1. Despite full payment made in advance except £0.53 the total advised that no payment was received and demanded EUR111.xx.
2. The USB sockets did not work requiring the hotel to supply an adaptor as an interim measure.
3. The mini bar consisted of just 2 coffee capsules and two small bottles of water.
4. The front desk rejected my Visa Debit card because it is not a credit card, he then placed it in his machine and it worked.
5. No hot water in the shower, the staff came and made adjustments to correct the malfunction.
6. The normal procedures found in a 5 star hotel were lacking and the room can be considered a 4 star rating.
7. At check-out a city tax charge was levied which was never notified to the customer by Hotels.com, at any time.

I was almost all positive about the stay except for the fragrance dispenser in the lobby and part of the entrance to the rooms. The sellers of these items have no idea to make it comfortable for staff and also guests. This kept me form having dinner in the restaurant. Just a suggestion for the manager look for a distinguished fragrance which is not synthetic and having it dosed as comfortable. Location and stay were good.

Location and common dining areas were good.Giving it an Average rating - could have been excellent f the hallway carpets did not look dated. Further when booking a cab - we were given some pushy drivers trying to charge us the same price as big lux car and actually driving us in a small car. Had to speak to reception again to sort it out. some Food ran out at breakfast with no refill for 30 minutes had leave and had a lovely little hair in the scrambled eggs - we joked it was Vitamin H. Did not bother showing it to the staff - what would they do besides apologise.

My Review

Despite its 5-star rating, my recent stay at Hotel Martin Chatou left much to be desired, aligning more closely with what one might expect from a 3-star establishment.

Service: The service at Hotel Martin Chatou unfortunately did not meet the high standards one would anticipate from a hotel of its purported caliber. Interactions often felt lackluster, lacking the attentiveness and detail-oriented approach synonymous with luxury accommodations.

Breakfast: The breakfast offering was another area where the hotel did not live up to expectations. The variety and quality of food did not reflect the 5-star experience, with options feeling limited and somewhat uninspired.

Room Quality: The room itself, while adequately furnished, fell short of the comfort and luxury one looks forward to in such a reputed hotel. The aesthetic and amenities provided did not match up to the usual 5-star room experience, with elements of wear and a need for refreshment apparent.

Comfort and Cleanliness: On the front of comfort and cleanliness, there again was room for improvement. The overall cleanliness did not reach the meticulous standard expected, and the comfort level of the lodging experience was underwhelming. This detracted from the overall sense of luxury and relaxation that should define a stay at a hotel of this standing.

In conclusion, while Hotel Martin Chatou boasts a 5-star rating, my experience suggests that the services, amenities, and overall guest experience align more to 3 star

In my opinion this is not a true 5 star hotel., 4 star is more appropriate for it. The rooms are average, the breakfast is nice. There is a spa in the hotel, but it's not included and it's only an Extra. Description says free parking- they mean you should look for a parking near the hotel. The hotel has no designated parking. The shower in the tub is not holding itself in place, you have to hold it. Everyday had to go back to reception to get the key card coded again. Many small things are not working properly!!! This is why they don't deserve to be 5 star hotel.

No bar on Sunday evening.

Friday to Monday stay. Room very comfortable and exceptionally large.
Lovely hotel and situ is 5*.
I only have two issues, one being the hot breakfast ie bacon, sausages eggs etc were cold on each morning so on the third day chose another option which there is plenty.
The other being waiting time to receive drinks when ordered. We waited nearly 15 minutes for 4 drinks and there was only one other customer!
Other than that we found the hotel very pleasant and will definitely go back but please sort out the hot food.

Nice hotel in a nice location.
I was expecting a place with a bit more character. The rooms are nice, clean, and spacious - but it all felt a bit modern and clinical like any modern hotel.
The extended hotel facilities look nice, but I didn't get to use any of them - I arrived at 10.15pm and left at 8am the next morning - so the only \"facilities\" I used outside my bedroom was for breakfast. A breakfast that was pretty decent.
Outlook from the front of the hotel over the lake is nice - but the view from my (not a lake view) room was very underwhelming by comparison.

The property is very nice and is in a very pretty location. I didn't like the 30(!) Euro resort fee just to use the gym. Also the breakfast only starts at 7, so you can't take advantage of it if you need to leave early.

