Spent 5 nights here. Property needs tlc. Lots of broken floor tiles around and bottom of bathroom door rotting. Food always lukewarm. Thank goodness for the microwave. Nice plush reception and all the staff are excellent. Bed really comfortable. Property maintenance manager needs to walk around and see the problems mentioned and the restaurant manager needs to temperature probe the food. Soup I had to microwave for about a minute and the main meals around one and a half minutes.

A pleasant surprise. I didn’t know what to expect but it really impressed me. Great hotel for kids and families but also me (as a solo traveller) enjoyed it. Loved the help yourself element to the all inclusive. Means there weren’t any huge queues at the bar. Rooms were a very good size. The hot food for dinner could’ve had a bit more flavour and variety but that was one of a few downsides. I’d visit again in a heartbeat.

I had to walk 3 blocks and up 5 floors just to get to my room when i asked for a room change numerous times this request was ignored i was quite poorly the first week i was there with what i believe now was food poisoning i wanted to call for a doctor which a was unable to do as the room had no instructions on how to contact reception tbh it was my worst holiday ever !!!! On arrival they told me my room was over ther and pointed he sent me 3 blocks and 5 floors up in the wrong direction with all my luggage he then he then told .me to go a totally oposite ditection and dinning area is just meyhem sometimes i found my self wondering round looking for somewhere to sit as it was chahotic the sheets also had a dirty mark on them all week so i know they had not been changed and at night being not well i needed the extra blanket the made would move the blanket every day and put it somewhere different which i found really annoying and the food wasnt great tbh was just glad to be comming home

Lovely hotel,staff were brilliant,the lady who cleaned our rooms was the happiest person always with a smile on her face and left the room spotless. The entertainment was good and there was something on all day if you wanted Food was nice,pool was great abd the grounds are lovely. It was my partners birthday and the even left a card and a small box of chocolates in our room on the day.

A reviving, relaxing family stay at Abora Catarina

Less good news first: the price (sorry for mentioning money in this context,,,) . Then the good news:

A very good stay with competent service from a skilled and helpful hotel administration. Excellent buffet food and service, congratulations!

Lots of care and planning in order to produce diversified activities for the hotel guests. Some might consider that the daily presentations on the theatre scene in the pool area were quite loud (until 23.oo-24.oo hours), but they were also good with something for everybody. Did somebody necessarily have to sleep very early on vacation in Gran Canária? The hotel's programme and service efforts deserve praise.

We had a comfortable room with a beautiful view, and the spacious hotel area with lots of different features was a pleasure.

We had insects in the room, they sprayed, but they came back. The shower was leaking frim the ceiling when we took showers, and not lioked at. The food could use an upgrade and the building could use some upkeeping. The staff at the restaurant and bars were amazing!!!

The hotel is very much geared up for families; vast hotel, good sized pool areas (plus slides etc for the kids) and generally enough sun loungers (inevitably with some putting towels on beds before breakfast, to reserve them). The hotel is clean, bright and modern and the room was airy and spacious with comfortable beds and aircon.
Food was ok - being an all inclusive in a four star, there was the inevitable feeding frenzy, \"canteen\" feel about it. Plenty of big vats of various foods under hot light bulbs keeping everything warm! Lots of options to suit most palates and breakfast was good and plentiful. There's a self-serve counter with burgers/chips/hotdogs by the pool during the day, but it wasn't great quality. Evening meals were uninspiring; mainly beige food like chips, pasta and trays full of overcooked casserole-type food and tinned/frozen veg. The coffee was from an instant machine and the drinks included - Amstel beer and wine on tap and a soft drinks fountain were fine for us. I would say they are trying to cater to everyone obviously, but it made meals quite boring and samey after a few days.
The area is built up with accommodation of similar style and is close to the weird and wonderful Cita shopping centre! Full of duty free shops, clothes, tourist tat, restaurants, bars and an interesting array of \"adult\" establishments in the basement! Hotel is a short walk to the sand dunes and beaches of Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles and close to public transport links.

Hotel is nice. Amazing location right on the dunes. Food provision and pools are excellent and the staff were great. Lots of the rooms overlook the entertainment area which make it very noisy until 10.30pm but the hotel were good about moving us to a quieter room. A few things need updating a little, the decor is a bit tired in places and a few broken sunbeds etc but on the whole it was a great place for a family holiday.

Not a 4star, take your booking somewhere else.

