Comfortable hotel for business or leisure in Basel

Convenient location with access to the river and city centre. Comfortable rooms and the best breakfast with a quiet shady patio area. Very friendly staff. The rooms do not have air conditioning which is only an issue when temperatures are very high, which is not often. I have stayed here several times and will return again.

- all staff we dealt with were wonderful
- free mini bar! (One beer, two cokes, two waters)

Only downfall was the room was SO hot! It was 0 degrees mostly when we were there but had to sleep with the door open as it was too hot / stuffy. Otherwise, I really recommend and thank all of the staff! :)

It was a nice property with very helpful staff. Well maintained. The coffee machine in the lobby was fantastic and convenient. The only downside was the heat in our room. There is no Aircon. We opened the window and turned on the fan but it was still to hot.

One of worst hotel

The room for the 3 nights was like a furnace. Even with the fan going, the rooms remained super hot for the entire period. There was no coffee facilities in the room especially needed at night. Though you could obtain free coffee and tea, this was in the lobby which was not a private space. Nowhere in the room were you informed if the water in the tap was drinking water. Especially needed when the room was so hot and no bottled water was provided. Room service was non existent. I came with a bigger party. But I will not be staying here again

A lovely stay in Basel.

My husband and I had a 3 night stay with another couple. The rooms were very pleasant, although they were very warm. The breakfast was delicious, with both hot and cold food and a very good variety of choice. The breakfast staff were delightful and very helpful, as were the reception staff. It is easy to get into town over the river on the tram.

THE BEST HOTEL

This hotel is possibly THE BEST HOTEL I have ever stayed in. Myself and colleagues were there for a couple of nights and all commented on the comfort and cleanliness of the rooms, the delicious breakfast (especially the pastries) and the nice additional touches (a games room, use of umbrellas, well-stocked complimentary mini bar ...) I will always now use this hotel for our trips to Basel.

I sayed in the hotel for one night with my wife. We arrived there after a long drive hoping we can get a good night rest. The room itself was clean and provided us with everything we needed. Unfortunately, the hotel rooms are poorly isolated. We were woken up by sounds coming from different rooms starting 6 30 AM. We couldn’t sleep well and woke up with terrible headaches.

Great location and lovely view walking across the bridge to the old city centre; very clean; reception staff could not have been nicer or more helpful; comfortable rooms with nice touches like shoe horns and umbrellas that could be borrowed; quiet; a very welcome bath tub; though I only had a single room I had a balcony and it was lovely to sit in the evening sun; excellent value for money. I would defintely stay here again.

Stayed for 2 nights in December. Great location with easy public transportation. Comfortable bed, clean and quiet. Automatic blinds were a jet lag life saver. Only issue we had was the temperature of the room. Radiator didn’t seem to regulate so the room was very warm. Otherwise really enjoyed our stay.

Lovely hotel very close to Christmas markets

This hotel is lovely. Free tea and coffee all day in the lobby is a lovely touch. The family room was spacious and easily accommodated 3 adults (space for a cot too if needed). Free soft drinks in the fridge in the room. It was a 10 minute walk to the high street where there were loads of shops and of course the Christmas markets at this time of year.

Fantastic choice for a stay in Basel

Wow - what a treat to find the Hotel Wettstein for our Christmas time stay in Basel. As we were driving we needed a place that was easy to access from the autobahn, and had onsite parking. The hotel does charge for parking, and important to reserve a spot, but it was a wonderful convenience.

The place is absolutely charming - they pride themselves on thinking about what you might need, and then providing that service without asking - like mini-fridge with complementary drinks, to window washing equipment in the garage for your car.

While the room was not the largest we have stayed in, it was very well laid out. And the heated bathroom floor was divine. The bedding was high quality and so comfortable. We were upgraded to a room with a garden view, which meant no street noise, so we were able to crack our window to let in the cool December air.

The Breakfast buffet was amazing - everything you could ask for from pastries, to scrambled eggs, to fresh squeeze orange juice. The self-serve coffee/hot chocolate machines are available all day and night so that you could serve yourself anytime.

