Bed sheets were never changed. Got clean towel twice in 18 days. Custodian never worked down and surfaces in the room. Breakfast was terrible, cold food, hard rolls and beans for every meal. 90 percent of guests are German, went serve British breakfast? I've staying at Rey Carlos for seven years, never had a complaint, but this year was terrible. Also, do not stay on the this floor, you won't be able to sleep until after midnight when Cita shuts down. All in all not a good experience.

The room was not even near the standard of the pictures that were shown in the app when you click on the specific room type and the images are shown for that specific type of room and they play a big part in the facts you base your decision on which room type you are booking. So I would suggest that you make sure that you are matching the correct images with the correct hotel room in your app. I was very disappointed and would not have made a booking for a room of this state or run down type

Our stay had breakfast included, i find the earlier you go for breakfast, the better, only on 1 occasion we made it early and there was veriety and it was warm/hot.
The hotel itself amd staff were clean and plesant. There was a terrible smell of sewage in the lift always and in our bathroom for a couple days. The pool is large and everything you need is within walking distance. I did not see any children at the time of our stay. I would stay again

The worst hotel I have probably stayed at. Manuel the receptionist is rude and most non- attentive I’ve ever experienced . Check in slowest on earth. Asked for a second key as we were 2 friends sharing a room, not possible and not their problem … Asked for a second bath towel one of the days as the cleaners one left one, it was like asking for a leg or an arm.
Last day Was told that last could have a shower as our room was not available for late check out . When asked Was handed in a towel to go and shower nowhere cos nowhere was available.. errmm and with the attitude “not my problem”. Awful awful service. Shower Water flow between cold and mega hot, difficult to shower; bathroom door didn’t close properly and the facilities haven’t had an update since it open properly in the 70’s. Stay away!

Extremely dated, very uncomfortable beds, ceiling fan made a grinding noise, air con didn’t work, the room was noisy as it’s right next to Cita centre, and very inconsistent wifi. But worse was the shower, which varied between scorching and freezing in an exact regular pattern, so I had to time the window of a second or two when it was usable, and dance in and out of the water flow. And at check in, they made me produce some form of receipt which showed both name and the hotel; this doesn’t happen at any other hotel, why here?

The ine i got was old furniture, and pretty creepy.

Was a nice stay missed Pepe who was on holiday.Joelle was very nice on reception as he always helps me to get on WiFi.But one receptionist never looked happy others very good.I always stay at this hotel when in Gran Canaria one person won't put me off staying there again and again.

Very hospitable staff who go the extra mile - had an issue with aircon and a maintenance guy came over as soon as possible. They then provided me with a temporary unit as the system took a while to regulate the room temp. Breakfast was very impressive too and my request for a quiet room was granted. I like superior rooms as it was more like an apartment so could cook there too if I wanted to and the hotel was very centrally located. Please thank your lovely staff

The hotel is in a great location and has a lovely pool area which is in the direct sun for most of the day.
I stayed in an ‘updated’ apartment which had a balcony overlooking the pool at the front of the hotel. The apartment was very large and offered most things I needed - a few extra touches were needed like washing up sponges and liquid and better shower gels etc. but otherwise the apartment was comfortable. I’ve downside is the noise from guests in the hallway/stairs and sofa area on the top of the stairs. The bedroom is directly next to this hallway and has single glazed slated windows it feels like the people are in the bedroom with you.
This results in very early wake up’s with guests returning late from the bars/clubs and others dragging their cases early in the morning and chatting loudly.
Buffet breakfast is offer at €10 per person and dinner is also a buffet at €16 per person. I did not try these options but they seemed good value for money

Great Location, close to bus stop and lots of bars and restaurant. Hotel was clean, however room was only cleaned 1 day out our 3 night. Not sure if this is normal. 2 beds were joined up, but all i felt was springs! Suggest upgrading to the new renovated rooms. Very spacious and felt new . Pool are was great with enough sunbeds. Would stay here again.

Even the ‘refreshed’ rooms are tired and old.

Mine stank of cigarettes. Was only ‘cleaned’ twice during my stay, and even then dirty towels were left lying in the bathroom (not even mine - ones they had used to wipe the floor!!).