This is not a 4 star hotel and photos are misleading and deceiving, I would give it a 3 star at a push. I only booked this hotel because it had a splash area for children, however, the water was freezing cold and area got jam packed with not enough loungers. The hotel is in major need of renovation, there are rotten doors everywhere, paint is peeling off the walls, the shower is a danger to everyone as it goes from very hot to cold without any control, water pressure is very low. The food in the restaurant is luke warm at best, tasteless and out of 4 days I have been there, I was sick on 2. There is very little choice and what is there is dry or uncooked. This felt like a cheap canteen and definitely not worth the money. The food court during the day had very little choice and it is self service making me doubt of the food safety as children were constantly touching the food and the storage of the food raises questions as well. The pool area is cramped, slippery and with broken tiles all over, making it dangerous for children and adults alike. I will be writing to the hotel group directly as I am not happy for the services and the false advertising. People are asked on check out to give a 5star review in exchange of a drink, so be wary of all good reviews.

staff friendly and helpful. good variety of food meals in an all inclusive package. hotel very clean and room however bathroom shower very poor state for a 4star. chip floor, water leaking outside the shower on the floor and out the room door. only to notice many other people have the same issue as we notice their room doors was leaking water from the shower to the carpet outside the passage. cocktails were crap. too sweet not worth it. sofa on our floor looked to be thrown out was disgusting. house keeping responded very efficiently to our request. there was no delay. balcony with a view was great. easy reach to exterior transport services and beach. lots of kids so maybe if you want no kids better to come here. swimming pool not that huge despite having several pools but majority cater for kids.

Busy hotel with a small pool and limited facilities. There is no hot pool available in winter. If your flight is in the evening, you can't use the all-inclusive facilities after check-out.

There is no towel service at the main pool; you have to go to the busy main reception to request a towel, which takes 20 minutes.

Limited food options for vegetarians; all main dishes include meat, and the choices for vegetarians remain the same every day.

The snack bar offers a limited selection, with options like burgers, sausages, and nuggets available all day.

Good points;
Animations and kids' parties were excellent, and the cleaning service was good.

Kids had a blast! Resort ticked all the boxes and the splash park , pools and animation kept them well entertain. Great location too with a meer 5 minute walk you are on the dunes. However beware of walking direct to sea as you'll find yourself in the middle of a nudist beach. Walk along the boardwalk until you get to the hard rock café.

Great hotel, certain things could be improved, too much pork on the all inclusive menu, somedays only pork and fish! More chicken please as most people eat that! The gym area was a joke, no air con and half the equipment was out of service! The room near the pool are very noisy, but the quieter rooms away from the pool were perfect.

Nice location, helpful staff . Pls avoid this property if you are vegetarian as not much options. The dinner Chef tried to help and hence we had something to eat however the breakfast and lunch chef simply denied to make anything for vegetarian. Salad, fruits and sweets are mostly the option for vegetarians which I am sure no one can eat everyday. Fabulous options for Non- vegetarians. 3 swimming pool.The Air condition in the room doesn’t work properly and hence had few sleepless nights when it was above 30 degree.

Fab 3nite stay

Hotel service was fab from start to finish of our 3 nite stay. Food was great a little cold at times but that would be due to us being late mostly 😄 great selection tho and beers wines etc was just class.
We were lucky to get an upgrade on arrival with a pool view. Entertainment at the pool and at nite was great craic. Fabulous singer on monday nite past she could sing anything had my daccing on my balcony while getting ready for out in the town.

Overall our stay was ok. The rooms had been updated but there were areas that needed some attention (ex. Pool, some lounge chairs).

The ceiling in our room had some water damage and it looked like mould/mild dew had started to grow. We had ants on our garden patio. We found cockroaches near the end of our stay.

The cleaning ladies didn’t come until late afternoon and didn’t take dishes (not something they do). Everyone was nice but customer service and going above and beyond was not something

Hotel was spotless with staff constantly cleaning. Staff were amazing and nothing was a problem. The room we had was a delux view no 549 on top floor and the view was breathtaking. We did all inclusive and cannot find fault with any of the food. Good selection. Wine and beer on tap. You are just about ten minutes from the dunes which are amazing. Great Hotel and great staff. We will definitely be back.

Pools and water slides were great, unfortunately not heated, so meant adults didn't want to spend too long in, but children didn't seem to mind.
All inclusive was good, but pls list ingredients or have vegetarian or no nuts signs by foods

Great family resort most suitable for people with young children. If you want quiet need to request a room furthest from pool area. This does entail a long walk to main reception and dining areas. Food at buffet was adequate and met expectations for an all-inclusive 4-star hotel. The coffee and tea from the machine was terrible. Additional charges for a decent cup of coffee at the bar or to activate the in-room safe was not acceptable, something we have not encountered in similar properties Two nights of entertainment were of a high standard and one night below standard. Would not recommend this hotel for people without children.

