This is an expensive option for a hotel with average rooms. Being kept waiting at reception on every occasion for €400 a night is also not great. The range of buffet food is exceptional and the staff are generally very pleasant and helpful. But the experience was somewhat spoiled by being thrown out of the room by the cleaner on the dot of checkout who despite not knocking and being asked to leave continued to empty bins and strip beds while we collected our things.

The property is beautiful and most the staff is very helpful. Loved the breakfast and dinner buffets. Location against the dunes is wonderful. I didn’t love that they expect the guest to pay extra for use of the in-room safe and the room gets a lot of noise from pool area, rooms above, hallways. So if you are light sleeper, this may not be your hotel.

Great staff, comfortable hotel

Very comfortable hotel, amazing food in the buffet, however some elements of it became slightly repetitive, but the quality was always good.
The only one thing I would like would be a better coffee machine in the rooms, the instant coffee was terrible.
But overall incredibly comfortable, nicely kitted out and maintained, great pools and the service in the restaurants and at reception was absolutely fantastic. Cannot fault the staff at all.

10/10 would not recommend this place. This is definitely the most loosely labeled “resort” I’ve ever been to. I’ve never been to a place I’m paying so much money for that has so many stipulations and rules. First, what people said is true in the reviews. It is very quiet here with 95% of the customers being elderly. There is a strict dress code for attending the restaurants where you have to where pants and a T-shirt. Problem is, I didn’t bring pants because I’m on a hot desert island on vacation, I had to borrow some to get in. There is no convenience store in the resort to get drinks or snacks, so if you need to get a late night beverage or munchies, you have to go into town. The restaurants are only by reservation, no walk ins. The food is as bland as bland can be at every single restaurant. The buffet only serves breakfast and dinner and the restaurants only serve dinner. If you want lunch you have to walk out past the pool where they have a small menu for poolside food. The pool is awkwardly dead silent with no music playing for atmosphere, I’d be fine with even classical music. They have a poolside bar but WONT LET YOU BRING YOUR DRINKS IN THE POOL. When we tried, we were told we had to get out. This is supposed to be a vacation but it felt like daily we were being told we were breaking a rule or we were being inconvenienced. Spend your money elsewhere at a place that knows what the word vacation means. I’m all for rules but it needs to make sense.

I can't categorise this hotel as 5 stars, if most people here have had travelled to all 5-star hotel type, they should know the difference, but this is a good location staying in the south.

1.Check in - waited outside with others, processing were done simultaneously by calling everyone,our luggage’s were all brought into the room

2.No slippers so if you are not used to walking barefoot, then bring some indoor slippers.
3.No Free bottled water -this is 5-star hotel
4.No turndown service, but a room attendant will knock your door if you need a towel or not.
5.No coffee machine(capsules) but instant sachet coffee, cream, sugar and a kettle, no cutlery but rather a wooden stick (like those used in every Mcdonalds store).
6.TV has Sky news and other old movies but no other English channels to explore.
7.Safety deposit you need to pay, this is the only hotel classified as 5 star and in our entire travelling years that we must pay for this safety box.
8.Dinner foods are bland to our taste and the presentation is kind of repetitive and the same every night, the Chef should twist it a bit more appealing even though it's kind of repetitive each or other night, presentation of the foods helps.no one will greet you or accompany or pin point you to a seat, so choose your table or ask if it's free to sit.
9.Staffs are very attentive, In general, we would like to give thanks to Jesus that serves us all the time, he always been attentive and helpful to our needs.

There are many, many great points about this resort. The staff, the food, the showers, everything was great.

The reason for only four stars instead of five is because there is a mandatory rule that men must wear trousers to eat inside any restaurant and this was not explained before arrival. Women can wear any length of dress, skirt or shorts but men must be in full length trousers. Only having the one pair that I flew in left me with little options. If you have such strict rules, make sure guests know about it before arriving so I could have packed more appropriately. I’ve checked the booking process and all correspondence and nothing was ever mentioned. I spoke with management while there and the reply I got was, “we need to think about the other guests” but there was just a shrug of the shoulders when I said it was one clear rule for men and another for women which wasn’t fair.

It was an annoyance but it didn’t ruin the holiday which was great. Just wish you’d either change the archaic “men have to wear trousers” rule or let guests know who book through Expedia that these are the rules.

