Great hotel but parking is not on site

We had a lovely stay at Hotel des Princes.

Initially we were very disappointed as before check in we had an email to explain that parking was off site. We specifically booked this hotel because it specifies on-site parking and I wanted our hire car to be safe. This hotel has a special rate with a couple of multi storey car parks and the system worked well, it's just not what we wanted.

Aside from this, the room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff were so accommodating and the breakfast was delicious. I would definitely stay again

Expedia described my room as having a double and a single bed. It had a double bed and a fold-out single sofa. Fold out sofas are NOT the same as beds. It's a known fact. I was not happy to find that is what I had booked. Otherwise, the place was great.

The smell in this hotel is absolutely vile. The rooms smell like raw sewage. We asked to change rooms because of the stench, and they accommodated us, but the second room was just as disgusting.

The hotel was super helpful when I arrived at 11:30pm with tired children and a dog. Pointed me directly to the excellent local parking which is very secure. This made our experience much more enjoyable. Lovely walks around the city in the morning.

We stayed one night at this hotel July 2021. Amazing location and friendly stuff. We had upgraded room. Still small but comfortable clean room. Buffet breakfast was fantastic, too. We enjoyed last day of our trip there. We did not use but there were also SPA that we could reserved, too. Well done!

Only thing I would add is it’s in the pedestrian area & hard to find.

Terrible, insecure wi-fi in tired room.

The hotel decor on some floors and rooms is very dated and worn. (The lobby and breakfast area are newer.) Rugs were old and dirty, some walls and doors in room banged up. Staff was inconsistent--some were very friendly and helpful, others hardly noticed you. Worst for us, however, was the wi-fi. It lacked any real security, was weak in the room, and frequently dropped out. For needing it for business, it was very frustrating and that alone would preclude returning.

A lovely hotel in the centre of Chambery. It Is situated in a pedestrianised area but you can get a special pass to drop off your luggage. There is a good car park less than 5 mins walk away and you can get a discount on this from reception. Small but comfortable room.
Breakfast cost extra but was excellent value with great choice and local products on offer.
Only slight down-side was noisy doors-which when people are coming and going at night can be disturbing.

It was a rather small room, with no amenities. good location to local shops and restaurants.
Amazing Bio supermarket nearby, L'Eau Vive', with great service!
There was a small fire alarm incident on one of the nights we stayed. We had to wait for the fire department and police to arrive ....very slowly. No feedback was given to us about the incident, and no apology. Check-out staff was VERY SLOW.

Stayed in Chalet Double Room (better room).
The hotel is located in the nicest location and in the old sector. Plus nearby are shops and many restaurants. There is a 400m walk to the bus station with another 100m walk to the train station. However it is worth this walk for the nicer location if you are staying a few days or more.
The hotel is small but ok and nice enough. There is one elevator lift but it is very small.
Buffet breakfast is normal and ok. The staff were helpful and polite, and the hotel overall was clean and tidy.
The hotel boast a Spa, but this is no spa. It is a small room with a small sauna and sitting chair and a small Jacuzzi, suitable for 1 person or at a tight squeeze 2 people. It has fitness machines.

I had the better room with bath plus shower over the bath. Good shower, however the bath was only half size which was disappointing and should have been stated. The bathroom was very small and strangely had a glass door, which meant light came through while sleeping. The room had air conditioning that worked. But there was no safe, or much else.
The view was terrible and also overlooked the rubbish bins. Plus at 04:00 men were moving bins which woke us.

Overall the hotel was fine, but for 2 complaints. Firstly there was no drinks facilities in the room. So no kettle to make any drinks. Secondly during the night there was a buzzing sound from the corridor ever 10 minutes which was loud enough to keep you awake all night until you learn to ignore it.

Centrally located in Chambery France

The Hotel helped resolve a miss understanding with the\" Family\" room. Website made it look as if it were 2-3 separate rooms, but it was one big room that sleeps 7 people. Very difficult to keep water in the shower with a 1/4 size glass swinging panel. The hotel was able to switch us to regular rooms for 3 of the 5 nights. Very nice. Breakfast for 11 euros was fabulous. Great spread with many options, French breads, cheeses, soft boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal and a great latte machine.
Don't plan on printing out your boarding pass in the lobby.
Hotel is located right in the center of the old town with lots of dining and shopping within walking distance. We also walked to train station and all around the historic city including the great castle. I enjoyed this little gem and already have reservations to return and stay again for 7 nights in October 2017. I have requested room #333 but have not heard back from hotel.

Excellent location, car park approx. 200 yards away. Rooms very basic and small. Beams might be very rustic, but they took up even more space. Air con very poor (don't think it was working at all). We didn't eat at the hotel, so can't comment on that. Steep steps/slope to get in main entrance - OK for us, but not sure about lesser abled. Overall, found it quite disappointing and would not recommend to friends.