Staying at the hotel includes the Basel tourist card, which gives you free access to Basel local transportation. The hotel is located in Kleinbasel, across the Rhine from the main Basel city center, but it was an easy 1 km walk to the city center, or a short walk to the tram station at Wettstein Platz to catch a free ride into the city center.

So - totally happy with our stay!!!

Great choice - super helpful staff. Walked to Old Town, Tinguely Museum, strolled along the Rhine, had two fabulous dinner at Italian places just around the corner. We had planned to stay somewhere else but that didn't work out, and we're so glad it didn't!

Weekend stay with mu daughter. We arrived around midday and were allowed to access our room straight away. Room was clean and good size. Reception staff were friendly and helpful with maps and directions for the city.
We also received a Basel travel card which entitled us to free tram journeys. We ate breakfast at the Wettstein and it was enjoyable in the winter garden room. Location was great and we felt safe wandering around. Tram stop just outside hotel. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would love to stay again.

The location is excellent for walking into old town Basel. The use of the Baselcard is perfect for getting around the area if you prefer not to walk. Spent 2 nights,staff was more than accommodating, let us sit in the lounge area and drink our own drinks. Now having said that we did purchase drinks and some meals in their restaurant, food was excellent.

Great location to get to the conference center and a nice walk over the bridge to Old Town. If you don’t want to walk a lot, this may not be the place for you, but it was a pleasant hotel, nice staff and the room was clean and comfortable. I had a family room, so it was big by Europes standards. My only complaint is the room was very warm. I was there in November, so at least it wasn’t freezing, but I would open the windows when I was in there to let the cool air in. They do keep a pedestal fan in the room so I had that on at night to keep the air moving. My colleague had a room in another part of the building and said her room was fine.

Have never had a hotel breakfast that could surpass this one. Great food selection, service, and eating area in an atrium. e-Bikes and regular bikes are available for use by guests. Hotel is conveniently located to public transportation. Just be advised that this hotel, like many in europe, does not have air conditioning.

Breakfast included us one of the pluses. We normally won't pick a 3 star hotel in Europe (Expedia.ca ranked it as 4 star). However, the hotel exceeded our expectations.

This hotel has the most comfortable, fluffy pillows I've ever slept on. There's no A/C, which is OK as it usually cools down at night, but it was warm in the room during the day with temps reaching up into the mid-80s while we were there.
The little garden out back is an oasis.
This is close to the tram and they give you a Basel Card that makes all the public transportation free during your stay. Although the Old Town is just a short walk over the bridge, you can get anywhere you need to go on the tram. Excellent location.
Overall, a very nice place that I would definitely book again.l

There is a lift as advertised, but just in the main building - not the building we were in. As is common in the area there was no air conditioning. The staff was amazing. We were able to check our luggage and tour the town before our evening flight. The breakfast was good. Overall great stay.

Great staff at this hotel. I enjoyed the breakfast, and they make a great cappuccino too! Afternoon ice tea is a nice touch after walking around museums all day as well.
Our room had a fan available to use, which was great for us as we are used to sleeping with a fan at night. The room is well fitted out and the restroom/ shower was great and very modern. This hotel is close to most of the major museums, with only the Beyeler being a short tram ride away. There is not a restaurant on site, but there are plenty of places to eat within short walking distance, and they all were great.

Great hotel that deserves a 5 Star rating!!

I had never stayed at the Hotel Wettstein before and booked it for me and my three Canadian friends, starting a bike trip in Basel. We expected a normal, nice hotel, but were blown away by how great this hotel was: friendly and helpful staff, clean, well equipped rooms and fantastic buffet breakfast in a beautiful room adjoined by a wonderful garden. The location, too, is excellent and only a 7 minute tram ride away from the railway station. Everything is in walking distance, including the old parts of Basel. Would be my choice of hotels if again staying in Basel. The price is that of a 3 Star hotel, but everything else is 5 Star quality!

Look no further than here.
Good location, excellent staff and breakfast with a well appointed room.
Close to the Wettstein tram stop with easy access to City centre.. Free Tram pass and 50% discount to museums was provided by hotel.
The river and bridge is located just round the corner for those wanting to walk.