This was a beautifully clean hotel, and staff were, mostly, very friendly. The location is excellent for exploring the dramatic dunes. There was a very good selection of high quality food, and I particularly liked the healthy/vegetarian corner of the buffet. There are two restaurants that you can book into, which was a nice touch, although choice is restricted there, particularly for non-meat eaters.
Having a heated pool was really good for the time of year I was there (Jan). The gym was basic but offered enough for me with bikes, crosstrainers and treadmills with some weight machines.
I found it very disappointing that such a luxury hotel would charge me (50 euro) to use the in-room safe. This has been complained about by many other reviewers and the hotel just seem to ignore it. I was also not impressed that, although half-board, I had to pay for water with my evening meal. The water in the bathrooms is signed as non drinkable and you have to pay for a bottle of water from the mini bar. This feels like cheap tactics that you wouldn't expect from a quality hotel, and concerning in a hot country. The only water fountain is at the gym.

7 Day Winter Subshine Break

We choose to visit Gran Canaria every year late January and stayed at this hotel for the first time for a change. The hotel is in excellent condition and offers all the luxuries you would expect from a 5 star hotel. The buffet breakfast and dinner offered lots of choice and overall was very satisfactory. We requested a sea view room on the right side of the hotel to enjoy the afternoon and evening sun which we received. The pool areas were very nice with plenty of sun beds and shade if required. The staff were all very pleasant and polite and added to our stay. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby should you wish to go out. Plus it is a 25 minute walk to playa Del Ingles beach and a 40 minute walk across the dunes to Meloneras which has some nice lunch options. Our only moan was we thought the evening entertainment started and finished too early and clashed with dinner. Bearing in mind this is an adult only hotel a bit later finish would be better. However overall a very nice hotel and would certainly return.

Nous avons été déçu par notre chambre. Elle été située en rez de chaussée exposée nord. Il y faisait froid (18/19°) et pas de chauffage ! La réception nous a dit qu'il n'y avait pas de chauffage aux Canaries ! Nous avons dû de mander deux couvertures et mon conjoint est tombé malade. Nous connaissions cet hôtel et pensions que pour un cinq étoiles nous aurions un meilleur service. Un hôtel 5 étoiles doit être parfait !

Poor customer services on departure

After paying for our room in two parts (due to issues with their faulty card machine), my partner was told that the payment hadn’t been processed, and they insisted we pay the full amount again, along with our food and drink expenses. Even after showing them the receipt and proof of payment, they continued to insist we hadn’t paid. Thankfully, I kept all the documentation, but instead of an apology, we received a dismissive “okay, we’ll take it off now.” It was handled terribly, as if we were criminals trying to get away with something. This encounter completely soured our experience, and I’ll never set foot in this hotel again.

Other disappointing aspects included:

1.Noise in the Morning: The cleaning staff began rolling their trolleys on hard floors as early as 8:00 a.m., with loud echoes and chatter that woke guests up. Even on Sunday, they didn’t hold back, starting at 8:45 a.m.
2.Underwhelming Dining Experience: The breakfast and dinner buffets prioritized quantity over quality. Bread and pastries seemed store-bought, eggs were overcooked, and yogurt was an unappealing, gloopy blob. The coffee—whether cappuccino or café con leche—was undrinkable. Booking a la carte restaurants was impossible for days after arrival, adding to the frustration.
3.Lack of Basic Amenities: In the room, we had no complimentary bottled water, and we had to pay extra to use the safe. These are basic expectations for a five-star hote

The hotel was spotlessly clean and very well-maintained. The room was nicely appointed. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. A few of them had more limited English skills but nothing that Google translate couldn't take care of. The food choices were very good but beware of limited seating times at the restaurants other than the buffet. The pool areas are lovely and the hotel provides great access to the Maspalomas dunes and the Playa del Ingles.

A beautiful hotel that could improve the food

This was probably our 6th or 7th time staying here and it is still a stunning hotel. The rooms are comfy and spacious with large terraces, the staff are truly exceptional in every way. The pool is lovely and the prices of wine etc are all very fair.

One thing had let it down for us this year and that is we feel the quality of the food has deteriorated a little. Even the speciality restaurants, which are beautiful, the food was not quite up to scratch. Meat was often tough or tasteless and most desserts were inedible. Salads were great and there were occasional flairs but in general disappointing. Their emphasis seems to be on quantity rather than quality.

This didn’t get 5 starts due to a few irritating things. I would definitely return so don’t take these as off putting - just have an awareness!
€25 for the safe at a five star hotel is ridiculous, I was in an Ibis earlier in the year and it was free!
The noise from the housekeeping team in the morning was awful, I know they have a job to do but the paying customers are on holiday and don’t want to be woken at 7.15 every morning.
There was a stupid motion activated light in the bathroom that clicked on and off every 3 seconds - please deactivate these
The food was fine with a huge variety but not any different to any all inclusive buffet…..why do they not offer an all inclusive option?