Perfect for families with young children

This all-inclusive hotel is fabulous for families, not ideal for adults or a romantic get-away. Rooms are very spacious, well-equipped and nicely decorated. Service was very friendly. The location is very good for walking to the Masapalomas Dunes and Yumbo Shopping Centre.
The food was decent and there was quite a good selection, though not always served hot. The shower had very low water pressure and changed from very hot to cold but maybe because my room was on the 5th floor (that's one way to conserve water!) There were so many families and noisy children running around the dining room that it was difficult to have a conversation. At the pool, it was impossible to find an empty chaise unless you left towels there early in the morning.
Our biggest complaint were the unexpected extra charges. Never in our very well-travelled lives, have we been asked to pay for the use of the room safe - 2 EUR per day. The coffee in the dining room was undrinkable, whichever one you chose in the machine, and for \"real\" coffee at the bar, there was a charge. (So instead we went to cafes outside the resort). The mixed cocktails were ridiculously sweet and also undrinkable. Wines on tap were not good and all other drinks were considered premium, including cava, for an extra cost.
Overall, I recommend it for families with young kids. They will love the kids' club, pools, playground and shows in the evenings.

Our family stay here was pretty great, however some issues appeared.

Pros: Great animation team&program, really kudos to all of them, they do amazing job! Stunning WiFi coverage although with 10/10 Mbps limit per device (always got that speed). All staff were extremely nice. Checked-in even a while before 2 PM. Sparkling clean. Great location close to the Dunes and nice design of the hotel. Adequate meal variety, good quantity/availability of foods. Excellent value for money!

Cons: BEDS! Although they tied the single beds together upon request, they are very light and with wheels so they move all the time - but the worst thing is they are way too soft. We woke broken every morning. Balconies are not safe for small kids and a locked room is easily unlocked by 2y.o. (They gave us a wristband to write phone no. at least; there are only few CCTV cameras.) One type of glasses in the restaurant is usually dirty. Pizza is quite terrible. Drinks are too sweet/sugary. Beer is average (Amstel). Coffee is poor but drinkable. Children’s playing room only available 2h/day. The playgroynd could have more lights for the evenings. Some places could be arranged with more children safety in focus. We asked for a quieter room but got one above the main pool with the stage visible, so that didn’t really work. Actually, there are very little “quiet” rooms - expect music all day. Not a good choice if you need to do some work (no good sitting in rooms).

A bit disappointing

I want to first say that the entertainment and cleaning staff did a great job. They were friendly and always around to make our stay pleasant. If there were a separate rating for the entertainment staff, I would give them the highest rating possible. In fact, I felt a bit sorry for them, as they were the same staff from morning through midnight. The same energetic group of young people got us motivated and exercised throughout the day, took care of our son during “kids time” and after-dinner “kids disco,” and even put on a nightly show. Yes, they earned every penny the hotel paid them. Unfortunately, I got the vibe that the ownership just wanted to squeeze every penny they could out of us and their staff. Though we were at an all-inclusive hotel, the nickel-and-dime vibe started at check-in when we were informed that there was a small fee each time we exchanged our pool towel. While this could certainly be forgiven as an eco-friendly reminder not to waste water, the daily fee for use of the room safe could not. Likewise, the additional charge for ice cream and popcorn prominently displayed for kids to see (and desire) was disappointing, as was the additional cost for a proper cappuccino. Coffee aficionados would be disappointed, as the only non-fee options were filtered coffee (which was fine) at breakfast (not available at lunch or dinner) and the extremely dated self-serve machines that spewed bland powdered warm drinks throughout the day. Could go on, but no room.

The room, its view, the weather and the food were all good to great. The vast majority of the Staff were helpful, friendly and efficient, with the exception of the \"senior manager\" who thinks barking \"you have to pay for that\" is good practice when one hasn't been there long and doesn't yet know that \"all-inclusive\" is a \"flexible\" term.

Note that this hotel is now firmly \"Family with Children\" oriented (for example tennis courts were removed for yet another playground) and while you won't find tranquility, rip roaring or sophistication it is still good to very good.