On check in, desk staff do not speak any foreign language ( surprising for a destination that attracts English, French, German, . . . speaking guests year round.

Rooms in terrible condition!
- NO closets/dressers in bedroom, walls and ceiling deterioration plastered over
(no finish paint)
- Bathroom had terrible, constant odour of sewer gasses ( suspect incorrect /faulty plumbing). Maintenance/housekeeping staff would pour deodorizing compound down drains every day, which would last till we turned water on to wash or shower, or flushed toilet, then stench would come return. When we requested a re-location, we were informed that no other rooms available, and they would continue to deodorize drains to remedy.

Kitchen appliances in terrible shape. Sink cracked, cooktop and counter damaged, fridge shelves missing, freezer door missing. Very limited utensils. Had to ask for knives, salad bowl and colander, soup bowls, dish cloths, cooking pot, frying pan.

Decent food in restaurant buffet, but no variety (same food at every meal.

Several light bulbs and light shades were missing and the shower didn’t really work. To resolve this I purchased light bulbs from the supermarket and attempted to clean the shower head; when that didn’t work I obtained a new shower head from a shop opposite the hotel for €3.50 which totally solved the issue.
Small details but it did impact the quality of my stay!

I had a room that was not remodeled yet. It was very clean, cleaning service came every day except Sunday. Front desk staff was super nice and helpful. The hotel is close to Cita Shopping Center and about ten minutes from the beach. The pool area and bar were very nice. Just wish the bar was open, there also is a stage but no entertainment.

Huge flat to myself with a nice balcony, so great value for money. The cleaning was ok. Only twin beds, I would have preferred a double bed, but they seem to do things that way there. Nice wooden furniture everywhere. Some very friendly clerks (Alvaro was amazing!), some less interested. The pool was great outside too. The WiFi though was awful but I guess it must be hard in such a large place. But super happy in the end.

We liked the quirkiness of the castle theme. A little tired in the economy rooms but reflected in the price. Room was cleaned daily and all the staff were pleasant. My only problem was, as a non smoker, I noticed there were none ‘no smoking’ signs anywhere. We could constantly smell cigarettes in the room and the guests next door were constantly smoking weed on the balcony next to ours. Otherwise a pleasant stay

This is a VERY tired hotel which explains why it was one of the few with vacancies. The hallways are grim with carpets that appear dirty, unfinished work, cats eating. You get the picture. I’m guessing that its prime location, which is superb, makes this site ripe for development. I was lucky enough, I think, to get one of the renovated rooms. Spacious but redone with cheap ikea furniture. The best thing was the bed which appeared brand new. The bedspread was stained as was the couch. Merge equipment in the kitchen; no towels or dishwashing soap. The packets of shampoo and shower gel were also meagre and if poor quality.

It was really good location, next to the bus stops where you could go and travel to different cities or even airport. Around 10 min walk from beautiful dunes. Some shops around, lots of restaurants. Pool was very clean. Lovely staff.

We checked in for 2 nights and sadly were very disappointed. The hotel is dated and in need of a total refurb. When we got to our apartment (a refurbished one) we found that the toilet was blocked and over spilling when flushed. We got in the shower and had an electric shock! And finally the air conditioning didn't work. We reported all of this to reception on the first night and nobody came to fix anything. We then went to reception the next day to report it all again. Pepe (the man on reception sorted a maintenance man out). He came to repair the blocked toilet and to top everything else off finished his work and left the apartment door open!!! We discovered this on our return from the pool a few hours later!
We complained again that this was unacceptable. We were told there is no air conditioning until the summer!!
There is obviously residential apartments here as there was also a dog barking/howling!!!
We will never stay here again and if you are thinking of booking, don't bother. It may be cheap but you are better spending a little bit more. Very disappointed. 😔😔
We asked the hotel for a refund but their terms and conditions would not allow it, despite all of our issues. Thankfully Expedia gave us a voucher towards another booking with them.

Be warned - Dated and in need of renovation

Ariived at 12noon to be told check in wasnt until 3pm, we left our bags and went back as instructed.

The room we were given hadn't been cleaned had dirty beds, vapes and cigarette buts all over and rubish still in place. We had to ask for the room to be cleaned. Staff were very apologetic.