Totally overrated place!
Everything looks nice on the pictures, the reality looks more like a kind of Chinese kitch.
The most frustrating thing for us that you pay a premium price for a so-called 5 stars hotel but to access the fitness, you need to pay 30 EUR extra... per person... Of course, as commented by the hotel manager, it is written in the booking conditions... My mistake, I haven't read the Arial font size 3 on the back of my screen.
The rooms are large and confortable but the room door is as thin as a piece of paper... Really noisy and annoying because there always id... who are speaking loud in hotel corridors.
For a business travel, I would not recommend the place either. There is not even one power plug available close to the table....
On the breakfast side, we had to queue more then 10 minutes to get in.... It was for sure a surprise to have so many guest 🤔
The quality of the breakfast food is closer to a 1 star motel...

The surrounding area is lovely as always, and the hotel is always nice and tidy.
However they are really stripping down on small things to save money: no longer is water provided in the room, the bathroom amenities are not stocked up but rather the amenities boxes are empty in the bathroom for the look. And their room service is not 4 star, I would not even give it one star. Very poor quality of food and food choice. Shame

Not a good business hotel, arrived at 9:30 pm to be told they were no longer serving the main menu, and they would not serve me even fries in the bar (or any food in fact). Restaurant was not comfortable and was too bright after travelling so did not want to eat there for a snack and a beer? I just wanted to informally relax.

Second night they said they were fully booked even though literally no one was In the restaurant at the time, and they only had ‘one’ table. So we left to eat outside the hotel, on return hardly anyone in restaurant??? They also refused to serve me coffee in the bar area and said I had to go to the restaurant mid afternoon, then left us 30 minutes to make it?

Business travel is not always a pleasure and they certainly made it less fun, sure this is a great retreat hotel but in future I will stay at more business friendly locations. Not 5*.

Happy except for a few niggles.

Expect more from a 5-star hotel. Shower tray design poor, so bathroom gets wet after a shower. No hair conditioner provided. Tea & coffee not replenished daily and no fresh or liquid milk. Restaurant food slightly disappointing in terms of our main course - duck breast was sinewy in texture.

The pillows were horrible - really not comfortable.Deformated and old.The queen bed-with two separeted blankets...Our room was growndfloor with forest view and 9.00h in the morning some workers start to pass infront of the window,to shout and make so strong noise ! It was really stressful ! The spa-very small,not like it looks in the photos...

A great location , we were there for valentines and the service was impeccable from arriving with the car , breakfast and dinner , lovely lake to walk around , we had a suite and it was worth upgrading , can’t fault it at all , staff were very communaitive before and accommodating when we were there , would recommend this hotel and I am sure it’s even more amazing in the summer !

Stay at this hotel often due to convenient location. But check in this time was abysmal. A large group had arrived before and they hadn’t thought of at least leaving a desk open for others to use. 30 min checkin time isn’t acceptable and no attempt to make up for it.
Further was stuck in one of the old rooms where you can’t even close the door on the toilet as it’s that tiny.

Set in a picturesque lake area, the chateau is a bit run down, however it is being refurbished. Some rooms are old and don’t have amazing hair dryers- which sucks in winter. The spa and pool area is awesome but can get busy. The breakfast was amazing and definitely one of the best! It is not quite 5 star. But it’s good for a weekend getaway.

The hotel is beautiful in a lovely setting next to the lake. We enjoyed a walk around the lake and sitting on a bench at sunset being very lucjy with the weather. we ordered room service and the main course of fish was superb. However the dessert was not so great, the chocolate pudding with pistaccio ice cream was not so chocolaty and seemed to be sent with hazelnut ice cream although we weren't quite sure what flavour it was. The room was very nice, spacious and clean, the blackout curtains were incredible in the morning sunshine, and the jacuzzi bath tub was just big enough for two and very relaxing. Unfortunately the mattress seemed old and wasn't the most comfortable and I was al little disappinted it wasn't the four poster advertised on the website. I also thought it was a little cheeky to advertise free internet which is in fact only 2mb free per room per stay (this goes fast on a smart phone with apps running in the background) and 10euros per internet pass thereafter. But then again we weren't there for the internet! So all in all a lovely stay in a beautiful setting.

Not good value for money

Check in was easy and staff friendly and efficient. Room was not the most comfortable but it was suitable for our purposes as we did not expect to spend much time in it. There was a faint smell of drains in the corridor leading to the room and this got worse in the morning when all bathrooms were in greater use. Our bath had not been cleaned properly and signs of the previous occupant were evident. There was no complimentary shampoo available. We breakfasted in the restaurant with a beautiful view of the lake. The breakfast was very good but we felt that at 26 Euros per head it was slightly overpriced.
Our overall opinion is that, whilst the hotel is in a beautiful location, it does not offer very good value for money.

the hotel is it the great quiet location, good dog walks and great restaurant near by
negatives:
no bellboy on arrival or valet parking, when we ordered the room service the waiter delivered first meal then returned after the 5 minutes with the second meal and the drinks arrived 10 minutes after that which was very disappointing as by the time they arrived the food was cold and my partner send his steak back and they have send this same reheated meal after 20 minutes which was shocking. shower gel in the dispenser on the wall, very limited choice of the drinks in the mini bar.
overall:
nice hotel for a one night break however the standard of 4 stars not 5. Management it is to busy with the costumers attending the conferences to be paying the attention to holiday makers.