We had a beautiful large room facing the dunes and ocean. The dirty towels were picked up in the evening. A very nice touch not seen very often now a days. The breakfast had a wide variety. The bubbly, white or rose, were lovely as well as the wide variety of fresh squeezed juices ( strawberry was our favourite). The only negative for us is we would have enjoyed a coffee maker in our room ( but there is a keddle for tea drinkers). Another nice touch at the Riu Palace, you have to check out at 11 but they will keep your bags if you want to stay for the afternoon. You can continue to use the pool and they will offer you a room to shower and change, if needed, before your departure. Wonderful option at no extra charge!
Overall, we had an excellent 3 day stay at the Riu Palace Maspalomas.

The location, on the edge of the Dunes, is spectacular. The two pool areas are lovely, with heated water, and lots of room to be socially distant.

The buffet breakfast is extensive, with masking required when getting food. I did not have dinner there.

The room I had was very comfortable, and, while one of the cheaper ones, I did have a view of the sea from the one side of my balcony.

All staff I interacted with were very pleasant, efficient and helpful.

A great 5 star hotel in a magical destination. The hotel is in a great position near the dunes and we were in ocean view room. The room was modern and large with a great bathroom. The balcony had an amazing view and is very quiet. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Especially at the pool bar, the buffet and at reception. Nothing was ever hard and rarely they ever said no. They were very helpful. The hotel is very modern and the pools are heated and look great. The buffet was good and changes every night, just way too many options.

Assets of this hotel: Nice pool area and convenient location.

Pick-up transfer from the airport worked without any problem, despite the plane being delayed 90 min. Check-in at the hotel also seamless at 2am in the morning, we even had dinner waiting for us in the room.

Food was excellent, wide variety of foods offered.

Reputable service, great fourth visit

This was our fourth visit, second year in a row for our anniversary. Service is top notch - from the warm welcome upon arrival to the professional service in the restaurant.It is no surprise that the hotel is close to fully booked when we go - they have a strong reputation for quality and service.
Breakfast and supper always have a variety to appeal to varying tastes. We often were full just sampling the different stations. We frequently took a drink after supper on the terrace to enjoy the entertainment. We tried the à la carte restaurant Krystal but were less impressed with the menu. A special highlight was the attention to detail for our anniversary. The hotel ensured we got the same table in the dining hall as last year and again planned a special menu for us.
The reception staff are knowledgeable for tips about the area, always willing to answer our questions and make suggestions. They were very proficient, and we never felt like we were waiting long or were neglected.
Our room with a sea view - so relaxing to look over the vast sands dunes and see the ocean. Our only criticism was room comfort. The air conditioning at maximum did not cool the room very quickly, especially if curtains were open. As long as our curtains were closed during the day while we were out, the room was maintained at an agreable temperature. As well, the bed was a little too hard for our liking.
We would not hesitate to return to the Riu Palace Maspalomas, and definitely would recommend it.

We had a very nice time here

We've spent 11 nights in the hotel. The service and the staff is very kind and helpful all the time. The room was very nice with a balcony and ocean view.
The food in the hotel restaurant was always good (the steak in Krystal is d@mn good!). The pools in the hotel are clean and the garden around it is well maintained and nice.
The gym is small, but someone on vacation should not spend time with workout... there are many things you can do on the island!

Checkin was a debacle. It took 15 minutes to get my room. Only it wasn't a sea view. So another 20 minutes to get that right. They charge to use the safe in your room which is idiotic. And no Internet in rooms at all. Only very insecure wireless in the lobby. It's 2013 and they can't buy a few wireless routers?? The buffet was good, room was big, views over the dunes good. The general area is as characterless as the rest of Playa del Ingles. Without the dune views from the room I wouldn't spend the extra to stay here

Très belle expérience, les dunes sont vraiment aux portes de l'hôtel. L'endroit est calme, reposant. Très bon service.
Climat idéal avec alizé.
Possibilité de rejoindre la plage playa del ingles ainsi que la place Maspalomas en longeant les dunes par une zone piétonne.
La plage la plus proche Maspalomas (attention mixte mi habillé mi nudiste) est à 600m environ en passant par un chemin entre les dunes ainsi que le quartier très commercial de Meloneras qui est vraiment chouette.
Pour les course à pied, je vous conseil justement ces 2 chemins: un en dur vers la place Maspalomas et l'autre légèrement sableux, plage et partie piétonne depuis Meloneras.
Ah, je vais quand même préciser que la communauté au drapeau multicolore est tout aussi visible que les couples hétéros.