This hotel over promised and under delivered . The website showed amazing rooms and public areas . The public areas were indeed lovely but the rooms awful. Room 52 was given to us ... Totally tiny for 3 . Michela on reception was a star and gave us another room 21. Felt like I was sleeping in a dormitory and the bathroom was like a school bathroom really horrible . The rooms do not look like the website but the public area is lovely . Michela on reception should have 5 stars she was helpful amazing patient kind ... Definitely a top member of staff . The secure parking was totally useless for us as we had a roof box so had to leave out car on the street and there was no mention of height restriction on your website so we did not sleep well as we were worried about our car

Tremendous service!

Our double room was not air-conditioned as was advertized! It was so very hot and a fan did little. The two at reception were most helpful and moved us into a family room, with air and lots of space. What a treat for us and I told them I would give them an outstanding rating. The breakfast was also ideal= would definitely stay there again. Mid-town which is charming!

Very nice room, comfortable bed and very well-located in the old city near many restaurants and shops. The staff members were helpful and friendly. Wifi was strong and parking was convenient and free at nearby streets. Otherwise the hotel has an arrangement with a carpark at a reduced fee of Euros 8.50 per day.

This overnight stay was booked for a brief stop over on our way to ALPE D'HUEZ. It was so pleasant and friendly. Breakfast was a classic continental with lots of choice. Our bedroom was designed in the Alpine chalet style , small but charming and very clean. It is a family owned and run hotel .

Stayed here for four nights. Hotel was adequate but, especially for price, facilities were limited (eg no patio, no Canal Plus, no tea and coffee making facilities). Hotel generally dark and gloomy although perhaps being in historic centre of old town.

Fine hotel. Good base from which to see the area.

The welcome and interaction with (very helpful) staff was very good (anglophone, and indulgent of infrequent French-speakers). The hotel itself is in a heritage-protected area, and modernisation is limited. The attraction of Chambery and the local region lies outside your hotel room, so this isn't much of an issue. There was no safe in the room, but a deposit box was available. Our room had a wee bit of an odour, which cleared with opened windows. The bathroom was a bit tired, but - other than a marked towel - clean and serviceable. Breakfast was fine, but nothing to shout about. It's a good base from which to see the area, but not a destination hotel, and I'd very happily recommend it on that basis.

Well priced option for a centre town stay

Not the easiest to find (there is a challenging one way system in chambery) but once there charming and pleasant.
Although apperantly undergoing repairs, we didn't see any. The room was tidy if basic but very comfy bed. Shower and bathroom need attention - bit old and tired and the room was musty when we first went in.

We stayed here in preference to an etap or similar. It was a good choice and we'd probably go back as we had a chance to explore the centre of chambery, finding a great little restaurant.

Staff helpful and a nice breakfast, if a little expensive.

We have stayed in this hotel twice, and found it excellent value for money. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the room attractively fitted out. Bathroom quite adequate. I particularly recommend its location adjacent to the pedestrian historic core of the city. Great for exploring the city and finding restaurants. The entrance, reception area and dining room are fairly dark and not spacious.

a peaceful hotel in the heart of medieval Chambery

My wife and I were in Chambery from September 24th to 27th 2010. We were visiting our daughter who is spending a year studying in the town.

The hotel was within 10 minutes walk of the bus station.( we came on the bus from Lyon Airport) and was very easy to find. It is centrally located within easy walking distance of all shops,restaurants and bars.We stayed in a small but very comfortable room on the 4th floor. It was clean and warm and the room was cleaned daily. We had no complaints with our accommodation.

We did not take the breakfast option but found two small cafes in the town centre which served coffee and sandwiches. The prices at around 5 euro was reasonable.

We visited the local market on the Saturday morning and found the experiece interesting. We bought some local cheese and meat, We also bought some chocolate croissants which were delicious.

At night we found some nice moderately priced restaurants There appears to be a reasonable choice of these. The locals were very friendly and helful,not the stereotypical French.

We visited the neighbouring town of Annecy - 1 hour by train. This is a charming town with canals and sitting on a lake.I would recommend this as a good location for a day drip. We also visited Geneva - 1 hour 20 mins - but were rather disappointed by this city. It was Sunday and most shops were shut.

We are returning to Chambery in November for my daughter's 21st birthday. We tried to book this hotel again but there will be 10 of us coming and there were not enough available rooms in the hotel on these dates.

I am looking forward to returning and would recommend the town as a lovely spot to spend a few days or as a base for visiting further afield.

I would recommend the hotel for anyone wanting a comfortable reasonably priced place to stay in this charming town.

Conveniently located to the centre of Chambery, in the restaurant district and close proximity to shops. Parking at first seemed daunting but in the event worked well once I had retrieved my pass from hotel reception to park in the secure Hotel de Ville underground car park just around the corner. Hotel staff were exceptionally well trained, the room was a bit cramped but in the event worked well, it was very clean and well presented. A good stopover and an excellent location to explore Chambery old town.