My wife and I needed a hotel local to Genval while spending the weekend celebrating a friend's Birthday and this fitted the bill perfectly. Very comfortable hotel - not the cheapest but good value. We had a room on ground floor with a view of the lake. Room was spacious and comfortable. Hotel staff were very helpful including arranging free transport to venue for us saving taxi fares. Breakfast was all you need with good choice - didn't try hotel restaurant in evening. All good. Would recommend - try to get a room at front. Would look to stay again.

We had a great stay in Chateux du lac. It was my boyfriends birthday and the staff without asking presented him with a fab birthday cake complete with sparklers and spoiled us( we had pre booked dinner in their restaurant) food was fantastic.
Loved the extras like free sweets in the lobby!!

Best beginning of a vacation!

We stayed at the Chateau for the first three nights of our European vacation. The idea was to just recover from the time change of EST in the USA. We had some of the best massages and body treatments ever! The staff of the spa, front desk and restaurant took kind, personal care of us. The food in the restaurant was wonderful. The menu is limited, but everything is prepared perfectly. Even the lovely lake is perfect, just large enough for an afternoon stroll. We can't wait to return.

This hotel is everything you want when looking for comfort, ease of access, staff availability and their will to ensure your enjoyment.

Rooms are spacious and kept immaculately clean.

The atmosphere in the Chateau is a happy one.

Overall, not only would I recommend it to anyone visitingBelgium, but I would gladly return myself.

Lovely setting, expensive extras.

Modern, comfortable and spacious rooms and dining room overlooking the lake. The breakfast buffet was excellent as was the dinner.

However, there was a substantial, per person, charge to use the swimming pool ( and the rest of the spa facilities) so we didn't feel like paying this just for a swim before breakfast. Having specifically chosen the hotel as it had a pool, this was disappointing.
The hotel makes a lot of its eco tourism but we were refused tap water in the restaurant and were told that only bottled water was provided. These were half-litre bottles for the price of half a starter.

Great Place to Stay

The hotel is perfectly placed on the banks of the Lac du Genval and is a supreme spot for a business or short holiday. The hotel staff all speak French and not Flemish as I would have thought but are well trained and offer guests a feeling of professional assuring. The hotel restaurant is superb and serves a wonderful dinner and a very substantial breakfast. We will be returning with a couple of our friends later in the year for a golfing trip and we are already looking forward not it.

The hotel should appreciate their student staff since the two French students that helped us were exceptional and much more helpful than the hotel staff themselves. The hotel is about 40 min away from Brussels. But great experience overall and so appreciative of the French students at the front desk. They were amazing help to us.

Peaceful location

Hotel is in a peaceful location on the lake. The rooms facing away from the lake have a view of woodland. Rooms are a decent size but are tired and dated. The room we had was on the top floor at the very eastern end of the building. To get there involves a long walk, a flight of stairs and an old fashioned open lift (has no doors on the lift). Please do not this put you off. This is still a nice hotel, near the Waterloo battlefield and close to Brussels. It is not however a 5star.

Great location, nice rooms, poor service

The location for this hotel is unbeatable. The lake is really beautiful. While the room itself was nice and clean. we've experienced some mishaps during our stay. At one point the key cards stopped working, and on two occasions the reservations we made with the staff (for dinner and massage) were later not found in the system forcing us to search alternatives. The elevator was really slow and outdated, I found taking stairs to the 3rd floor faster.

Granted none of these are a big deal- it is really not the quality of service one would expect from a 5 star hotel. We've stayed in a few 3 and 2 star hotels during the length of the vacation, and found service provided by them to be easily on par with this and sometimes better. It is a real shame as like I mentioned- location is great and the rooms themselves are very nice.

Business Interests trump Guest experience

As a 5 star hotel and I had expected a 5 star 'guest experience'. Unfortunately the room I was allocated was directly beneath a health club and at around 8am I was disturbed by loud music from a spinning class. The hotel was unable to resolve this and I found myself having to leave my room to work. The hotel manager listened to my complaint with a demeanour that suggested he was familiar with this issue. He apologised but did nothing beyond that.

