The service at the Soramba was generally poor, ranging from having to constantly wait for service while staff talked to each other, and the woeful front desk, who promised a letter for me on three occasions, and, that aside, were generally disengaged.

Two exceptions were the cleaners, who were excellent, and one of the night managers, who was proactive and responsive.

Comfortable, clean hotel

Clean and comfortable with competent staff. The free breakfasts have a wide variety of dishes, and you can order omelettes for no extra charge. The staff speak English reasonably well, so logistics are fairly easy (getting taxis, changing booking details, etc.). The rooms are spacious and offer nice views of the city.

The only negatives are things beyond the hotel's control: occasional city-wide power outages and water shutoffs.

Excellent value for money

Good value for money hotel. Small but adequate balcony affords lovely views of the daily comings and goings of the city and the mountains in the background. Great place to spend a day or two acclimatising to the altitude.
Easy walking distance to St George's Church and can also walk to the main museums.
Food adequate to good.
Affordable laundry service.
Only downside was the erratic internet service and inadequate hot water.

Clean, friendly hotel that's very noisey

This hotel is a useful base with friendly staff, airport pick up and clean, nice rooms. The noise at night is constant on the rooms that face the road, for instance room 603.

Decent place. Decent rate when on sale. Hotel staff are a bit shy but nice. Good location (near all the sights up in the north end of town). You need to call for airport pick-up (they didnt reply to emails).

I've been to Addis many times, and currently this is the hotel that gives you about the best value for money. The eggs for the breakfast are overboiled, and I am overall not fond of the breakfast meal, but apart from that, this is a good hotel with spotless cleaning and good service. Transport to and from airport is a pro, but one sometimes has to call when arriving at the airport to make sure they are there (I have stayed at the hotel four times). I will come again. There is now wireless Internet connection on every floor (two connection points on each floor).

This time there were problems

The arrival was fine, despite the delay by the airline and immigration clearance, the driver was there waiting for me. At the hotel I took 2 hours to be served with a menu book to choose the food food, from, despite repeated calls, the menu was delivered 2 hours later. The food was cold as usual. Now the morning shuttle, it started with no wake call up, when I asked the receptionist indicated that, maybe the phone was not working, but noone was send for me. Now the shuttle bus had a puncture and was given a small delivery van, very uncomfortable, It was travelling at most 20 - 40 KM/Hr very slow indeed. The driver did not know the terminal, we get lost and end up terminal 1 instead of terminal 2. If it was a busy day, I was going to miss my flight.

I took more time at the airport.

Overnight was quiet and the wake up call was on time. Ethiopia airline delayed and the person waiting for me gave my name tag to a sister hotel. But despite numerous calls, it took 2 hours to be picked up to the hotel after checking out of the airport. The promise was always in 10 minutes. I have booked the hotel again on my return, hopefully it will take less time, despite the delayed by the airline.

Nice, clean hotel

The Soramba Hotel is very nice. My room was very clean when I arrived and thoroughly cleaned each day. The restaurant served good food, and the wifi in the lobby/wired internet in the room ranged from being decent to excellent. And the free airport shuttle was a great bonus!

The only drawback is that the hotel is quite removed from the rest of the city. The purpose of my travel was business, which was located a couple kilometers from the Soramba. Addis traffic around rush hour is a nightmare, and it often took up to 30 minutes to go a few km.

Potential For Greatness

First things first, I stayed at this hotel from October 9th - 17th. More than once, I expressed my disappointment with management regarding the false advertising of Wi-Fi being available in the rooms. I asked them to contact Expedia and have that amenity removed. I have waited this long to write the review in hopes that Soramba (with Expedia's help) would do the right thing and remedy this situation. But as of November 5th, 2013 at 11:03pm (GMT +3), the hotel still lists the following... Under Room Amenities, it has \"Free Wi-Fi\". Under Internet, it has \"Available in all rooms - Free Wi-Fi\". This is a lie. False advertisement. Wi-Fi is only avalaible in the lobby, restaurant, & bar. There is wired access to internet in the rooms. Hope this helps other travelers who need to be connected to the web make a decision.

Other than that, I had a pretty decent stay. I did leave a comment card with the hotel upon my departure mentioning my disappointment with their false advertising and also the need for breakfast to be upgraded dramatically. Other than those two things, I can't think of anything else to complain about. The room was clean & comfortable. The balcony was convenient. The selection of food for lunch, dinner, and late meals was truly international & delicious.

Very Warm and Welcoming Staff

I spent 3 nights at Soramba hotel and the hotel was neat and comfortable with good interior ambience. I must mention that the warmth and willingness of hotel staff to assist is what my stay memorable. They eagerly gave directions, were constantly asking how I was doing, a staff even gave a sim card so I reach my family. The hotel also provided free airport shuttle on my way out of the country. If I come back to Addis Ababa, I will definitely stay there again.
Only issue for me was that there is no means of controlling the temperature in the room although the weather was generally OK. It was quite cold during the night and pleasantly sunny during the day.

The food were not good and nothing to choice from, internet connection is worst place in the world.
The restaurant manager won't leave you to eat your food it's like prison.

The tv had four channels two news and one channel 2 and one Arab

My experience on that hotel was treble

Stay was uncomfortable because of NO WI-FI or broadband connection in the rooms and very poor WI-FI in the lobby. INTERNET CONNECTION IS THE MAJOR & ONLY PROBLEM.

The Soramba is good value, even given the low cost of traveling in Ethiopia. Internet service can be iffy but I was relocated to another room when the cable connection turned out to be inadequate.