Having stayed at this hotel for the past 15 years pre Covid we we’re always happy. Sadly this has become a hotel aimed at families - Once you were able to sit in the quieter areas of the gardens to avoid the pool area where it was very lively. Now all the seats have been moved to only the pool areas where it has loud music playing all day and screaming children and entertained staff. Plus many of the sun loungers and parasols are broken. So where do we go?
The food and the rooms are still of a high standard and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming.
However after 15 years at your hotel we will no longer return as you obviously want a different audience to couples. Very sad for us as always loved your hotel.

It was a lovely stay for the week. Food choice was varied and was nice, particularly the breakfasts. Disappointing only ice cream for the kids at lunch and dinner. Would be great to be able to have that during the day. Pool snack bar is okay. Food can be sitting for a while.
Good location, good maid service and helpful staff.
Showers aren’t great- they sent a technician but it was either too hot or too cold. Not great for the kids.
I would visit another of these hotels but glad I booked through hotels.com and not as a package. I would have been disappointed for the package price for a week.

All in all, a great place to stay. Only one negative:

There was building work going on, with noisy drilling. Occasionally turned a haven of peace into something else.

Ok, it's a 24/7, 365-days hotel, so there's not much that can be done about that, of course. Gotta happen sometime! :)

Modern refurbished hotel with great pool area. All inclusive dood and drinks good value for money - especially in GC. Our vegetarian friend had difficulty finding food without ham snuck into it! The double beds are actually twin beds pushed together which you fall in between. If you're a couple that likes to cuddle at night. Overall would recommend for the price.

Great location. Stylish.

Stylish modern hotel. Pool did not seem to be heated nor the jacuzzi which was a shame. Food was decent but nothing special; typical European “caters-for-all” array. Staff weren’t very clear about allergens though which was worrying.
All inclusive drinks were good and the bar service was great.
Location is great with 10 min stroll to the Yumbo or 5 mins to the start of the dunes/25mins to the beach

We like it!

Stayed here before so knew what to expect. Self service drinks 24hrs is great, room and hot spotlessly clean. Food decent, although not always hot. Staff great. Nudist terrace is nice and peaceful.

Lovely rooms but food and service could be better.

I really did like the hotel generally, the rooms are of a good size and are very clean. The availability of drink stations as part of the all inclusive are great but the food does get a little monotonous in my opinion. The snack bar by the pool could certainly look at a more appetising range in my option. There are two pools, the larger one was far too busy and noisy for us with people on top of one another. There is a smaller much quieter pool which we enjoyed more. As is the case in many hotels people are out at the crack of dawn putting towels down to reserve sun loungers and parasols which then remain empty for most of the day. I think they would benefit by putting a stop to this practise. Reception is ridiculously slow which they really need to address. The grounds are really beautiful with nice walkways and ponds and we had a great view of the dunes from our room.

Enjoyable week at Abora Catarina

Nicely-renovated, large guest room and balcony, poor air-conditioning. I had a lovely view over the landscaped gardens, quieter since not close to the pool. Acoustics (doors slamming) and loud guests may bother some. Friendly and efficient personnel. Food and beverage overall good, although I would have preferred more easily-accessible paying wine options during meals. The complex is spread out (6 low-rise buildings) - I love to walk so it didn’t bother me. Great location: walk to Yumbo Center and to the Dunes/Beach. Excellent value for money.

Lovely rooms, good food, friendly staff.

Hotel rooms and communal areas were lovely, as were the gardens but the corridors badly need some updating as carpets were dirty and half of the room numbers were missing (on the ground floor anyway). Staff were friendly and helpful. Food good in restaurant (and 24 hour drinks and snacks were great). Entertainment staff worked hard but shows in the evening were a bit naff! Hotel 15 minutes walk from the Yumbo Centre and 10 mins in a taxi from the Irish Centre. Not many bars in immediate vicinity, although I think there may have been some in the Citi centre which we thought was just a shopping centre till our last day when someone mentioned a pub in there. We didn’t investigate too much as the shops were pretty tacky..