I believe that the hotel KNOW this is a problem and hope that guests will have left the rooms before it becomes an issue. Siting a health club amongst guest rooms is wrong. Starting a class that will inevitably disturb guests before 10am is wrong. Displaying a 'sorry but...' attitude is unacceptable.

If you find yourself in a wing distant from the club, this would be a reasonable place to stay.

Beautiful hotel and location

This is beautiful old hotel on lake Genval, close to Brussels but still well outside the city. The rooms very clean and well outfitted, the common areas are warm and inviting. Very disappointing that one must pay extra to use the workout room. Service in the restaurant/cafe area was horrible, as we had to wait about 15 minutes before anyone even spoke to us when trying to buy a coffee. It wasn't especially busy and there were plenty of waiters, they just couldn't be bothered. Not 5 star level of service. The personnel at the front desk were top notch, however.

5 star...I think not!

I expected quite a lot from this hotel and I was sorely disappointed! There were no lifts, so I had to haul my bags up and down the stars. The pillows were very lumpy and there is only one per bed. The breakfast was poor in choice and the pancakes were cold. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel and suggest that if you can avoid staying here...do so!

Nice locale, so-so spa, very expensive

We just had a single night stop on our way back from Germany to England and wanted somewhere with pool/spa so we could relax.

The pool is tiny - you can't swim in it. The other pool features are just so-so, not much better than a typical gym, and at 30€ pp it's quite expensive.

We arrived around 1pm, but their checkin time is 4pm, but they did at least rush our room so didn't have to wait too long. Not ideal for just an single night stop though.

Our room's bath/shower fittings were faulty and needed attention.

We needed robes for the spa area, but we weren't provided with any until a we asked.

Restaurant food was excellent, however, and staff were nice enough, but not especially welcoming or friendly.

Word of warning if arriving by road: Our satnav chosen route took us along a road that been dug up and was rocky/muddy and full of pot holes. It also tried to send us down the wrong way down a one-way street. Not a complaint of the hotel, of course, but it's probably wise to ignore satnav directions within 1km of the hotel.

Parking was ok and free.

Overal, I'd say it was too expensive for what you get.

16 years of visits bad service recently

Very poor service asked for a double bed got two singles in a relatively quiet days with few guests. Was located furthest away from reception. My clients got ripped off by a taxi organised by the hotel. At check out I wanted to make by points but the manager was busy talking to her staff and asked me to wait for 10 mins. My taxi had to take me for my business meeting and had to leave. Organised my own taxi not to get ripped off. Switching to Dolce. For my future stays

A nice hotel with pleasant staff. The location is ideal for business in the Genval/ La Hulpe area. The restaurant serves excellent food, although at times service staff can be slow.

Chateau du Lac - Too Many Steps

The Hotel's architect must have loved steps: steps from the front door up to the lobby (3), step from the lobby to the restaurant (two sets of 3), steps to the elevator to the rooms (5). With luggage, it is uncommon exercise to be lifting or rolling, or alternatively lifting and rolling up and down these steps - all without hotel staff help (the doorman stood by the reception desk, watched me navigate the steps from the rain-soaked cab outside and upon the desk clerk noticing me, \"Asked if he could take my bags onward for a tip!)
The Hotel has a beautiful view of its Lake, and the restaurants down the street are wonderful for dinner.
The Hotel serves a great morning buffet, and a musician practicing throughout the night somewhere in the Hotel will make sure that you are up and ready to go to your business meeting in the crisp morning air.

Beautiful stay just outside Brussels

Great hotel, probably the largest room I have stayed at in Europe. When we arrived, they did not have our reservation. After locating our reservation online we were upgraded to a lakeview room. The exterior is beautiful, but the interior is of a typical hotel. I was expecting a little more since it was described as a chateau.

we will be back

we were very comfortable the two things that were not altogether satisfactory were the long walk to the bedrooms the position of the lift, and we spent one hour on saturday trying to park the car owing to the hotel being very busy which we appreciated also when returning to the hotel in the evening there was only one bar man so it was difficult to buy a drink but overall we enjoyed the peace and quiet and as our family live in Lasne we will be returning

Amazing

This place is a find...and a bargain! I highly recommend this place. The grounds around the lake are beautiful and there is so much to do. It is a great get away and I regaret that we only stayed there one night. The staff was so nice and the restaurant was very good. If you are going to Brussels, you should consider staying here!

Everything was great! Service nice, great spa, good food! We will come back!
If we want to be picky. There was a difference in the quality of cooking between meat and fish. But the 4 service was good! The room temperature was hot and hard to manage.