But be aware room 403 was incredibly dated, 1970s style, no plugs in bedroom and very few in the main room. Fridge was broken. Beds are very very old and used , and the springs were very close to the top, bed slats were very squaky and broken in places.

To top it off in the room next to is 404 they had a dog, who the hell brings a dog to a hotel. It barked all day and night, we only stayed 2 nights other wise we would have checked out straight away.

Bathroom had been refurbished to be fair.

Staff were helpful and the pool was nice and heated .

Breakfast is very basic but edible, we didnt try evening meal , but it didnt look very nice

All in all i would warn you against staying here . But if you do be warned its very basic and is like stepping back to the 70s .

We stayed in one of the older rooms due to hotel availability and prices during the busy carnival season. The room was very dated, oppressive and lacked certain facilities to cook and there was only one socket in the kitchenette. Some might say the room was very retro but it wasn't our thing.

However(!), Ray Carlos did exceed our expectations in many ways. The staff were nice, the pool and pool bar fantastic and the location was great for the beach, shopping etc. We would stay again but in one of their more recently upgraded rooms.

right the first room I was offered was not acceptable , It was very tired and tatty and out of date , the new room was lovely a lot more modern and up to date which I liked . the hallway that connects the hotel rooms is dreadfully old and tatty ,and desperately needs new carpets and curtains and painting . The staff are really nice and friendly and listen to what you say , Breakfast buffet nice with good selection , Maria is lovely who runs it .

The Ray Carlos is an older hotel…I guess built in the 70’s. In places it’s showing it’s age. We had issues with the air conditioning, it was set to 22’c we couldn’t change the setting. It also stopped working twice. However it was resolved fairly quickly. Also the power in the room went off once. I had an updated room with an upgraded bath room which was nice. There was renovation work being carried out on my floor which was noisy during the daytime. My friend had an older room the bathroom wasn’t great. He asked to be moved because of drain smells.
The pool area was nice…looks like it’s been updated, plenty of sun-beds and parasols.
Overall the hotel was ok for the price.

Many areas in the property were being refurbished so it was very noisy whilst the man were working.
The room was very basic on its utilities for cooking. No kettle. No air conditioning. However they did provide a free standing air conditioning unit but it need to be next to the balcony door for venting.
Staff very friendly and helpful.

Disappointing Stay

I booked this hotel for a 1 week stay, and was very disappointed. It needs updating, and has very old furniture, bed and curtains. The walls, doors and floor, were damaged and all wooden furniture and doors were very dark. My room wasn’t cleaned for 2 days until I spoke to the manager. Even though they cleaned on the third day, it was not very good service, so I complained and they cleaned again Still not good. Just appalling service. Air conditioner did not work, and in a hot country it should. I was told that they only use the air conditioner in the summer! (The outside temperature during my stay was 37°C!) The room safe also didn’t work. Breakfast was good, also the service. Dinner was ok, but needs a bit more variety. Overall I would not recommend this hotel for anyone! The only good thing is that the hotel is in a great location in the town.

The property advertises two bars, they have one, the pool bar, which is open very limited hours. After a couple of days I was left one small hand towel, when I asked about it was told one person, one towel. The lights in the stairwell did not work. Water from the apartment above mine was dripping into the bathroom. Rey Carlos used to be a great place to stay, I will not be booking there again. The location is great, close to the beach (10 minute walk). The receptionist told me he didn't have time for my complaints, he had work to do. WiFi is intermittent at best.

Not a bad place to stay for a night or two. The swimming pool was a added bonus. The 10 euro deposit for the television remote is odd but bearing in mind my Spanish is terrible, I didn’t need to watch tv anyway. Older hotel but room had a small kitchen which would’ve been useful for a longer stay.

