I love the bar here and never stated before however the smaller rooms not worth the price and no coffee. The Martof is usually less expensive and although the porter service and history are not there, but would probably say overall facilities are much better

The next level five star experience

I had very high expectations for Les Trois Rois and the staff exceeded such to include the single room (exceptional for \"lower entry\" class), the valet (top notch), reception, and concierge who was able to get me into the Chavel Blanc last minute. That 3 star michelin experience requires its own review. Do not miss a chance to stay there when in Basel. I will return each year from my plCe in the Swiss Alps.

This is a very classy & elegant hotel.The rooms are quite small, but extremely charming & very clean. We had a river view & it was exquisite!! The staff were mostly very pleasant & accommodating.

Our stay was outstanding from the moment we walked in. Staff was very friendly and courteous, Le Cheval Blanc restaurant was an incredible experience I will always remember. Our room was just perfect overlooking the water. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Every detail was thought of. We cannot wait to come again.

Amazinnnnnng staff and very generous hotel they offer me a lot of free coffees & breakfast too when I came few mins towards the end of the breakfast timing. The only comment is the Ac was hot other than that excellent hotel. Highly recommended

Very disappointing

The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas and we were lucky to always get a seat in the bar for pre dinner drinks as we were residents.

We stayed for my husband’s 40th birthday, we were actually there on the day / night, but they didn’t make any effort to acknowledge this even though I had told them the stay was for a special occasion. For a 5 star hotel to do absolutely nothing, not even send a card to the room wishing a happy birthday, is seriously lacking in customer service, especially at £400 per night. It’s usually the small details that set these places apart.

The room was small and very hot, to the point that it disrupted our sleep on both nights. We were also supposed to have a king bed, but it was two single beds pushed together with completely separate bedding.

While the common areas were lovely, the room was disappointing, didn’t live up to expectations and the experience does not compare to the 5* experiences I am used too.

Not worth the price and Rude

Disappointing stay considering the price of the hotel. Didn’t have a wine opener in the room ( they wouldn’t give me one twice it took 30 mins for someone to come up and open the bottle) supplies were not stocked daily (Creamer for coffee, sugar, hygiene etc) pillows were flat and not comfortable. We had two rooms both river view king rooms same price however, one room had a claw foot tub and OBVIOUSLY bigger with more space to sit and to put clothes away and the other room had no tub and very small, again considering we had paid for the same two River King rooms. Couldn’t sleep Saturday night due to an event downstairs in the ballroom it sounded like a club all night and we were three floors up. They wanted us to move rooms at 1AM like I am going to move rooms in the middle of the night. Then at checkout they were rude and blamed us because we didn’t want to move rooms at 1AM. Always a doorman in the front not once did they open the door. Rude staff that wouldn’t acknowledge you or say good morning. The list could go on, but can’t continue. $500 a night for a Hilton overall value. Will not be back nor will I recommend the hotel to anyone.

We were forced to change our plans due to the French train strike and needed to book two additional nights at this hotel..I feel like the staff took advantage of the situation to jack up the price for those additional nights and were not willing to work with us.. very disappointing. The price for food in the bar were astronomical and the service was beyond slow. The property is stunning and one of the concierges was outstanding!

Grand Hotel Les Trios Rois

The room was very comfortable and even though I faced the street it was quiet. The bed was divine. Bathroom was state of the art. There is a lovely library on the 1st floor, where you can have open meetings. Dinner at the Brasserie also great. Only recommendation: Terrace bar outside brasserie should be open all year round with mushroom heaters.

Tradition tradition tradition at Basel’s grande dame hotel on the Rhine (pop for a riverfront room), with fancy wood paneled rooms and clunky keys you leave at the concierge on your way off the property. Excellent on-site dining options, with nattily dressed guests abounding at all times. Bonus: Hotels.com allowed us to book a premier room at a significant discount.

Just 2 nights but loved the old world elegance which was just what we were looking for after a week on a brand new modern decor ship on the Rhine. The prices in Basel was rather a shock but the food was high quality and the hotel staff really doted on us. The concierge was extremely helpful.

A fabulous hotel

A fabulous hotel, very high standards and exquisite decoration carried off without a hint of bling. Staff were excellent, and a room with a Rhine view well worth it. One small thing, however. Hot water, presumably previously boiled, with a tea bag on the side was presented as 'tea' at breakfast. It's a detail but one that should be corrected. Overall, that is the only fault I could fine in a truly great hotel.

