baignoire de la 240 qui est lamentable. Les exterieurs de l'hotel sont très bien, le service également et le spa fabuleux. Donc il ne manque pas grand chose pour que l'hotel soit de très bon niveau.

Helt vildt fantastisk ophold. Hotellet ligger så smukt og sceneriet på hotellet er også gennemført. Meget smukt og hyggeligt. Personalet var de sødeste og gjorde alt for at alle følte sig velkomme og godt behandlet. Deres finest opgave var at gøre vores ferie fantastisk - det var meget tydeligt at de var en fælles kultur da alle var utrolig søde.
Hvis der skal siges noget negativt var det at menuen på Navigator (restauranten) forblev den samme (den bliver ikke udskiftet i 6 måneder) hvilket gør at når du er der i 14 dage at menuen bliver noget ensformigt. Men maden var ellers så fin - så det er ikke kvaliteten der fejlede noget.

Unser Aufenthalt war sehr schön. Die Anöage ist schön angelegt, die Aktivitäten wie Wasserski, Schnorcheln, SUP, Minigolf usw. sind alle inklusive und machen großen Spaß. Das Essen ist besonders hervorzuheben. Sowohl Frühstück als auch Abendessen boten eine super Auswahl auch an regionalen Speisen die alle sehr schmackhaft gemacht waren! Getränke sind eher teuer und nicht so hochwertig wie das Essen.
Die Anlage und die Zimmer sind modern gestaltet und grundsätzlich sauber. Schaut mal aber genau hin, könnte hier und da mal mit etwas Farbe nachgebessert werden. Das sind aber nur Kleinigkeiten, die wir uns bei den doch Hochpreisigen Zimmern etwas anders erwartet hätten, die dem Aufenthalt aber keinen Abbruch getan haben. Insgesamt ein rundum schöner Urlaub, auch ohne All Inclusive.

Beautiful hotel with nice and newly renovated rooms. Sunchairs surprisingly simple and uncomfortable. Restaurants very nice, but I would have liked a pool bar with simpler lunch food like on Mauricia Beachcomber. Also beware that the a la carte restaurants need to be booked in advance and fill up quickly. All in all a lovely stay with a luxurious feel!

Le gros hic est le problème d'insonorisation dans les chambres : dès que vous avez du passage dans le couloir ou des jardiniers avec leur tracteur bruyant à l'extérieur, vous l'entendez très bien : pour un 4*, c'est incorrect.

Sehr schön gelegenes Hotel, netter Empfang riesiges Familien Apartment mit 70 m² und großer Terrasse. Sehr sauber, ordentlich, toller Service unglaublich nette Staff, besonders in den Restaurants. Das Buffet lässt keine Wünsche offen, Halbpension ist meines Erachtens vollkommen ausreichend. PADI Tauchschule vor Ort, Auch dort alle sehr nett, schöne Tauchgänge, sehr viele kostenlose Wassersportmöglichkeiten. Gerne wieder!

Der Aufenthalt hat uns sehr gefallen. Die Anlage ist sehr schön und gross. Man findet immer eine ruhige Ecke für sich. Zudem bietet das Hotel viele Möglichkeiten, wie Spa, Minigolf, Tennis, versch. Wassersportarten, etc. Service war okay. Einige waren top, die anderen eher flop. Sehr unterschiedliche Bedienung. Essen war auch okay. Buffet dürfte etwas mehr Abwechslung bieten. Nach ein paar Tagen wiederholt sich der Speiseplan. Alles in allem hat es uns gut gefallen

Les repas sont excellents dans les 3 restaurants , le personnel est tres serviable,les chambres sont tres bien mais les salles de bain sont un peu datées et meriteraient d être refaites .
L animation le soir est très bien.

Mukava hotellialue. Palvelu hyvin vaihtelevaa, välillä erinomaista ja välillä todella huonoa / palvelua ei saatu. Lomamme aika jouduimme heräämään palohälytyksiin neljänä eri aamuna. Tästä kukaan ei tullut pahoittelemaan, eikä kukaan ottanut kantaa asiaan. Mielenkiintoista. Näin \"ison\" yrityksen luulisi panostavan juuri asiakkaalle informoimiseen. Ranskankielisille asiakkaille palvelu tuntui olevan huomattavasti parempaa. Ala carte ravintoloiden ruoka oli hyvää ja palvelu loistavaa, toisin kuin buffetissa.