This hotel needs a general refurbishment, and perhaps new management, but beyond the idea of a refresh, there are some basic needs that are NOT covered: Free wifi only at the lobby, else pay 20EUR a week, or 4EUR daily for wifi in your room. You need to deposit 10EUR for the TV remote. C'mon, it is 2019! I asked for an extra towel and was told they provide only one towel per guest. There is no heating, while winter temperatures can drop to 15 overnight. A blanket as the idea of comfort when it is 15 degrees? The mattresses lack basic padding, it was ultra hard like sleeping on a box-spring. There is mildew between the shower tiles. The bathtub was rusted.
Half board food: Food is fresh, plenty of salads and fruit, but they need a cook, not a chef, just a basic cook. Food was fresh but incredibly boring and insipid.
The restaurant personnel was fine, but they commented they need to check the guest registration card every night during dinner, because non-guests can come from the street and dine in the hotel per free. Really? Something is wrong when the workers are instructed on this idea. Isn't it easier to provide a guest bracelet, like most hotels do?

There was no air conditioning in the room.they only turn it on during summer (it was 30°).

The half board service was ok, but the food was terrible and it did not include beverages.
On the first night of our stay, our balcony door closed and we were both stuck on the balcony for over 3 and a half hours, we spent the whole time shouting for assistance and were eventually released at 6:30am, which was not a pleasant experience.

Rey Carlos suits me!

Rey Carlos is in the mainly German area of PDI next to the Cita shopping centre. If you are English then do not expect to hear many English voices. However the staff all speak English and the food is nice and pretty International. It has a lovely pool area with a nice pool bar and all the rooms are suites, with a little kitchen area with a fridge, two rings, sink and crockery and cutlery, though there are no pots and pans for self catering.

Le stanze davvero datate e vecchie. Ho dovuto chiedere una prolunga perché non avevo una spina vicino al letto, dato che utilizzo la CPAP per la respirazione notturna. Ho trovato sul pavimento patatine e un cerotto, e polvere, ma quest'ultima credo sia dovuta alla mobilia vecchia di legno poco pratica. La cucina davvero pessima, scarsa e poco curata. L'avanzo diventa l'ingrediente della cena del giorno dopo, che gira e rigira continuamente. La qualità del cibo è scarsa, come la pasta orribile. I condimenti, tutti monodose e monoporzione, finiscono sistematicamente e si rimane senza. Il microonde si è guastato dopo un paio di mattine ed è stato rimesso dopo 2 giorni. Delle 3 macchine del caffè, ne funzionano sempre 2 perché la terza si svuota. Frutta di bassa qualità; mi sarei aspettato almeno le banane canarie, visto che lì vengono prodotte, invece in quasi 2 settimane le avrò trovate sì e no 2 o 3 mattine. I dolci, per carità! Tutti assolutamente chimici, fatti da preparati come le creme. I prodotti per la colazione, come le brioche, sono stantie e tutte rigorosamente industriali, nulla di fatto fresco, insomma la cucina pecca in professionalita e capacita nel fare buona cucina, ho meglio va bene per i clienti nordici che poco se ne intendono di cucina, ma non e paragonabile a cucina internazionale, sono un cuoco professionista e se minpermetto di dire cio e perche ne ho le competenze.
Il personale di sala e pulizie tutte persone fantastiche, i responsabili no.

Hotelli keskeisellä paikalla josta helposti pääsi jokapaikkaan. Bussipysäkki vieressä. Osa huoneista on uudistettu. Meillä oli vanha ,mutta ihan siisti huone . Huoneiston jääkaappi osittain rikkinäinen. Toimi kyllä . Hotelli melkoisen rapistunut varsinkin käytävien osalta. Allasalue oli siisti. Aamupala riittävän monipuolinen. Henkilökunta oli oikeinkin mukavaa ja iloista.

A fürdőszobában a kád rozsdás volt, a járólap feltörve. A bejárati ajtó festése kicsit kopott. Nem 4 csillagos hotel látszatát keltette. Szerettünk volna egy órával hamarabb becsekkolni de elutasítóak voltak. Holott látszott hogy a hotel messze nem
volt teltházas. Legközelebb biztos hogy másik hotelt választunk. Többször voltunk már a Playa dél Ingles-en.

The room actually turned out to be a small apartment, so we had lots more space than expected. The accommodation was a little dated, but still well equipped. We also had a nice view of the pool from the balcony of our apartment. Staff was friendly and breakfast was good. All in all a very good experience at a reasonable price and I would definitely choose Hotel Rey Carlos again.