Luxury hotel by the Rhine

Our cruise director suggested Les Trois Rois as a post-cruise hotel - quite a difference from the small room on the ship! We were not disappointed - probably the nicest hotel we have experienced.

It is a 5 star luxury hotel on the banks of the Rhine in a perfect location. The hotel dates from the 1840s (with some history before that) – it has been beautifully restored to its former glory (but to modern standards) l. The reception rooms, including a writing room on the first floor, are delightful. Service from all the staff was excellent, from the reception at check-in to the helpful concierge and the housekeeping staff. The housekeeping staff were wonderfully invisible and efficient.

The restaurant was fully booked and so we could experience it. Close by is a pizza parlor which was great for lunch. Cafe Spitz across the bridge gave us a quality dinner but service was bad.

Les Trois Rois does comes at a high price but probably worth the splurge.

I only stayed one night in this hotel but was a very pleasant stay,
The hotel is conveniently located in the center of Basel on the banks of Rhine.
Attentive staff, room and bed were comfortable and good breakfast with lots of options.

I was on a “city view” room, even though not very noisy you can hear the trams go by on a regular basis, so next time I’d ask for a riverside view.

Beautiful hotel in public areas, and we enjoyed our conplimentary upgrade. But room cleanliness was not 5 star level. Service was not five star level either. Room service was late and incorrect. Towels and linens had stranger hairs on them. View is outstanding though.

Elegant and Classic European!

Had a wonderful two day stay at this elegant and classically European hotel. Extremely beautiful architecture and interiors. Chandeliers are specataculat. Rooms were a good size with lots of closet space and gorgeous marble bathroom with all the modern amenities. Location is right in the Old Town of Basel and overlooks the Rhine. Had great sundowners at their terrace bar and a wonderful dinner at Cheval Blanc. And despite the superior five star service, the hotel had personal touches such as the white rose on arrival and the homemade jam given to us on departure. Not cheap but so worth it!

Beautiful River Views and Old World Charm

The hotel is beautiful, with a perfect setting directly on the river! The rooms are not large, but very well appointed, with heated bathroom floors and towel racks, an included mini-bar and many nice amenities to make for a very comfortable stay. There is a beautiful bar just off the lobby for a great view of the river, a nice glass of wine and snack. The breakfast is also very nice, but a bit expensive! My only problem was not the fault of the hotel, but since it was Carnival in Basel, it was extremely noisy and crowded with constant drumming outside my room until 3am!

This is a grand old hotel right on the Reine. Very attentive staff. Very nice buffet breakfast right on the river. They cater to all your needs including a pass for the trams. The only downside The only downside was the wallpaper in bath which was peeling in several spots....bad choice to put wallpaper in bathrooms!

Best hotel in Basel

We booked this to be a luxury base whilst visiting family in Basel over Christmas. Very attentive staff, excellent facilities. This was an ideal base for us, being centrally situated in the town with everything either a short walk or tram ride away. Our very comfortable room had excellent views over the Rhine. We enjoyed being so close to the famous Christmas Markets.

We stayed there two nights and we definitely come back another time. The food in the restaurant was delicious and we didn't have to wait long time. the historic center was just 4 minutes away. its a beautiful of Europe. we highly recommend teh hotel - our check in was quick and painless. the room was large and nicely decorated. the lady on check in even presented myself with a fresh flower, it was truly a great stay.

Without a doubt the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at. The rooms and bathrooms were large and cozy. The staff was gracious in every way. The location was central and neighborhood excellent. The river view rooms were quiet. We stayed in the newer Art Deco section of the hotel and the attention to detail from everything from the door handles to furniture was superb. The buffet breakfast was the best I had on my trip. Just loved the cheese plate...

An Excellent Stay!

As a single traveller, the Grand Hotel exceeded my expectations. From the moment I stepped out of the cab from the airport, I felt like I was the only one they were focussed on serving. The property itself is well situated for walking or catching a tram, however, the service and complementary amenities makes the price for the room affordable. If you consider the use of public transportation, complimentary in room mini bar, and buffet breakfast, all included in the room rate, the cost of the room is more than reasonable.
I have travelled by myself to several European destinations, this stay ranks at the top! Thank you to the staff, especially the concierge, who made sure I was looked after - even before I arrived by promptly responding to a question asked through e-mail.

Everything about this hotel is quality. Although in truth that is reflected in the price you pay.

The Brasserie was first class for the food quality, the wine and the service. I don't think you could fault it.

If there is one (and I stress only one) criticism is that we had a room that over looked the street. The noise from the trams outside could make for an uncomfortable nights sleep given they cease around mid night and the first ones I heard were about 5am.