No qualms. Good restaurant

I was a little upset that the hotel does not accept credit cards so I had to drain my cash. Also, there was no TV in the room but there was WiFi which worked intermittenly - but it was better than nothing. The room was clean. The restaurant was good and it is apparently one of the nicer places in town to eat - people from other hotels were visiting the restaurant in the hotel.

Good air port pick up

Someone was at the airport

This time there was someone waiting for me for airport pick up despite a delayed flight by 2 hours, that was good and swift as I get to the hotel quickly. I lured two of my mates and they also indicated the hotel was good. The meal that I ordered was small but this can be improved. I like the ejela at breakfast as it was not sour and the taste was good. The rates were also good and affordable, I hope this will stay for some time. Was also happy that the hotel was fully booked.

Not bad, not great; would choose somewhere else

Not a 3.5 star hotel. The hotel charges a hefty fee for a second person in a smaller room; these fees aren't unheard of, but at a place that tries to brand itself as higher quality, it's a bit of a disappointment. Don't expect much from breakfast, and the hotel was just \"meh\". Service wasn't great. WiFi didn't work. Computers didn't work. I just wouldn't trust anything the hotel advertised, and the service was lackluster. Could have been worse- I had a bed to sleep in, but I probably paid too much. Best part was the \"free\" airport shuttle, which may be why the room was too expensive.

The hotel was reasonably comfortable and the staff were okay. If you are relying on transport to/from the airport/hotel, be prepared to have to wait. Despite having phoned the hotel prior to our arrival with the flight details, there was no transport waiting for us, so we had to phone the hotel again from the airport. We had already booked to stay in The Soramba Hotel 6 nights later. The Hotel we were staying at in Lalibela, Ethiopia, phoned the hotel the night before we were due to arrive, again with flight details. On arrival at the airport, no transport. 3 phone calls and an hour and a half later, our transport finally arrived. On arrival at the hotel, we received no apology. We will not be staying at The Soramba Hotel again.

Good, clean newish hotel suitable for business travellers. Wired Internet in the rooms, wi-fi in the lobby and restaurant. Excellent selection of food in the restaurant, both Ethiopian and international. The hotel also offeres a complimentary shuttle service from/to the airport.

Choose others hotels don't use Soramba

The hotel is a old building beside one of the main street and it is noisy and not conformable. The stuff there are trained to get as much money as they can from the guests. They do not have a price list of services is just up to them. Be careful!! Room are old and dirty.Bathroom are dirty and the water is not filtered so you may get dirtier after a shower. They don't have shampoo or shower gel. A total discomfort!!!! There is better places for even less money; I am sorry I discover it after a full advance payment. It was a robbery !!

The limited attention to maintenance of the fabric of the building is just starting to show up. Chunks of plaster from the bathroom door surround fell on the floor occasionally. But the hotel staff were very helpful, patient and attentive. The food in the hotel restaurant is unexceptional, but adequate. Hotel laundry is fast and efficient, my shirts being returned crisply ironed and spotless.

Free Shuttle Makes It Really Attractive

I stayed here for one night and I was very glad that they had the free shuttle to the airport. I spent a lot of money getting to the hotel because I did not know they had a shuttle. Excellent Internet speed - but its not wireless. The rooms are clean but old.

Good place for National Museum (Amist Kilo) area

A nice hotel with helpful staff. Clean and comfortable. Free high speed internet and tv (though with maybe only 5 channels). As a single traveler, I was pleased to find a nice restaurant and cafe on site as it is not particularly safe to walk around by oneself at night and I often got back from work after dark. A 10 minute taxi to the National Museum area cost around 100 birr (roughly 6 US dollars) though some would try to charge more. A ready supply of taxis outside made getting around easy. Also within close walking distance of the Addis Ababa restaurant. They also have a free hotel shuttle which I did not know about when I arrived, but used when I left. A decent savings from the approx. $20-25 USD taxi ride from the airport.

Soramba Hotel - Nice view of Addis

Soramba is located in the old part of the town. You can take a blue taxi for a cheap price to anywhere in town.

The area is safe, as seem all areas to be in Addis and the staff is incredibly nice.

If you can't find your things it is because you misplaced them. The staff is being checked before leaving the hotel, which is good for both your and their safety.
rooms are clean and very well kept. The hotel is up on a small hill so the air is nice. It is located in the old part of town (Piazza) and a bit far from the modern part of Bole, but in taxi it takes 15 min.

it is right next to the Cathedral where Haile Selassie was crowned and if you want to walk to Merkato (the largest market in Africa) it is a 20 minute walk.
All staff were very kind to us, I guess if you you yourself treat people with a smile you will get one back.

We arrived late at night and there was no shuttle. The taxi trip from the airport is not much. They provide a free shuttle at daytime and early night.

We stayed three people in a room for 12 days and liked both the hotel and food.

if you want to eat cheap local traditional food then don't be afraid to go across the road to the left (the pink little building). Three people eating and having coffe extremely cheep.

We don't regret choosing this hotel.

the gym is under construction with no completion date in the forecast, otherwise it was clean, the breakfast buffet was average, the room was nice and clean, location good in terms of being close to a shopping district especially if you like jewelry where the gold and silver items are a couple of blocks away, so it reminds you of most downtown districts with gift shops, tailors, restaurants,,,etc

Preis Leistung sehr gut! Kontaktaufnahme vor der Anreise allerdings sehr schlecht. Offenbar können die kein Englisch bearbeiten. Haben angeblich keine meiner drei E-Mauls bekommen. Wenn ich keinen Freund vor Ot gehabt hätte, der in das Hotel gegangen wäre, um eine Klärung herbeizuführen, hätte der Flughafentransfer nicht geklappt.