Wir waren 10 Tage im Riu Palace Maspalomas und es war einfach schön, alle zuvorkommend und aufmerksam, mit einem lächendeln Gesicht.
Das Hotel war nicht voll besetzt, daher auch kein Gedränge bei den Mahlzeiten.

Not a five star hotel.

Nice location of the hotell, but need an update.
Been to many 5star hotels and this does not meet the standard.
Rooms are nice and clean, but beds are of less quality.
Also the doors are very thin so you can hear anything from the corridor.
They updated the showergel holder while at my stay. But it keept falling of the wall.
I dint feel so 5starish

Tres bon hôtel avec vue sur les dunes de Maspalomas
Tres appreciable pour son calme ! Grand bonheur de pouvoir etre au bord de la piscine, prendre son petit dejeuner et son diner sans musique !
Personnel tres pro et agreable
Chambre confortable
buffet du petit déjeuner et du diner très variés.
on peut diner des 18 h l’hiver, 18h30 l’ete
j’ai teste le spa avec un massage corps classique,
62 euros pour 55 min. Tres correct !
la playa del Ingles est a 800 m. La plage de Maspalomas est plus loin , accessible par un chemin a travers les dunes.

Das Hotel und die ganze Anlage sind in einem sehr gepflegten Zustand. Die Mitarbeitenden sind ausgesprochen freundlich und zuvorkommend, und auch das Essen am Buffet war stets frisch und es war für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei. Einziger Kritikpunkt: die Zimmer sind sehr hellhörig, was das Ausschlafen bisweilen etwas schwierig machte.

Perfect place

Wonderful service, very nice people and good atmosphere…. everybody was happy and useful.

If we should be forced to say anything not perfect, maybe the breakfast area could be a little bit more exotic compared to the rest of the hotel and maybe food …was nice…. but bread and potatoes was pretty dry also The fruit in full pieces was not too good.

Otherwise it was a great trip and we will hundred percent be back.

Nous avons adoré la localisation à proximité des Dunes et de la plage, le spot est magnifique.
L'hôtel est fabuleux, reposant,
les installations sont parfaites, les repas délicieux. Le service est irréprochable et le personnel au petit soin.

Seul bémol, un bruit du frigo dans la chambre et un certain manque d'isolation dans notre chambre
mais tout cela a été qu'un détail par rapport à la qualité de l'établissement

Das Personal ist sehr Freundlich und aufmerksam. Das Essen war super, eine grosse auswahl am Buffet. Das ein und aus checken war sehr schnell und zuvorkommend. Die Dünnen vor dem Hotel sind einzigarten, vor allem am Abend aus dem Hotel Restauraunt el oasis beim Sonnen untergang. Das Shopping Center und Strand ist in 10-20 Minuten zu fuss erreichbar. Somit ein gemütlicher Spaziergang.

Fantastisk personal på väloljat semesterhotell.

Jag är ingen fan av stora hotel. Detta är stort. Vackert och väl placerat. Nyrenoverat och fint. Stilfullt. Matsalen vid frukost och middag med väldrillad glad och serviceminded personal är som Finlandsfärja. Maten vid bufféerna är fantastisk. Pool och area snyggt lugnt och stilfullt. Personalen över alla kategorier är fantastisk. Vänlig serviceminded proffsig. Bra management där. Det var bara vid incheckning vi hade oturen att råka på en mkt kärv kvinna som drog ned standarden för oss ett bra tag. Men… gillar man denna typ av semester på stort hotel med halvpension så finns det nog få bättre ställen än detta. Jag håller mig gärna hädanefter till mindre och mer personliga ställen att slappna av på. BB

Unieke lokatie aan de rand van de duinen!
Prachtig zicht uit de kamer!
De kamerdeur naar de gang minder goed geísoleerd…. Veel geluiden door metalen karren die niet op PTFE rollers glijden en veel gebabbel vanaf de vroege morgen.
Eten en bediening waren fantastisch!
Prachtig hotel op unieke locatie!

L'amabilité du personnel. Leurs sourires er leurs attentions permanents , les locaux parfaitement entretenus. La diversité de petits déjeuners et dîners. La vue sur les dunes. etc.
N'oublions pas le calme et l'accès au transats

Leider hatte es einen Safe im Zimmer, den man täglich teuer bezahlen muss. Schade!
Am Abend gab es bis 23 Uhr laute Unterhaltung, was nicht nötig wäre.

Nuestra estancia ha sido muy agradable, el personal está en todo momento pendiente para que tu estancia sea de diez. El hotel es muy tranquilo, la zona de piscina está genial y el catering del buffet espectacular, variedad y calidad en cada uno de los servicios. Sin duda muy recomendable, repetiremos seguro;)