The hotel is great. Great location among numerous shops, 2 main pool areas, huge rooms, all inclusive service. A 3 minute walk to the dunes which are amazing. Towels are 5euro each(returnable deposit), the use of safe is 2 euros a day which is all fair enough. Food is good, especially desserts, but as a non-drinker I found it hard to find something decent non-alcololic to drink at the hotel. Juice from vending machines is undrinkable(Im not exaggerating), and the only choice you have left is a soda drinks dispenser with Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, 2 choices of Schweppes and a 7up. And there is water which is all I had left to drink by the pool. There is a bar by the main pool where I could order non-alcoholic beer. Apart from those you can always have beer (Amstel) and there is a wine dispenser with red, white, rose and sangria. Cava in the restaurant for breakfast only. All in all it would be good if the juices were drinkable, but there were absolutely disgusting. Main pool area is full of life with animators and music all day long. We preferred another pool at the back of the hotel- very quiet and intimate. There is also a sundeck for nudists on the roof. Hotel really has everything you need, a real bargain and value for money. Mostly Germans in their 50+ but there are some young families with kids. Facilities for kids are great. Playground, game room, animators, kids pool. There is also a decent gym at the hotel free for everyone to use. I would recommend this hotel to everyone!

Great hotel and location

Everything was great. Loved the hotel particularly the food and bar service. Room was extremely comfortable. All your staff were friendly and offered good service. Loved the location. Close to shops, bars and dunes.

Only three minor negatives which I hope are constructive.

1. Entertainment - animation were good but why couldn’t we have more groups/singers. We had one - the Tina Turned experience - who were brilliant. Would have been great to have had at least 2 or 3 acts like this during the week.

2. Hospitality room - broken shower, no hooks for clothes. Quite difficult to get showered and dressed.

3. Would have liked some outdoor space without smokers. The upstairs bar terrace was a lovely area for pre dinner drink but not pleasant as a non smoker.

Everything else was great.

The hotel is recently renovated and overall quite nice. You notice its age in some areas, particularly around the pool and halls, but the rooms are exceptionally large and well designed,with nice balconies. I did see there are ants in some of the rooms, mine had many on the floor, but I don't know how much the hotel can do to avoid this. The food was average quality, but there were some nice dishes and variety most days. If you ask for a higher floor the views are quite nice. It's overall a good option with a central location by the Dunes and nightlife

15 min walk to Maspalomas dunnes and beach or free bus every 30 min to Playa Del Ingles beach.

My Favourite Hotel

This is my favourite hotel. I have returned many times. I can't fault any aspect of the hotel. Reception and staff are polite and efficient. Bathroom is clean, modern, well equiped. Lounge / bedroom is clean, modern and comfortable. My room (511) had a very nice view from a large balcony of sand dunes/beach/sea. The area gets some traffice noise but no music/party/drunken noises. Restaurant is very good, I can't fault anything, food is amazing, fresh, not over cooked and so much choice, the restaurant is clean, bright with views of garden, outside dining and staff were excellent

Ten day stay at IFA Catarina

Arriving quite late I was welcomed and cheched in.Despite requesting an upper floor room I was allocated another but this was very quickly and politely rectified. The meals were very varied and good although sometimes the chicken was bloody in the middle. Excelent service from the very helpful and polite staff. One criticism however, although it says the towels placed by the Germans reserving sun beds would be removed they were not and sometimes even at 0730 most of the beds on the sun deck were reserved - many not used at all just reserved in case - this is not good as we all pay for their use and should have a fair chance.

Ideal place to stay to be close to the beach and the sand dunes. Plenty of activities to amuse you and the children. Spacious gardens for quieter relaxation.

Catarina is my favourite hotel, it is rare that I return to a hotel . . I look forward to my next visit . . Every aspect of catarina is excellent . . . Overall a very tranquil pleasant stay . . Polite prompt service from all staff . . Requests to change room is promp . . Large nice gardens with different sections . . Huge selection of fresh healthy food every meal . . Rooms and large balcony very nice, only 1 plug socket though . . Perfect location next to beach, dunes and a nice walk to gumbo . . This is a quiet/tranquil hotel, I you want party atmosphere go somewhere else!

Great but long walk to room!

Good hotel,good location and pleasant surroundings.
Air conditioning in rooms not brilliant needs to be more powerful.Vending machines out of order so no where to buy water at night so there needs to be a facility to buy water from reception.If you can´t walk far or have a young family the walk to far corridors involves going up and then back down a flight of stairs-no elevator available to this level!It took us over 5 mins to get to our room! Lunchtime menu at poolbar not brilliant for kids could do with kids choices.

A very nice experience.

Front desk staff excellent at handling all inquires. Dining staff excellent, courteous , and prompt.

The hotel is ideally located in walking distance from the Dunes and the Beach. All the amenities were in good shape, and the rooms were spotless.

Decent location & facilities

Good location, everything is basic, but perfectly functional. Clean, tidy, modest. We were always out, so it was just a place to sleep and suited us fine.
No kitchen or kitchenette.
Waffles by the pool between 3-4:30 :)
